Chapter 88: All the Pain Was Caused by Him
Ye Zhile had truly been lying down for too long; his whole body was sore and aching. He didn’t even dare to turn over. The night was slightly cool. Ye Zhile kept his eyes open, thinking he would sleep once he felt tired. But his eyes were sore from staring, and he still wasn’t asleepâuntil a wave of cold, elegant pheromones wafted in from outside the ward.
Ye Zhile immediately understood that the man was at the door. He blinked. He thought he would be restless and even less able to sleep, but instead, the increasingly thick pheromones enveloped him. His eyelids grew heavier and heavier, and a moment later, he fell into a deep sleep.
…
Every day, breakfast was porridgeâall kinds of porridge. After a few days, Ye Zhile was getting a bit tired of it. But facing Wen Yumiaoâs warning gaze, he didn’t dare complain and obediently ate it all.
He could sit and stand now, and occasionally he could even stand by the floor-to-ceiling window to breathe some fresh air. However, he couldn’t stand for long before he had to lie back down.
“Dudu~” Ye Zhile sat on the hospital bed watching Dudu crawl. When the baby got tired, he would sit for a while and then clap his small hands at Ye Zhile. Ye Zhile flicked his little face.
“Time for a nap.” Wen Yumiao came over to carry Dudu away and instructed Ye Zhile, “Sleep well, okay?”
“Oh…” Ye Zhile was reluctant. He tried to protest, “If I nap now, I won’t be able to sleep at night.”
“But when I came over this morning, you were sleeping quite soundly,” Wen Yumiao said.
Ye Zhile was speechless and obediently lay down.
It was already summer. Half a window in the ward was open, and a cool breeze blew in gently. Ye Zhile felt very comfortable and fell asleep after a moment.
Ji Shuohan tiptoed to his bedside. Seeing that the youthâs complexion looked much better, he felt relieved. Just as he was about to leave, the youthâs voice came from behind him.
“Don’t come again.” Ye Zhile opened his eyes. He knew that for the past few days, Ji Shuohan had been providing pheromones outside his ward in the middle of the night.
Ji Shuohan turned around. Seeing the youth propping himself up to sit, he subconsciously reached out to help him. Ye Zhile dodged him and sat up against the headboard on his own.
“Once my health is better, I will have my gland removed,” Ye Zhile said. “I don’t need your pheromones.”
Ji Shuohan froze. “Zhile…”
“Ji Shuohan, we are already divorced. You are harassing me right now.” Ye Zhile looked at him. “Please do not appear in front of me again.”
The youthâs gaze was firm, making Ji Shuohan feel bitter inside. He lowered his head and said, “Your poor health was caused by me. I want to do what I can to make you feel better. Once you’re better… I will leave.”
Ye Zhile remained silent. He didn’t seem to find anything to say, or perhaps he simply didn’t want to say more to Ji Shuohan. Everything that needed to be said had been made very clear, and he didn’t want to bring up the past and make himself unhappy.
Ye Zhile turned his head away and stopped looking at him. Ji Shuohan stood in place. He didn’t want to pester Ye Zhile; that would only make him feel exhausted. But he didn’t want to leave, didn’t want to let go. He didn’t know what to do to make Ye Zhile feel better.
Ji Shuohan stopped appearing in front of Ye Zhile. He feared annoying him. However, during the hospitalization, he provided pheromone comfort every night. Ye Zhile knew the man was there every night, but he stopped paying attention to it.
Until Ye Zhileâs heat phase appeared. Since Ye Zhile could get out of bed and handle simple self-care, he hadn’t let his Papa stay with him constantly. He told everyone to go about their business and not worry about him. Wen Yumiao still wasn’t completely at ease, so he hired two caregivers for him and brought Dudu to accompany him during the day when he was free.
On this night, Ye Zhile felt as if he were being scorched under the sweltering midsummer sun. His whole body burned with a stinging pain. He kicked off the quilt and curled into a ball. Restless Freesia pheromones were surging, forcing moans of torment from him.
Ji Shuohan only entered the room after sensing Ye Zhileâs chaotic pheromones. He saw the Omega curled up on one side of the bed, his legs unconsciously rubbing against the sheets.
“Zhile.” Ji Shuohan strode to his bedside and called his name softly. The Omegaâs consciousness was blurred, and he rejected the proximity. Ji Shuohan could only release his pheromones to soothe him.
“Ugh…” Ye Zhile was in extreme distress. He opened his eyes, which were misty and blurred, making Ji Shuohanâs heart tremble.
“Zhile… Let me give you a temporary mark, okay?” Ji Shuohan held his hand and kissed his fingertips.
Ye Zhile seemed to grow even hotter. He pulled back his hand to hug himself tightly and buried his head, whispering, “No… I hate you…”
Ji Shuohanâs gaze darkened. “If I don’t mark you, you’ll be in a lot of pain.”
“Suppressants…” Ye Zhile whispered.
“Suppressants have no effect on you.” Ji Shuohan touched his face and carefully pulled him into his arms, letting him feel the pheromones as much as possible.
Since Ye Zhile married Ji Shuohan, he had never used suppressants. Once tainted by an Enigmaâs pheromones, suppressants became entirely useless for him.
Feeling the cold pheromones, Ye Zhile unconsciously burrowed into his arms. Upon realizing this, a massive sense of grievance surged in his heart, and he burst into tears. “Bastard…”
Ji Shuohan was overwhelmed with guilt. “Yes, I am a bastard.”
With that, Ji Shuohan leaned down.
This time, Ji Shuohan didn’t let Ye Zhile faint. He controlled the pheromones, letting the cool Cedar soothe the restless Freesia. Ye Zhile only felt the burning heat all over his body cool down. He lay in Ji Shuohanâs arms for a moment to recover.
Ji Shuohan held him tightly. The person in his arms was thin, soft, and fragile.
After Ye Zhile regained his senses, he pushed him away and lay down. “Get out. I want to sleep.”
Ji Shuohan had no complaints. “Alright, then rest well. If you don’t want to see me, I won’t come in to disturb you.”
Ye Zhile stopped responding to him. The exhaustion following the temporary marking left him without even the energy to be cold toward Ji Shuohan.
Ji Shuohan tucked him in, closed the door, and left.
Ji Shuohan didn’t often appear in front of him. Only occasionally when the family wasn’t around would he go in to check on Ye Zhile. When Ye Zhile was asleep, he wouldn’t know; when he was awake, he wouldn’t acknowledge him, maintaining a cold expression.
Ye Zhile spent two months in the hospital before being discharged. He continued to recuperate at home. Ji Shuohan had promised Ye Zhile that he wouldn’t pester him once he was well. But since recovering his memories, he dreamed of Ye Zhile every night he slept.
The dreams were always of the past. The youthâs every smile and pout tugged at his heart. That delicate, clingy, yet cute and innocent nature made him unable to stop his heart from racing. But whenever he dreamed of a beautiful scene, the next second it would shift to the moment the youth threatened his own lifeâthat look of despair and agony.
Ji Shuohan woke up with a start from a dream, took a deep breath, and couldn’t sleep again.
“I wish Baby a life of peace, prosperity, and freedom from all disasters.”
Thinking back now, he seemed to have said something utterly absurd. It was practically laughableâall of Ye Zhileâs pain had been caused by him.
