Chapter 32: “Chosen One”
Recently, KW’s first team had been turned upside down because of a substitute position. The members of the Youth Training Camp and the second team were all restless, staring at this piece of fat meat like jackals. Every day was like a palace drama, full of intrigue and foul atmosphere.
Tans thought that compared to Duan Mingyue and Kai, he had stayed out of it enough.
He was too lazy to answer calls, too lazy to read messages, and rejected all friend requests.
Even Song Yuan received more hints and requests than he did.
However, man proposes, God disposes.
As soon as he entered the game and saw UOOW and Moon Steed on the opposite side, Tans felt something big was wrong.
Seeing his own Yue Fengling actually typing to chat with UOOW, Tans felt even more doomed.
Who was Moon Steed? Who else could it be but Duan Mingyue!
Otherwise, such a skilled jungler would have long been snatched up by various teams for their Youth Training Camps!
Unlike Kai, Tans understood the principle that disaster comes from the mouth. After learning something, he liked to keep it inside.
Doing so had its downsides. For example, right now, he really had a belly full of bitterness but nowhere to pour it out.
He looked worriedly at his Captainās little smurf account and sighed: Play, just play. What else can be done? Can’t pretend to disconnect.
Yue Fengling and Aiai were duo-queueing. Unknown if Captain Yue was in a good mood today, he unprecedentedly played Top Lane Ascetic Monk, and Aiai also picked a protective support to follow him bot.
Tans had a super smooth start: one kill, two layers of turret plating, plus the Dragon buff. Comfort among comforts.
Playing too smoothly, he felt uneasy instead.
The Captain not causing trouble was one thing, but UOOW not causing trouble either?
Shouldn’t happen, right?
People really can’t withstand being thought about. Just as he put down this thought, Duan Mingyueās figure appeared in the vision of the jungle bush.
Aiai threw out a skill to help Tans finish farming the minions, then covered his retreat to a safe position.
Seeing them leave, Duan Mingyue wasn’t in a hurry. As if he hadn’t discovered there was vision in that spot, he crouched there for another half a minute.
The turning point happened right then.
UOOW counter-ganked mid, taking a kill in one wave and eating back a layer of turret plating. Relying on this surprise raid, she pulled back the disadvantage a little.
One collapse leads to total collapse.
Originally, with Aiai protecting him, Tans could crush a solo AD as easy as turning over his hand.
At the same time, with Yue Fengling and his excellent counter-gank awareness holding down top lane, developing like this would directly crush two lanes and win the match.
But could anyone tell him what “taking shifts to camp the bot lane bush” meant?
Every time his positioning moved forward even a little bit, a sheep would fly out from the nearby bush, or sometimes it would be a blade energy wave.
With Aiaiās protection and a lead in items, Tans wasn’t afraid of a 2v2.
But he hesitated to strike for fear of breaking the vase (collateral damage). Who knew if this elusive Jungle-Support duo was appearing simultaneously this time?
The result was that as long as Duan Mingyue or the potentially supporting mid laner were reported missing on the map, Tans had to position conservatively.
Even if Duan Mingyue and the mid lanerās positions were shown, UOOWās mechanics ensured that within that timeframe, Tans and Aiai couldn’t gain much advantage.
Running up and down, weren’t these two tired?
Unable to advance, unwilling to retreat. Tans played so sullenly he really wanted to vomit blood.
Not just him, Yue Fengling felt the same.
This tactic wasn’t hard to guess actually. He opened his mouth and said in the voice channel, “They want to break Mid.”
“En.” Aiai frowned. “Duan Mingyue is camping here, I can’t leave. Can you help?”
“I can.”
Yue Fengling was already stacking the wave. To roam, he just needed to push one wave; he wouldn’t lose much by coming back.
He walked toward mid lane.
“Old Yue went mid.”
Almost as soon as Yue Fengling moved, Duan Mingyue, squatting bot, noticed the situation. “The second Dragon is spawning soon. He wants to defend the mid tower to the death.”
Shen Yanjin glanced at the top lane minion situation; it wasn’t optimistic. “Top needs to handle the wave, can’t come. Can… you come?”
Duan Mingyue said, “I can come, but if I come, Aiai and Tans will come too.”
At this point in time, the enemy duo’s combat ability wasn’t just ordinarily strong.
Shen Yanjin was helpless. The lanes were too weak, forcing the jungle players to be constrained. “Contest the Dragon directly. Can’t take the mid tower.”
“No.” Duan Mingyue curled his lips into a smile. “Come bot.”
In Aiaiās vision, Duan Mingyueās figure flashed past, his movement indicating he was heading mid.
“Be careful,” he said. “Duan Mingyue went mid too.”
Saying this, he pinged a signal, indicating Tans to go mid to support as well.
This Dragon was an Infernal Drake. Compared to the first Dragon, it was more worth fighting for.
The mid tier-one tower had evidently become a strategic location. With one side attacking and one defending, a team fight was inevitable.
Their side had Yue Fengling and Tans, plus Aiaiās protection. Their team fight win rate was very high; they practically wished for this development.
Shen Yanjin squatted in the river bush, watching Aiai and Tans getting closer and closer, clucking his tongue in admiration.
When it came to acting, one still had to look at Moon God.
That wave of positioning on the edge of vision and the feint retreatāacting skills maxed out.
He controlled the Shepherd to raise the staff and release the ultimate.
Requiem.
All enemy characters within range would be put to sleep for 6 seconds. Any damage taken would wake them up.
It sounded useless, but it was miraculously effective for restricting the enemy backline in team fights.
Of course, it was also very effective during ambushes.
“Best Actor” Duan Mingyue unhurriedly strolled out of the bush. Looking at the two people forced into sleep in place, he raised the big blade in his hand and slashed down mercilessly.
Shen Yanjin seamlessly followed up with a sheep charge, securing a double kill.
The rhythm of the offense didn’t stop there. The Jungle-Support duo rotated directly to bot lane. Taking advantage of the emptiness while the opponents focused all attention on mid, they successfully took the bot tier-one tower.
Bot lane instantly turned from a disadvantageous lane to an even lane, even slightly advantageous.
With the duo killed, the opponents naturally lost the qualification to contest the Infernal Drake.
The situation shifted in a split second.
It was already a strong meta for roaming Jungle-Support. Once the rhythm transferred completely to Shen Yanjin and Duan Mingyueās hands, the opponents were almost unable to resist.
15 minutes: Team fight one-for-four, took mid tier-one and bot tier-two towers.
17 minutes: Caught and killed Mid and Jungle in the wild.
20 minutes: Team fight at Baron. Shen Yanjin made a mistake, two-for-three trade, but took out the enemy jungler before dying. Duan Mingyue successfully secured Baron.
25 minutes: Broke high ground, secured victory.
A match that could be called a textbook example of Jungle-Support roaming.
Aiai smiled helplessly and shook his head. “I finally understand why the coach wants to recruit UOOW into the team so badly…”
With her playstyle and awareness, for the upcoming version, calling her the “Chosen One” wouldn’t be an exaggeration.
In contrast to himself…
If in the last game, he could have been a bit more careful, had better awareness, or wasn’t playing a protective support but a tank capable of CC, roaming more to help teammates open up the situation, then… the outcome might not have been like this.
Unconcealable loneliness flowed in Aiaiās eyes.
Yue Fengling, knowing the truth, didn’t want to join the conversation. He said helplessly, “Don’t overthink it. Next game.”
Aiai smiled bitterly. “En.”
Shen Yanjin didn’t know he was already being regarded as the “Chosen One.” He frowned, clutching his wrist, trying hard to suppress the cry of pain in his throat. “Moon God, wait a moment, I… going to pour a glass of water.”
Duan Mingyue heard the strange tone in his voice and wanted to ask, but… streaming. Nothing could be said conveniently.
He smiled. “Okay.”
More than half of the haters in Duan Mingyueās stream had been beaten away by this game, but the chat environment didn’t improve; instead, it became more chaotic.
[66666]
[Where are the haters? Don’t run. Didn’t you say UOOW was getting carried? Was this ranked match enough of a face slap?]
[Moon God is too strong, UOOW is also so strong. Damn, I’m starting to think they’re a good match again.]
[Whether they match is another story, but this awareness and shot-calling… must be KWās new member, no doubt.]
[Smart people can see at a glance it’s the old captain guiding a new player. Delusional CP fans are still shipping randomly.]
[Your Lu is gone! (Crying tone)]
[Are you sick? Is this a celebrity fandom? Dragging and stepping on people.]
[At most a substitute for Lucida. Every team has one. Don’t understand why some haters are jumping around.]
[Lucida, no matter how trash, is a four-time champion support. May I ask what champion your UOOW is?]
Duan Mingyue leaned back in his chair, wordlessly watching the rhythm in the chat grow fiercer.
That UOOW was YanGold in disguiseāhe was ninety percent certain in his heart. But everything had a “what if.” What if…
But he couldn’t be bothered to think anymore.
Muting the mic, he called the Legal Department.
“Help me prepare a signing contract.”
Whether it was him or not, grab him into the palm of his hand first. Then, whether he was human or ghost, don’t even think about running.
The Duan Mingyue of five years ago suffered from a fall; the Duan Mingyue of five years later gained wisdom.
The dim yellow light in the kitchen was a bit faint. Outside the floor-to-ceiling window, the lights of ten thousand homes under the night sky were multicolored, like a rainbow at night.
The kitchen was very quiet.
A drop of cold sweat rolled down Shen Yanjinās forehead.
He unscrewed the medicine bottle, tipped his head back to take two painkillers, and hurriedly rummaged through the fridge for an ice pack to apply to his wrist. Only then did he feel slightly better.
Dr. Li had said that in his condition, physical therapy could only delay, not improve.
Life always has a few difficult problems one must face.
For example, a surgery with an eighty percent failure rate, where failure meant losing everything.
He pressed the ice pack hard against his burning, swollen, and painful wrist until the painkillers took effect, then slowly released the pressure.
His phone rang at this moment.
Shen Yanjin didn’t look at the number and picked it up directly. “Hello?”
“Yanjin.”
On the other end of the phone, the middle-aged woman’s voice was gentle as ever.
Shen Yanjinās pupils constricted slightly.
The silence seemed to last a century, yet also seemed like just an instant.
He swallowed with difficulty and spoke, “Mom…”
Biological parents and child, five years without news of each other. If there wasn’t some major hidden story, it wouldn’t have come to this.
Shen Yanjinās memory was uncontrollably pulled back to five years ago by this phone call.
He closed his eyes and gritted his teeth. “Mom, I… I won’t change! Don’t persuade me, I…”
“Yanjin.” Mother Shen sighed deeply. “Come home when you have time. Your dad and I are both here.”
Shen Yanjinās eyes snapped open.
