Chapter 27: Tactics Leaked
After speaking with Yuan Jibai, the head coach went back and sent a message in the coaches’ group chat: “Tomorrow we’ll study new tactics together! Focused on Little Bai playing damage carry!” After sending the message, he felt extremely exhausted and fell asleep immediately.
Early the next morning, sunlight spilled into the room through the curtains. Wu Cheng’s phone suddenly rang; the time showed it wasn’t even seven yet. The head coach picked up the phone sleepily, asking in confusion: “What’s wrong early in the morning?”
Wu Cheng’s urgent and anxious voice came from the other end: “Damn it, don’t know which bastard leaked the tactics. Go check Weibo quickly! I’m furious!”
The head coach sobered up instantly, a wave of anger surging in his heart. They had just discussed letting Yuan Jibai practice laning/side-lane carry heroes yesterday, and this news was only posted to the coaches’ group chat in the early morning. How could it be exposed so quickly? Who exactly did this?
While cursing, the head coach quickly opened his phone to check Weibo. Sure enough, their tactics had been made public, and the comment section was in chaos. Netizens speculated, questioned, and expressed dissatisfaction. Some even expressed disappointment in the team, asking why they were messing around with tactics in a wild core (jungler carry) season.
The head coach felt angry and helpless. This leak not only affected the team’s reputation, but more importantly, opponents would likely make targeted adjustments based on this information, putting them at a disadvantage in matches.
“We must find this mole as soon as possible. We can’t let this happen again!” The head coach said to Wu Cheng.
Wu Cheng naturally knew this principle. The two hit it off instantly and met up back at the base.
“Old Wu! Besides the two of us, there are four coaches in the group. This matter shouldn’t be delayed; investigate now!”
Wu Cheng nodded along, then the two walked into the conference room together and began discussing the recent movements of the few suspects.
“That guy Old Li has been elusive recently, but the other two haven’t shown their faces much either. Only Old Guan has been inseparable from me lately. Anyway, Old Li and Old Zhang are the most suspicious.”
The coach sorted out his thoughts and ultimately believed those two were the most suspicious. After all, the beneficiaries were all the teams in the entire KPL alliance. Everyone knew their team had a new Mid Laner joining, and Chi Jing’s hero pool was extremely deep and elusive. Coupled with their outstanding performance in scrimsāundefeated so far, winning with excellent records every timeātheir reputation had long spread. Who exactly found them an eyesore?
Chi Jing had actually been woken up early by a call from a streamer friend, but he didn’t wake Yuan Jibai, choosing to let him continue sleeping. At the same time, Chi Jing began to think about this problem. As far as he knew, the FM coaching staff were all old members who had followed the team for many years. It was unlikely they would do such a thing. So, who leaked the tactics?
Chi Jing also recalled the situation last night. He thought the time of the tactic change should have been in the early morning. The coach left relatively late then, and Yuan Jibai was still playing games.
Therefore, the only ones who could have leaked the tactics were the coaches. Furthermore, Yuan Jibai practiced laning heroes all night; he wouldn’t actively propose to the coach to use these heroes on the field. So, it could only have been proposed by the coach.
Perhaps the head coach wanted Yuan Jibai to retire in a glorious way and had prepared to develop new tactics, notifying the rest of the coaching staff. However, puzzlingly, somehow a mistake occurred within, eventually triggering this leak incident.
“Really strange!”
Chi Jing’s doubts couldn’t be dispelled. Finally unable to hold back, he quickly changed clothes and knocked directly on Qi Feng’s room door.
“Brother Feng? Are you in there?”
After several knocks, rustling sounds of changing clothes came from inside. Not long after, Qi Feng opened the door, obviously still a bit sleepy, with heavy “waking-up temper” on his face; even the pillow had been thrown on the floor by him.
“What’s wrong?” Qi Feng, having just woken up, sounded slightly childish. Chi Jing muttered secretly in his heart but didn’t delay the main business. He told Qi Feng the price his friend told him and his own speculations.
When Qi Feng heard the words “tactics leaked,” he sobered up completely. He went back to his room, washed his face, and called Wu Cheng.
“Brother Cheng, today…”
Before he could finish, he was interrupted by Wu Cheng.
“We are in the conference room.”
After speaking, he hung up. Chi Jing and Qi Feng pushed open the conference room door together. The atmosphere inside was somewhat stagnant.
“What’s going on? Found the person?” Qi Feng frowned, his tone carrying a trace of dissatisfaction and doubt. At this moment, his mood was on the verge of exploding. He cursed secretly in his heart: Can any random cat or dog enter the FM base now?
Wu Cheng frowned tightly and said heavily, “Not yet, but we have some suspects. Just lack solid evidence currently.”
Hearing this, Qi Feng raised an eyebrow, a look of disdain on his face, as if saying: “Is this even a problem?”
Seeing Qi Feng’s expression, Wu Cheng couldn’t help laughing out loud. This young master was actually somewhat useful at critical moments.
Chi Jing still felt confused. Seeing his look, Wu Cheng suddenly remembered he forgot to tell him about this matter. So he explained: “Oh, his family does business and has wide connections. Investigating such trivial matters is a piece of cake for him. We almost forgot about this young master.”
The head coach’s expression also gradually relaxed, smiling heartily as he said: “Indeed, haha.”
However, Chi Jing couldn’t quite smile, calculating in his heart exactly how many things he was still keeping from him.
Forget it, can’t dwell on this kind of thing at a time like this. Better see if we can deal with the person first. At this hour, no one was up; they were all in dreamland. Presumably, Mo Jingchun and Little Song were still snuggling together.
He took out his phone and scrolled through his Moments for a while, his eyelids twitching at Song Qi’s abstract literature.
Song: “I will never play King of Glory again,” but Tencent cares not for the prisoner’s life or death, even punishing more at night, until finally the prisoner has a mental breakdown, develops Stockholm Syndrome, and launches King of Glory on the dot every day with disheveled hair and a dirty face. It’s truly terrifying.
“…”
And Yuan Jibai’s:
“In the minute you didn’t reply to my message, my heart felt like it had a big hole. Your promise is as light as a sheet of paper. The short thinking time made me wait for you like a rock. Your coldness hurt me, your silence hurt me. My heart is pitch black, my life is also pitch black.”
…A bunch of nutjobs. Yuan Jibai would never have guessed that after playing with abstract humor all his life, the world finally started getting abstract with him.
Qi Feng’s content followed closely behind.
“You say loved, pained, hated, hurt, waited, thought, missed, wrote, drunk, laughed, cried, teared, injured, had, dreamed, gazed, understood, saddened, grieved, helpless, sentimental, sorrowed, heartbroken. Infatuation isn’t a sin, forgetting isn’t free. Thinking of you until heart-torn and lung-split, what is the result?”
Is there not a single normal person in this base?
