Chapter 35-36 (Combined) part 1
There had never been a moment when Bian Rui found Bai Sinian quite as adorable as he did right now.
Back when they weren’t very close, Bai Sinian gave off the impression of a steady, reliable adult. But after spending more time together, Bian Rui discovered that he had a very childish side—especially when he was making a fuss like this.
Bian Rui smiled as he watched Bai Sinian rush into the bathroom to get dressed before coming back out. Only then did he speak up: “If you’re giving the keychains, what should I give? Help me think of something.”
Bai Sinian wailed inwardly. He had racked his brains to come up with one idea, and now he had to think for Bian Rui too? Giving gifts was such a headache.
“How about we just say the gift I prepared is from both of us?” Bai Sinian couldn’t think of anything else, so he suggested this.
Bian Rui didn’t even hesitate. “Okay.”
Okay? Just like that? So casual?
Bian Rui didn’t overthink it. It was just a keychain, after all, and he really couldn’t be bothered to spend too much energy on gift-giving.
Bai Sinian nodded. “Alright, fine. You can leave this to me, don’t worry about it!”
The matter of Shen Bei’s birthday gift was finally settled. Tomorrow, Bai Sinian would have to find a chance to secretly talk to Cui Yeyi and Fan Hongyi, reminding them not to make Shen Bei suffer any social embarrassment.
Every day, there was something new to worry about.
After morning classes the next day, Bai Sinian returned to the classroom to continue working on practice problems. There weren’t many people around at noon, making it quiet and perfect for settling down to study.
He was working on an English test paper. His pen danced across the paper, fluid and fast, though his brows were slightly furrowed in extreme concentration.
Suddenly, a brand-new box landed on his test paper. He looked closely—it was a phone box! And it was a new model worth over five thousand yuan!
Bai Sinian shot his head up. “Bian Rui?!”
A hint of a smile welled up in the depths of Bian Rui’s eyes. He straddled the chair in front of Bai Sinian and explained, “The guy who broke your phone last time paid for it.”
Bai Sinian was shocked. “Huh? Really? But… but my phone wasn’t worth this price!”
Bian Rui’s eyes flickered, looking away slightly guiltily. “Maybe that uncle is just rich. Anyway, the security guard gave it to me. He said it was the final settlement.”
Afraid Bai Sinian wouldn’t believe him, Bian Rui added, “If you don’t believe me, you can come with me to ask the security guard after school.”
That convinced Bai Sinian. He hadn’t expected such good luck to fall from the sky. Hehe. He happily and hurriedly tore open the packaging.
The phone’s white front panel contrasted sharply with the body color, creating a strong visual impact. Paired with the glass back, it showcased a simple yet exquisite aesthetic. Bai Sinian’s eyes were glowing. “Wow, this look, this feel… it really is a new phone!”
Watching Bai Sinian’s delighted expression, Bian Rui felt surprisingly happy. It was a rare experience for him. He had spent his own money to buy Bai Sinian a phone, yet seeing Bai Sinian happy made his own mood lift as well.
Five thousand yuan wasn’t a small amount for him, but ever since Bai Sinian had taken care of his mother, a massive sense of trust had formed—a trust that couldn’t be measured by price.
“Take your time playing with it. I’m going back to my class,” Bian Rui said, standing up.
Bai Sinian looked up, eyeing Bian Rui eagerly. “Thank you, Bian Rui.”
“Mm.” Bian Rui walked away in a good mood.
For the entire day, Bai Sinian hugged his new phone and played with it—except during class, of course.
During dinner, Bai Sinian held the phone, coordinating with the artist for the drawings, and then contacted a seller who made acrylic keychains. Everything was proceeding smoothly.
Moreover, the phone’s camera function was powerful. The native camera had built-in beautification, so there was no need to edit photos; the raw images came out looking like posters.
This was simply fantastic! Under the pretext of testing the camera, Bai Sinian took many more photos of the group.
In the blink of an eye, the weekend arrived. According to the plan, they needed to practice their song and shoot the music video this weekend.
Keep calm carry on
Don’t be silly
Poor and young
For yourself, and so
Your family can lean on your shoulder
Instead of envying the fish in the abyss, retreat and weave a net
It’s impossible to hide in Murmansk Harbor forever
Put on your headphones and hear the cry in your heart
Beneath the dirtiest toilet in Scotland lies a clear sea…
Bian Rui’s voice was melodious and pleasant, clear and penetrating. Whether high notes or low, he handled them with ease.
Shen Bei lowered his head, fully focused on strumming the guitar strings, every note accurate. Cui Yeyi sat behind the drum kit, hands alternating strikes, providing a stable rhythm for the performance.
Fan Hongyi focused on his bass, fingers sliding over the strings, producing a deep and powerful sound.
To achieve this effect after more than ten repeated practice sessions—Bai Sinian was frantically applauding them in his heart. As expected, they were people with talent!
The next task was up to Bai Sinian. He needed to go to the school to gather material, filming daily lives of the senior students, and getting establishing shots in classrooms, the playground, and the cafeteria for the video.
After all, making a semi-professional MV required these elements.
With Bai Sinian’s editing experience, combined with the high definition of the new phone, the resulting video was excellent. After posting it to their “Dazzling Star” account, it quickly resonated with many high school students.
The audience was mostly high schoolers and college students, with a small portion being music-loving working professionals.
Bai Sinian knew exactly what he was doing. Win over a group of students now, and when they grew up and made money, they would better support the band. Even without money, a few years later, there would be plenty of nostalgia.
By then, there would be no need for Shen Bei to spend his own money faking data!
Everything was under his control.
The retweet count for this video reached hundreds of thousands—the data was quite gratifying.
With Shen Bei’s birthday coming up, everyone could take the opportunity to celebrate properly.
Time flew, and it was soon Shen Bei’s birthday—May 1st, Labor Day, which meant everyone had time off. The birthday was held at home since Shen Bei was a bit socially anxious and didn’t like overly exaggerated celebrations.
Bai Sinian and the other three agreed to head to Shen Bei’s villa early in the morning.
“Xiao Bei, Xiao Bei!”
The four of them finally walked from the entrance of the villa complex to Shen Bei’s house. Cui Yeyi stood outside yelling.
Moments later, Shen Bei appeared wearing a loose white shirt, the collar and cuffs embellished with delicate cartoon patterns, looking lively yet stylish.
Over the shirt, he wore a cropped knitted vest in a warm beige color, adding a gentle touch. He wore simple jeans below, cuffs slightly rolled up to reveal white sneakers.
His hair had been carefully styled, soft against his forehead, slightly curled at the sides, looking both cute and playful. A brilliant smile hung on his face. “You guys are here!”
Shen Bei opened the door and led them into the villa. Bai Sinian walked very carefully over the cobblestone path.
Cui Yeyi held up the bag in his hand. “Da-da-da-da! This is your birthday present! Open it quick!”
“Really? I get a present?!”
