Chapter 27 Deceptive Humans
The three of them were in low spirits on their way back, none of them speaking.
From time to time, they saw a few daisies by the roadside, blooming stubbornly against the wind.
At the fork in the road, Han Qing said, “You two go back first, I’m going to find a craftsman to make another bed.”
“We’ll go with you.”
Qin Xiao and Ji Nian wanted to follow.
Han Qing waved her hand. “No need, you go back, remember to eat.”
Actually, both boys understood that they had only been in the village for a few days and were still being ostracized.
Han Qing did this to protect them.
Ji Nian said, “Actually, you don’t need to make a bed, just a wooden plank will do.”
Han Qing replied, “Then I’ll just ask the craftsman to make a wooden plank.”
Han Qing walked towards the gathering place of the villagers, while Ji Nian and Qin Xiao continued home.
The wind blew through the grass. Qin Xiao suddenly pulled Ji Nian. “Look over there.”
Ji Nian followed his gaze and saw a rabbit in the grass.
It had grey fur and red eyes, and was cautiously eating grass, its three-lobed mouth chewing incredibly fast.
“Do you want to eat rabbit meat?”
Qin Xiao asked Ji Nian.
“Duh, do you want to?”
Ji Nian retorted, and so the two teenagers quietly approached the little grey rabbit.
They cooperated and divided the work: one chased, the other blocked.
Qin Xiao was in charge of chasing, and Ji Nian was in charge of blocking.
They gave each other an “OK” sign and began their meat-eating battle.
This battle started completely without Mr. Rabbit’s knowledge. Humans are so deceptive!
Fortunately, Mr. Rabbit was quick-witted, realizing that two malicious figures were approaching, he took off.
Ji Nian knew he would run this way, and pounced.
Mr. Rabbit was startled and immediately braked and turned, Ji Nian missed, but fortunately Qin Xiao was chasing behind, leaping into the air. Mr. Rabbit glanced back and, seeing this, seemed to have seen his natural enemy—Brother Hawk.
Without thinking twice, he ran even faster.
No way, he would be eaten by these two deceitful guys, he had to escape.
Usually, Qin Xiao and Ji Nian might have spared such a cute little rabbit, but right now, they couldn’t.
This rabbit must have been far from home, it ran and ran, without finding a hole to hide in, finally being chased by Ji Nian and Qin Xiao to the edge of the iron plates, only able to run along them.
Its four legs moved incredibly fast. Ji Nian and Qin Xiao each stood on one side, watching Mr. Rabbit run into their trap, feeling like absolute villains.
Having successfully caught the grey rabbit, the two were sweating profusely. On their way back, Qin Xiao asked Ji Nian, “What kind of flavor do you want? Spicy or savory?”
Ji Nian held the rabbit by its ears, glancing at him. “As if you know how to cook.”
“I don’t, but Grandma does.”
Qin Xiao took a couple of quick steps backwards to look at him.
The wind blew their hair, and their large clothes billowed in the wind, making the two boys look even thinner.
“Say, what do you want to eat?”
“Savory.”
Ji Nian said calmly, looking into the distance. After walking a few more steps, he saw several people walking towards them from afar, looking about their age, eighteen or nineteen years old.
Ji Nian raised an eyebrow. “Look?”
Qin Xiao turned his head and looked. “Who? Do you know them?”
Ji Nian wanted to kick him. “Are you sick? Why would I know them?”
Qin Xiao didn’t speak, staring at those people. Ji Nian said, “The only thing of value we have is Mr. Rabbit. Do you think they’ll try to steal Mr. Rabbit from us?”
As they walked, they continued to talk. “Mm, that’s reasonable; the only thing we can eat is Mr. Rabbit.”
“Should we run?”
Ji Nian didn’t want to have any unpleasant encounters; it wasn’t that he was afraid of being driven out of the village. He didn’t want to cause trouble for Han Qing.
“Run?”
Qin Xiao bent down, pulled a blade of grass, and put it in his mouth, lazily.
Before the grass even reached his mouth, Ji Nian snatched it away. “Don’t put anything in your mouth, what if it’s been peed on?”
He… is he concerned about me?
Damn!
Qin Xiao looked at him, at him, at him, his eyes seemed to have something about to burst forth.
