Part 2
The magic marks were gold.
High-level monsters mostly had special markings on their bodies representing the strength of their magic.
Qin Huai had killed monsters for so many years but had never seen golden magic marks, only heard of them.
Even the hearsay referred to only one.
That monster was overly powerful, overly ferocious, referred to as a deity by the military academy and other monsters.
Over a decade ago, It tried to raze a small country to the ground, triggering a Great War between humans and monsters.
His parents died in that Great War.
Qin Huai looked at the ominous magic mark, but wasn’t too surprised in his heart.
He reached out to pinch the soft flesh Duan Ke was gradually gaining, saying, “Just secondary differentiation. Don’t be afraid, not pregnant with a baby.”
Duan Ke was easily teased into a little boiling kettle, stammering, so obedient he couldn’t even say a word of rebuttal.
Qin Huai laughed muffledly, picking up the little boiling kettle. He gently pinched the soft flesh at Duan Ke’s waist, walking out of the office as if no one were around.
Qin Huai didn’t show anything, but his heart indeed settled a lot.
Perhaps Duan Ke wasn’t as in need of protection as he thought. He was much stronger than imagined, and also much tougher—a lover who made one feel very reassured and proud.
Qin Huai drove the car on the spacious night road. Duan Ke sat in the passenger seat playing Snake.
There were many times they stayed quiet, but it didn’t feel awkward; instead, it was very comfortable.
During red lights, Duan Ke would lean his body toward the driver’s seat to ask for a brief kiss. Or show Qin Huai his Snake record, and some photos.
“Brother look, I went to check out this new shop with a friend yesterday. This ice cream is delicious; accompany me there next time.”
Qin Huai gave a “Mn” and asked, “Is this ball your friend?”
Duan Ke initially thought he was talking about the ice cream, baffled for a moment before realizing Qin Huai meant the little black ball in the frame.
“Uh… yes. He is a good succubus! Brother can’t catch him.”
Qin Huai recalled; he had seen this ball. The one Duan Ke put in his pocket when he came to his house to treat his wound before.
He didn’t care about the ball; he cared about something else. Qin Huai asked, “Can you turn into this too? A ball with a tail and horns.”
The red light still had tens of seconds. Duan Ke nodded: “Yes, moving is very convenient when turned into a ball.”
Like sneaking into the Bureau to steal data or something.
Qin Huai laughed silently. “Very cute. Can you turn into it for me to see when we get home?”
Duan Ke imagined the scene of revealing his true form in front of the Inquisitor himself and shuddered all over. He still couldn’t fully adapt to his boyfriend’s new identity and firmly refused this request.
Qin Huai didn’t mind; if Duan Ke didn’t show him now, he’d have to show him in bed.
The green light turned on. The two stopped talking; Qin Huai focused on driving.
Car horns sounded occasionally; streetlights hit Duan Ke’s side profile. His eyes were bright, occasionally becoming easily happy because his little snake dominated the entire game screen.
Arriving at the gate, Qin Huai drove into the basement. A very cute puppy passed by on a leash held by its owner; Duan Ke sprawled on the car window and said “Wow,” turning his back to wave at Qin Huai.
“Brother look, this puppy is so cute!”
No one answered behind him.
Duan Ke asked a few more times, but Qin Huai didn’t react. He froze for a moment, looking back in confusion.
The person in the seat wasn’t Qin Huai.
It was a person who looked exactly like himself, but dripping with blood. It smiled eerily, looking at Duan Ke triumphantly.
Duan Ke: …
Luckily he knew in advance this was a monster, not a ghost. Otherwise, he really would have fainted from fright.
Duan Ke remembered Heracles being bitten before and figured out why his boyfriend suddenly disappeared. This thief stole Heracles’ spatial rift and moved Qin Huai somewhere else.
That monster didn’t say much, lunging straight at him, clearly wanting to swallow Duan Ke.
Duan Ke smelled the scent of mountains of corpses and seas of blood on the other party, his brows furrowing tightly. He pinched his nose and gave the hand reaching over a whack with his tail; that hand rolled right onto the floor.
Two monsters stared at the bloody arm in the car, silent.
Duan Ke: ?
Dream Demon: ???
[Aren’t you in a cold war with him?]
The Dream Demon’s voice was full of rage. [Why did your magic recover so fast… and you underwent secondary differentiation?!]
Hearing this, Duan Ke suddenly realized.
Tonight was the night of the full moon, the time when succubi were weakest. Moreover, before eating tonight, Duan Ke’s stomach was indeed very hungry—after all, he hadn’t eaten properly for four days.
But unfortunately, he had just been fed full by Qin Huai once, in Qin Huai’s office which had extremely strong defense that no monster could pry into.
“You are so stupid.” Duan Ke looked at the other party, sighing deeply.
He spoke with genuine feeling, “Never seen such an unintelligent monster! And extraordinarily unlucky too.”
High attack power; the Dream Demon was angered into an afterimage, yet powerless to fight back, collapsing silently on the spot.
Duan Ke didn’t forget what Qin Huai said: at this time, he should swallow It in one bite to eliminate future trouble.
But Duan Ke had never used the spell to devour magic directly; he was a bit unskilled. And this thing smelled terrible; Duan Ke was a succubus who loved cleanliness and really couldn’t bring himself to bite, grinding his little fangs, hesitating for a moment.
It was in this instant that the pragmatic villain immediately fled. It turned into a small clump and jumped out of the car window.
Duan Ke urgently wanted to chase, but the car door wouldn’t open.
This thing’s hard power wasn’t strong, but its means of stealing spells and setting barriers were fierce. If Duan Ke wanted to force his way out, he’d have to blow up his boyfriend’s Maybach.
Duan Ke struggled for a long time, finally unable to sacrifice the Maybach. He lashed his long tail fiercely at the Dream Demon’s retreating figure, using charm magic remotely.
The Dream Demon screamed miserably; part of its magic was sucked away by Duan Ke.
Duan Ke looked down at his tail tip; it was trembling slightly in excitement, absorbing fresh magic.
Like a missing part of himself returning to his body, Duan Ke felt his empty chest being stuffed with a ball of soft cotton, the part missing for too long being refilled.
…This evil monster composed of corpses.
Was it once a part of me?
Duan Ke thought of Qin Huai in uniform, executing monsters without emotion, and his mood suddenly became complicated.
But he didn’t have time to think too much.
Because his consciousness blurred for an instant. When he opened his eyes again, he found he had turned into a ball again, with two short, black front paws in his vision.
Is this dreaming again?
Duan Ke flapped his wings, looking around. This was a large garden, raining drizzly rain. The vision was blurry, but the touch was real; Duan Ke knew this was something he had truly experienced, only forgotten by him.
Duan Ke-ball flew to a spot and stopped. It saw a child holding flowers, standing in the rain in front of a tombstone. He didn’t cry, standing straight, but Duan Ke inexplicably knew this person was very unhappy.
Who is it?
Duan Ke-ball flew forward, wanting to land on this person’s shoulder. But before he could reach, he was grabbed fiercely by a hand.
Duan Ke whimpered twice, pushing against the person’s fingers with his claws. A pair of young but cold eyes looked over without warmth, locking eyes with the little ball in hand.
The little ball stopped moving, stopped struggling, its beady eyes wide open.
…It’s Qin Huai, Qin Huai at seven or eight years old.
Duan Ke suddenly understood what this dream wanted to tell him.
This was the long-forgotten first encounter with Qin Huai.
〓 Author’s Note 〓
Although it’s written in the synopsis, I’ll say it again [Begging you]
Aside from the couple cuddling, this text really doesn’t have much awesome plot orz. Little Ke is ridiculously strong, to the point of exploding the earth with one punch, so this villain will be beaten to death very smoothly by Little Ke… Essentially a two-person stand-up comedy sweet novel.
There won’t be that kind of grand battle scene TT
