Chapter 4: Not for You to Spark the Flames of a Fight
“I didn’t!”
Fang Mo shook his head in a panic, his eyes terribly red, his gaze toward Huo Chen filled with pleading.
“Huo Chen, believe me!”
“I really didn’t mean to make a decision for you! I was just… my mouth was too fast, and we were dating in the first season anyway.”
Huo Chen was not a “beautiful soul.”
The Huo family was a declining noble house in Long City. Though called a noble house, its luck was running out. But a starving camel is still bigger than a horse, and there were many surrounding predators eyeing the Huo family hungrily.
Like vultures circling in the air, waiting for the prey to fall.
Huo Chen was born and raised in this situation, eventually taking over the Huo family.
He was different from his naturally kind parents.
One was one, and two was two.
He couldn’t tolerate sand in his eyes. Just after taking over the Huo Corporation, he dug out those old parasites. During that time, he was insulted and threatened. Later, as he climbed up step by step, he also suffered many underhanded tactics.
He had seen too many people.
Of all shapes and stripes, harboring ulterior motives.
Clearly, Fang Mo belonged to one of those categories. The innocence and kindness were a facade; wanting to use that skin to get close to him was the truth.
Huo Chen wasn’t interested in love or marriage.
But if he ultimately had to find a partner, it absolutely wouldn’t be someone like Fang Mo—gentle but emotionally unstable…
“Who knows.”
Huo Chen lowered his eyes.
Even though his neck was still being gripped, Lin Huaizhi didn’t look like he felt any sense of danger. He even had the mind to continue provoking Fang Mo.
Obviously, his emotional stability was terrifying.
“Do you know Schrödinger’s cat?”
“Unless we open the box, we will never know if the cat is dead or alive. Similarly, unless we cut open your heart, we will never know if you did or didn’t.”
Fang Mo was choked with a bellyful of anger.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t manipulate words like Lin Huaizhi. He could only look like he was about to weep. “I don’t know why you have such great malice toward me, but the innocent remain innocent. If you insist on wrongly accusing me like this, I have no way to defend myself.”
Lin Huaizhi wanted to say more, but the director rushed out first. “We are filming a dating show! Not a talk show or a debate competition!”
“I only want to see you spark the flames of love, not the flames of a fight!”
“And you!”
The director rushed in front of Lin Huaizhi and started spraying.
“You know how powerful your mouth is! Fang Mo is a guest! Not one of those executives under you who can handle any scolding when they make a mistake! He doesn’t have that strong of a psychological constitution. What if you make him cry later!”
“Then the internet will be full of trending topics about you abusing your power! And conspiracy theories that we opened this dating show just to pick a partner for you!”
Keyboard warriors preparing to start trouble: Did he just predict us?
【Hahaha! The director getting angry and breaking character is actually really cute!】
【Chu Xiaoran relies on being friends with Lin Huaizhi, so he dares to go against him. The director is so bold, is he going to get fired directly?】
【Wait, why do I feel like the director looks like he’s scolding Lin Huaizhi, but he’s actually implying Fang Mo made a mistake and has low psychological resilience?】
Lin Huaizhi smiled, looking not the least bit offended or angry.
“Is it that serious?”
“It is that serious!” The director stood with hands on his hips. “Can we record this show or not! Starting off with this kind of reverse live-stream effect—if it really doesn’t work, just fire me and find someone else to direct!”
The director could talk tough because he naturally had the strength to back it up.
Most dramas produced by Huameng had high ratings. Apart from good scripts and talented actors, the directors deserved a lot of credit. After all, whether what was presented through the lens was good or bad depended on the director.
Huameng used its own directing team.
And the content of the directing team was powerful.
This director didn’t direct serious dramas; most of what he handled were variety shows. The workplace and lifestyle variety shows he directed previously had achieved very good results.
Talent is the cornerstone of a company.
Lin Huaizhi knew this principle well, and he respected all talented people.
Besides, the director hadn’t just scolded him.
Didn’t he also secretly scold Fang Mo?
“You can direct.”
“No one but you can direct this dating show.”
The director’s face finally looked a bit better. “Then guarantee that you won’t increase the difficulty of my work and that you will follow the rules of the game.”
Lin Huaizhi kept smiling.
“Of course, I’ll follow the game rules. I’ll also try not to cause you trouble. You don’t need to treat me as the boss, nor give me any special privileges.”
Saying that, he looked at Huo Chen.
“I came here only to chase someone.”
The director followed Lin Huaizhi’s gaze. Damn, it would have been better not to look. Looking at these two was heartbreaking!
“You’re still choking his neck!”
“You just want to pursue him, yet you’re going for his life. Being so good at business, are you secretly the world’s richest man?”
Huo Chen didn’t make a sound.
But his hand silently retracted.
Afraid that more unexpected incidents would occur, the director galloped through the flow.
“The guests have all arrived. Next is the room selection segment. The program team has specially designed a game for this segment called ‘Destiny across a Thousand Miles’.”
“The rules are that you need to perform to get votes. The number of votes determines the order of room selection.”
“Simply put, guests are invited to perform a talent. The performance is not limited to instruments, martial arts, dance, singing, etc. After the performances, the guests can vote for each other.”
“But the new guest today holds a special ticket. His ticket is absolute, meaning whoever he votes for possesses the right to choose a room first today.”
As he spoke, the director stepped aside.
On the wide lawn behind him, quite a few instruments were set up. A glance revealed a piano, guitar, drum set, and even classical instruments like the guzheng and erhu.
Besides instruments, there were also some common weapons.
Such as swords, spears, staffs, and cudgels.
The guests discussed the performance order and finally decided to perform in the order of their initial appearance.
First up was Chu Xiaoran.
He chose the piano and played “Mariage d’Amour.” Immediately, the fans listened as if drunk or entranced, saying things like, “It’s like hearing fairy music, momentarily clearing the ears.”
Lin Huaizhi glanced at the bullet comments.
“Mariage d’Amour” was beginner-friendly; he could play it with his eyes closed. Chu Xiaoran had, at best, managed to play it without stumbling.
Calling it fairy music.
Have some shame.
Fortunately, there were knowledgeable people in the comments too.
【The praise is a bit much. “Mariage d’Amour” isn’t that difficult. A beginner who studies seriously for a few times can play like this. It really can’t be counted as fairy music.】
【You go up if you can. If you can’t, shut up. We all see how amazing my Xiao is; do we need your critique?】
【Exactly, exactly! Our brother is clearly already very amazing! People who belittle him have no brains! Or are you all paid trolls hired by Lin Huaizhi to destroy our brother because he can’t have him?】
