Chapter 44: “How Did You Know Where I Live?”
Half an hour later, a neatly dressed Huo Chen, carrying a thermos container and a bag of medicine, stood at Lin Huaizhi’s door.
Zhou Ning was panting heavily. “The password is 9317. Go ahead and open it.”
After waiting a long time, Zhou Ning didn’t see the door open. Instead, he received a cold, indifferent look from Huo Chen.
Zhou Ning: “…”
Having learned to read people’s expressions, Zhou Ning naturally understood the meaning of this look—You’ve led the way, why haven’t you scrammed yet?
Yeah, that was roughly the meaning.
Zhou Ning had been accompanying his girlfriend at the night market when he received the call. It was a strange number, and he only realized it was Huo Chen after answering.
Huo Chen had left his number when they departed previously.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to get Huo Chen’s number before, but this man looked like he wouldn’t give it out, and he didn’t want to humiliate himself.
Huo Chen said Lin Huaizhi might have a fever and asked him to lead the way to check on him. Zhou Ning didn’t say a second word; he dropped his girlfriend off and went to pick up Huo Chen.
He picked him up alright, but he felt like he was being used a bit too thoroughly as a tool.
Forget it.
Who asked his boss to like this guy?
“Then I won’t go in. If anything happens, notify me directly.”
Huo Chen nodded.
Then, he opened the door and closed it. His movements were swift and decisive, not allowing Zhou Ning even a glimpse of the interior layout.
Zhou Ning: “…”
They aren’t even dating yet, and this guy’s possessiveness is already this strong. If they really start dating in the future, won’t he have to be constantly mindful of keeping a distance from his boss?
Just thinking about it was suffocating!
Lin Huaizhi really did have a fever.
In his groggy state, he thought he heard the door open. His blurred consciousness instantly snapped into focus. He opened his eyes, carefully took a dagger from the drawer, and stealthily positioned himself behind the bedroom door.
Is it a thief?
Even password locks can be cracked; the technology of thieves these days is truly advanced.
The footsteps got closer and closer. Lin Huaizhi held his breath. The moment the bedroom door was pushed open, he leaped out like a leopard, tackling the intruder directly to the floor.
There was the sound of something falling to the ground, but Lin Huaizhi paid it no mind. Instead, he pressed the dagger firmly against the intruder’s neck.
“Who is it!”
The interrogation, meant to be sharp, lost its imposing momentum due to his cold.
“Holding a knife to someone’s neck—is this your way of treating a guest?”
The voice he had heard from his phone not long ago was now ringing directly in his ear. Lin Huaizhi froze completely.
He thought he had misheard. He didn’t relax his vigilance, but his mouth still wanted to verify.
“…Huo Chen?”
“It’s me.”
The man’s voice was heavier and clearer. Lin Huaizhi used his other hand to touch the person’s face, his eyes widening.
“It really is you?”
The young man dropped the dagger, both hands now touching Huo Chen’s face, unable to suppress the laughter in his voice.
“Why are you here?”
“Wait, no, how did you know where I live?”
Huo Chen didn’t rush to answer. “Get off me first.”
Lin Huaizhi lay on top of him, refusing to move. “I’m a little out of energy. Let me catch my breath first.”
Huo Chen didn’t fall for it at all.
Relying on his formidable arm strength, he not only sat up himself but also pulled Lin Huaizhi up with him.
Feeling for the switch on the wall, Huo Chen adjusted the lights to a soft mode. Only then did he see that Lin Huaizhi was completely naked, wearing nothing even on his feet.
Huo Chen’s eye twitched, his heart skipped a beat, and his hand immediately pressed the switch to turn the lights off.
“You…”
“Not wearing any clothes… what kind of behavior is this!”
“It’s uncomfortable to sleep with clothes on, so I took them all off. I didn’t know you were coming.” Lin Huaizhi’s entire state improved visibly, his voice filled with irrepressible joy. “Are you shy?”
Relying on his good night vision, Huo Chen found the closet and took out a set of pajamas.
“Put these on.”
Lin Huaizhi was very obedient, though he continued to tease Huo Chen while dressing. “What’s there to be shy about? I have what you have; our hardware is the same…”
He paused as he spoke.
In Huo Chen’s field of vision, he clearly saw the young man pull open his pants to take a look, then say, “Wearing pajama pants without underwear feels empty. I feel like there’s no difference between this and walking around flashing people. How about I just don’t wear them?”
Huo Chen reached the limit of his patience.
“Put them on!”
“Fine, fine, I’ll put them on. I’ll do whatever makes you happy,” Lin Huaizhi rasped, talking dirty with a hoarse voice. “But you’re going to see it eventually. If you react like this now, what about later? Are we not going to have a sex life?”
Huo Chen wished he could gag him.
“If you have a cold, drink more water and talk less. No one thinks you’re a mute!”
Lin Huaizhi shut up.
Huo Chen turned on the light again. This time, the clothes were on, but his feet were still bare. Huo Chen felt agitated just looking at them.
“Go back to bed and lie down.”
Lin Huaizhi stared wide-eyed, not opening his mouth at all.
Huo Chen frowned. “Speak!”
Lin Huaizhi, having his seal lifted, didn’t continue being shameless this time, though he wasn’t exactly dignified either. “I seem to be a bit drained of strength. How about you carry me back to bed?”
Huo Chen sneered.
“You could flip me over and hold a knife to my neck just a moment ago, and now you have no strength?”
Lin Huaizhi didn’t blush… oh wait, his face was still red from the fever, but it didn’t stop him from lying. “That was because I thought a thief had broken in. I sat up in shock while dying of illness and exploded with immense potential. Now that the potential is used up, I don’t have a shred of strength left.”
Huo Chen’s face was written with Go on, keep making things up.
Lin Huaizhi stopped making things up. “Fine then, I’ll walk back myself.”
Huo Chen felt something was off about those words. Sure enough, Lin Huaizhi looked like he was walking, but the next second, he performed a flat fall right in front of him.
Huo Chen, with quick eyes and hands, caught him. His eyes were as cold as ice. “Since you can be so ruthless to yourself, why call me and say you’re suffering?”
Lin Huaizhi didn’t argue.
He reached out to hug Huo Chen, burying his face in the man’s warm neck and rubbing against it, his posture full of attachment and dependence.
“I’ve always been ruthless to myself. Before, I had no choice. Now, I feel like being a bit ruthless doesn’t matter because you are here. You won’t let anything happen to me.”
“You have more confidence than I do myself.”
Lin Huaizhi hugged him, his voice soft. “I do. Since you came, you won’t ignore me. I know—you look cold, but actually, you’re not cold at all.”
Huo Chen fell silent.
A moment later, he scoffed.
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Don’t use your filters to understand me.”
Despite saying this, Huo Chen still picked up Lin Huaizhi in a princess carry and placed him back on the bed.
Huo Chen had never taken care of anyone, but with Lin Huaizhi, he seemed to have awakened some dormant talent for considerateness.
First, he poured hot water for Lin Huaizhi. After Lin Huaizhi drank it, he fed him the porridge he had brought.
Speaking of which, Huo Chen didn’t feed him at first.
Lin Huaizhi didn’t ask him to, either. He just wordlessly played his tricks—shaking his hand eight hundred times for every sip of porridge. If Huo Chen hadn’t been watching, he would have shaken it right onto the quilt.
“Restrain yourself a little.”
Huo Chen’s brow never relaxed. Even as he said this, he picked up the porcelain spoon and began to feed the porridge to Lin Huaizhi.
“Open your mouth.”
Lin Huaizhi seemed to restrain himself, but not really. After eating two more mouthfuls, he started complaining it was hot.
“Blow on it for me.”
The young man blinked his eyes, not minding showing his vulnerability in the slightest.
“I beg you. You’re so good, surely you’ll help me blow on it so I don’t get burned, right?”
