Chapter 41: He Is My Ancestor
“Really can’t.” Cheng Ge rejected sternly. He couldn’t let his hard-earned freedom fly away.
“Alright,” Cheng Ge patted Wen Ling’s shoulder. “Remember to cover yourself well with the quilt when sleeping at night. Just imagine the big bear as me, okay? Goodnight.” Saying that, he bolted into his own dorm.
Cheng Ge’s back, and the sound of the door closing, made Wen Ling viciously want to lock Cheng Ge up and claim him for himself again.
Wen Ling twisted open the dorm door handle. Looking up, he met the gazes of roommates Ji Ji and Zhao Zhishen. Zhao Zhishen was sitting on Ji Ji’s chair snatching things to eat.
His two roommates had good personalities, so under their one-sided enthusiasm, Wen Ling’s relationship with the two was okay, with absolutely no conflict.
In fact, Wen Ling wasn’t close to anyone and had no conflict with anyone. Those he had conflicts with had all been retaliated against. Those matters didn’t occupy the slightest position in Wen Ling’s heart. He was an invisible person, barely mixing into this world normally.
Cheng Ge was the only person Wen Ling wanted to possess madly. He only wanted Cheng Ge, the current Cheng Ge.
“Back?” Ji Ji asked grinning. “I bought Bingtanghulu (candied hawthorn stick), want one?”
Ji Ji often loved sharing the food he boughtâof course, the sharee didn’t include Zhao Zhishen. Wen Ling almost never accepted, but thinking today was his birthday, the Bingtanghulu could count as a gift to him.
“Thank you.” Wen Ling accepted the Bingtanghulu and asked, “When is your birthday?”
“Huh?” Ji Ji didn’t understand, but since it was rare for Wen Ling to initiate a topic, Ji Ji was very excited. “January 2nd. What’s up?”
Wen Ling shook his head: “Okay, I know. Nothing.” After speaking, he returned to his seat.
Ji Ji and Zhao Zhishen looked at each other, feeling strange. Then Zhao Zhishen, with quick eyes and hands, snatched a fish ball from Ji Ji’s udon noodles.
The consequence was two slaps from Ji Ji. They were quite loud; Wen Ling heard them too. But Wen Ling didn’t understand how Zhao Zhishen could still laugh so happily.
Really strange.
Cheng Ge’s side.
As soon as he came back, Wang Lei came to pry for information with great curiosity: “Cheng Ge, who was that guy just now? Your brother?”
“No,” Cheng Ge said seriously. “My ancestor.”
He felt what he said made perfect sense. Wen Ling was his ancestor, the kind that had to be offered up.
However, the other three in the dorm looked at each other, not knowing what exactly was the meaning inside this “ancestor.”
Cheng Ge didn’t mind too much. Changing clothes and washing his feet, he climbed into bed with his phone, preparing to sleep.
This was the first time Cheng Ge could sleep by himself after transmigrating. Comfortable sheets, pleasant temperature. He thought without the clingy Wen Ling, he could fall asleep quickly, but unexpectedly, he rarely suffered insomnia.
In. Som. Nia.
Clearly there was nothing in his brainâno happy things, no annoying thingsâbut he just tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
He just felt unaccustomed, felt something was wrong.
Falling asleep with difficulty in the early morning, he actually dreamed. Dreamed of Wen Ling when he was little, extremely tiny, crying and asking him to help change diapers…
Truly seeing a ghost. Around 4 AM, Cheng Ge lay in bed with open eyes, staring at the pitch-black ceiling, tasting a flavor of hopelessness.
Forcing himself to sleep didn’t work. He planned to scroll through his phone to relieve boredom. Before he swiped through two videos, the screen suddenly popped up a chat message from Wen Ling.
Wen Ling: “I don’t like today anymore.”
Cheng Ge clicked in, and another message came.
Wen Ling: “I woke up five times.”
Cheng Ge unconsciously gave a very light “tsk,” and after tsk-ing, didn’t know what he was annoyed about. Probably annoyed that Wen Ling was troublesome.
Mn, that’s it.
Wen Ling: “The big bear is nothing like you at all. What do I do if I can’t sleep now?”
Cheng Ge replied one by one.
Tossing and turning, unable to sleep, Wen Ling simply longed to see and hug Cheng Ge, then had a sudden whim to message Cheng Ge to complain. He didn’t expect to get a response in such a dark and quiet late night.
Cheng Ge: “No use even if you don’t like it, today is already your birthday.”
Cheng Ge: “Ha, I can’t sleep either [Handshake]”
After a while, another message came from Cheng Ge’s side.
“I just dreamed of you, dreamed of when you were little.”
Cheng Ge omitted the detail of helping to wear diapers and roughly recounted his ridiculous dream to Wen Ling.
As a result, Wen Ling sent back: “Do you like children very much?”
What did this have to do with liking children or not?
It’s a trap!
Cheng Ge thought he keenly sensed Wen Ling’s little scheme, so he hammered the keyboard to output wildly.
Wen Ling looked at those chat bubbles on the screen, the corners of his mouth uncontrollably rising.
Cheng Ge: “Don’t know if I like children or not.”
Cheng Ge: “Anyway, I like you very much.”
Cheng Ge: “Especially like you.”
Seeing that Cheng Ge liked him so much, Wen Ling decided to temporarily forgive Cheng Ge for the matter of not sleeping with him.
Cheng Ge saw Wen Ling’s reply “I also especially like you” and the system notification [Conquest value +1%], and knew he had dodged a bullet.
To show concern, Cheng Ge also very thoughtfully urged Wen Ling to cover himself well with the quilt, to squint and rest even if he couldn’t sleep, and told him the harms of staying up late.
Wen Ling said okay, and there were no more messages after that.
Probably fell asleep? Cheng Ge yawned, getting sleepy. Narrowing the corners of his eyes, he fell asleep in a short while.
Because there was no class the next morning, Cheng Ge and Wen Ling ate breakfast and returned to their respective dorms.
Before getting ready to eat lunch together at noon, Cheng Ge looked at the message Wen Ling sent him, completely confused.
Wen Ling: “Give me a set of your clothes.”
When the two were in the villa before, Wen Ling would sometimes wear the wrong clothes of Cheng Ge’s. However, Cheng Ge felt that since Wen Ling bought them all anyway, he didn’t care.
Cheng Ge typed back: “What do you want my clothes for? Didn’t bring enough clothes?”
Wen Ling didn’t reply for a long time. Cheng Ge suspected the other party was guilty, having missed bringing enough clothes even after being told several times.
Cheng Ge found a set of smaller clothes in the closet and knocked on the door of Wen Ling’s dorm.
The door opened after a while. It was Wen Ling who opened it, eyelids drooping, a patch on his forehead red and swollen high.
His expression looked unhappy at a glance.
Cheng Ge lifted the broken hair on Wen Ling’s forehead and asked: “What happened to your forehead?”
“…Was looking at the phone just now, accidentally walked into the wall.”
Looking at that red and swollen bump, Cheng Ge frowned unconsciously. “Why look at the phone while walking? Watch the road.”
“I was waiting for you to reply to the message.” Wen Ling’s voice wasn’t loud, but righteous.
Cheng Ge was speechless.
“Does it hurt?”
“A little.”
For someone like Wen Ling who could endure pain so well to say it hurt, meant it really hurt.
“If you don’t want to endure the pain, find an Ibuprofen in the medicine chest to eat, then spray it with that green spray, or rubbing tea oil a few times works too.”
“I can’t see.” Wen Ling looked up at Cheng Ge, pointing at his big bump, tone carrying grievance.
Cheng Ge remembered Wen Ling’s dislike of mirrors. Having no choice, he asked: “Are your roommates still in the dorm?”
