How Did the Promised Yandere Villain Become a Clingy, Obedient Dog? Chapter 44

Chapter 44: You Are a Good Person

When Cheng Ge arrived at the third-floor cafeteria and found the location Wen Ling had sent a photo of, he discovered Wen Ling wasn’t there, but there was a pile of snacks, looking like someone was hosting a team-building event.

At a glance, it was obvious Wen Ling had no experience and didn’t know to put a backpack or similar item on the seat to reserve it.

Cheng Ge scanned the cafeteria and spotted a familiar back of the head in front of the milk tea shop. He kept his eyes on the person and walked over.

Wen Ling took the milk tea handed by the server, turned around, and saw a familiar pair of shoes walking toward him. Seeming to sense something, he looked up and met Cheng Ge’s gaze.

Cheng Ge clearly noticed that the moment their gazes collided, Wen Ling’s eyes brightened. Not that they literally emitted light, but when Wen Ling looked at him, his expression became much more vivid, mixed with some content Cheng Ge didn’t understand.

It was a very marvelous feeling. No one had ever looked at him with such eyes before.

Cheng Ge handed the Bingtanghulu to Wen Ling, helped him carry the milk tea, and announced the bad news: “The seat you took a photo of has been taken by someone.”

“How is that possible?” Wen Ling looked toward the seat he had chosen. There was no one else there. And how could someone be so lacking in martial virtue (manners)?

“Really.” Cheng Ge walked over with Wen Ling. “Someone wants to host a team-building event there.”

Wen Ling placed the Bingtanghulu next to that large pile of food, feeling very strange. “Who wants to host a team building here?”

“How would I know who, but their stuff is all placed…” Cheng Ge pointed at the table, his words pausing. The chat page where Wen Ling asked him what he liked to eat just now flashed through his mind, and an illogical thought threatened to come out.

“These… surely you didn’t buy all of these, right?”

“Yes.” Wen Ling nodded.

Cheng Ge couldn’t understand. “Why did you buy so much food?”

“For you to eat.”

“Huh?”

“For you to eat.” Wen Ling repeated again.

Cheng Ge: “???”

“For me? Why?” Cheng Ge was completely confused. Why give it to him? Even feeding pigs wouldn’t require this much.

“Because you like it.” Wen Ling’s expression held a hint of pride, looking like… he wanted to be praised?

Just because he liked it?

A very nonsensical but hard-to-refute reason. After all, probably no one else would say they bought something just because he liked it.

“…Thank you. You are a good person.” Cheng Ge couldn’t utter other blunt words like “Do you think I’m a pig?”, “Did you do something guilty?”, or “Is there something wrong with you?”

Maybe he didn’t want to strike down Wen Ling’s reckless and ignorant kindness, or maybe there were other reasons, but Cheng Ge didn’t want to know.

Cheng Ge made Wen Ling pick out what he liked to eat first—he couldn’t eat this much. Then the two of them, no, it should be said Cheng Ge alone, worked very hard to finish the food on the table, while Wen Ling ate unhurriedly, content and at ease.

But the space in a human stomach is limited. After Cheng Ge forced down the Jianbing Guozi, there was still a bowl of deluxe cart noodles, a bucket of barbecue, and Wen Ling’s Bingtanghulu left on the table.

Cheng Ge stood up and wiped his mouth clean with a tissue. “Really can’t eat anymore. Take it back for a late-night snack, or share it with your roommates.”

Wen Ling stood up too. “Okay.”

After the two washed their hands, Cheng Ge carried the remaining food and walked out of the cafeteria with Wen Ling following behind. Originally, they were going to go straight back to the dorm, but Cheng Ge’s stomach was so full he felt like vomiting. Remembering Wen Ling hadn’t exercised much for several days, he dragged the person to go for a walk.

The school was built against a mountain, with one-third of the area surrounded by mountains or built directly at the foot of the mountain. Cheng Ge and Wen Ling walked aimlessly along the cement-paved mountain path.

Cheng Ge glanced at Wen Ling. This person had been fiddling with his neck the whole way, looking like he had cervical spondylosis.

“What’s wrong with your neck?”

Wen Ling looked at Cheng Ge, keeping a straight face aggrievedly. “My neck hurts, it feels very uncomfortable.”

Actually, it was strange to speak of. Before, he didn’t feel his neck uncomfortable or sore even after lowering his head to draw all day. Once, Cheng Ge asked him: Doesn’t your neck feel bad lowering your head all day? Then he massaged his neck for him. It was very comfortable. After that, Wen Ling could always feel his neck aching, but no matter how he kneaded it himself, it wasn’t as comfortable as when Cheng Ge did it.

Cheng Ge placed his hand on Wen Ling’s neck and kneaded it for a while. “Is it any better?”

“Mn.” Wen Ling nodded like a chick pecking at rice. “Very comfortable.”

The night was not deep, but due to years of disrepair on the road, the lights were either out or dim. Cheng Ge couldn’t see Wen Ling’s profile clearly, nor did he know what expression Wen Ling had. Judging by the tone, it was probably very cheerful.

He had intended to retract his hand, but because of Wen Ling’s rising intonation, he ended up continuing to massage.

“Were you keeping your head down the whole time during class?”

“How did you know?” Wen Ling was somewhat pleasantly surprised.

Cheng Ge: “…”

So dumb.

“Guessed.”

Then Wen Ling believed it.

Cheng Ge suddenly felt Wen Ling was like a very dopey and soft kitten. Dumb, and that bit of flesh on his neck was soft.

He also realized belatedly that he was acting as free labor for someone again…

Halfway up the mountain, at the end of the road, there was a small pavilion with tables and chairs, fairly clean.

Wen Ling was tired from walking and sat on the bench leaning against the railing to rest. Cheng Ge sat down beside Wen Ling to rest his feet, enjoying the summer night breeze in the mountains.

Hearing a rustling sound beside him, he turned his head to look. It was Wen Ling tearing the wrapper of the Bingtanghulu. So he had saved it to eat until now. Cheng Ge withdrew his gaze and took out his phone to review the knowledge points he had photographed this morning.

A moment later, a Bingtanghulu appeared in his line of sight. He heard Wen Ling say, “You eat.”

Cheng Ge turned his head, confused. “Mn? What?”

“First bite for you.” Wen Ling just suddenly remembered the scene of Zhao Zhishen giving Ji Ji the grilled gluten in the dorm.

Cheng Ge’s eyes darted around. He felt Wen Ling was really a bit strange today, always doing these intimate, ingratiating things.

He was also weird himself; why did his heartbeat accelerate for no reason!?

He smelled the caramel scent on the Bingtanghulu, then uncontrollably let his thoughts wander, feeling the caramel scent carried a bitterness. Unlike the sweet dessert soup smell when Wen Ling leaned close last night, it seemed to lack something.

Finally, Cheng Ge leaned back and rejected Wen Ling’s invitation. “Thanks, I won’t eat it.”

“Okay then.” Wen Ling didn’t insist at all. He took a bite himself. The sugar crunched in his mouth, cloyingly sweet, but neutralized by the sourness of the hawthorn. The interweaving sweet and sour taste spread in his mouth; Wen Ling liked this taste.

Cheng Ge looked away from Wen Ling’s lips, gazing elsewhere. Suddenly, he glimpsed a bit of green fluorescence beside him. He endured for a moment, turned his head, and found it really was a firefly, right behind Wen Ling’s ear.

In his memory, he hadn’t seen fireflies for a long time, only two or three times in his childhood. Cheng Ge thought: Wen Ling might not have seen fireflies either?

“There’s a fire…” Cheng Ge suddenly fell silent because Wen Ling took the initiative to kiss his lips.

Cheng Ge’s Adam’s apple bobbed.

It was sweet, without bitterness. He discovered Wen Ling had a special scent on him. It was pleasant but very faint; even if it filled the nasal cavity, it was hard to detect.

The feeling that something was missing just now seemed to be an illusion. It seemed nothing was missing.

It really was like biting into jelly, hawthorn flavored, very… special?
