Chapter 54: Selfie
After thinking for a good while, he held the bowl with one hand up to his chin, his eyes looking at the soup with very little left on the screen. With the other hand, he raised the phone, took a selfie, and tapped send.
Actually, Wen Ling felt there was a slight imperfection. He had already wiped his mouth clean, so it didn’t show that he had just eaten the noodles. But he thought Cheng Ge would understand.
In the classroom, the corners of Cheng Ge’s mouth couldn’t stay down. He thought Wen Ling was too funny—so dazed, sending a message for every single thing he did.
Cheng Ge replied one by one: “Then blow on it.”
“Okay.”
“As long as it’s delicious.”
“Got it.”
“Mn.”
After that, there was no movement from Wen Ling. Cheng Ge assumed he was tidying up the takeout box, so he put away his phone and continued listening to the class.
Near the end of class, he flipped open his phone to check the time, only to find the screen showing that Wen Ling had sent him a photo. Cheng Ge remembered he had asked for a photo check, but he didn’t expect that after making so many detailed reports, Wen Ling had actually taken a picture.
Cheng Ge intended to take a casual look. He tapped in, and the next second, his phone dropped onto the desk…
Holy sh*t, holy sh*t, holy sh*t…
Cheng Ge flipped his phone face down, his palm covering it tightly, his eyes wide open, looking a bit bewildered.
The lighting in the photo was dim, and it wasn’t clear, but Cheng Ge still easily caught those features: a fair, palm-sized face; big, bright eyes that were very clear; eyelashes as long and curled as ever; lips pressed together somewhat nervously. Very dazed, yet very obedient. That was definitely Wen Ling, but it felt different somehow.
An enlarged version of his features because the phone was too close?
Was it because he was excessively silly, making one’s heart palpitate?
That’s not right! Just sending the finished noodles would have been fine. What was going through Wen Ling’s brain to add his face?
What exactly did this guy want to do?
Did he think he was cute?
Unnecessary!
“Cheng Ge, what are you doing?” Wang Lei asked with concern.
“What do you mean what am I doing?” Cheng Ge felt baffled. What was wrong with him? Why did Wang Lei have that expression, as if he had some serious illness?
“Your face is so red.”
Cheng Ge’s expression stiffened: “!”
“You’re talking nonsense, I’m not.”
“Really, your ears too. So red.”
Cheng Ge pinched his ears several times, letting out an angry yet helpless breath: “Really not!”
“You are, it’s too red. Take your phone and look at yourself. Do you have a fever?”
Lin Hai and Zhang Fan also came over to care for him. “Really whoa, so red. Are you running a fever?”
“Do you want to go to the infirmary?”
Red, red, red, red my ass!
Cheng Ge felt he couldn’t stay in this classroom anymore. Grabbing his phone, he left a “I’m going to the toilet” and fled the classroom at high speed.
In the restroom, Cheng Ge washed his face and looked in the mirror. It was unbearable to look at. He washed it again before the redness on his face subsided slightly, making him barely presentable.
Honestly, it was his first time seeing a face like a monkey’s butt…
Cheng Ge didn’t believe in evil. He looked at the photo back and forth several times and splashed cold water on his face several more times. Once he was immune, he would completely deny his abnormal, violent reaction just now.
It was just a selfie, what was there to make a fuss about? What was so good about it?
…Cheng Ge’s finger quickly tapped save, and finally, he walked out of the restroom as if nothing had happened.
When Cheng Ge returned to class, there were three minutes left until the end. Just then, Wen Ling sent a message saying he was going to class.
Cheng Ge had to marvel at Wen Ling’s slow-paced nature. He himself had to arrive at the classroom ten minutes early, otherwise he always feared something unexpected would happen. But Wen Ling always cut it close, as if being late wouldn’t matter much.
Ever since being dragged by Cheng Ge to run along the small path that one time, Wen Ling took the small path almost every time. Sometimes he could even see the kitten Cheng Ge had played with.
Wen Ling entered the classroom. Jiji waved at him, signaling him to sit next to him. Wen Ling hesitated for a moment, then walked over.
The matter with Lin Yuchen hadn’t caused a huge stir, mainly because it was overshadowed by Wen Ling suddenly fainting from a fever. It was only counted as a minor verbal dispute. At most, he was just asked to apologize verbally, but such a hypocritical apology was simply disgusting.
Now, whenever Lin Yuchen and Wen Ling appeared at the same time, the atmosphere in the class was quite tense, although Wen Ling couldn’t sense it and didn’t care.
Wen Ling walked to the last row and sat next to Jiji. “Thank you.”
“No problem, no problem. If I don’t understand something, I can ask you.”
Wen Ling knew his expression skills were poor and he digested knowledge internally, so he probably couldn’t teach well. But Jiji had helped him, so he would help back. “I’ll try my best to teach.”
As usual, Wen Ling placed his book on the desk, took out his tablet, and started drawing.
After drawing for less than two minutes, his vision suddenly went dark. His eyes were covered by a large, slightly cool hand.
The temporary disappearance of vision brought a heightened sensitivity to other senses, such as smell. His nasal cavity was filled with a familiar scent.
He knew the person behind him was Cheng Ge; he just didn’t know why the person behind him would be Cheng Ge.
“Cheng Ge?”
“Ah,” Cheng Ge released his hand. “How did you know it was me?”
He had actually been afraid Wen Ling would give him an over-the-shoulder throw without caring who it was.
Wen Ling was actually happy and surprised, but mostly confused, so he answered with a question: “Why are you here?”
“Accompanying you to class,” Cheng Ge said as a matter of course, then asked slowly, “What’s wrong? Don’t you want me to?”
“Then I’m leaving.”
Wen Ling tried to quickly digest Cheng Ge’s words in his brain, but he got a bit stuck and distracted when he heard “Accompanying you to class.” Perhaps because of the immense surprise and shock, he didn’t hear Cheng Ge’s subsequent words clearly.
He only clearly heard “leaving.” Seeing Cheng Ge suddenly turn around, his heart immediately suspended. He quickly grabbed Cheng Ge, his tone urgent: “No!”
“I want you to!”
It just so happened there was an empty seat next to Wen Ling. Wen Ling excitedly pulled the person to the seat beside him, pressed Cheng Ge into the chair, the corners of his mouth constantly raised.
“Silly,” Cheng Ge commented.
Jiji pulled Zhao Zhishen aside to secretly gossip.
Secret commentary: Something’s up, something’s up.
Cheng Ge noticed the gazes of the two. He remembered Jiji, the one from Bed 1, and greeted him amicably: “I’m Cheng Ge.”
“Hello, I’m Jiji. He’s Zhao Zhishen. We’re both Wen Ling’s roommates.”
“Hello to you both.” Hearing Jiji’s name, Cheng Ge thought of a cartoon; it was quite interesting in reality.
After greetings were exchanged, the class bell rang. Cheng Ge sat up straight, feeling Wen Ling still looking at him. That staring gaze was truly hard to ignore.
Actually, thinking about it seriously, Wen Ling usually wouldn’t let his gaze fall on others or make eye contact. But if he was looking at someone, he simply didn’t hide it at all, not caring in the slightest if the other party discovered his gaze. Wen Ling even insisted on making the other party aware.
Like now, Cheng Ge could even read the meaning in Wen Ling’s gaze: Want to kiss, want to kiss.
For some reason, that selfie surfaced in Cheng Ge’s mind again. That photo with bad lighting, unclear, and even a worrying angle, yet Cheng Ge really couldn’t find a single fault with it.
He wondered if Wen Ling used a beauty filter. His lip color seemed darker than usual, but that was impossible; Wen Ling didn’t have a beauty camera on his phone at all.
It seemed… Wen Ling’s lip color did get darker after eating.
Actually, Wen Ling’s lip shape was very nice, and soft too. Biting them was like jelly…
Wrong!
Damn.
