Chapter 92: They Are a Little Couple
Regarding Lin Yuchen’s matter, Cheng Ge knew that Wen Ling was capable of solving those problems himself, getting his revenge silently.
But if Wen Ling were to solve this himself, he would have to face that girl, as well as the baseless malicious insults and rumors online.
Even if Wen Ling was used to not caring and felt it was fine, Cheng Ge simply didn’t want Wen Ling to have even the slightest connection to those things.
Can one be indifferent to harm just because they’re used to it? Did he truly not mind at all?
Cheng Ge didn’t know if he was doing the right thing, if it counted as overprotection, or if he was lacking boundaries. He didn’t want Wen Ling to mind, but what he wanted most right now was to prevent Wen Ling from seeing those disgusting things.
Without much thought, Wen Ling said “Sure,” and then “Okay.”
Then, the two sat quietly, arm to arm, for a while. When Cheng Ge spoke and received no response, he realized Wen Ling had already fallen asleep.
Cheng Ge tilted his head to gaze at Wen Ling’s sleeping features. After a long time, he lowered his head and lightly touched the corner of Wen Ling’s lips. After a moment of being lost in thought, he used his thumb to rub the spot he had just touched, wiping it away.
Cheng Ge carefully laid Wen Ling flat on the bed, tucked him in, then went to the bathroom to move the small stool to the bedside. He sat down, extending a hand for Wen Ling to hold, and continued handling the matters on the Campus Wall and Fox Friends.
Once Wen Ling woke up from his nap, the two went back to their original dorms to move their things.
Wen Ling’s roommates were out. Wen Ling took the key from behind the window, opened the dorm door, said a “Bye for now” to Cheng Ge, and then started busily packing.
Of course, this “busily” was something Cheng Ge inferred himself; Wen Ling was actually packing very calmly.
As soon as Cheng Ge returned to his dorm, he was immediately besieged by his three roommates with “Are you guys okay?”
Cheng Ge waved his hand and said “It’s fine” to put them at ease, then informed them of the news that he was moving out.
Cheng Ge had mentioned it to his roommates before, but they hadn’t expected him to be serious.
Lin Hai: “We all eat ‘Pin-hao-fan’ (budget meals); why do you get to stand out?”
Zhang Fan: “Wow, you’ve struck it rich?”
Wang Lei: “Do you not want us anymore? Do you have the heart? When you become wealthy, do not forget us~”
“Beat it, beat it, beat it,” Cheng Ge muttered, covered in goosebumps. “Don’t start acting all dramatic on me.”
“You’re really leaving?” Zhang Fan asked.
Cheng Ge nodded. “Yeah, I’m back to pack.”
Zhang Fan: “With Wen Ling?”
Cheng Ge: “Yes.”
Zhang Fan put both hands in his pockets. He said “Aiya,” then smiled and said, “That’s good.”
Cheng Ge also smiled. “It is.”
Wen Ling didn’t have much to bring—just some clothes and various small items. Cheng Ge had relatively more to pack, so Wen Ling finished quickly and waited for him in the dorm.
When Ji Ji and Zhao Zhishen returned, Wen Ling was sitting alone in his seat, a luggage bag by his feet.
“Wen Ling?” Ji Ji was startled. “What’s going on? Didn’t you say you were fine?”
Ji Ji and Zhao Zhishen knew a bit about Wen Ling’s situation yesterday. They had messaged him, and Wen Ling had told them he was safe, but he hadn’t mentioned moving out yet.
“Ah,” Wen Ling was dazing. He processed Ji Ji’s words before saying, “I’m moving out.”
“What? What happened? Why? Where are you moving to?”
“Nothing happened,” Wen Ling’s tone was as calm as ever, but there was a hint of a smile at the corners of his eyes. “It’s that I’m moving in with Cheng Ge.”
Ji Ji’s eyes went wide, and he didn’t understand for a moment. “Huh?”
Wen Ling added, “I’m going to live with my boyfriend.” This time, there was clear joy in his voice.
Ji Ji and Zhao Zhishen locked eyes. After a few seconds, they were also happy for Wen Ling. “Wow, really?”
Wen Ling nodded and actually smiled. “Mm, mm.”
After Cheng Ge finished packing, he left the dorm under the mixed gazes of “reluctance” and “viciousness” from his roommates, then knocked on the door of the neighboring dorm.
Wen Ling opened the door immediately, with his two roommates following behind to see him off.
He was smiling like a spring breeze.
Wen Ling and Cheng Ge said goodbye to Ji Ji and the others. Ji Ji also said bye, adding a string of blessings like “May you be together for a hundred years,” “Of one heart forever,” “Helping each other in hard times,” and “Living in perfect harmony.” His mouth was like it was smeared with honey and firing off a cannon.
The door closed, and Cheng Ge was still dazed. “Ah… ah, huh? Your roommates…”
“Ji Ji was blessing us,” Wen Ling explained seriously.
“Oh… oh, I see.” Cheng Ge didn’t understand but respected it. “He’s very eloquent.”
“Yes,” Wen Ling said.
On the way, the more Cheng Ge thought about it, the weirder it felt. “What did you tell them?”
“What do you mean, what did I tell them?”
“About you moving dorms.”
“I said I was moving in with you.”
“Huh?! No… I mean, we…” Cheng Ge paused for a long while, finally helpless. As if admitting defeat, he let out a very soft “F*ck” and lowered his head, laughing quietly.
Wen Ling thought Cheng Ge was truly miraculous. Just now, he looked like his fur was about to stand up, all fluffy; a moment later, he started laughing with such a good temper, all warm. One moment he was cute, the next he was handsome—truly miraculous.
After Cheng Ge finished laughing, he continued walking with Wen Ling. He switched the topic, asking a bit gossipily, “By the way, what’s the relationship between those two roommates of yours?”
Wen Ling’s eyes darted around. He stood on his tiptoes to lean into Cheng Ge’s ear and whispered, “They are a little couple.”
Cheng Ge started laughing again. He was laughing at Wen Ling’s use of the term “little couple” and the way Wen Ling stood on his tiptoes to whisper to him.
“Why are you being so quiet? Like a thief.”
“I’m not a thief. Ji Ji said he doesn’t want too many people to know, so I have to be quiet.”
On a big weekend, there was actually no one else on this path except for the two of them.
Cheng Ge: “So that’s how it is.”
That “is” sounded improper at first listen, carrying a heavy tone of teasing. Cheng Ge felt Wen Ling was simply too amusing.
Back at the new dorm, the two of them unpacked everything and did a bit of light cleaning before Cheng Ge started cooking.
While Cheng Ge was washing greens, Wen Ling watched from the side. Cheng Ge nudged Wen Ling’s arm with his elbow. “Shall we have egg fried rice and a plate of boiled greens?”
Wen Ling: “Okay, egg fried rice is delicious.”
“Do you know why it’s delicious?” Cheng Ge asked.
“Because Cheng Ge made it.” Wen Ling answered seriously and sincerely.
Cheng Ge couldn’t help but laugh again upon hearing Wen Ling’s answer. He nodded. “Correct.”
Wen Ling tilted his head, staring at Cheng Ge’s side profile. His eyes curved as he said, “Cheng Ge, you’re a bit different lately.”
Cheng Ge’s movements paused, then he continued washing. “How so?”
“You’ve been smiling all the time these past few days,” Wen Ling’s forehead rhythmically tapped against Cheng Ge’s shoulder. “You look so good when you smile. I like it so much.”
“Every time you smile, I feel so itchy.”
“Itchy?” Cheng Ge was confused; he wasn’t itching powder.
“In my heart. It’s like something is scratching and scratching.”
Cheng Ge roughly understood that Wen Ling meant his heart was “itchy” (restless/fluttering), but he was too embarrassed to explain the origin and meaning of it to him. He just shook his hands dry, curled his fingers, and used his knuckles to scratch Wen Ling’s chest. “Stop being itchy.”
Now, not only did Wen Ling feel even itchier, but the spot that had been touched was starting to feel a bit hot.
Cheng Ge only scratched him symbolically for a bit before withdrawing his hand and continuing to wash the greens. While washing, he said casually, “Isn’t it a good thing to smile more? It wouldn’t look good if I kept a long face; it affects the mood, right? And if you smile more, maybe things will go more smoothly.”
After washing the greens, Cheng Ge turned to the small fridge to get eggs. He continued, “Actually, you can smile more too. Now and in the future.”
Wen Ling felt Cheng Ge’s words made sense, but he also felt something was a bit strange. In the end, he let out an “Oh” and rested his chin lightly on Cheng Ge’s shoulder.
