Chapter 103
Shen Shuyu scoffed and continued walking toward the Mecha Department. “You give it up too.”
“I can’t, Young Master!” Feng Xingâs expression changed instantly to one of fawning flattery. “A program without you is like a fish without water, a bird without a tree.”
“You could ask Wen Jiafei and Shen Xili to perform a comedy routine. The effect would be the same,” Shen Shuyu suggested. “Think about it: Shen Xili, an Alpha prettier than an Omega, usually cold and cool; and look at Wen JiafeiâI don’t need to mention his face, right? Before Shen Xili came, he was the top of the department’s ten most handsome Alphas list. Although he’s usually mute as a post, if you convince them to perform comedy, theyâll win by a landslide.”
“What kind of terrible ideas are you coming up with?” Feng Xing said. “Iâve already submitted your three names.”
Shen Shuyu thought for a moment. “I can be their foil. How about I recite a menu?”
Feng Xing realized Shen Shuyu was messing with him. He cried out and wanted to say more, but someone called Shen Shuyuâs name first.
“Shuyu.”
Shen Shuyu and Feng Xing looked up. It was Yue Cheng.
Yue Cheng was wearing a white coat and holding a notebook. Shen Shuyu walked up the steps. “Brother Yue Cheng, what are you doing here?”
“Here to give physicals to the Reserve Department. Originally it was last week, but I had an urgent surgery, so it was postponed.” Yue Cheng looked at Feng Xing. Feng Xing greeted him dutifully, “Brother Yue Cheng.”
He naturally recognized Yue Cheng, though they weren’t close.
Yue Cheng nodded. Feng Xing was very perceptive. “You guys chat; I’ll head to the classroom first.”
After he left, Yue Cheng glanced at his watch. “Let’s go. Your brother gave me orders to give you a checkup too.”
Shen Shuyu said, “How about I come find you at the hospital this weekend? Class is about to start.”
“It won’t take long. Just a simple check. You know how your brother is. If you don’t go, he’ll fight me.” Yue Cheng rubbed his head. “Let’s go, Little Shuyu.”
Shen Shuyu sighed. “Fine.”
He carried his bag and followed Yue Cheng. It wasn’t far; they went to the infirmary within the Mecha Department building. Just as Shen Shuyu and Yue Cheng were about to enter, they ran into Chi Yanxun coming out.
Shen Shuyuâs eyes met Chi Yanxunâs for a few seconds before Yue Cheng stepped in front of Shen Shuyu, intentionally or unintentionally blocking their line of sight.
Shen Shuyu withdrew his gaze. Since the award ceremony last week, he and Chi Yanxun hadn’t seen each other. After all, most of their previous interactions had been initiated by Shen Shuyu. Once he stopped, they naturally wouldn’t meet.
Yue Cheng asked warmly, “All done?”
Chi Yanxun nodded. “Done. Everything is normal. Thank you, Dr. Yue.”
“Normal is good,” Yue Cheng smiled. “Hurry on back.”
Chi Yanxunâs gaze swept over Shen Shuyu behind him. He nodded. “Goodbye, Dr. Yue.”
Only after Chi Yanxun walked far away did Yue Cheng turn to look at Shen Shuyu. He had naturally heard about Shen Shuyu and Chi Yanxun from Shen Yisi. Every time Shen Yisi mentioned it, it sounded like he was about to crush his back molars. So, upon seeing Chi Yanxun, Yue Cheng reflexively blocked Shen Shuyu.
“Let’s go,” Yue Cheng said. “Finish up quickly so you can get to class.”
Shen Shuyu snapped back to reality and nodded. “Mn.”
He followed Yue Cheng inside. Curtains were drawn around several beds; it seemed several people were currently being examined. Yue Cheng led him to an empty bed. “Lie down.”
Shen Shuyu knew the drill. He lay down, and Yue Cheng gave him a serious examination. Afterward, he said, “Not bad. Everything is quite normal.”
Shen Shuyu said, “I told you I’m normal. I just got checked at your place a while ago. My brother is too dramatic.”
Yue Cheng replied, “Tell me about it. Your brother is a total bro-con demon. Did you give him a brooch?”
Shen Shuyu nodded. “Yes. How did you know, Brother Yue Cheng?”
Yue Cheng chuckled. “Your brother drove all the way to the hospital specifically to show it off to me, along with a photobook of you.”
“What? Photobook?” Shen Shuyu sat up, bewildered. “When did I shoot a photobook?”
Yue Cheng crossed his arms. “Your brother took photos of you at the award ceremony.”
Shen Shuyu really hadn’t known about that. Shen Yisi hadn’t mentioned it.
Yue Cheng said, “Alright, enough about that. Draw some blood, and you can go.”
Shen Shuyu asked, “Do I still need a blood draw?”
Yue Cheng hummed affirmation. “It’ll be quick. Don’t you trust your Brother Yue Cheng?”
“Fine.”
Shen Shuyu sat on the chair. Yue Cheng was fast; after drawing the blood, he pressed a cotton swab to the needle prick. “Done. Go to class. It’s getting late.”
Shen Shuyu nodded. “Okay. Goodbye, Brother Yue Cheng.”
“Goodbye. It’s winter now; wear more clothes.” Yue Cheng waved.
Shen Shuyu hummed and left with his coat draped over him.
The infirmary quieted down, leaving only the sound of medical staff organizing equipment. Yue Cheng stared at the door for a long time before slowly withdrawing his gaze. Fingering the vial, he pursed his lips, then took another vial from under the table. He rotated it slightly to reveal the label. It bore three simple characters.
[Shen Xili]
Yue Cheng looked at the two vials of blood. When he saw Shen Xili at the bar last time, he had thought the boy looked like Shen Yisi. It wouldn’t have meant much, but Shen Yisi suddenly wanted a DNA comparison.
Yue Cheng placed the two vials into his medical kit. Tsk, he really didn’t understand what Shen Yisi was planning.
Shen Shuyu barely made it into the classroom on time. Feng Xing waved at himâhe had almost forgotten his bag was still with Feng Xing.
He glanced at Wen Jiafei, catching Wen Jiafei looking his way. The seat next to him was empty.
Ever since they became friends, the seat next to Wen Jiafei was practically his.
Shen Shuyu raised an eyebrow and walked toward Feng Xing.
Wen Jiafei pressed his lips together and lowered his head to read his book.
A moment later, a familiar voice said, “Move inside.”
Wen Jiafei looked up. Shen Shuyu was standing beside him holding his bag. Wen Jiafei grabbed his books and shifted in, and Shen Shuyu sat down naturally, taking out his textbooks.
Wen Jiafei glanced sideways at Feng Xing, who was looking at him with resentment, as if Wen Jiafei had stolen some priceless treasure from him.
Wen Jiafei asked, “Aren’t you sitting with Feng Xing?”
“Can’t be bothered,” Shen Shuyu said. “His chattering gives me a headache.”
Actually, there was another reason. The look in Wen Jiafeiâs eyes just now reminded him of a stray dog he had met in his past life.
For a long time, he would run into it when coming home from overtime. It would look at him with those clear, pitiful eyes. Shen Shuyu would buy it a chicken leg every now and then, but eventually, it disappeared.
In that moment just now, Shen Shuyuâs heart had softened.
Though after sitting down, he couldn’t help but laugh at himself. He was bold, comparing the big villain to a stray dog. If Wen Jiafei knew what he was thinking, he’d probably cut ties with him.
Shen Shuyu thought for a moment and said, “Wen Jiafei.”
Wen Jiafei moved his gaze from his book to Shen Shuyu. Shen Shuyu asked, “You went to check your glands. What did the doctor say?”
Over the weekend, he had asked Wen Jiafei for tutoring, but Wen Jiafei said he was checking his glands. He had wanted to ask yesterday, but Shen Yisi took him out, so he forgot.
Shen Shuyu continued, “Can your glands heal?”
