Chapter 112
Only then did Shen Shuyu realize with a start that he had lost contact with the System for over a month. For this past month, no matter how he called, he couldn’t get a response. It seemed that ever since the “connection failed” notification rang in his mind that day, he had experienced no adverse reactions, nor had the System appeared.
Everything before seemed like an illusion.
Shen Shuyu pursed his lips. Feng Xing continued, “Isn’t that right? It’s only been a month or so, forty or fifty days at most.”
He glanced at Shen Shuyu’s expression and added, “But actually, it’s understandable. After all, their compatibility rate reached ninety percent, and I heard there’s a trend of it increasing. So, getting engaged sooner or later doesn’t make a difference. In this world, apart from each other, they can’t find anyone more compatible.”
Then what is Shen Xili?
Shen Shuyu pouted. “What can a compatibility rate represent?”
Feng Xing felt a headache coming on. He took a deep breath. “You really are… impervious to reason!”
The ‘impervious’ Shen Shuyu slumped back down on the desk and asked, “Will you enter the AO allocation system in the future too?”
Feng Xing didn’t know why the topic shifted so quickly, but he answered Shen Shuyu anyway. “Probably. But maybe a few years later. After graduation, I still want to focus on my career first.”
Seeing Shen Shuyu’s listless demeanor, Feng Xing looked around, then lowered his voice specifically to say, “I say, don’t be too sad. Look around you; what if there’s someone better?”
Shen Shuyu glanced at him in confusion. “What?”
Feng Xing said, “Do you really not feel anything at all?”
Feel what? Shen Shuyu looked at Feng Xing and said, “If you have something to say, say it. If you have a fart to release, release it. What riddles are you playing?”
“Sometimes, I really hate that you’re a block of wood.” Feng Xing couldn’t help shaking his head.
Shen Shuyu lost his patience. “If you don’t want to talk, then be quiet.”
Feng Xing said, “Haven’t you noticed that Shen Xili feels a bit differently about you?”
Shen Xili?
Shen Shuyu instantly understood what Feng Xing meant. He said, “What nonsense are you spouting?”
What different feelings could Shen Xili have for him?
Feng Xing must be crazy.
Feng Xing said, “Don’t think I’m talking nonsense just yet. Think back carefully. Do you really not feel anything at all?”
Due to rehearsals recently, Shen Xili and Shen Shuyu met often. After all, they had many scenes together—almost the entire play. But he hadn’t felt anything different from Shen Xili.
Shen Shuyu asked doubtfully, “Isn’t he quite normal?”
Feng Xing gave up struggling. “Fine, whatever you say. I think your love nerve only connects to Chi Yanxun.”
As a prominent figure in the academy, Shen Xili’s popularity was no less than Chi Yanxun’s. His looks appealed across all three genders. Although his family background was far inferior to Chi Yanxun’s, with his intelligence and ability, he would have no shortage of choices in the future.
So the Omegas, Betas, and some Alphas who liked him could hold hands and circle the academy entrance several times over.
Shen Shuyu scoffed, ignoring Feng Xing’s remark. He simply said, “Just say this in front of me; don’t go spreading it around.”
Feng Xing made a gesture of swearing an oath.
The two waited in the classroom for a while longer before the others arrived tardily.
Only Chi Yanxun was missing.
Feng Xing glanced at his watch and said, “Not much time left. Let’s rehearse while we wait.”
Fortunately, the role Chi Yanxun chose wasn’t difficult and didn’t have many scenes, most of which were towards the end, so it didn’t matter if he missed the beginning.
But Feng Xing really had an opinion about him now. So what if he was from the Reserve Department? A person like Chi Yanxun with no cooperative spirit, even with the backing of the Chi family—and now maybe the Su family—would definitely be squeezed out by others given half a chance.
Shen Shuyu watched Shen Xili taking off his jacket. Although he had told Feng Xing it was impossible, his mind couldn’t help but dwell on those words.
Shen Xili has different feelings for me?
If that were true, this world would be completely messed up.
Perhaps Shen Shuyu’s gaze was too intense, for Shen Xili soon noticed he was being watched. He set his jacket aside and walked toward Shen Shuyu.
Walking up to Shen Shuyu, he lowered his head and asked, “Looking for me?”
Shen Shuyu said, “Not looking for you.”
Shen Xili raised an eyebrow slightly. He simply pulled up a chair and sat next to Shen Shuyu, crossing his long legs as he watched Feng Xing give instructions to the others.
This was their first full cast run-through. The others were supporting roles who only needed to appear in specific scenes, and they didn’t have lines, so it was simple.
Shen Xili watched them like this, a slight smile on his lips. He asked, “Do you have plans this weekend?”
Shen Shuyu turned his head to look at him. “What do you want?”
“There’s a newly opened restaurant. Want to try it together?” Shen Xili extended the invitation, his gaze resting on Shen Shuyu’s face without blinking.
Shen Shuyu felt a bit uncomfortable being stared at. He turned his face slightly to the side. “No time.”
He was about to get up to leave Shen Xili’s line of sight, but unexpectedly, the other reached out and grabbed his wrist. Shen Shuyu looked down, then looked up at Shen Xili. “What?”
“Are you avoiding me?” Shen Xili was very direct.
“Why would I avoid you?” Shen Shuyu wouldn’t admit it. He pulled his hand back. “Where did you get that misunderstanding?”
“Then why won’t you eat with me?” Shen Xili didn’t mind his hand being shaken off. He tilted his head back, looking at Shen Shuyu, wanting an explanation.
“I’m busy. Is that not allowed?” Shen Shuyu asked. “Besides, why do I have to eat with you?”
Shen Xili opened his mouth. “Alright. I thought…”
He stopped mid-sentence. Shen Shuyu asked in confusion, “Thought what?”
Shen Xili shook his head. “Nothing.”
Shen Shuyu had to admit, he was easily swayed by this kind of hesitant speech. He sat back down. “If you have something to say, finish it. What’s with the hesitation?”
Shen Xili simply lifted his chin toward a direction. Shen Shuyu looked over; it was Wen Jiafei standing behind Feng Xing, leaning against the wall watching the others rehearse.
Wen Jiafei?
Shen Shuyu was even more confused. He didn’t quite understand what Shen Xili meant. He turned his head back. “Why are you looking at Wen Jiafei?”
Shen Xili said, “I thought I was like him—your friend. Seems I thought too much.”
Why does everyone love being friends with him now?
Shen Xili smiled. “Actually, no other meaning. Yesterday when I went home, I passed a newly opened hotpot restaurant and wanted to try it. I’ll just go by myself.”
Although he was smiling, one could detect the loneliness in his mood.
Damn it.
Shen Shuyu was soft-hearted but hard-mouthed. If he really had something to do this weekend, it would be fine, but he had nothing going on. Shen Yisi was still on his long business trip, so busy he only sent an occasional message, not saying when he’d be back. Shen Shuyu, afraid of disturbing him, didn’t ask.
Looking at Shen Xili’s expression, he ran his tongue over his teeth. Eating hotpot alone was indeed a bit lonely. He said, “Then call Wen Jiafei along.”
After saying this, Shen Shuyu turned and signaled Wen Jiafei to come over.
After Wen Jiafei walked over, Shen Shuyu asked, “Do you have a part-time job this weekend?”
“No need.” Wen Jiafei didn’t understand why he asked, but then he heard Shen Shuyu continue, “Alright then, Shen Xili is treating us to dinner this weekend.”
Wen Jiafei glanced at Shen Xili. Shen Xili smiled and nodded. “Yes, I happen to not be working either. Is Saturday night okay?”
Wen Jiafei thought for a moment. “Okay.”
Shen Shuyu was satisfied. “Fine, it’s settled then. Hotpot together Saturday night.”
After saying that, he realized belatedly and asked, “Why aren’t you working part-time?”
Wen Jiafei had already quit the job of cooking for and tutoring him, working part-time at the bar every week. Sometimes when Shen Shuyu needed to find him, he even had to go to the bar, though that only happened once or twice.
“Have other things to do this week,” Wen Jiafei said simply. Shen Shuyu said “Oh” and didn’t probe further.
“Wen Jiafei, come here for a sec,” Feng Xing called out again. Wen Jiafei returned to Feng Xing’s side.
Shen Shuyu flipped a page of the script, then heard Shen Xili beside him say, “Your relationship with Wen Jiafei is really quite good.”
T/n: I love this novel so much, I binge read this for a whole day and a night 💖
