Chapter 122
After the rehearsal, Feng Xing’s face was practically torn from smiling. Although he was only in charge of this one program, looking at the whole picture, first place definitely belonged to them!
Shen Shuyu was anxious to see the kitten at the pet shop, so after the rehearsal, he let Feng Xing know and left.
Tomorrow was the first day of the anniversary celebration. To give students more time to prepare, classes were suspended after the first period in the afternoon.
When Shen Shuyu walked out of the auditorium, some small stalls were already being set up outside. Tomorrow would definitely be lively. Shen Shuyu returned to the pet hospital. The kitten’s treatment was complete. The anesthesia had worn off, and it was eating cat food in a cage. Perhaps smelling Shen Shuyu’s scent, it looked up and meowed at him as soon as he approached.
The doctor said, “It’s quite smart; knew who was coming without you making a sound.”
Shen Shuyu smiled. “Yeah.”
He extended a finger to pet the kitten through the cage. The doctor gave a brief report on the kitten’s condition. The leg injury was likely accidental from its wandering days; unattended, it had festered. It had been treated, and with medication for a few days, it would be fine. Other than that, there were just some minor symptoms, nothing major. Overall, it was relatively healthy.
“So for this kitten, are you taking it home yourself? Or looking for an adopter?” the doctor asked. “If you want to adopt it out, I can help you find a suitable and reliable owner.”
The Shen family didn’t keep animals. In the original host’s memory, there was a crucial piece of information: Shen Yisi was allergic to fur. So no matter how much he liked it, he couldn’t take it home.
Shen Shuyu petted its head again. “Adop…”
He was about to say it, but then remembered someone. Shen Shuyu changed his words. “Heal it first. I’ll ask my friend if they’re willing to adopt it.”
He thought of Wen Yue.
Wen Jiafei had part-time jobs and classes, so Wen Yue would probably be bored alone at home. If she had a kitten to keep her company, her mood should improve a lot. Plus, this kitten had a docile personality; she should like it.
But he had to discuss this with Wen Jiafei first to see if they could keep a pet.
He took out his terminal, snapped a photo of the little ginger cat, and sent it directly to Wen Jiafei.
[Wen Jiafei: ?]
[Shen Shuyu: The kitten saved this afternoon. Does Auntie like small animals?]
[Wen Jiafei: Where are you?]
Shen Shuyu sent him the address.
Wen Jiafei didn’t reply. Shen Shuyu petted the kitten eating cat food again and said with a smile, “I’ll try to find you a good home.”
And he had his own little calculation. If Wen Yue was willing to adopt it, he could visit occasionally to pet the cat or something, and his friendship with Wen Jiafei could last a long time!
About a few minutes later, the pet shop door was pushed open. Hearing the ding-dong sound, Shen Shuyu turned his head and saw Wen Jiafei arriving.
Wen Jiafei walked toward him and glanced at the cat in the cage. “This is the one?”
Shen Shuyu nodded. “This is the one. Already checked. Just has some minor issues; treat it for a few days and it’ll be fine.”
Wen Jiafei bent down slightly, looking at the ginger cat in the cage. The cat was full now, its belly round, sleeping peacefully in the cage.
Shen Shuyu looked at Wen Jiafei’s profile. “My brother is allergic to cat fur, so I can’t keep it. I wanted to ask if Auntie likes small animals.”
“She likes them.” Actually, when Wen Jiafei saw the puppy at Shen Xili’s house before, he had considered buying an animal for Wen Yue so she wouldn’t be lonely when he wasn’t home.
Shen Shuyu thought for a moment. “Auntie just got discharged. Can she handle raising it?”
“She can,” Wen Jiafei said. “She’s much better now.”
Wen Yue could do simple housework and cook simple meals now. Living alone was no problem. As for her illness, as long as she survived the critical phase, recovery would be fast.
“That’s great.” Shen Shuyu smiled. “I’ll cover its cat food from now on.”
Wen Jiafei curled his lips slightly too.
The first day of the anniversary celebration was essentially an on-campus flea market, though what was sold were mostly food and handmade items.
Shen Shuyu and Feng Xing wandered around the market for a long while before finally finding a place to sit and rest.
Feng Xing asked, “Is President Shen really coming tomorrow?”
“Yeah, I told him. It’s fine if he comes with your parents too.” Shen Shuyu was holding a tanghulu (candied hawthorn stick).
The weather today was nice, sunny and bright. Walking around made him feel a bit hot.
Feng Xing asked, “What about your parents? Aren’t they coming?”
“Why would my parents come?” Shen Shuyu took a bite of the tanghulu. Sweet and sour, really delicious. He continued, “My brother said my parents are traveling around the galaxy right now. Can’t call them back just for one program. Besides, the whole performance is recorded. Sending them the video later is the same.”
But Feng Xing beside him looked at him eating the tanghulu and couldn’t help letting out an “Ah,” muttering, “But aren’t your parents back already?”
However, the volume was very low, and Shen Shuyu didn’t hear clearly. He asked doubtfully, “What did you say?”
“Nothing.” Feng Xing figured it out. Shen Shuyu’s parents probably wanted to surprise him.
He smiled and said, “Just thought it’s a pity Chairman Shen and Auntie aren’t coming since it’s a rare stage appearance.”
“Nothing bad about it.” Shen Shuyu said, “Watching the video is the same.”
Feng Xing laughed twice. Looking elsewhere, he spotted Su Mu not far away.
He let out an “Eh.” Shen Shuyu followed his gaze. Su Mu, wearing a black down jacket, was standing in front of the tanghulu stall. He looked much thinner than before.
Given Chi Yanxun’s status and position, others naturally dared not gossip about him. But Su Mu was different. Although his family had some influence, in others’ eyes, it was just average.
So ever since he broke up with Chi Yanxun, he had become the source of gossip in the academy. After all, everyone was guessing why the compatibility rate dropped so fast.
Looking at Su Mu, Feng Xing couldn’t help thinking of Shen Shuyu. He turned his head, about to say something, but Shen Shuyu made a shushing gesture. “Don’t say it. It’s annoying.”
Having his mind read, Feng Xing said, “Can’t help it, can I? Afraid you’ll fall back in.”
Feng Xing was genuinely afraid he’d fall back in. However, rehearsing together recently, Shen Shuyu had restrained himself a lot, which Feng Xing was happy to see.
Shen Shuyu chuckled twice, then asked, “Do you know why the compatibility rate dropped so fast?”
He had asked Lin Xuyi long ago, but even Lin Xuyi’s connections didn’t know why.
Feng Xing looked left and right, lowering his voice. “I heard from others too. It seems the Su family used someone else’s pheromones for the match, which is why it reached as high as ninety percent. The later one was done by Chi Yanxun and Su Mu together; there was no time to fake it, so it was exposed.”
Shen Shuyu took a bite of tanghulu. “You believe that?”
Feng Xing said, “The Su family hasn’t been doing well these past two years. Su Mu has an older brother, also an Alpha, who originally held a high position in the government. But during the investigation from above the year before last, Su Mu’s brother ran right into the muzzle and has been locked up for almost half a year. Once his brother got in trouble, some of the Su family’s businesses were investigated and mostly seized. That’s why they were so anxious to find a backer to stabilize things.”
This sounded plausible. So the question was: whose pheromones did they use?
Shen Shuyu raised his hand, warm fingertips touching his own gland, and asked, “Can you take someone else’s pheromones for this?”
“Pheromone matching is actually matching data extracted from pheromones.” Feng Xing couldn’t help saying, “Are you really studying? This is middle school content.”
Shen Shuyu retorted, “Have you ever seen me study well before?”
That’s true.
Feng Xing was left speechless.
