Chapter 14
Wen Jiafei still ended up following Shen Shuyu home. The ingredients in the refrigerator had been swapped out for a fresh batch. He took out the prepared meat and vegetables, and Shen Shuyu grabbed a fish as well. “I like this fish. Just make it the same way you did yesterday.”
He set the fish aside and leaned against the refrigerator again, watching Wen Jiafei prep the ingredients. Shen Yisi had sent people to deliver these supplies in the morning. Originally, Shen Yisi had assigned a dedicated nanny to cook for him, but Shen Shuyu refused, telling Shen Yisi he wanted to be self-reliant and learn to cook for himself.
What a joke. If a nanny were here, wouldn’t his every move be right under Shen Yisi’s thumb?
Although this older brother was great, Shen Shuyu had too many things he needed to do. If Shen Yisi knew about them, it would be somewhat inconvenient.
Shen Shuyu watched Wen Jiafei prep for a while before saying, “I’m going out for a bit. I’ll be back later.”
Wen Jiafei turned to look at him. His gaze was heavy, fixed on Shen Shuyu’s face as if he were contemplating something.
Shen Shuyu generously let him look and asked, “What are you looking at me for?”
Wen Jiafei continued to stare at him. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll poison it?”
Shen Shuyu shrugged his shoulders effortlessly. “OK, suit yourself. But I guarantee the first one to die will definitely be you.”
After speaking, he walked out of the kitchen. The moment he stepped into the living room and his back was to Wen Jiafei, his face instantly collapsed.
As expected of the villain! Even his words are so scary! Good thing he steadied himself quickly!
Shen Shuyu let out a silent breath, went into the bedroom to grab some things, and headed out.
When he returned, Wen Jiafei had already finished cooking. He was sitting on the sofa, looking down at the book he hadn’t finished reading in the classroom.
Shen Shuyu was carrying a black plastic bag in his hand. He swaggered over to the dining table and casually tossed the plastic bag onto the chair nearest to him.
Hearing the noise, Wen Jiafei looked up at him. Shen Shuyu said, “What are you sitting there for? Come over and eat.”
Wen Jiafei didn’t move. Seeing his reaction, Shen Shuyu couldn’t help raising an eyebrow lightly. “Did you really poison it?”
Wen Jiafei: …
Only then did he stand up and sit at the edge of the dining table. Shen Shuyu went to wash his hands, took two slightly larger bowls, filled one to the brim with rice for Wen Jiafei, and served himself a normal portion.
He didn’t rush to eat after sitting down. Instead, he crossed his arms and lifted his chin toward Wen Jiafei. “Eat.”
Wen Jiafei’s gaze fell on the heaping bowl of rice before him. His Adam’s apple rolled slightly as he said, “I didn’t poison it.”
“Hah, who’d believe that?” Shen Shuyu said. “If you didn’t poison it, why aren’t you moving your chopsticks? What, do you need me to feed you? Don’t push your luck.”
Wen Jiafei wanted to say something, but in the end, he said nothing. He simply picked up his chopsticks quietly and took a serving from every dish on the table.
Only after watching him eat a bit of everything did Shen Shuyu pick up his own chopsticks. “Unexpectedly, your cooking is pretty good. Aside from weekends, come cook for me every noon from Monday to Friday.”
Wen Jiafei looked at the young master of the Shen family in front of him. He suddenly said, “You’ve changed a lot recently.”
Shen Shuyu had always loathed him. He didn’t care about Shen Shuyu’s loathing; after all, the Little Young Master’s disgust was nothing compared to others. The bullying tactics he used were practically like being tickled.
If it weren’t for the lack of money, he would have long since found a way to make the Little Young Master dare not approach him.
But in the past two days, the Little Young Master had become much friendlier. In the past, Master Shen would never have deigned to eat with someone from the slums like him. After all, in his eyes, even bullying them was considered a grace from the Little Young Master.
The hand with which Shen Shuyu held his chopsticks paused slightly. Wen Jiafei had zoned out for a moment and didn’t notice.
Shen Shuyu said, “This Young Master has a good heart and won’t treat you unfairly.”
He tossed the black plastic bag he had just brought back to the other side of the table and lifted his chin at Wen Jiafei. “Take a look.”
Wen Jiafei put down his chopsticks and opened the black plastic bag. He thought it would be something to prank him, but he didn’t expect the bag to be full of interstellar currency.
Despite his composure, Wen Jiafei couldn’t help but reveal a look of astonishment. Although it only lasted a few seconds, it was enough for Shen Shuyu to catch.
After returning from the hospital last night, he had actually been thinking about how to find a suitable reason to give this money to Wen Jiafei.
He had wanted to just swipe the card in front of Wen Jiafei so the other would be grateful.
But the Little Psycho wouldn’t be grateful; he would probably be even more vigilant. After all, no one knew about his mother being in the hospital, not even the teachers at school.
If he went to pay the bill with fanfare, the Little Psycho would definitely investigate him, and maybe even try to take him out.
More importantly, it didn’t fit his character persona.
The system had said that even with a 10% free space, he still needed to maintain his persona for the sake of the future plot direction.
Although this conflicted a bit with his goal of surviving, he confidently reasoned that the plot had just begun. The two male leads had only just fought and met yesterday. If he suddenly treated Wen Jiafei too well, some future plot points indeed wouldn’t play out.
Now he could only think to treat Wen Jiafei better in areas outside the main plot, so that when the final judgment came, Wen Jiafei might spare him for the sake of old times.
Wen Jiafei asked, “What is the meaning of this?”
Shen Shuyu said, “It means employment. This money is your wage for cooking for me this month. By the way, I promised my brother I’d get good grades on the final exam this time. You’re first in the grade; arrange some tutoring for me.”
Shen Shuyu once again marveled at how fast his brain worked. He had looked up a pile of mecha knowledge online last night, only to find that knowledge was indeed knowledge—it flew right out of his brain after a single pass.
He considered his learning ability to be not bad; in his past life, he basically never fell out of the top five in his grade. But there was so much material regarding mechas, and the information on the Terminal wasn’t complete. If Wen Jiafei could be his tutor, it would simply be the most perfect arrangement.
First, the two could have more time together to cultivate some friendship, laying a foundation for future events. Second, Shen Shuyu had always been generous. The hush money he gave Wen Jiafei before was quite substantial, so as a tutor, the pay naturally wouldn’t be bad.
It was simply a win-win.
He added, “Don’t worry, the money for tutoring is calculated separately. If I get a good score on the final, I’ll give you a bonus.”
Wen Jiafei didn’t speak. Shen Shuyu ignored him and started eating after he finished speaking.
He didn’t know how much time passed before Wen Jiafei finally said, “Why me?”
Shen Shuyu spat a fish bone onto the bone plate. “Where do you get so many ‘whys’? But I have to warn you in advance, if a second person finds out about this, you will definitely die miserably.”
Wen Jiafei’s eyes were dark and obscure as he looked at Shen Shuyu. He didn’t believe Shen Shuyu would suddenly be this kind; there must be something else waiting for him.
Of course, he wasn’t afraid of Shen Shuyu causing trouble. For something that made money, even if it meant going through hell and high water, he could go and come back in one piece.
And, he indeed really needed money. He opened his mouth and said, “For the tutoring fee, I want cash.”
