Chapter 162
Wen Jiafei truly didn’t know. He hadn’t smelled any of his own scent just now. Although his glands were damaged, his sense of smell was still sharp; he could smell the pheromones of both Alphas and Omegas.
But the pheromones Shen Shuyu mentioned were indeed his.
Strange. When he went to the hospital for a checkup before, the doctor spoke very tactfully, but the meaning was clear: the damage to the glands was destructive.
Although the damaged glands wouldn’t affect other organs in his body or…
But gland damage meant no pheromones, yet Shen Shuyu said he smelled his pheromones again.
It seemed he needed to find time for another checkup.
Shen Shuyu waved his hand in front of his eyes. “What are you thinking about?”
Wen Jiafei came back to his senses and grabbed Shen Shuyu’s wrist instinctively. Shen Shuyu froze. “You… why are you grabbing my hand?”
Why did people like grabbing his hand so much today?
Wen Jiafei abruptly let go. “Sorry.”
Shen Shuyu said, “It’s fine. I just wanted to ask about your glands. I advise you to go to the hospital for a checkup or something to see what’s going on.”
Wen Jiafei hummed. “Is this what you wanted to tell me?”
Shen Shuyu nodded. “Yeah, just this.”
Wen Jiafei said “Oh.” “Understood. If there’s nothing else, I’ll go first.”
With that, he picked up his bag and stood up. Shen Shuyu let out an “Eh.” Why was Wen Jiafei acting weird today too?
He sighed heavily. He was the only one left in the classroom. He lay on the table and muttered, “What is going on with everyone today?”
Shen Shuyu remained listless until the afternoon because of Shen Xili’s confession. Wen Jiafei looked at him several times as if wanting to speak but stopping, but Shen Shuyu didn’t notice.
Until school was over, Wen Jiafei actively invited, “Walk together?”
Shen Shuyu was still thinking about Shen Xili’s matter. He shook his head. “You go first, I have something to do.”
“I’ll accompany you?” Wen Jiafei offered again.
Shen Shuyu still refused. “It’s fine, just a small matter. Besides, I have to go back to the Shen family today.”
Tomorrow was the weekend. He had received a message from Shen Yisi this afternoon telling him to go back tonight. Although he didn’t know if Shen Xili would return, there were some things he always had to face.
Wen Jiafei didn’t say anything more. He picked up his bag and walked out of the classroom. But just as he went down a few steps, he saw Shen Xili leaning against the front door. Although he knew Shen Xili had been at school, seeing him now still made him feel very uncomfortable inside.
The expression on Wen Jiafei’s face restrained a bit. He carried his bag and walked over expressionlessly. Seeing him, Shen Xili greeted him very friendly, “Good afternoon, Wen Jiafei.”
Wen Jiafei nodded, considering it a response.
Shen Xili asked, “Is Shen Shuyu still in the classroom?”
“Yes,” Wen Jiafei replied.
After speaking, he prepared to turn sideways and leave, but Shen Xili called him again. “Wen Jiafei.”
Wen Jiafei stopped again. Shen Xili’s complexion was much better than yesterday right after the bug extraction. He said, “Thanks to you for this matter.”
“You’re welcome,” Wen Jiafei said slowly. “Anything else?”
Shen Xili raised an eyebrow slightly. “No more. You go ahead; I’ll wait for Shen Shuyu.”
“You guys…” Wen Jiafei wanted to ask something, but found he seemed to have no standing or right to ask. He could only silence himself and leave without looking back.
Shen Xili watched Wen Jiafei’s retreating figure, looking thoughtful.
Shen Shuyu didn’t notice the small, silent disturbance at the door. He packed his things and was walking toward the front door with his bag when he saw Shen Xili smiling at him.
Shen Shuyu felt his body stiffening again, but there was no helping it. Walking to the back door now would be too obvious. He could only bite the bullet and walk over.
Shen Xili chuckled lightly. “Why do you look like you’re going to your death?”
Shen Shuyu let out an “Ah” and denied, “No, you’re overthinking.”
“Really?” Shen Xili bent down slightly to look at his face.
Shen Shuyu cleared his throat lightly. “The car is here to pick me up, so I’ll go first.”
“Together,” Shen Xili said.
Shen Shuyu looked at him in confusion. “Together for what?”
Shen Xili held up the terminal in his hand. On it was a message: [Xili, whether you are willing to return to the Shen family or not, I hope you can come back for a meal tonight.]
“Your brother just helped me; I can’t be ungrateful, right?” Shen Xili said with a smile. “So I told your brother I’d go to the Shen family with you today.”
There was still some distance from the academy to the Shen home. It was rush hour now, so it might take an hour to get home. Didn’t that mean the two of them had to stay in an enclosed space for at least an hour?
Shen Shuyu felt his scalp tingling just thinking about it. If it were before, he wouldn’t care, but now he was really nervous, afraid Shen Xili would suddenly ask him how his consideration was going.
Shen Shuyu hadn’t had romantic feelings since his past life. Even after transmigrating to this world, he chased Chi Yanxun in the early stages, but the problem was, he didn’t truly like Chi Yanxun.
Before Shen Xili confessed to him, he had always treated Shen Xili as a friend. Turns out, he treated him as a friend, but the guy wanted to date him.
No matter how he thought about it, it was weird!
As if reading his mind, Shen Xili looked around to confirm nothing was amiss, then said slowly, “I’m not rushing you for an answer.”
Shen Shuyu looked at him. Shen Xili’s eyes were full of affection. “I can give you time to digest your feelings for me. Now our unified goal is to go back to your house and eat a meal, okay?”
Shen Shuyu calmed down. What he was unsure about now was actually the criteria for completing this mission.
Initially, the criteria for mission completion was that all protagonists in the book walked toward their respective paths. But because of his intervention, like a butterfly gently flapping its wings, everyone’s trajectory deviated from the past.
Not only did Chi Yanxun and Shen Xili not become life partners, but their relationship also seemed very ordinary.
If the protagonist finding a partner was considered mission completion, then he would agree, and he could end it. But unfortunately, he dared not be sure.
Could it be that he agrees first, then checks how the System judges it? If the mission hasn’t ended, then he finds a reason to break up again?
Shen Shuyu glanced at Shen Xili and quickly crossed this item off in his heart. Impossible.
Not only was it irresponsible to himself, but it was also irresponsible to Shen Xili’s feelings.
It seemed the only option now was to go home for dinner first.
Shen Shuyu said, “Then let’s go. The driver is waiting for us outside.”
Shen Xili nodded. The two walked side by side toward the academy gate. The driver had been waiting for a long time. Shen Xili got into the car first. Shen Shuyu was about to get in when he paused as if feeling a gaze. He looked toward the source of the gaze but saw nothing.
Wrong feeling?
Already seated, Shen Xili asked, “What’s wrong?”
Shen Shuyu came back to his senses. “Nothing.”
Then he climbed into the car.
Wen Jiafei walked back slowly. At the entrance of the residential complex, he didn’t rush home but went to the cake shop where Wen Yue worked.
Wen Yue had been working for a few days. Everyone knew she had a handsome, smart, and filial child, and recognized Wen Jiafei.
As soon as Wen Jiafei entered, the lady boss acting as the receptionist smiled and said, “Jiafei is here.”
Wen Jiafei nodded slightly. “Good afternoon, Auntie.”
The lady boss smiled. “Your mom is still making a custom cake; it might take a while. Auntie will get you some freshly baked cookies. Sit and wait for a bit.”
Wen Jiafei was about to say no need, but the lady boss had already enthusiastically brought them out. “Come taste them, your mom baked these cookies.”
Wen Jiafei was invited to sit by the window. The lady boss said, “Just sit here peacefully and wait for your mom to come out.”
Wen Jiafei was arranged just like that.
Anyway, he had nothing to do at home now, so waiting was fine.
He looked at the cookies on the plate. For some reason, he thought of Shen Shuyu again. A few days ago, when Shen Shuyu found out Wen Yue was working at the cake shop, he kept saying he would come to support her sometime, but due to some matters, he hadn’t had the chance.
Then he could pack some cookies and give them to him tomorrow; it was the same.
Suddenly, Wen Jiafei curled his lips in self-mockery again. Shen Shuyu now didn’t lack cookies sent by others.
