Chapter 19
“Has the doctor arrived yet? Go urge him again, tell him to hurry up.”
“Yes, Young Master.”
Shen Shuyu was groggy. Hearing someone mention a doctor, he struggled to open his eyes. The scene before him shifted from blurry to clear.
He glanced to the side and saw Chi Yanxun standing sideways next to him. Shen Xili was standing with his back to him; his clothes were still soaking wet. They had just returned to the room.
“Cough—”
Once fully awake, an uncontrollable cough overtook him. Shen Shuyu propped his upper body up slightly, face down, coughing desperately until his face flushed red.
Hearing the coughing, both Shen Xili and Chi Yanxun turned around immediately to look at him.
Shen Shuyu’s head was lowered, exposing the back of his neck. His gland, having just been subjected to malicious pheromone inducement, was a darker shade of red than usual.
Chi Yanxun’s expression was a bit odd. He hadn’t expected Shen Shuyu’s pheromone control to be so strong; from the beginning until now, not a trace of his pheromones had leaked out.
Many Omegas, when lured into heat, would submit to the Alpha’s pheromones. Even if they were unwilling in their hearts, their instincts would force them to release their own pheromones to cater to the Alpha.
He was surprised that Shen Shuyu’s willpower was so formidable, and he couldn’t help but take a few more looks at him.
As Shen Shuyu hacked his lungs out, Shen Xili very considerately poured a glass of warm water and handed it to him.
Shen Shuyu’s gaze landed on the hand reaching out to him—knuckles distinct and well-defined. He paused for a moment before remembering there was still someone he hadn’t properly seen.
He took the warm water and thanked him in a hoarse voice.
Shen Xili gave a hum of acknowledgement. “You’re welcome.”
Shen Shuyu drank the warm water in the cup in one go, finally feeling a bit better. He sat up from the sofa, his eyes subconsciously searching the room for a familiar figure.
Wen Jiafei was not there.
However, there was someone else. The Alpha who had tried to use his pheromones to induce Shen Shuyu into heat in the back garden was currently squatting in the corner of the wall, head lowered, afraid to move a muscle. He looked like he had sobered up.
Just as Shen Shuyu opened his mouth to speak, Xiao 1 suddenly popped up in his mind: [Warning! Warning! Shen Yisi is on his way. Please send Shen Xili away! Please send Shen Xili away! Warning! Warning!]
The repeated warnings gave Shen Shuyu a headache. He frowned and looked at Shen Xili, realizing the other boy was still wearing the clothes he had jumped into the fountain with. They were wet and clinging to his body. Fortunately, as an Alpha, he had a strong constitution; unlike Shen Shuyu, who had long since gone limp.
Shen Shuyu took a slow, deep breath. His voice remained hoarse; the coughing fit earlier seemed to have damaged his throat a bit. He said, “You…”
He had intended to call him Shen Xili, but then remembered the original host wouldn’t be polite enough to use his full name. Honestly, even at a time like this, he still had to maintain the original host’s persona.
Shen Xili looked down at him. The sofa beneath Shen Shuyu had been soaked by the water from his body. No one had taken off his wet suit, so it clung tightly to him. His hair was also wet, but his face was clean, and his eyes were bright and glistening as he looked up. Although he looked bedraggled right now, he still looked like a little prince.
For some reason, Shen Xili felt a slight discomfort in his heart.
He asked, “What is it?”
Shen Shuyu turned his face to the other side and couldn’t help but cough a few more times. Tears welled up in his eyes again. He wanted to catch his breath before continuing, but Xiao 1 in his head started sounding the alarm again, broadcasting Shen Yisi’s location in real-time.
Shen Shuyu took a deep breath and said, “Even though you saved me, don’t think—cough cough cough—don’t think I’ll be grateful to you! You are just a vixen!”
Chi Yanxun’s face instantly darkened. He took a step forward and said, “Shen Shuyu, can your brain think about anything useful? Shen Xili was afraid you were in danger and dragged me to find you. When he saw you fall into the water, he immediately jumped in to fish you out. It’s fine if you aren’t grateful, but opening your mouth just to call him a vixen? Where is your upbringing? Is this how your brother taught you?”
Shen Shuyu’s eyes were red from coughing, making him look like he had been bullied severely.
But in this moment, he genuinely felt aggrieved. His voice was hoarse, and the petite frame of an Omega looked exceptionally pitiful in front of the Alphas after being yelled at.
He said, “He must have had ulterior motives for saving me! Brother Yanxun, we are the ones who grew up together, yet you’re yelling at me like this for an outsider.”
After speaking, tears began to spill out. He raised his hand to wipe the tears from his eyes.
Seeing him like this made Chi Yanxun furious. He said, “Shen Shuyu! I think Shen Yisi really has spoiled you rotten. Shen Xili carried you all the way back and hasn’t even gone to change his clothes yet, and you…”
Shen Xili, standing to the side, spoke up. His voice was indifferent as he said, “Captain Chi, no need to say more.”
Chi Yanxun stopped abruptly. He looked at Shen Xili, brows furrowed tight. He couldn’t stand seeing his teammate take this kind of abuse.
Although he also found Shen Xili a bit difficult to accept—always thinking he was too pretty for an Alpha—deep down, he actually thought highly of him.
After all, very few people in the team could last five moves against him, but he had fought very freely with Shen Xili that afternoon.
Shen Xili lowered his head slightly to look at Shen Shuyu, who was still covering his eyes. Without saying another word, he turned and walked out the door.
Chi Yanxun looked at Shen Xili, then at Shen Shuyu on the sofa, and finally at the Alpha in the corner.
Scratching his hair in frustration, he said, “Stop crying.”
Shen Shuyu had actually stopped crying a while ago. Covering his eyes with his arm was just to prevent them from seeing he had no tears left to shed, making himself look more pitiful.
He sighed silently in his heart. He was truly sorry to Shen Xili, but to send him away, he had no other choice.
Hearing Chi Yanxun yell at him, he couldn’t help but think: The original host followed Chi Yanxun around like a lapdog before; surely he endured plenty of rejection too. Why was he so persistent? Simping for him day after day, year after year.
Is love really this mysterious?
Just as his thoughts were racing, the door to the room was slammed open from the outside. The wooden door collided with the wall with a loud bang.
He lowered his arm and looked up. Shen Yisi walked in hurriedly, looking anxious.
Upon seeing Shen Shuyu’s wretched state, the air pressure in the room instantly dropped. The scent of cold pine wood began to spread through the air.
This was Shen Yisi’s pheromone. He was unleashing oppressive pressure indiscriminately on everyone except Shen Shuyu.
The Chi parents, having received the news, arrived a step later with the doctor. Unexpectedly, they were attacked by Shen Yisi’s pheromones and forced back into the hallway.
Chi Yanxun’s mental strength level was not weaker than Shen Yisi’s. Sensing the suppression of another Alpha’s pheromones, he also released his own.
In an instant, the scents of Pine Wood and Strong Liquor clashed violently in the air.
