Chapter 195
By the time they reached Planet Siro, it was snowing here too, but it felt warmer than Amour. This time they came by interstellar shuttle, and it only took an hour from Amour.
When they arrived, it was already night in Siro.
Shen Shuyu looked around curiously. The night life on Planet Siro was much more lively than Amour’s, quite similar to the night life he had seen in his previous life.
Father and Mother Shen’s friends had already sent someone to wait for them. Shen Shuyu followed them into the car. He hadn’t forgotten the purpose of his trip and immediately pretended to sleep as soon as he got in, then summoned the System.
The main thing was to see where Wen Jiafei and Wen Yue’s locations were.
The System complied, but its indicator light kept flashing as if it still had something to say.
As the host, Shen Shuyu naturally sensed the System’s hesitation. He said: [If you have something to say, say it quickly.]
Only then did the System speak: [Master, actually I wanted to ask, why are you so worried about Wen Jiafei? And I’ve monitored that although Wen Jiafei hasn’t contacted you, he isn’t in danger on Planet Siro. Why did you still come?]
Shen Shuyu had already become friends with Wen Jiafei, and Wen Jiafei’s relationship with the Protagonist Shou was also good. More importantly, Wen Yue had survived healthily.
The seeds of Wen Jiafei becoming a villain had been pinched out not long after Shen Shuyu transmigrated into the book, and his life wouldn’t be in danger.
Shen Shuyu should have been at ease, but now the System couldn’t quite understand. Shen Shuyu seemed very worried about Wen Jiafei.
Shen Shuyu was a bit dazed by the System’s question. Why had he still come?
It was the bag Wen Yue had left in the shop in a hurry; it was the cat food scattered all over the floor of his home.
Every detail told him that Wen Jiafei’s situation wasn’t as good as the System sensed.
But what of it?
As a friend, was he interfering a bit too much?
[Don’t friends help each other?] Shen Shuyu said: [And Wen Jiafei has helped me a lot. Without his help, I wouldn’t have gotten the Mother Insect, and Shen Xili wouldn’t have been able to completely destroy the Child Insects. And that Black Robe—if Wen Jiafei hadn’t worked with me from the inside, Shen Xili and I might have been stuck there. Now that he’s gone to Siro for no reason and can’t be reached, even if we weren’t friends, I would still have to come and check out of reason and logic.]
The System’s indicator light flashed twice, seemingly processing Shen Shuyu’s words.
Shen Shuyu continued: [I know you are advanced AIs with the most comprehensive calculation systems, but human emotions are complex and hard to truly calculate. Just like you asking me why—to be honest, it was just what I felt, so I came.]
The System finally replied: [Humans truly are complex. If I were human too, perhaps I would understand what you mean.]
Shen Shuyu said: [Being human is also very tiring.]
The System replied: [But it’s also interesting, isn’t it?]
After replying, the System went quiet and offline.
Shen Shuyu opened his eyes and looked at the scenery outside the car window. The lights were beginning to shine, and it was bustling with activity. Being human was indeed quite interesting.
The driver dutifully took them to their destination. Father and Mother Shen’s friends were waiting for them early on. Shen Shuyu followed behind them, playing the role of a polite, smiling boy for a while before finally being able to go to his hotel room.
His room had a great view. Standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, he could see most of Planet Siro’s scenery.
Shen Shuyu admired it for a while, checked the watch on his wrist, and saw that it was still early. He felt energetic and planned to wander around the vicinity.
He stepped out of the door. Father and Mother Shen’s room was right next to his. He knocked and told them, then left wearing a scarf and a hat.
Shen Shuyu didn’t go far. He had heard from his parents’ friend that where they were staying was basically the center of Planet Siro, very prosperous, and you wouldn’t necessarily finish exploring even in three days.
After walking for a while, Shen Shuyu felt a bit hot, so he took off his scarf and wrapped it around his arm. He looked around and saw a small stall selling sugar-roasted chestnuts on the roadside. He walked over and said, “A bag of chestnuts, please.”
“Certainly.” The boss packed a bag of freshly roasted chestnuts for Shen Shuyu. “Careful, they’re hot.”
Shen Shuyu paid and said thank you. He was about to leave with the chestnuts when he heard a familiar voice.
“Shuyu?”
Shen Shuyu whipped his head around. Wen Yue was standing beside him. Next to her stood a man wearing a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, who seemed to be sizing him up.
But Shen Shuyu didn’t have time to size him back. He took a few steps and reached Wen Yue. “Auntie.”
He was about to say something when Wen Yue suddenly gave him a quick look. Shen Shuyu understood and smiled. “I really didn’t expect to run into you here.”
Wen Yue took his hand. “Is everything okay at home? I haven’t seen you in a long time.”
“Everything is fine,” Shen Shuyu said. “I’ve been on a trip with my parents recently. We just arrived here, and I didn’t expect to run into you.”
A hint of a smile appeared on Wen Yue’s face, but she quickly suppressed it. She turned to the person beside her. “Shuyu can walk me back to the hotel. You can go.”
The man hesitated for a moment but soon said, “Alright. I’ll have someone follow behind to protect you.”
“No need.” Wen Yue frowned. “Take your people and leave. Don’t come looking for me anymore.”
The man pursed his lips and didn’t speak, but Wen Yue had already pulled Shen Shuyu and continued walking forward.
Shen Shuyu looked back. The man was still standing there, his gaze following Wen Yue.
He asked, “Auntie, who is he?”
“His name is Ning Shan; he is Jiafei’s uncle.” Wen Yue seemed unwilling to mention him and instead asked, “Shuyu, why are you here?”
Shen Shuyu replied, “My parents’ friends invited us to come for the hot springs. We are staying in the hotel right across the street. They are resting, so I came down for some air and happened to run into you.”
Wen Yue lowered her eyes. “So that’s how it is.”
Shen Shuyu said, “But Auntie, I’ve been trying to contact you and Wen Jiafei. Why couldn’t I get through? I even went to your house yesterday.”
Wen Yue asked, “Then did you go in?”
“I did. The auntie at the bakery gave me your bag with the keys inside,” Shen Shuyu said. “I’ve also arranged for Meimei to be at the pet boarding shop near my home and asked Yue Cheng-ge to check in when he’s free.” After all, his brother was allergic, otherwise he wouldn’t have troubled Yue Cheng.
Wen Yue nodded. She had been in too much of a hurry when she left, so she’d just quickly opened a bag of cat food and put out extra litter boxes. She thought she’d be back in a day or two, but today was already the third day.
She hadn’t thought about leaving the keys behind, but at that time, for some reason, she had a very strong feeling that Shen Shuyu might come. Based on that intuition, she hadn’t expected Shen Shuyu to actually go.
“I’ve really troubled you.” Wen Yue seemed listless. “Is Meimei okay?”
“Full of life, don’t worry. There are professionals looking after her.” Shen Shuyu handed the chestnuts to Wen Yue. “Auntie, try some.”
Wen Yue shook her head, and Shen Shuyu didn’t insist, taking the chestnuts back.
He asked, “So Auntie, why couldn’t I get in touch with you and Wen Jiafei before? When I went to find Wen Jiafei, his colleague at the bar also said he had taken leave.”
As soon as Shen Shuyu asked, he saw Wen Yue’s tears fall instantly.
He let out a couple of sighs and hurriedly took out a tissue from his pocket to wipe Wen Yue’s tears. “Auntie, don’t cry. Did something happen?”
Wen Yue tightly grasped Shen Shuyu’s hand. She slightly raised her head to look at Shen Shuyu beside her and said, “Shuyu, in these twenty years, Jiafei has only had one true friend like you. Can Auntie ask you to help him?”
Shen Shuyu was stunned for a moment. After wiping Wen Yue’s tears, he said, “Auntie, let’s find a place to sit and talk.”
Wen Yue nodded and quickly adjusted her emotions. “Let’s go. My hotel is just ahead. Let’s talk inside.”
Shen Shuyu nodded and followed Wen Yue back to the hotel.
This hotel was much smaller. Wen Yue poured a cup of hot water for Shen Shuyu and said, “The heating here is a bit poor; please bear with it.”
In a place as expensive as Planet Siro, even this hotel had cost Wen Yue nearly a month’s salary. Adding the travel expenses, she was now short on funds and couldn’t afford anything better.
But there was no choice; this was the place closest to Wen Jiafei.
“It’s fine, Auntie. You sit. Tell me first, what’s going on?” Shen Shuyu held the water cup with both hands, the hot water warming his hands through the cup.
Wen Yue sighed and asked, “Has Jiafei told you about our family?”
Shen Shuyu shook his head. “He only said his gland was damaged by his father; he didn’t say anything else.”
Wen Yue sighed heavily again, covering her face with one hand, her voice a bit choked up. “It’s my fault as a mother for not being able to protect him.”
