Chapter 3
Shen Shuyu had wanted to rush in directly, but the system said that if he ran in to save Wen Jiafei immediately, it would be a severe “OOC” (Out of Character) behavior. Although the plot hadn’t officially started, to ensure the smooth progression of the storyline, he could engage in some avoidance behaviors regarding the Protagonist Team outside the main plot, but he absolutely couldn’t go too far. Touching the boundary of breaking character could very likely directly affect the future development of the story.
The best method was to be a bystander, coldly watching Wen Jiafei being humiliated.
However, leaving aside the plot, Shen Shuyu, who had grown up essentially eating “hundred-family meals” (community support), simply couldn’t stand by and watch.
Wen Jiafei was the person who would kill him—no, kill the original host—later. If he didn’t intervene, the one who died in the end would still be him. The system had said at the very beginning that if he successfully completed the mission, he could live on in this world with this identity.
A 90% completion rate meant the remaining 10% was for him to intervene. Otherwise, if he just followed the plot development, he would still kick the bucket in the end, so this mission would have no benefit for him at all.
Shen Shuyu thought it through very clearly. After reasoning with the system, the system reluctantly agreed that he could step in to save Wen Jiafei, with the prerequisite that he could not reveal his face in front of others.
After all, for an Omega to single-handedly fight so many people—anyone who saw it would be completely confused!
Yellow Hair spat. He crossed his arms, first looking down at Wen Jiafei lying on the ground, then shifting his gaze to the person in front of him. He said, “Didn’t expect this kid to have a helper.”
Shen Shuyu wore a mask and hat, revealing only a pair of eyes. He said, “Don’t misunderstand, I just can’t stand your methods, that’s all.”
Yellow Hair scoffed coldly and raised his hand to signal an attack. The thugs beside him immediately surrounded Shen Shuyu.
Wen Jiafei lay on the ground, seemingly wanting to struggle up, but he truly had no strength left. He could only watch helplessly as they rushed forward.
But in the next second, he watched that slender man dodge the attacks. The stick hit every person who tried to harm him fast, accurately, and ruthlessly.
Looking at his movement, he was evidently a trained fighter.
These thugs just relied on numbers; gang-beating one person was easy for them, but running into a trained fighter, they really couldn’t cope.
Moreover, the man looked thin, but his strength was great. One hit from the stick made them feel like their bones were cracking.
Shen Shuyu didn’t dare relax at all, but once he made his move, he felt much more assured. When the system said he was the same as before, he hadn’t believed it, but now it seemed to be true.
These thugs were a group of Betas. They looked tough, but in reality, they couldn’t take a beating at all. Just as he was starting to get a feel for it, they were all lying on the ground wailing in pain.
Shen Shuyu panted slightly as he looked at the other person still standing: Yellow Hair.
Yellow Hair was already scared silly. Seeing Shen Shuyu looking at him, he couldn’t help but stammer, “Big… Big Brother, if you had said earlier that this kid was your man, I-I wouldn’t have troubled him.”
Shen Shuyu stepped over the people wailing on the ground and walked step by step up to Yellow Hair. Yellow Hair raised his trembling hands: “Big Brother, I really didn’t know he was your brother. Just let us go this time.”
Shen Shuyu looked at him coldly, his lips parting slightly under the mask: “Scram.”
Yellow Hair let out a servile “Aye!” He slowly shuffled sideways, and once he was a bit further away, his raised hand quietly moved toward the back of his neck.
Shen Shuyu noticed his movement, turned his head, and chuckled lightly. He asked, “Do you think the pheromones you release can overpower me?”
Yellow Hair’s body stiffened. Pheromones between Alphas were repulsive to each other. Some Alphas, in order to suppress opponents, would intentionally or unintentionally release their own pheromones—though rather than pheromones, it was more like “mental strength.”
Yellow Hair was just an ordinary Alpha, but the opponent might not be. Although he looked thin, his strikes were ruthless and his speed was fast; his mental strength was at least an S.
He was very pragmatic. Once he understood this, he immediately lowered his hand and said fawningly, “You misunderstood, you misunderstood. We’ll scram right now, right now.”
Yellow Hair shot a glance at the thugs lying on the ground. Several of them scrambled up and left in a hurry.
Shen Shuyu stared at them until they walked far away, confirming they wouldn’t come back before breathing a sigh of relief.
Fortunately, he bluffed them. If he had really removed the inhibitor patch on his neck, who knows what would have happened.
Shen Shuyu tossed the stick aside. Just as he was about to turn around, a sharp object was pressed against the inhibitor patch on his rear glands. Wen Jiafei had climbed up at some point, holding the very shard of glass Yellow Hair had used to cut his face.
His other hand tightly gripped Shen Shuyu’s shoulder. “Who are you?”
Wen Jiafei’s voice was hoarse, perhaps weak from the prolonged beating.
Shen Shuyu raised both hands in a surrender gesture, but he wasn’t afraid. He retorted, “Who do you think?”
His voice came through the mask, muffled and not quite real.
Wen Jiafei only felt it was very familiar, but his brain was muddled. Yellow Hair had injected him with drugs at the start, and the effects were kicking in now; he was only holding on by sheer will.
Holding the glass against this person’s glands took almost all his strength. He couldn’t hold on much longer.
Wen Jiafei’s vision went black. The hand gripping the glass shard loosened, and his whole body uncontrollably collapsed toward the person in front of him.
Shen Shuyu’s tone sounded relaxed, but he couldn’t help feeling nervous inside, his brain spinning at high speed to find a logical reason for saving Wen Jiafei that the other would believe.
However, before he could come up with one, Shen Shuyu heard the crisp sound of glass hitting the ground, and the hand that had been tightly restraining his shoulder loosened.
Shen Shuyu moved his shoulder and turned around to say something, but Wen Jiafei fell straight onto him.
“Ah… hey?” Shen Shuyu subconsciously caught him so the two of them wouldn’t end up sitting on the ground.
Wen Jiafei rested his head on Shen Shuyu’s shoulder, his cheek pressing against Shen Shuyu’s neck. An unnatural heat radiated from him, as if trying to melt that patch of Shen Shuyu’s skin.
Shen Shuyu gave him a shake. Wen Jiafei had already passed out.
“Unbelievable,” Shen Shuyu whispered helplessly.
He moved Wen Jiafei to the wall, turned around, squatted slightly, and piggybacked him up.
He thought he might not be able to carry Wen Jiafei, but once he actually lifted him, he was much lighter than imagined.
Shen Shuyu carried Wen Jiafei step by step out of the alley entrance. His luck was good; just as he reached the roadside, a car sped by.
Shen Shuyu exerted a lot of effort to stuff him into the car, then sat in the front seat himself, saying, “Nearest hospital, thanks.”
The driver looked at them through the rearview mirror, stepped on the gas, and drove quickly toward the hospital.
The hospital was indeed not far. Shen Shuyu paid the driver and asked him to help get Wen Jiafei out of the car. After carrying him on his back again, he hurriedly walked into the hospital.
He had only taken two steps when he heard the driver behind him mutter softly, “Are AOs this wild nowadays? Knocking people out like that.”
Shen Shuyu stumbled, freeing a hand to pull his hat down lower, hiding his face even deeper. He couldn’t help muttering in his heart: Good thing the big crazy villain isn’t awake.
If he heard that, Shen Shuyu would probably die even more miserably!
