Chapter 5
Shen Yisi didn’t receive a response from Shen Shuyu. He turned his head to look at him, noting his slightly dazed expression, and smiled gently. “I was just asking casually. If Xiao Yu doesn’t want to say, then you don’t have to.”
Shen Shuyu snapped back to reality and swallowed the cake in his mouth. “How did you know, Brother?”
Shen Yisi explained, “You were using my supplementary card. The transaction records were sent to me. I thought something had happened to you, so I called the hospital to check.”
Shen Shuyu blinked twice. So that’s it. He replied, “I saw him lying by the roadside while I was out having fun. out of the goodness of my heart, I sent him to the hospital.”
The hand Shen Yisi was using to squeeze the cream paused imperceptibly before returning to normal. He said, “Xiao Yu, kindness is a good thing, but as an Omega, you should still keep your distance from Alphas. Do you understand?”
Shen Shuyu asked in return, “Brother is also an Alpha. Should I keep my distance from you too?”
Shen Yisi set the cream aside and looked at Shen Shuyu again, saying helplessly, “That is different.”
Shen Shuyu grabbed another piece of cake from the plate and grinned playfully. “I’m just joking. Don’t worry, Brother, I know my limits. I couldn’t just leave someone lying on the ground forever, right? I’m going upstairs to take a shower.”
After speaking, he took the cake, turned around, and walked out. Shen Yisi watched his retreating figure until Shen Shuyu suddenly turned back around. “The cake is delicious, but I still prefer meat. Thanks, Brother.”
This time, he really left.
Shen Yisi watched him go up the stairs until he was completely out of sight. Only then did he let out a soft chuckle. He picked up the piping bag again, but then, remembering something, he unlocked the phone he had set aside and dialed a number.
The phone rang for three seconds before it was answered. “President Shen.”
Gone was the gentleness he showed Shen Shuyu. Shen Yisi’s voice was deep and grave. “That Alpha my brother sent over—keep an eye on him.”
Since his younger brother wanted to perform this act of kindness, as the older brother, he naturally had to ensure the loose ends were tied up properly.
When Wen Jiafei woke up, night had already fallen.
He looked at the pristine white ceiling, feeling a bit disoriented.
Where is this?
Wen Jiafei only remembered being cornered in that rarely traversed alley behind the bar by the hooligans who had always found him an eyesore. And then—
He looked down, his gaze falling on his forearm. They had injected him with something.
At the thought of this, a trace of gloom flashed through Wen Jiafei’s eyes. If he had known, he wouldn’t have held back last time.
“Oh, you’re awake.” A nurse walked in holding a medical chart. “How is your body feeling?”
Wen Jiafei looked up again. The gloom in his eyes vanished, leaving only calm.
He asked, “Why am I in the hospital?”
And it was a VIP ward, no less. He didn’t have any spare money to pay for medical expenses.
The nurse measured his temperature and replied, “Don’t you remember?”
He truly didn’t remember much. He only recalled that someone had saved him. But because he had been injected with drugs, he was barely holding on by a thread at that time.
Wen Jiafei asked, “Where is the person who sent me here?”
The nurse said, “He left a long time ago. Your condition has stabilized in all aspects, so you can leave as well.”
Left?
Before Wen Jiafei could process this, the nurse added, “By the way, he paid a large sum in advance at the payment counter. He said any excess should be refunded to you. Remember to go to the counter to collect the remaining money when you leave.”
Wen Jiafei pursed his lips slightly. Could it be… it really was just a Good Samaritan?
Seeing him lower his head and stay silent, the nurse asked, “Did you hear me?”
Wen Jiafei lifted his head again. He looked at the nurse and gave a gentle smile. “Thank you, I understand.”
The nurse was a Beta. She stared at Wen Jiafei’s face, stunned for a moment. Her voice softened as she nodded, speaking somewhat shyly, “Then be careful on your way back!”
Wen Jiafei nodded with a smile. “Thank you.”
He got out of bed and followed the nurse’s instructions to the payment counter to collect the refund. He thought it would be a few hundred at most, but he didn’t expect it to be several thousand.
Wen Jiafei signed the paperwork. After a thought, he asked, “Hello, may I ask if you remember what the person looked like when they paid?”
The staff at the counter said, “He was wearing a mask and a hat, so I didn’t see his face clearly. But his eyes were very good-looking.”
That was as good as saying nothing.
Wen Jiafei expressed his thanks.
He put away the money and walked slowly toward the elevator. After being injected with those drugs, his senses and reactions had become dull, but his intuition told him that the person who saved him was someone he knew.
But… who could it be?
He couldn’t guess.
