Chapter 73
He remembered Wen Jiafei went to see his mother almost every other day. And since his mother had been getting better recently, he wondered how she was doing after not seeing him for so long.
Shen Shuyu pursed his lips. Since he had nothing to do today anyway, he might as well go out and take a look.
“Little Young Master, breakfast is ready.”
Shen Shuyu snapped back to reality, casually put the optical computer into his pocket, and walked to the dining table. He finished his breakfast in a few bites and wiped his mouth. “No need to make lunch for me. I’m going to Brother Yue’s place for a checkup.”
The Beta Auntie replied “Okay” and went back to work.
Shen Shuyu changed into casual clothes. When he went downstairs, the driver was already waiting outside. He got into the car; without needing to speak, the driver knew where the destination was.
So nice.
Shen Shuyu silently lamented in his heart. After living like a savage for a few days, suddenly entering the big city felt amazing!
When Shen Shuyu arrived at the hospital, Yue Cheng was already waiting for him early. By the time all the checkups were done, it was already three in the afternoon.
Shen Shuyu followed behind Yue Cheng. Passing by Wen Jiafei’s mother’s ward, he stopped and said, “Brother Yue, who stays in here? I remember seeing her the last two times I came.”
Yue Cheng looked inside through the glass window on the door and said, “Wen Yue (Wen Yue). She’s lived here for quite a few years. Her condition has actually gradually improved a lot recently; she occasionally has moments of clarity.”
As if thinking of something, Yue Cheng said, “You know her son too.”
“I know him too?” Shen Shuyu feigned surprise. “Who?”
“Wen Jiafei,” Yue Cheng replied.
Shen Shuyu’s expression became even more exaggerated. “It’s actually Wen Jiafei?”
“Yeah. That kid is quite capable. I heard from your brother that you’re getting him to tutor you?” Yue Cheng looked at Shen Shuyu.
Shen Shuyu nodded. “Yeah. I told my brother that to be the best Mecha Master in the future, I naturally have to pick up my previous studies. Besides, he teaches quite well. I feel like he’s easier to understand than some teachers.”
Yue Cheng nodded. “He is indeed very smart. I remember my teacher saying he’d never seen anyone so hardworking. If his gland wasn’t damaged, he would definitely be a big shot in the future.”
Able to bend and stretch, able to endure and be tough.
“Can’t his damaged gland be repaired?” Shen Shuyu asked. “Otherwise, it’s really quite a pity.”
“Don’t know about that.” Yue Cheng said, “He hasn’t done a pheromone test, so we don’t know if he can be repaired.”
“Isn’t there secondary differentiation?” Shen Shuyu had started listening seriously in class and naturally learned some knowledge, for example, secondary differentiation.
“Secondary differentiation isn’t something that happens just because you want it to. Everyone differentiates into the three genders of Alpha, Omega, and Beta during adolescence, and basically, that’s set for life.”
“Then under what circumstances does secondary differentiation happen?” Shen Shuyu asked.
Yue Cheng thought for a moment. “Take your brother for example. His first differentiation was an S-class Alpha, but because his spiritual power was exceedingly high, he differentiated into an SS-class Alpha at the age of twenty.”
“Oh~” Shen Shuyu seemed to understand but not fully. “Is the condition for differentiation spiritual power?”
Yue Cheng nodded. “There are many conditions for differentiation, but the main one is spiritual power. However, his gland is damaged, so it’s hard to say if that will have an influence. I originally wanted to ask him to do a checkup, but generally, that kind of checkup is very expensive, so I let it go.”
Shen Shuyu looked at Wen Yue lying quietly in the ward again. She did look much better than before.
He asked, “Will Wen Yue get better?”
Yue Cheng shrugged lightly. “She will, but there will be many sequelae. Still, managing to save her life is already quite good.”
That was indeed true. Being alive was more important than anything.
Shen Shuyu took a breath and left with Yue Cheng.
Coming out of the inpatient department, Shen Shuyu realized it had started to drizzle outside. He hadn’t called the driver to come over yet. Not knowing why, he simply sat down on a bench provided for rest at the entrance.
The rain fell sparsely. He took a deep breath of the air mixed with the scent of rain. Within the survival battle, they had also encountered rainy days. At that time, they were traversing a boundless grassland with no place for shelter, so they had marched on in the rain.
Now that he was out, recalling these things, he couldn’t help but feel somewhat emotional.
Wonder how their PK is going.
Shen Shuyu took out his optical computer and clicked on the PK stage. The person up there had now changed to Shen Xili. Wen Jiafei and Ye Yang were nowhere to be seen; presumably, both had been eliminated.
“Progress is quite fast,” Shen Shuyu muttered. It was estimated that by tomorrow morning at the latest, the survival battle would be completely over. He remembered the organizer’s arrangement: after it ended, all students would rest for a day, and the results would be announced the following day.
The organizer provided rest dormitories for the contestants. Eliminated students were staying there, waiting for the final results before leaving.
Amor naturally had dorms too, but since his home wasn’t far from the dorms, he hadn’t gone to stay there.
However, Lin Xuyi and the others should be inside the dorms.
Shen Shuyu thought for a moment. He opened the messaging terminal and found Shen Yisi’s contact. Just as he was preparing to send a message, he sensed someone standing in front of him.
Shen Shuyu looked up. Standing before him was none other than Wen Jiafei, fresh from the PK stage.
Wen Jiafei was still wearing the clothes from the survival battle. His hair was wet from the drizzle, and his clothes were mostly soaked, making him look rather pitiful. He stood quietly in front of Shen Shuyu, looking down at him with slightly lowered eyes.
Shen Shuyu was surprised. “Why are you…?”
Shen Shuyu hadn’t expected to see Wen Jiafei at this time. He hadn’t even turned off the live broadcast on the optical computer in his hand; the sound from inside was still playing out loud.
Wen Jiafei glanced at the optical computer in his hand, his voice slightly hoarse. “Came to see my mother.”
Shen Shuyu said “Ah.” He added, “Right.”
Wen Jiafei’s gaze instantly became sharp. “What are you doing here?”
Shen Shuyu realized belatedly and turned off his optical computer. Since looking up to speak was tiring, he simply stood up. “I came for a physical checkup. My brother’s friend works here. Passing by a ward just now, he told me the Omega named Wen Yue living inside is your mother.”
Shen Shuyu said, “I didn’t expect it to be such a coincidence either. If you had said Auntie was here earlier, I would have spoken to Brother Yue and asked him to look after Auntie more.”
“No need.” Wen Jiafei moved his gaze away from him. Having just experienced an intense and time-consuming PK, his whole body hadn’t recovered yet. Added to the light rain, his entire face was pale, looking as if he might collapse at any moment.
He hadn’t sorted out the clues about Shen Shuyu yet, and there were some indescribable emotions in his heart.
Shen Shuyu pouted. “If not, then not.”
Wen Jiafei walked past him toward the inside. Shen Shuyu thought for a moment. Since they bumped into each other, he might as well go in and take a look together; maybe it could ease their relationship.
He didn’t know his plot completion rate for this survival battle, but the only thing that comforted him was that his relationship with Wen Jiafei had improved quite a bit.
He and Wen Jiafei could definitely become good friends!
Shen Shuyu followed. Wen Jiafei glanced at him, so Shen Shuyu said, “I suddenly remembered I have something else to ask Brother Yue. I’m going up again.”
The excuse was clumsy but reasonable. Wen Jiafei indeed said nothing more.
The two arrived at the eighth floor together. It was a coincidence; they happened to run into Dr. An doing rounds.
They stood at the door looking inside through the glass window. Shen Shuyu glanced at him sideways and asked quickly, “Do you work so many part-time jobs every day just to treat Auntie’s illness?”
Wen Jiafei gave a low “En.”
Shen Shuyu said “Oh.” After thinking for who knows how long, he asked secretly again, “You told me in the survival battle that your gland was ruined by your father. Then Auntie…?”
“Shen Shuyu.” A trace of impatience surfaced on Wen Jiafei’s face. “Aren’t you going to find your Brother Yue?”
“If you don’t want to say it, don’t say it. Why so fierce?” Shen Shuyu muttered. “Aren’t we peacefully coexisting good friends now?”
Wen Jiafei ignored him.
Great, turned into a mute gourd again.
Soon, Dr. An finished the checkup and came out. Before going to the survival battle, Wen Jiafei had spoken to Dr. An, asking him to help look after his mother more. Dr. An had always thought highly of Wen Jiafei, so naturally, he had agreed.
Seeing Wen Jiafei this time, he was somewhat surprised. “You’re back.”
“Dr. An.” Wen Jiafei’s attitude softened a lot this time.
Dr. An looked at Shen Shuyu again and blinked. “Is this your friend? Why does he look somewhat familiar? Have we met before?”
Wen Jiafei paused, then looked straight at Shen Shuyu.
