Chapter 89
The two returned to sit outside the operating room. Shen Shuyu looked up at the lit surgery sign and asked, “How long has Auntie been in there?”
“Almost two hours,” Wen Jiafei replied.
Shen Shuyu said “Oh.” He patted Wen Jiafei’s shoulder. “Don’t worry, Auntie will definitely be fine.”
Wen Jiafei just turned his head to look at him. The injuries on Shen Shuyu’s face had faded considerably. He asked, “Is the injury better?”
Shen Shuyu said “Ah,” surprised that Wen Jiafei would care about him. He said, “I used the ointment Shen Xili gave me on my face; it’s almost healed. Shoulders and body are almost better too.”
Wen Jiafei nodded and stopped talking again.
Shen Shuyu was used to Wen Jiafei’s mute-gourd nature. Besides, in this situation, it wasn’t appropriate for them to chatter about nonsense.
Imitating Wen Jiafei, Shen Shuyu leaned his back and head against the wall, gazing at the operating room door, wondering how much longer it would take.
However, Wen Yue would be fine this time. After all, even if something happened, it would have to wait until the later stages of the story.
For the first time, Shen Shuyu felt that knowing the plot in advance was quite good; otherwise, he would probably be feeling terrible right now too.
“When the bonus comes down, I’ll pay you back.”
Beside him, Wen Jiafei suddenly spoke.
Shen Shuyu turned his head slightly to glance at him, then withdrew his gaze. “No need. I promised you anywayāyou protected me well in the survival battle, so my share of the bonus goes to you. Consider this me cashing it out for you in advance.”
Fortunately, the pocket money the Shen family gave him had always been substantial; he could afford to help pay for medical expenses.
Shen Shuyu recalled how Wen Jiafei was walking out earlier. He turned his head sideways again, meeting Wen Jiafei’s eyes. He asked, “I saw you were heading out just now. Where were you planning to go?”
Wen Jiafei pursed his lips. “To earn money.”
“Where were you going to earn money late at night…” Shen Shuyu’s voice cut off abruptly. His eyes widened in disbelief as he said, “You’re so young, you… you don’t need to degrade yourself like that, right?”
“What are you thinking?” Wen Jiafei instantly understood Shen Shuyu’s meaning. He looked speechless, but the ears hidden behind his slightly long hair quietly turned red.
Shen Shuyu laughed “Haha” twice, looking firmly convinced of his own idea. After all, there were indeed many wealthy older Omegas who fancied Wen Jiafei’s looks.
Wen Jiafei said, “There’s a boxing ring. Fighting there for a night can earn some money.”
He put it euphemistically, but Shen Shuyu understood. So it was underground boxing.
He had really forgotten about this.
Last time, he had wanted to go see the place where he fought underground boxing, but due to other reasons, he didn’t manage to see it. The next day, Wen Jiafei was limping and injured quite badly.
Good thing he came in time.
Shen Shuyu sighed silently in his heart, but didn’t show it on his face. He asked pretentiously, “Is it legit? They even accept students.”
Wen Jiafei glanced at him. “If it were legit, I couldn’t make money.”
Shen Shuyu said “Oh.” That was true.
The two fell silent again. At this time, everyone was resting in the wards, and the corridor was quiet and empty.
Wen Jiafei had seen scenes like this too many times over the years, but this time, he didn’t feel lonely.
He looked at Shen Shuyu again. This time, there was someone accompanying him.
Wen Jiafei pursed his thin lips. He looked for an unknown amount of timeālong enough for Shen Shuyu to notice. Shen Shuyu originally didn’t want to make a sound, but Wen Jiafei kept staring at him straight on; the gaze was really hard to ignore.
He took a deep breath, turned his head, and asked, “Why are you looking at me?”
“I just didn’t expect you would come.”
Staring for so long just for this?
Shen Shuyu felt helpless. He said, “Isn’t it normal for me to come?”
Wen Jiafei said, “Why?”
Why save him in the alley, only to leave without saying anything in the end?
Why come over in the rain just because of one message?
Clearly, in the past, he hated him, only bullied him, and was arrogant and domineering.
Shen Shuyu said, “Didn’t we say before that we are friends?”
Friends.
He had heard it from Shen Shuyu many times, but only this time did he truly listen.
Shen Shuyu glanced at him out of the corner of his eye. “I know I was quite a jerk in the past. But after I got sick that time, I realized my family cares about me a lot. My brother didn’t go to the company for days just to watch over meāyou know him, busy as hell. My dad, although he says I’m rebellious, dropped a heap of matters and crossed several planets to come back and see me when he knew I was sick. My mom has a delicate nature, so we didn’t tell her for a while, but she found out recently and her eyes were swollen from crying when she video-called me.”
He rambled on. Initially, he just wanted to find a reason for his change for the better, but as he spoke, his tone softened.
The Shen family was truly good. They infinitely tolerated Shen Shuyu.
Although Shen Shuyu’s core was no longer there, if he could become better and make them happier, he was very willing.
Shen Shuyu said, “I don’t want to make them worry all the time either.”
Wen Jiafei didn’t know what he was thinking and didn’t respond.
Shen Shuyu didn’t care about his answer. He yawned, crossed his arms, and simply leaned against the wall, closing his eyes for a nap.
Enough things had happened today; he was tired.
Wen Jiafei was immersed in his own world. When he snapped back and looked at the person beside him, he found Shen Shuyu’s head nodding, slowly drooping lower and lower.
His gaze fell on his face again. Except for when he met Chi Yanxun, at other times, Shen Shuyu had indeed changed a lot.
Arrogant but with boundaries, hardworking and motivated, and his personality had become much cuter.
He had read some books that said a person would become completely different from before after experiencing major events. He didn’t expect it to be true.
Wen Jiafei looked at his hoodie. The wet parts had dried considerably and didn’t look wretched anymore.
He reached out his hand, paused in mid-air for a second, then retracted it.
Wen Jiafei rubbed his hands together slightly a few times. After all, Shen Shuyu had just complained today that his hands were icy. Only after feeling some warmth in his fingers did he reach out again, wanting to guide that nodding head to rest on his shoulder.
“Beep!”
The light on the operating room went out. The next second, the door opened from the inside.
The slight noise woke Shen Shuyu, who hadn’t been sleeping soundly. He looked at the door groggily and said, “Wen Jiafei… the doctor is out.”
Wen Jiafei stood up and strode toward the doctor. Shen Shuyu woke up fully and hurriedly walked over too.
Dr. An took off his mask. “Resuscitated successfully. However, she still needs to be observed in the ICU recently.”
Wen Jiafei and Shen Shuyu breathed a sigh of relief simultaneously. Wen Jiafei said, “Thank you, Dr. An.”
Dr. An patted his shoulder and left.
After watching the doctor leave, Shen Shuyu said, “It’s okay now, Wen Jiafei.”
But hearing no response from Wen Jiafei, he looked over in confusion, only to find Wen Jiafei’s eyes were red. However, when Shen Shuyu looked over, he returned to normal. He said, “You go back. Thank you for today.”
After speaking, he started walking back. Shen Shuyu followed and asked, “Are you going to accompany Auntie? Or go back to the dorm?”
But in the ICU, family members couldn’t go in to take care of patients even if they wanted to, and the contestant dorms were probably closed by now.
Wen Jiafei naturally knew this. He said, “I’ll just sit at the entrance for a bit.”
What did he mean by ‘sit for a bit’?
Shen Shuyu didn’t speak. He followed him to the ICU entrance. Looking through the glass window on the door, he saw medical staff in sterile suits putting monitoring equipment on Wen Yue.
After watching for a while, Shen Shuyu said, “Come back to my place.”
Wen Jiafei turned to look at him.
Shen Shuyu said, “Help people to the end, send Buddha to the west. Anyway, we both have to go to the awards ceremony tomorrow. But let’s agree first: my place only has a sofa for you to sleep on.”
There was a guest room, but that was Shen Yisi’s room; he occasionally stayed over. Shen Shuyu knew Alphas had a strong sense of territory, so he didn’t dare let him sleep in Shen Yisi’s bed.
If not for this ABO setting, he might have just squeezed in with Wen Jiafei. Pity, Wen Jiafei could only sleep on the sofa.
But his sofa was big enough; it should be more comfortable than sitting here.
Wen Jiafei wanted to refuse, but Shen Shuyu reached out and grabbed his arm.
Wen Jiafei looked down, and found himself being dragged away.
Shen Shuyu walked and talked: “Let’s go, stop dilly-dallying. How late is it? If you’re not sleepy, I am.”
Dragging him into the elevator and walking to the entrance of the inpatient department, Shen Shuyu looked up at the sky and muttered, “When did this rain stop?”
But it was good not to get rained on.
Shen Shuyu stretched, pulling at his injuries, and cried out in pain again. “Next time I see Bai Wei, I’m definitely going to put a sack over his head!”
Wen Jiafei nodded.
Shen Shuyu noticed. “Why are you nodding?”
Wen Jiafei said, “There’s a shop next to my house that sells sacks. Cheap and good quality.”
Shen Shuyu looked blank.
Wen Jiafei clarified, “Putting a sack over Bai WeiāI can help you.”
Shen Shuyu: …???
