Chapter 10: Nei Nei in the Back
Bai Xuci stood at the entrance of the hall, importantly tugging at his sleeve.
His face was slightly embarrassed.
Why was his four-legged gait less steady than his two-legged one?
He furrowed his brow, finally attributing the reason to the table.
It must have been too slippery!
“Why are you leaving today?” A light fragrance wafted over, and Bai Xuci turned to see Fuling, the female demon.
Her eyes held a teasing expression, the green gauze on her arm fluttered in the wind, and her tone was playful.
Bai Xuci: “…”
For some reason, whenever he met her, he felt an uncontrollable urge to run.
“Never mind, I won’t tease you today. Come with me,” Fuling smiled, turned, and walked towards the exit, gesturing for Bai Xuci to follow.
Linshan was very large, and the palaces were complex, though a bit gloomy.
But it must be said…
They were quite beautiful.
Seems the demon has good taste!
Bai Xuci looked around, finally relaxing.
He could finally return to his rabbit burrow and have a good sleep!
“Xiaobai,” a friendly voice called, “May I call you that?”
Fuling turned her head, her eyes like peach blossoms, looking very interested.
Bai Xuci nodded and said, “Of course.”
His friends all called him that.
Fuling chuckled softly.
Then she turned and walked forward without saying anything else.
Leaving Bai Xuci with a questioning look.
After a moment’s hesitation, he followed.
“Phew, I’m finally back.”
Looking at his stone bed, Bai Xuci felt a little teary-eyed. He’d been through so much.
Never going back to that awful place.
Never again.
He swore!
Bai Xuci happily threw himself onto the bed, then with a “bang” transformed into a rabbit, finding a corner to lie down sprawlingly.
Since becoming a demon, he’d gotten used to sleeping in his original form.
Firstly, it saved some magical power, and secondly, because he was small, it gave him a sense of security.
It was a win-win situation!
Bai Xuci wanted to cover himself with a blanket but realized he had rabbit paws, so he closed his eyes and bit the edge of the blanket.
Then he pulled hard.
Mmm, covered.
Time for a nap!
Meanwhile—
Fan Yue stared at a mirror in mid-air, its surface rippling with water-like substance.
The scene inside… was Bai Xuci’s small stone bed.
“Lord, should… we continue watching?” Xuanli asked tentatively.
The reason they didn’t kill the little demon was to observe the anomalies on his body.
He didn’t even know how to abstain from food, but he could get along well with humans; his magical power was so weak that he couldn’t even maintain his human form, but his behavior was indistinguishable from a human.
He was a contradictory being.
They had intended to interrogate him, but now… what was the Lord’s attitude?
Xuanli found it difficult to handle, looking to his right again.
Fan Yue frowned, his golden pupils narrowed slightly, seeming displeased.
Xuanli saw this and understood, so he solemnly said:
“Lord, I’ll capture him—”
“No need.” He waved his hand.
Fan Yue put away the Xuanling Mirror and turned to ask, “What is the Qingyun Sect doing?”
A casual tone.
Xuanli was slightly stunned. Why had the topic shifted here? Wasn’t the Lord uninterested in this matter?
“It’s said that the Lingyun Grand Ceremony has added a treasure-offering segment.” After careful consideration, he added, “It should be that old man Lian Qian who feels his cultivation has stagnated, so he came up with this scheme.”
Speaking of which, Xuanli’s expression was disgusted, as if he had recalled unpleasant memories.
That Qingyun Sect’s sect master, despite looking like decaying wood, was always dreaming of spring.
He not only loved young men and women, but also relied on mythical beasts to improve his cultivation in a neurotic way.
When he had gone to investigate under orders, he had coincidentally caught the old man soaking in some kind of “refining pool.”
It had almost made him sick.
A dilapidated body, with yellowed wrinkled skin…
But surrounded by several girls with skin as delicate as jade.
A three-hundred-year-old man and teenage girls. Humans’ minds were beyond comprehension.
“Treasure-offering?” Fan Yue mused.
“I seem to recall… didn’t the Qingyun Sect lose something two years ago…”
A quarter of an hour later—
“Yes, I will investigate thoroughly.” Xuanli bowed and prepared to leave.
But as he was leaving, he suddenly remembered something.
Wasn’t he here to deal with that little demon??
Why wasn’t it even mentioned?
Fan Yue thought for a moment and reopened the Xuanling Mirror.
Ripples spread, the image gradually becoming clear…
The rabbit’s ears hadn’t been properly adjusted, still pressed under its head.
He could even see several hairs that had fallen out.
His expression wasn’t good, so he put away the Xuanling Mirror.
Cave—
Bai Xuci slept soundly, the corner of the blanket covering his belly, leaving one rabbit leg sticking out.
His two ears were now out from under his head, and were cleverly acting as an “eyemask,” firmly pressed against Bai Xuci’s eyes.
Warm and light-blocking.
When the setting sun slanted onto the stone bed, Bai Xuci showed signs of waking up.
He didn’t know what he had dreamed of, but he kicked the corner of the blanket away with his rabbit leg.
Because it was autumn, cold wind occasionally blew into the cave entrance…
His ears twitched, finally standing upright. Bai Xuci groggily turned over.
From lying on his back, he sat upright on the stone bed.
“Carrots… seem… not harvested yet…” He spoke drowsily.
No, he couldn’t fall asleep.
A white light lingered for a while, and a white-haired young man rubbing his eyes appeared on the bed.
Lazily yawning and stretching, Bai Xuci felt that this nap had been worthwhile.
Except for a slight stinging pain in his arm.
Bai Xuci rolled up his sleeve, wanting to see where that cursed Lingyan Contract was, but he couldn’t reach it halfway.
With no choice,
He started to tug from his chest, his right shoulder completely exposed.
Bai Xuci finally saw the contract.
The patterns were very complex, with a sense of ancient beauty.
“…”
He casually pulled his clothes up again, too lazy to tidy them.
Silence.
He hadn’t had time to think about the consequences of the contract while near the demon; he had only focused on survival.
But now that he was calm, he thought.
“…as a member of Linshan, how could I be a traitor…” This sentence kept circling in his mind, constantly reminding him of one fact:
He seemed destined to share weal and woe with the demon.
His eyes went wide.
He immediately lay back on the bed, despondent.
How could he escape? He’d already made the contract.
Just then.
“Bai Shisan! You’re back?” A loud voice came from outside, getting closer and closer.
Qu San, with a brand-new face, walked into the cave swaggeringly.
Bai Xuci was too lazy to get out of bed, he just lifted his eyelids and glanced.
Then he narrowed his eyes.
“This skin…” Bai Xuci said hesitantly.
Seeing the unsophisticated rabbit’s expression, Qu San puffed up with pride, his scorpion tail almost rising.
“Isn’t it pretty amazing?”
He even thoughtfully spun around.
Bai Xuci became focused, and directly reached out and pulled open Qu San’s clothes.
“Hey, what are you doing? If you can’t get it, you want to destroy it?” He said with affected coquettishness.
And winked.
Bai Xuci: “…”
He was speechless.
“Your upper body, the transformation has gone wrong,” Bai Xuci said irritably, slapping away the swaying scorpion tail.
“It’s in the way.”
Then he left, intending to check on his carrots.
Qu San was dumbfounded. He used his limited brainpower to understand the meaning.
Then he looked down at his upper body…
His shoulder blades were in front, and his nei nei were in the back.
“…”
Bai Xuci squatted on a stone, his eyes full of resentment.
He really shouldn’t have gotten close to the demon…
Everything was going wrong.
In front of him, the carrot field was completely ruined, not a single intact carrot remained.
There were clear signs of animal trampling, and the carrots were all broken.
Half were still in the ground, the other half thrown near the weeds.
So heartbreaking… Wuwuwu.
How would he get through the winter?
When Bai Xuci first arrived, he couldn’t eat carrots; his mind was filled with fish and meat feasts.
But there was nothing to eat on Linshan.
After all, every living thing had become a spirit.
“…”
He had no choice but to try biting a weed. He thought it would be disgusting.
But unexpectedly, it was quite good?
So during the years when he couldn’t transform, Bai Xuci wandered around the mountain.
And he would catch whatever he could and try a bite.
If it was delicious, he would eat it. If not, he would spit it out.
After meeting Mrs. Lin, he entered a new world of transformation.
Bai Xuci, for convenience, changed back to his original form and walked around his small plot of land.
Picking and choosing.
Seeing if he could pull out an intact carrot.
Finally, after some searching, Bai Xuci counted… only three.
Okay, his farming skills were practically nonexistent.
He wouldn’t ask Uncle Lin for seeds again.
Chewing on a carrot top, he wobbled back, forgetting about transforming.
His rabbit ears swayed.
But it looked a little difficult.
Because he was too focused on chewing the carrot, his rabbit head drooped.
He could only walk two steps, then forcefully lift his head.
Maintaining his balance.
Then walk two more steps…
Repeating the cycle.
Finally, Bai Xuci shook off the carrot top, so it didn’t obstruct his vision.
The cave was just ahead.
Victory was near…
Bravely lifting a rabbit leg, he stepped on some fabric.
Slightly slippery.
Then—
He tumbled over, the three carrots rolling down the slope.
Bai Xuci shook his rabbit head, trying to figure out what happened.
He looked up.
Fan Yue stared at him with an indescribable expression.
