Chapter 23 (Three-in-One): Snagged PART 1
The meal was finished, and after helping with some chores, it was time to leave.
After confirming that Lin’s small wooden house hadn’t suffered any damage, Baixu Ci finally put his mind at ease.
Before leaving, Baixu Ci hugged Nannuan.
The little one.
“Sigh, it’s all my fault for not taking good care of Ayao. Little Bao was very weak when she was born, and she still can’t speak clearly now,” he said with a worried tone.
Baixu Ci squeezed Nannuan’s little hand and comforted her:
“Children, it’s okay if they speak late. They’ll grow up healthy. Don’t worry too much!”
She was so cute. When she was first born, she was only as big as two palms.
“Here, go to your mother,” Baixu Ci handed Nannuan to Meng Yao and prepared to leave.
But Nannuan’s grape-sized eyes kept looking at Baixu Ci, without even blinking, very intently.
“Bunny… bunny,” she suddenly started to speak, her little hand reaching out.
Baixu Ci’s movements froze. He was afraid that Nannuan would say, “He’s a bunny,” next.
“Oh, Little Bao spoke again! That’s great! Say it again,” Uncle Lin was very happy, not noticing that the child was calling out to Baixu Ci.
Meng Yao’s eyes softened, and she touched the baby’s head.
“Do you want to eat bunny?”
Baixu Ci was silent…
“Then Uncle and Auntie, I’m leaving!” Baixu Ci finally left the small wooden door, saying somewhat reluctantly.
“Mm, take it easy on the road. There are some thorny bushes down the mountain, remember not to scratch yourself!” Meng Yao gave a few more instructions before waving goodbye.
Fan Yue was an observer throughout, watching the little demon deceive himself.
This family clearly had nothing to do with him.
“Sir, where are we going now?” Baixu Ci asked when they were some distance from the small wooden house.
He had come down the mountain for the Lin family, and now, seeing them doing well,
his heart was at ease.
As for the logging in town, Baixu Ci felt he couldn’t do much.
He was a disembodied spirit; even transforming was a problem, and staying here would only cause trouble.
Xuan Li would probably come to help…
“Do you want to leave?” he directly questioned.
Baixu Ci was dumbfounded. He wondered, did he say that?
Although he had considered it slightly.
“No, but I’m really useless,” he explained, looking up as he followed behind Fan Yue.
The mountain trees were lush and green, and the sunlight was gentle, shining on the speaker’s face, giving him a lively appearance.
Fan Yue looked down, saying nothing.
He could see through him, yet couldn’t see through him.
He was more interesting than those people in the cultivation world.
“Follow.” A simple instruction.
Baixu Ci stood in the woods, looking resentfully at the back, puzzled.
Why did he have to bring him?
He tilted his head.
Could it be that the demon needed a servant…?
He still followed closely behind.
The human town was bustling with activity.
Baixu Ci followed Fan Yue, like a naive follower.
Since arriving in this world, he had almost always stayed in Linshan.
He had only seen strangely shaped demons and rarely seen so many…people.
Fan Yue didn’t like the little demon following him like this; he looked timid, so he reached out and pulled him to his side.
“Stand properly.”
Baixu Ci: …
Why does he sound more and more like a headmaster?
He tugged at his slightly disheveled collar and slowly walked side-by-side with the other person.
Vendors’ calls echoed through the streets, and the vendors were very enthusiastic, some even soliciting customers directly on the road.
Baixu Ci was only well-behaved for a while before his attention was drawn away.
“Hairpins for sale! Hairpins for sale! The latest styles from the shops in the west city!” A woman sitting in a rocking chair called out, adjusting her hair; she looked quite charming.
“Sesame cakes! Sesame cakes! Five copper coins each. Freshly baked!”
A scoop of the spatula, and the round sesame cakes in the oil pan flipped over, the aroma of scallions wafting in the air.
“Sugar figurines! Sugar figurines! All kinds of sugar figurines, cats, dogs, anything!”
The master blew on one side while his other hand made a few simple movements, and an adorable little cat was created.
Baixu Ci was completely immersed in the joy of watching the stalls, his steps unconsciously veering off course, becoming crooked.
Until—
His body lost its balance and he was forcibly pulled back.
His wrist was tightly grasped.
“Are you going to set up a stall?” Fan Yue’s eyes remained fixed ahead, expressionless as he walked forward.
Baixu Ci was aggrieved, obediently following behind, and said sullenly:
“Sir— Brother, I’ve never seen this before.”
He had always lived in Linshan, and the only things he was familiar with were flowers, plants, and some strange demons.
It was his first time down here, so what’s wrong with looking around…
He hadn’t even said he wanted to buy anything!
He stopped, and without paying attention, Baixu Ci bumped his head against the other person’s arm.
Sparks flew before his eyes.
“…”
Why did he suddenly stop??
“Do you like these common human things?” Fan Yue turned to look over, still puzzled.
The market was still very lively, with people thronging the streets, so the two of them stopping in the middle of the road was very obstructive.
A hawker carrying candied haws looked annoyed.
“Hey, what are you blocking the way for?”
He impatiently squeezed past Baixu Ci, even deliberately bumping him.
“What do you mean, common human things? Do you think you’re a god?” His tone wasn’t very pleasant, and it seemed he deliberately made them hear.
Baixu Ci: …
Is it possible that he’s not human?
Fan Yue’s face immediately turned unpleasant; he raised his hand to—
A fair hand reached out.
“Don’t.”
“…”
The street was still bustling, the only strange thing being the two young men walking together.
One was imposing, but with a hint of annoyance between his brows.
One was timid, occasionally glancing at his companion.
As if afraid of something.
Baixu Ci was indeed worried, worried that the demon would directly kill that person.
This was in the market!
No violence, no violence.
Finally, they reached a corner with a notice board.
They stopped.
“Humans are short-sighted and deceitful. Why do you protect them?” Fan Yue’s tone was very straightforward, seemingly genuinely puzzled.
Fewer people were around the notice board. Baixu Ci looked around before speaking:
“But some are not.”
The gaze he received was even more puzzled.
Baixu Ci inexplicably felt ashamed because he had been human before and sometimes stood on the human side.
He couldn’t help it.
“You are a demon.”
He reminded him again.
“…”
It’s fortunate that there was no one else nearby. However, Baixu Ci really wanted to ask if there was still a need for disguise?
Calling him a demon and a human.
And he didn’t spare his “evaluation.”
Why did he get the feeling that the other person just came to see, and wasn’t afraid of being discovered?
“Hey, what’s this?” Baixu Ci walked forward and smoothed down a piece of paper that was curling up at the edge.
He carefully looked at it.
Fan Yue: “Can you understand it?”
