Chapter 32: It Needs to Be Shaved.
Fan Yue didn’t see anything wrong with this. It was just a matter of checking the original pact. And while he was at it—
“No, you can’t.” Bai Xuzi refused outright, his little face serious. What a joke. How could he just take off his clothes for anyone? It was improper.
Fan Yue wasn’t in a hurry. He simply looked up and asked, “Why is it improper?” His tone was frank as if he genuinely didn’t understand why the other was refusing.
Bai Xuzi hung his head, tugging at his wrist in frustration, not wanting to answer. How was this proper in any way? Taking off his clothes, and in such a… he glanced around the room and was left speechless. In such a dim room. It was too weird.
“You don’t want to take it off?” Fan Yue rubbed the other’s wrist with his thumb, pondering for a moment, still trying to get to the root of the problem.
Bai Xuzi couldn’t be bothered to speak anymore. He just grumbled in his mind; the other could hear him anyway.
Yeah, yeah! I just don’t want to!
Fan Yue’s expression didn’t change much. He just shifted his gaze to the slender wrist next to him and gave it a tug.
Due to the momentum, Bai Xuzi lurched forward before he could react, flailing to steady himself. But with only one free hand, it didn’t do much good, and his forehead slammed right into the other’s chin. The impact made his head buzz.
Bai Xuzi practically fell into the other’s arms. His white robes were already fluffy, and now they looked like a giant petticoat with a small, scrunched-up face in the middle.
“Your Majesty, why didn’t you say anything? That really hurt,” Bai Xuzi said, his tone full of indignation, like a small volcano about to erupt.
But.
“Two choices,” a deep voice said as Fan Yue looked down at him.
Bai Xuzi froze, the fire in his eyes instantly extinguished. He asked slowly, “What?”
Fan Yue glanced down at the wrist he was holding. It was slender and fragile, not at all like the fleshy body of his true form.
“Don’t take off your clothes, change back to your original form, and I will alter the pact for you again.”
“The other option—”
Before he could finish, Fan Yue sensed something was wrong. With a “poof,” he had to look down.
He was face to face with a little rabbit head.
“…”
Bai Xuzi was suddenly a bit shy. He said earnestly, “I choose the first option.” Who would want to take off their clothes? That’s weird. His original form was much less of a burden.
The rabbit’s eyes darted to the side, signaling for Fan Yue to look at the rabbit paw in his hand. Here, it’s right here.
Fan Yue raised an eyebrow and poked the fluffy rabbit leg a couple of times with his finger. Amidst the thick fur, he could see a faintly glowing pattern. He let out a soft “tsk.”
“I wasn’t finished speaking just now,” Fan Yue said, his gaze shifting back to him, offering a kind reminder.
Bai Xuzi was sprawled out on the other’s robes, not seeing what there was to hesitate about, but he was still curious. So he propped himself up on his other rabbit leg, wobbling into a half-sitting position, and asked, “Well, what was the part you didn’t finish?”
Fan Yue didn’t look at him. Instead, he seemed more interested in stroking the rabbit paw in his hand.
“I can’t see the pact. It needs to be shaved.” His tone was flat, but the damage it caused was immense, like a clap of thunder on a clear day.
Bai Xuzi stiffened for a moment, then shot up like a wriggling fish, all four paws landing on Fan Yue’s legs as he lifted his rabbit head.
“What?!” His voice was filled with disbelief.
Fan Yue’s expression didn’t change. In fact, he seemed to be enjoying himself, giving the paw a little squeeze. The touch was warm.
“How can you shave my fur?!” Bai Xuzi was furious. He found the whole situation utterly ridiculous. Why was altering a pact such a hassle?
“You like it that much? But it will grow back,” Fan Yue said, his gaze shifting over. He asked with great seriousness, not seeing any problem with this method.
Bai Xuzi felt incredibly wronged. It would be so ugly if it were shaved, all bald. It would be no different from being naked! Besides, the magical garment he got after transforming was also powered by his fur. If he shaved it… would he be left without clothes, completely bare?
Hearing this, Fan Yue felt a lump in his throat. There’s no need to think that far.
Bai Xuzi’s ears were tense. He was not happy. But after thinking it over, he felt he was being dramatic. His fur was so precious. Forget it.
Poof.
Suddenly, there was a “princess” in a poofy dress in his arms again, only this one came with a pair of resentful red eyes.
“You can’t just shave my fur,” Bai Xuzi emphasized, very concerned, completely forgetting the fact that he was still in the other’s arms. He looked up, his gaze direct and serious.
Fan Yue rarely saw his eyes so directly. Looking straight into them now, a strange feeling welled up inside him. They were so clear, like a mirror. He could even see his own reflection.
But more than that, there was—emotion.
A demon’s eyes usually held no emotion, mostly retaining the inorganic gaze of a predator. Even if they tried to imitate it later, they could never achieve this level of depth.
“You—” Fan Yue started to speak. But his golden pupils suddenly constricted, and he quickly looked away, his expression turning strange.
Bai Xuzi lowered his head and started pulling at his own clothes, completely focused on finding the Spirit-Word Pact, a look of annoyance on his face. As he’d thought, he still couldn’t see it very well. He twisted himself into a pretzel, trying to see the light blue mark on his back.
He saw a tiny edge of it, and his face lit up.
“Your Majesty, it’s here! I found it!” he exclaimed, looking up excitedly to tell him, completely oblivious to his exposed shoulder.
Bai Xuzi truly didn’t care. Compared to his beautiful fur, nothing in the world was more important. It kept him warm and was stunningly beautiful. Awoo, you absolutely cannot shave it!
“Mm.”
Hearing the muffled sound, Bai Xuzi frowned slightly. Why wasn’t he turning to look at him? He blinked and glanced down at his own exposed shoulder. Was it that unsightly?
“No.” This time, the voice was genuinely helpless.
Fan Yue pressed his lips together, feeling that this little demon’s train of thought was truly incomprehensible. He shifted his gaze back. The white hair was scattered, with a few strands slipping onto the shoulder, which was quite… He looked up. Slightly widened eyes, a dazed expression. In short, not very bright.
“Come closer.”
Bai Xuzi found the request strange. Closer? Weren’t they already close enough? He shifted slightly, just for show.
Fan Yue glanced at Bai Xuzi, said nothing, and simply applied a little force with his hands, pulling him over. Then he lowered his gaze to inspect the old pact, pinning down the restless wrist in the process.
“Don’t move,” he commanded lightly.
Bai Xuzi felt awkward hearing this, but when he felt the old “Spirit-Word Pact” begin to heat up, he immediately went still. Wuu-wuu-wuu, why does it feel like I’m getting a tattoo? I’ve become a delinquent student.
Fan Yue’s brow furrowed. He couldn’t understand again. He wanted to ask but stopped himself. Never mind, he could ask slowly later.
Just then—
“Will it hurt?” a weak voice came from his arms, accompanied by a pair of ruby-red eyes that looked incredibly pitiful.
Fan Yue’s movements stopped. He looked down at the little demon in his arms, his expression changing subtly. The hand circling the other’s wrist couldn’t help but tighten, and he rubbed it a couple of times. It was very smooth.
“I might not be able to control it well. It might hurt,” Fan Yue said, his tone sounding perfectly normal, without a hint of guilt for lying.
Bai Xuzi instantly tensed up, no longer wanting to continue. He instinctively tried to pull his hand back, wanting to run.
“Uh, uh, maybe… maybe we can do this tomorrow?” Bai Xuzi swallowed, suddenly feeling scared. Maybe he shouldn’t push his luck. He could live without hearing the other’s thoughts, right?
“Want to back out?”
A slightly deep voice pulled Bai Xuzi back to reality. He looked up in a panic. Fan Yue was looking down at him and had, without changing his expression, effortlessly shifted his position for a better line of sight.
Bai Xuzi didn’t even dare to breathe. Why… why did he suddenly feel so hard to talk to?
“N-No,” he stammered, his lips pressed into a tight line. After speaking, Bai Xuzi immediately lowered his eyes, not for any other reason than pure fear. Being stared at like that… why did he feel like he had become a dish on a platter?
“What are you grabbing at?”
By the time Bai Xuzi realized it, his other free hand had also lost its freedom, clasped together with the first in the other’s palm.
“!!” He was shocked. H-How could he do this?
Fan Yue didn’t see anything wrong with his actions. He just felt the width of the two wrists and frowned slightly. How could he still grasp them both at once?
“Your Majesty—” Bai Xuzi couldn’t help but speak up.
A glance shot his way…
“It’s… uncomfortable,” he continued slowly, gesturing with his eyes.
Fan Yue: “Mm, we’ll talk about it later.”
The one in his arms was clearly getting anxious. His mouth opened and closed, wanting to say something, but in the end, he obediently shut it.
“Want to curse at me?”
Bai Xuzi froze, not daring to look up, feeling very guilty.
Fan Yue gave him an indifferent glance, said nothing, and “conveniently” poured in some more spiritual energy. As expected, the drooping little head immediately shot up, eyes shining brightly.
He checked his dantian. It was the same as always, not holding much. Like a small puddle. He filled it up directly, just like before.
“Thank you, Your Majesty.” Bai Xuzi had actually felt the influx of spiritual energy long ago. After a moment’s hesitation, he still offered his sincere thanks. After all, this was a free “sponsorship” from the big boss! Hmmm… he could reluctantly accept being “handcuffed.”
Fan Yue hadn’t expected the little demon to say that. Looking at it this way, he did have some conscience.
But—the more interesting part was yet to come.
He looked down at the ordinary Heart-Linking Pact he had placed before, his eyes darkening. A ball of light condensed in his palm; he was going to replace it with something else.
Because of the sudden abundance of spiritual energy, Bai Xuzi’s whole body felt warm and comfortable. He was still basking in the feeling when he was suddenly lifted up. He didn’t have time to react, and his chin was passively placed on the other’s shoulder. An arm wrapped around his waist, seemingly to hold him in place.
“Eh?” he let out a sound of instinctual confusion.
Just as Bai Xuzi was about to turn his head to ask, his eyebrows shot up. He habitually bit his lip. The spot where the old pact was felt strange. It wasn’t painful, just very… tiring.
Cold sweat beaded on his forehead. His face turned deathly pale.
Bai Xuzi could almost physically feel the spiritual energy draining from his body, completely out of his control. The spiritual power he had just accumulated was instantly sucked away, all of it rushing to the location of the pact, as if trying to drain him dry.
In the end, Bai Xuzi couldn’t hold on. He released his lip and began to pant heavily, feeling as if a giant boulder was on his back. This… this wasn’t pain… but why was he so tired? He was done for, done for.
Fan Yue looked at the state of the person in his arms and didn’t think it was a big deal, but he still discreetly replenished some of his spiritual energy.
“Your Majesty…” a weak voice came from his arms.
“What is it?”
Bai Xuzi lay on the other’s shoulder and shook his head, trying hard to speak. “Can we just forget it? I won’t listen to your thoughts anymore. You can listen to mine however you want, just… just do it.”
After stammering through the sentence, he let out a pained whimper. “So tired…”
Bai Xuzi really wanted to bang his head against a wall. This was too unbearable. It felt like he had been hauling bricks at a construction site all day. How much longer would this take? he wondered aimlessly.
Just then, Bai Xuzi suddenly felt a little bit of strength return, and one of his hands was released by Fan Yue.
The moment is now!
He struggled to lift his arm. It wobbled, but finally, it rested on the other’s shoulder. Bai Xuzi really wanted to interrupt the process. He seriously suspected that before he could successfully hear the big boss’s thoughts, he would be “sucked” dry by that stupid pact. That was not a good deal at all.
He licked his dry lips, pushed with all his might, and his body tilted to the side.
Bai Xuzi looked at the floor, thinking how great it would be if he fell. It would surely interrupt the process.
But just then… a hand wrapped around him again, pulling him back to rest on that shoulder.
Unwilling to give up, he tried again, but his hand was pinned down firmly. He couldn’t move at all.
“!!”
