Chapter 42: Over Time, One Just Gets Used to It.
Fan Yue ultimately didn’t accept Bai Xuci’s “kind offer,” merely watching the other sleep through the night.
Four rabbit legs stretched toward the ceiling.
Two ears covering the eyes.
Sometimes the rabbit feet would even twitch.
Fan Yue truly couldn’t understand why he insisted on sleeping on his back.
Is this more comfortable?
But in the demon realm, this sleeping posture was virtually non-existent, especially when in one’s true form; natural vigilance usually dictated otherwise.
“Awoo…” A small sound came from the bed.
Bai Xuci rolled over as a matter of routine. First, he arched his back, then stretched his front legs forward, then his back legs backward.
Trying hard to wake himself up.
“Did you sleep comfortably?” Fan Yue asked, hands clasped behind his back.
The rabbit on the bed froze instantly. He slowly turned his rabbit head back, looking somewhat embarrassed.
“It… it was okay.”
Bai Xuci thought to himself that this wasn’t his fault. He had kindly left a large space last night, but the other party had rejected his “kindness.”
So…
So he had “regretfully” slept by himself.
His little bed was so soft, with a thick layer of straw underneath.
He had dragged it all there himself!
Thinking of this, his ears perked up slightly with a touch of pride.
“Tidy yourself up,” Fan Yue said, looking down at the creature on the bed.
He looked him up and down, frowning slightly.
How did he sleep until his fur got so rough?
Bai Xuci was still in a daze, trying to pat his face with his rabbit paws to wake up.
But before he could connect—
His entire rabbit body tilted, and then with a splat, he flipped over onto his back.
Four paws in the air, face full of confusion.
Fan Yue’s hand paused in mid-air, eyebrows raised slightly, seemingly surprised by this turn of events.
“…”
Bai Xuci suddenly felt very aggrieved. Why pet so hard?!
He got flipped over.
Silence reigned for a moment.
The rabbit on the bed exerted force and flipped himself back over, adjusting his stance.
Then he turned his rabbit head away and sat down alone.
Bai Xuci truly felt awkward, especially about being petted into a flip. It was humiliating for a rabbit.
Too embarrassing to mention.
He needed a moment of silence.
Fan Yue looked at the back on the bed, unable to suppress the curve of his lips.
“Your fur is a bit messy.” It sounded like an explanation.
Bai Xuci’s ears twitched at this. He looked down at his own rabbit legs and stomped them against each other.
Nonsense. Where is it messy?
But just then, Bai Xuci tilted again because someone tugged on his rabbit leg.
Forced to hop.
It looked a bit comical.
“My Lord, hey, you—” An anxious voice.
Fan Yue’s expression didn’t change, but as his palm encircled the small front leg, he found it amusing.
Still, he proceeded to transform him.
Instantly, a youth with white hair and red pupils appeared on the bed, looking a bit dazed.
His hair was also somewhat knotted.
Bai Xuci looked down at his wrist, then looked up at Fan Yue.
A little confused.
What is this for? Why transform me again?
While thinking, Bai Xuci glanced up and saw a hand slowly approaching. Alarms blared in his head.
Not going to pet me again, is he?
He instinctively turned his head away and tugged hard on his wrist.
However.
It didn’t budge.
Bai Xuci took a deep breath, sat up straight, and squeezed his eyes shut.
Whatever.
Being petted a couple of times won’t make me lose a piece of meat.
He braced himself.
But Bai Xuci only felt a very light touch before the hand withdrew. It seemed to have only brushed the ends of his hair.
He opened his eyes in confusion and looked up.
“Aren’t you very angry?” Fan Yue teased. After all, he had never seen this method of sulking before—turning the rabbit head away to show only the back.
Like a sandbag.
Bai Xuci frowned instantly and retorted:
“I am not angry, My Lord.”
But these words carried little persuasive power because Fan Yue didn’t seem to be listening. He just lowered his eyes and stared at him, his expression indifferent.
Bai Xuci: “??”
Is there dust on my face? He reached out to pat his cheeks.
Just then, a lock of white hair was lifted, followed by a nonchalant voice.
“Mn, this is smoother.”
Bai Xuci blinked, wanting to look, but due to the angle, as soon as he turned his head, the silver hair began to slide slowly from Fan Yue’s hand.
By the time he turned fully, the lock of hair had slipped away.
The timing was perfect.
The cave actually faced south, so the morning sunlight could shine in, especially now.
Bai Xuci’s hair looked as if it were dusted with light, draped softly over his shoulders and scattered in winding curves across the bed.
Viewed from the side, his eyelashes were like small fans, casting shallow shadows on his cheeks.
However, even more beautiful were those eyes.
Fan Yue paused in his motion of lifting the hair, his gaze inadvertently drawn to those eyes.
A red close to bewitching, yet excessively clear.
Contradictory yet harmonious.
His fingers moved upward unconsciously, wanting to touch.
But—
“Wu?” Soft flesh on a cheek was poked.
Bai Xuci had turned his head back, colliding right with the finger. His small face distorted slightly.
Silly.
Fan Yue looked down at the little demon. His well-defined fingers curled, and he simply pinched Bai Xuci’s cheek.
“Mn.” A sound with no specific meaning.
Bai Xuci’s eyes widened into perfect circles. He couldn’t understand—he just turned his head to look, how did he end up getting his head stuck upon turning back?
He tentatively tried to move his chin.
Failed. It was pinched tight.
Fan Yue successfully earned a resentful glare and a slightly vengeful “heavy” head drop.
Heavy.
He really held grudges.
“My Lord—” Bai Xuci dragged out the tone, trying to pull his wrist free again, his mouth pouting.
“Your fur was messy just now. I was only tidying it for you, not intentionally flipping you over.” The tone was very slow, unexpectedly carrying a hint of gentleness.
Fan Yue used a little force to prop up the heavy head in his hand, and a pair of resentful red eyes looked back at him.
“Do you understand?” As if patiently explaining.
Hearing this, Bai Xuci felt skeptical. With his free hand, he tugged at his own hair.
He retorted very seriously: “No way, my hair is very smooth.”
He wanted to hand it over for the other to see.
Fan Yue felt the head in his hand growing heavier and heavier. Has this little demon shifted his entire body weight here?
Truly never seen anything like it…
“Look!” A very excited tone.
Fan Yue frowned, beginning to ponder if there was any remedy for a demon’s low intelligence.
On the mountain path—
Bai Xuci finally understood what the other meant, feeling momentarily awkward.
So it was just “grooming.” No wonder his hair was so smooth afterward.
Sigh…
Wait, no. Why should I feel regret?
He shook his head, feeling he was getting weirder and weirder.
He hurried with small steps to catch up with Fan Yue ahead. His white robes fluttered on the mountain path, sleeves catching the wind.
Like a ball.
“My Lord, are we going back now?” Bai Xuci asked, confusion still on his face.
Just leaving like this?
Is the matter resolved or not?
That wedding procession…
Fan Yue stopped, looking down at the creature beside him, helplessness in his eyes.
“Come here.”
Bai Xuci had a face full of question marks. Why change the topic again?
But he obediently scooted forward, getting closer.
“Mn?”
Fan Yue scooped up this “snowball” with one arm and continued walking.
Bai Xuci: “!!”
“Why can you never keep up?” Fan Yue frowned slightly, genuinely puzzled.
This little demon has four legs, clearly.
“My Lord, I-I-I have legs! I want to get down!” Bai Xuci thought this was ridiculous. He wasn’t a small rock; how could he just be picked up and carried away?
Because he didn’t dare push the other away…
He could only…
Hold his breath and try hard to sink downwards, increasing his own weight.
Imagining himself as a sliding weight on a scale.
Fan Yue raised his hand to pinch the nape of the creature in his arms, forcing him to lift his head.
“Why do you not want to be held again?”
“Is it because of the transformation again?”
Bai Xuci swallowed. Hearing the two emphasized “agains,” he sensed the atmosphere might be wrong, but he didn’t know how to explain…
He stammered.
In the end.
Fan Yue walked expressionlessly along the mountain path, only now with a rabbit hanging from the crook of his arm.
The rabbit head looked somewhat nervous.
For some reason, Bai Xuci felt the gap in this arm crook was a bit large, making him constantly afraid of falling. He could only struggle to arch forward.
Holding on very tight.
Two large ears were plastered against his rabbit head; he looked quite pitiful.
Fan Yue watched this without moving, even shifting his arm slightly outward.
Sure enough, the little demon clung tighter.
His back legs even kicked anxiously.
Duplicitous.
Bai Xuci naturally didn’t know Fan Yue’s internal monologue; he only knew this was too much effort.
So tired.
It was practically worse than walking himself.
He shook his rabbit head, feeling his two paws were too tired, so he arched forward again.
His back legs kicked several times but found only air.
His ears drooped, a bit dejected.
His entire rabbit body slid down.
But at the last moment, Bai Xuci suddenly felt his back leg touch something. It seemed he could stand on tiptoe.
His ears stood up instantly.
With a mighty push.
He finally succeeded in draping himself over the other’s arm, his rabbit body bisected.
Four rabbit legs dangled in mid-air.
Leisurely swinging.
“Phew…” Bai Xuci let out a breath. Being small isn’t always good. It’s inconvenient to do anything.
And these legs are too short.
“Tired?”
Bai Xuci paused slightly at the voice, realizing what the foothold just now was. It seemed… it was the person’s hand.
“…”
He fell into silence.
Fan Yue looked down at the creature hanging on his arm and pressed his lips together.
Why refuse to be held when transformed?
Where is the difference?
“A little,” Bai Xuci sniffled, answering honestly.
The clothes were too slippery. He had tried to climb up several times without success; now he was barely hanging on.
It was indeed tiring just now.
By this time, they had reached the outside of the main hall.
Occasionally, a few attendants would look their way, but since Bai Xuci kept his rabbit head down looking at the ground, he didn’t realize where they were.
He just folded his rabbit legs.
A bit depressed.
He didn’t know how to explain it to Fan Yue clearly; they were simply on different wavelengths.
“My Lord,” Bai Xuci spoke slowly.
“Mn.”
“Sigh, how about you stop carrying me too? If we must equate the original form with the human form, then it’s better not to hold my original form either.” Bai Xuci spoke quickly, somewhat giving up on himself.
Better not to be held at all, saves me from not being able to explain.
Otherwise, I’ll be asked again, “Why is the original form okay to hold, but not the transformed one?”
The footsteps paused and stopped.
Bai Xuci waited for a moment, but finding himself still hanging there, he felt a slight sense of foreboding.
So he slowly added:
“My Lord, look, I’m also quite heavy. Letting you carry me all the time is—”
His words cut off abruptly. Bai Xuci’s pupils dilated as his entire body was tossed into the air.
Then he fell directly into the other’s arms.
A head of silver hair scattered loose, two slender arms draped over the other’s shoulders, eyes full of shock.
But it wasn’t over.
“Hey!” A very small sound of dissatisfaction.
Bai Xuci was tossed up again, like a small sack. Afraid of falling, he could only grab the other’s clothes tightly.
His lips were pressed into a tight line.
A little scared.
The “Snowball” was thus blatantly carried back into the main hall. The surrounding attendants were stunned.
Pondering the magic trick of turning a rabbit into a living person…
After entering the hall, Bai Xuci instinctively tried to struggle, but his legs were clamped tighter.
“My L—”
“This Seat has thought of a good solution, since you are not used to being held in human form.” Fan Yue’s tone was very slow, betraying no specific emotion.
Bai Xuci frowned, intuition telling him the next words might not be good.
“Then This Seat will hold you constantly. Over time, you will just get used to it.”
