Chapter 58: Hanging a Small Bundle
Seeing that the little demon was indeed clueless, the chipmunk decided not to leave just yet.
He simply placed the small bundles from his arms onto the ground.
And wiped his sweat with a paw.
“The Blood Moon is coming soon, everyone has to leave quickly, you know? Didn’t any demon tell you?” His tone was one of utter disbelief.
Bai Xuci’s eyes were blank.
“Blood Moon again… what is that?”
The chipmunk seemed to have rested enough. He bent down to pick up the two bundles again, then waved at Bai Xuci.
Signaling him to follow, so they could talk while walking.
Bai Xuci carried the bag of nuts with his index finger, trailing slowly behind the other, frowning in thought.
“The Blood Moon isn’t common,” the chipmunk’s voice rang out.
Bai Xuci looked up at the back in front of him.
“The last time was about five years ago?” Seeming to talk to himself, the chipmunk scratched his chin with a paw, then suddenly stopped and turned to look.
“You look young; could it be you haven’t experienced it?”
Bai Xuci was speechless for a moment; he indeed hadn’t experienced it.
He had only been a rabbit for three years…
“Looks like you really haven’t.” The chipmunk saw it at a glance, then turned his head back to continue walking forward.
Choosing a random fork in the road leading down the mountain.
Bai Xuci now truly realized there were no demons left on Linshan, because the Gnu brothers who used to guard the gate were gone too.
Just an empty gate.
Even the barrier had dispersed.
“I’m not too clear on the details either. The only certain thing is to stay as far away from Zunshang as possible, at least save your life first.”
“Come back after a while.”
Bai Xuci frowned hearing this, still not quite understanding, so he asked directly:
“But why? Does the Blood Moon affect something?”
Just as the words left his mouth, Bai Xuci suddenly froze, remembering the other party’s abnormal red eyes.
Was it the influence of the Blood Moon?
The chipmunk just happened to reach the next fork in the road; it was time to part ways.
He turned around to take the bundle from Bai Xuci’s hand.
Deftly throwing it onto his own head.
“Of course it affects things. Our Zunshang is originally…” He had intended to say it lightly, but suddenly cut off.
“Is originally what?” Bai Xuci stood in front of him, expression inexplicably solemn.
The chipmunk was somewhat awkward, raised a paw to adjust the bundle on his head, then explained:
“The Blood Moon is when the Yin and evil energy in the world is at its peak. Linshan’s spiritual power supply will stop directly, and the mountain will become a barren mountain.”
Tone inexplicably regretful.
“Aren’t you leaving?” The chipmunk suddenly remembered this matter, looking up at him.
Bai Xuci was suddenly asked this and fell into doubt.
Leave? Where… where would he go?
“But Linshan won’t be barren for long. Once Zunshang recovers… it should be fine,” the chipmunk muttered to himself.
Bai Xuci seemed to have grasped a key point, simply leaning down to ask:
“When the Blood Moon comes, what happens to Zunshang? Why does everyone have to leave?”
The chipmunk looked puzzled, asking back directly:
“Why not leave? Zunshang becomes unusually irritable during the Blood Moon, and casualties have always been severe. A little demon like you staying here, afraid you’ll be ground to dust, right?” Dark eyes looking over, somewhat uncomprehending.
He considered himself to have some fate with this little demon, so he didn’t mind reminding him.
“Last time Lord Xuan was seriously injured, so Zunshang established the rule that when the Blood Moon approaches, Linshan temporarily closes.”
“The lack of a barrier now is just to facilitate the demons’ departure.”
The chipmunk felt he had explained clearly enough, so this time he really walked towards the path below.
But didn’t forget to add a sentence.
“You should hurry up and pack to leave too; if you don’t go now, it’ll be too late.”
Bai Xuci stood on the small path of Linshan, silent.
Just watching that receding back.
The canopy overhead refracted some light, revealing a somewhat desolate atmosphere.
“Still not answering me.” A slightly resentful voice.
The Cave—
Bai Xuci held a handmade broom, currently sweeping the dust on the ground.
Very focused.
Because he hadn’t been home for a long time, it was a bit dirty.
“Achoo!” Bai Xuci choked on the dust, waving his hand in front of his face uncomfortably, wanting to clean the air.
Finally, he put down the broom and sat on a large rock, looking aggrieved.
Cupping his chin, staring at the air in front, dazing out.
Wait for the dust to settle, then Bai Xuci stood up.
First, he gathered the intact dried carrots hanging on the stone wall, then collected the bamboo basket of carrot slices in the corner.
Since they were preserved with spiritual power, they hadn’t gone bad.
Bai Xuci put these things on the stone table, then looked around the cave.
Finally, his gaze shifted to the bed.
Then he walked over, climbed onto the bed, and fished out a clean white cloth from the inner side.
This was given to him by Auntie Lin.
Bai Xuci looked down at the white cloth, thought for a moment, and walked to the stone table.
Spread the cloth out and moved the pile of dried carrots onto it.
“What’s missing…” He muttered to himself.
His gaze slowly moved to that rock.
Oh, it’s here.
Bai Xuci trotted over, squatted down, and pushed the rock with force.
The sound of grit friction rang out.
“Phew…”
Bai Xuci shook his wrist, panting heavily, feeling this rock was a bit too heavy.
How did he move it here in the first place?
But that wasn’t important. Bai Xuci looked down at his “empty” cellar, wanting to find some seeds he had stored.
Craning his neck to look inside.
Finally feeling it was too troublesome, he simply transformed into his original form.
Jumped in with a leap.
The cellar wasn’t particularly large; previously it was just for storing his dried carrots.
Besides that, there were seeds scavenged from Uncle and Auntie Lin.
Bai Xuci rummaged with his rabbit paws inside, finally finding a small cloth bag.
Lowered his head to grab it in his mouth, then jumped onto a small stone inside the cellar to use as a stepping stone.
Arched his rabbit body, leaped forcefully.
Landed very steadily on the ground.
Bai Xuci shook his ears, then ran directly towards the stone table, not noticing a shadow had appeared behind him.
Holding the seeds in his mouth, he jumped very agilely.
Unfortunately, he didn’t make it onto the table surface, just barely hanging on the edge.
Bai Xuci instantly forgot to transform, just anxiously arching upwards.
Didn’t want to fall.
Tried hard to lift his rabbit head up, placing the seeds on the table first.
Back legs still kicking.
Because Bai Xuci was too focused, he didn’t notice a tall shadow moving over behind him.
Just when he was about to give up and let go with his rabbit paws.
His back leg suddenly stepped on something, pushed up forcefully, and finally climbed onto the table.
“Phew…”
Bai Xuci sat on the table, resting for a moment.
Then carefully looked at his things: carrots, seeds.
Seemed like just this little bit.
He earnestly extended his rabbit paws, mimicking making a small bundle for himself.
Since there wasn’t much stuff, Bai Xuci could carry it in his original form too.
Rabbit head measured the strap of the bundle, felt it was about right, so he slipped into it.
Then tilted back.
The bundle hung around his neck.
Bai Xuci twisted his rabbit body, adjusted the position, and turned his head preparing to leave.
But—
A faint gaze, expressionless.
Bai Xuci’s rabbit legs went soft instantly, and he sat down on the stone table with a splat.
And because he looked up, the small bundle on his neck fell backward.
Lying straight on the table surface.
Looking at Fan Yue in terror.
“Where are you going?” Fan Yue asked with lowered red eyes, expressionless.
Like an interrogation.
Bai Xuci’s rabbit head happened to pillow on the small bundle, like lying in bed…
He lifted a rabbit foot nervously.
“Answer.” The tone wasn’t very pleasant, even a bit impatient.
Bai Xuci’s eyes widened slightly, feeling he was being yelled at.
Inexplicably panicky inside.
Didn’t feel scared though, flipped from lying down to standing, small bundle still hanging on his neck.
Took a small step towards the other side of the table, creating some distance.
Sulking.
“I spoke to you via mind voice, you didn’t answer me.” His tone was somewhat stiff.
Bai Xuci had indeed thought about leaving directly, but then thought, all the demons on the mountain left.
Then only Fan Yue was left…
He would be lonely, right?
He planned to clean up the cave, take his personal belongings.
Go down the mountain to wait for him to return.
At least ask clearly.
But the other party came killing over directly, catching Bai Xuci off guard.
And was so fierce.
Fan Yue frowned slightly, seeming to think, but seeing the “snowball” on the table so far from him.
Walked around, approached, stared.
Bai Xuci: “…”
“Then Zunshang, why didn’t you tell me about the Blood Moon? What is that?” Bai Xuci thought about it and asked anyway.
Better to ask the person involved about these things, can’t just believe rumors.
If he really left, wouldn’t there be zero trust?
But after saying this, Bai Xuci realized the problem; Fan Yue didn’t seem to intend to answer him.
Just looking at him.
A bit creepy.
“Not leaving.” Voice somewhat deep, like a question, yet like a statement.
Bai Xuci felt inexplicably scared, wanted to retreat to create some distance.
“Mn mn, not leaving, not leaving.” Answered quickly, planning to stabilize him first.
Fan Yue frowned, not understanding why he was still hiding?
Bai Xuci only retreated a small step, practically nothing, but just because of this.
He was suddenly scooped up.
Hanging on a familiar arm.
“Zun… Zunshang?”
At this moment, a burst of black mist enveloped them; Bai Xuci hurriedly closed his rabbit eyes.
Soon, the cave returned to peace.
Things were packed, cleaned up, and the bundle was taken away.
To some extent, the goal was achieved.
The Main Hall—
Bai Xuci had now turned into human form, leaning against Fan Yue’s chest panting.
Still dizzy.
“Ha…”
Felt a bit like vomiting.
Fan Yue had the small bundle hanging on his hand, arm around the waist of the one in his embrace.
Expression puzzled.
Bai Xuci was really fed up; every time he was transported by this black mist, he would be very dizzy.
Felt like being stuffed into a tumble dryer, spun n times, then thrown to the destination.
Extremely rough.
Bai Xuci’s whole body was limp, feeling not a shred of strength.
Only when he sensed the other’s hand seemed to be placed on his back did he spring away like a startled bird.
Fan Yue’s hand landed on empty air.
“I… I’m better.” Bai Xuci shook his head, raised a hand to press back the ears that popped out.
Somewhat uncomfortable.
Nothing was clarified; better not go further.
Fan Yue’s face turned gloomy.
But just then—
“Eh? Why are there so many more things here?” asking very puzzledly.
