I don’t like your scales CHAPTER 60

Chapter 60: The Death Pact

Upon hearing those words, Bai Xuci’s expression went blank, his eyes filled with confusion.

Dual cultivation? What dual cultivation?

But while he was still in a daze, a shadow had already loomed over him.

Bai Xuci’s eyelashes trembled as his head was forced back.

“Mmph…”

Caught off guard, his lips were pried open in an instant, the invasion reaching deep inside.

He could only make muffled, indistinct sounds.

Bai Xuci was thoroughly awake now. His eyes blinked rapidly as he panicked, trying to push the other man away.

But trapped between Fan Yue’s arms, the space was far too narrow.

He struggled a few times, but it was futile.

His wrists were only gripped tighter.

Bai Xuci was anxious and angry; his eyes widened, misting over with a layer of moisture.

Just then—

The red pupils contracted slightly, then dilated.

His entire body shuddered.

The tip of his tongue had been bitten.

“Haa… ha…” Bai Xuci was finally released. He gasped for air, his face flushed an unnatural shade of red.

The fingertips resting on the tabletop were still trembling involuntarily.

Whether from fright or something else, it was unclear.

“Your mind is wandering,” Fan Yue said. His expression hadn’t changed, but a hint of dissatisfaction laced his tone.

From the moment they started, the other party had been struggling, refusing to even close his eyes.

He didn’t like it.

That was the conclusion he reached.

“You—” Bai Xuci shot his head up, feeling a bellyful of anger, his eyes rimmed red.

“Who wants to dual cultivate with you? Did you even ask for my opinion?”

His tone wasn’t pleasant; every word was an accusation.

Bai Xuci’s eyelashes were soaked. His head drooped, turning away to stare aimlessly at a prayer cushion on the floor.

His fingers twisted together nervously.

I should have left earlier. Why did I stay?

“Then, may we dual cultivate?”

Hearing this, Bai Xuci jerked his head up, furious all over again.

Is this something you just ask casually?

His face turned red from holding back his frustration.

“If we dual cultivate, your cultivation base will rise, and your lifespan will extend significantly,” Fan Yue said, enunciating every word. He actually looked quite focused.

Hearing this, Bai Xuci frowned in irritation.

Cultivation again. Always mentioning cultivation.

“I don’t want to raise my cultivation. I’ll just live for two hundred years and then die, forget it,” Bai Xuci said petulantly, carrying a reckless air of ‘I don’t care anymore.’

His cultivation was low; it’s not like he didn’t know that.

Redness rimmed his eyes as he raised a hand to push the other away…

“You cannot.”

Bai Xuci’s free hand was caught and clamped together with his other wrist.

It felt like he was being handcuffed.

Fan Yue’s gaze turned unusually dark, his tone bordering on irritable.

“Your cultivation must be high.”

Bai Xuci was frightened by the intensity and looked up blankly.

“Why…” he asked weakly.

But Fan Yue just furrowed his brows, seemingly recalling some unpleasant memory.

He stared fixedly at the little creature before him.

His cultivation needs to be raised. He is too weak.

Before Bai Xuci could react, he was lightly tossed upward, landing securely on the man’s arm.

He was carried off directly.

“W-Where are we going?” His voice was filled with panic.

“Dual cultivation.”

Bai Xuci immediately panicked, tugging at his wrists desperately, his voice choked with tears:

“No, no, that’s something only Dao Companions can do. I can’t…”

He isn’t in his right mind right now. What does this count as?

Fan Yue’s steps came to a sudden halt. He looked down with a perplexed gaze.

“We are Dao Companions.”

Bai Xuci’s vision was blurred with tears, the tip of his nose red, his eyelashes wet and clumping together.

“We aren’t.”

“We are,” came the firm reply.

A terrible suspicion suddenly surged in Bai Xuci’s heart. He looked down in shock.

“We formed a Dao Companion Pact,” the deep voice stated calmly.

This sentence was like a giant boulder thrown into a silent pool, kicking up layer upon layer of waves.

As the words fell, Bai Xuci’s pupils shrank violently.

He asked urgently, “We did? When did we do that?!”

Fan Yue’s expression remained unchanged as he continued walking, stroking the back of Bai Xuci’s hand twice.

Bai Xuci: “!!”

He was so angry he couldn’t even cry anymore, plunged into a state of massive shock.

He stared at that cold, handsome face.

He opened his mouth, but didn’t know what to say.

“You have to explain this to me clearly.” His tone was stubborn; mostly, it just sounded angry.

Fan Yue looked at the small creature in his arms and found him exceptionally cute.

Even when angry, he was cute.

“I’m asking you a question!” Bai Xuci forgot his fear, his voice full of vigor. He even forcefully pulled his hand out to wipe his tears.

Then, reflexively, he put his hand back.

He was so angry his brain wasn’t working right…

“That time,” Fan Yue said frankly, having no intention of deceiving him.

Bai Xuci snapped his head up, questioning him word for word: “You told me back then it was a ‘Unity Pact’ (Tongxin Pact).”

He gritted his teeth, his shoulders trembling slightly.

What is this? Does he have no morals?

He tricked me into a pact that early on…

Acting. It was all an act.

“It is.”

Bai Xuci was instantly more furious. “You still admit it?”

His thin chest heaved up and down; he looked fragile enough to snap in half.

Fan Yue watched him entranced, until he was shoved.

“What are you looking at? What’s so good to look at?” Bai Xuci felt like a joke. He couldn’t get a straight answer and had been agonizing over whether the other party simply didn’t understand emotions.

And the result?

A Dao Companion Pact had already been formed.

Hooligan.

Tears slid down disappointingly, leaving wet tracks on his cheeks.

Bai Xuci felt humiliated and raised his hand to wipe them away.

But just then, the tears were wiped away for him.

“Why are you crying?” Fan Yue seemed genuinely puzzled.

“…”

Bai Xuci really wanted to slap him. Why act innocent at a time like this?

But he couldn’t.

After all, he was afraid the man would go berserk and slaughter everyone.

And since there were no other demons on Lin Mountain for him to kill, it would just be him…

“Is it because This Lord lied to you?” The voice was steady, seemingly trying to find the root cause.

Bai Xuci’s eyes filled with water again as he stared straight at him.

He wants an explanation.

Fan Yue looked down at those ruby eyes, wanting to touch them more than once.

Very pretty. Very pretty.

With the mist in them…

Even more beautiful.

“This Lord can apologize.”

Bai Xuci was caught off guard. He didn’t want an apology; he was asking why.

“Why did you form a Dao Companion Pact with me back then? Why didn’t you tell me? Why did you lie to me?” His tone was hurried, thick with grievance.

Fan Yue’s expression was calm as he spoke, seemingly gentle:

“Did you not clamor to hear This Lord’s inner thoughts?”

Hearing this, Bai Xuci was momentarily choked for words. He tried to explain, “But the Unity Pact exists for that!”

“This Lord did not want that one,” he said indifferently.

The air suddenly stagnated…

Bai Xuci suddenly couldn’t speak, nor did he dare to look up anymore.

He instinctively tried to pull his hand back.

But this time, it wasn’t as easy as before.

He was clamped down tight.

He didn’t dare look up.

He didn’t even need to think to know what kind of look was in those eyes.

“Can you stop being angry now?” The voice was still deep, as if suppressing something.

The grip on Bai Xuci’s wrist was not controlled well.

His fingertips turned red.

“Can we dissolve the pact first?” Bai Xuci’s voice was very low, devoid of emotion.

Bai Xuci was completely engulfed in Fan Yue’s shadow, appearing very small.

Head hanging low, it was impossible to tell what he was thinking.

“At least we need to—” Bai Xuci looked up, feeling he should explain.

But he didn’t expect the man to suddenly lean down and press over him.

“Mmph… You listen to me… Nng…”

He fell back onto the bed, tears instantly provoked from his eyes.

Bai Xuci’s wrists hurt from the grip, and the tip of his tongue was bitten several times.

He felt increasingly aggrieved.

His eyes could no longer hold the tears; water tracked down his cheeks…

He didn’t plan to struggle anymore.

He couldn’t move anyway.

Just then—

Bai Xuci gasped for fresh air, like a dying fish finding water, his chest heaving.

He looked pitiful in the extreme.

“Angry again?”

Bai Xuci turned his head to the side, refusing to look.

Refusing to speak.

“But This Lord is also angry.”

Bai Xuci was instantly furious. He closed his eyes, his fingers trembling slightly.

“This Lord hasn’t kissed enough.”

Bai Xuci’s brows began to knit together; he was clearly on the verge of an explosion…

An arm slipped around his thin waist, lifting him up in one go.

He was pulled into an embrace.

Bai Xuci leaned against the other’s shoulder, bewildered, not understanding what tactic this was.

“You look very good when you cry,” the deep voice said.

But it was followed by confusion:

“But seeing it makes This Lord uncomfortable.”

Bai Xuci was suddenly speechless, feeling a blockage in his chest.

“My Lord, I was trying to say just now…” His tone was helpless.

“Dao Companions… that is for people who love each other. You can’t just form it casually. Let’s dissolve it first, and after some time we can—”

Fan Yue’s brows furrowed deeply.

“You do not trust This Lord.”

He reached a conclusion.

Hearing this, Bai Xuci felt that wasn’t right either; he didn’t mean that.

“No—”

“I mean, why don’t we wait a while, at least we should…”

“No matter.”

He was interrupted directly.

Bai Xuci had a face full of question marks, thinking, How did this become ‘no matter’ again?

Is it really okay?

He tried to push the other away to get a look, but in that instant, Bai Xuci suddenly felt a strong stimulation from the location of the original pact.

Instantly, the world spun.

He fell heavily into Fan Yue’s arms, failing to push him away.

“This Lord can simply force a Death Pact instead.”

Bai Xuci was dizzy, but hearing these words through the haze, a wave of terror surged in his heart.

“Are you… crazy?”

His fingers curled, trying to grasp something, desperate to straighten his body.

Bai Xuci’s hand couldn’t find purchase, and was finally held directly by Fan Yue.

Only then did he barely find a point of leverage.

He finally looked up, his eyes red.

“Tell… me, what is a Death Pact—”

“Feverish again?” Fan Yue didn’t answer the question at all.

Bai Xuci felt a splitting headache, his body burning up, anxious and angry.

Hearing this, his eyes slowly scanned the surroundings, seemingly looking for something.

“Medicine… there’s medicine…”

He saw the box on the table; Fu Lin had left it for him.

His voice was hurried, his hand reaching out, trying to grab it.

But Bai Xuci couldn’t reach it. He could only look up at Fan Yue.

“Medicine…”

His vision was dizzy, blurry and indistinct.

“Mmph.” A sound of escaping breath.

It was warm, feverish; he had no strength to struggle.

Bai Xuci frowned, tasting the faint metallic tang of blood. Familiar memories suddenly flooded back.

That pill…

“Haa… the medicine is fine too, use that…” Bai Xuci struggled to extend his arm, trying to signal the other to get it.

That works too, and there’s so much of it.

No need for blood, no need.

“Nng.” He was forcibly turned back.

Unending spiritual energy began to pour into his wrist; he couldn’t avoid it.
