Chapter 04 – Whispers in the Rainstorm (1/2)

Slender fingers lightly fastened the black button at the top of the school uniform.
Completely covering the previously exposed skin.
Shen Yan casually scanned the surrounding crowd and found that Gu Zhuoran was nowhere to be seen.
The youth’s tea-colored eyes narrowed slightly, exuding a charming gleam and sharp aura like some large feline.
“That brat actually dared to run away,” Shen Yan muttered softly.
The sharp ends of his eyebrows tilted up slightly, carrying an innate arrogance, his tone full of disbelief.
This was the Tongkao physical examination. What was that brat planning to do by missing it?
Shen Yan snorted lightly, his full lips pressing together as a chilling intent suddenly leaked from his handsome demeanor.
This brat was getting more and more out of line. He had already presented as an Alpha, yet he was still so unmotivated.
The normally calm and composed youth rarely showed anger over such matters.
Just as he was contemplating how to deal with Gu Zhuoran, he heard someone calling him from behind.
“Banzhang!”
Shen Yan turned to look and saw the class’s Health Committee member running over, completely out of breath.
“Banzhang, this is Gu Zhuoran’s medical examination form… He hasn’t been examined, and I couldn’t find him,” the Health Committee member said anxiously.
Shen Yan frowned slightly, puzzled. “Did you search the whole building?”
“I searched everywhere, he’s not here,” the Health Committee member said awkwardly.
Shen Yan fell silent for a moment before reaching out to take the form. “Understood, I’ll handle it.”
Shen Yan slipped the form into his backpack. The Health Committee member clasped his hands together in profound gratitude, feeling as if he had received a general pardon.
The Health Committee member thought to himself: only Shen Yan could handle a monstrous Xiaoba like Gu Zhuoran. He certainly didn’t have the courage or strength for it.
Who told him to be just a Beta? No matter how strong a Beta was, they were still a vulnerable group in front of an Alpha.
Not to mention that Xiaoba Gu wasn’t an ordinary Alpha at all. He was a top-tier Alpha who had presented when he was thirteen or fourteen.
Rumor had it that when he presented, he had caused a fatality, and several adult Alphas couldn’t even control him, a mere child.
Later, he was forcibly subjected to a year of management before he could return to a normal life.
Since then, he had left everyone in the dust on his path as a Xiaoba, with no one able to rival him.
Even if Xiaoba Gu didn’t release his pheromones, ordinary mortals like them still knew to stay as far away from him as possible.
Shen Yan adjusted his clothes, grabbed his backpack, and walked out the door of the examination room, only to find the rain pouring fiercely outside.
Swish, swish, swish—!
Huge raindrops fell from the sky, smashing into the ground and forming craters. The dark sky looked as if it was about to collapse.
The howling wind wrapped up the rainstorm like countless wet whips, ruthlessly lashing at everything.
The students who had finished their examinations early, even those with umbrellas, were unwilling to head home in such a storm.
The crowd huddled at the building’s entrance, chatting and waiting for the rain to lighten up before leaving.
Shen Yan didn’t bring an umbrella, and without any hesitation, he charged straight into the rainstorm, his agile figure breaking into a run.
“Holy shit, who’s that badass? Running in such heavy rain… without even an umbrella,” someone exclaimed in shock.
“You don’t know, right? That’s how our Banzhang trains his physique. Never mind rain, even if it were raining knives, he would still run home.”
“Exactly, ten years without missing a single day. He runs to and from school four times a day,” another classmate chimed in proudly.
“Damn, when did he present?” someone asked.
“He hasn’t presented yet. But with that physique, he’ll definitely be a top-tier Alpha. He got an S-rank on the physical constitution portion of the exam.”
“Holy crap, S-rank physique. I’m built like an ox, and I only got a B-rank.” The person who spoke was covered in muscles, looking incredibly robust, but his face spelled pure defeat.
As the students’ chatter faded into the distance, Shen Yan quickly ran towards home.
But as he ran, he felt something was off with his body. His steps felt somewhat weak, and his body was a little hot.
Just as he was feeling confused, a faint, muffled groan from the corner past the bakery caught his attention.
He hit the brakes abruptly, pursed his lips, wiped the rainwater from his face, and slowly walked over…
