Chapter 47 part 1

The production team sent out a notice in the early hours of the morning.

[@‘Journey with Little Ones Through Mountains and Rivers’ Official Weibo: Due to scheduling conflicts with our guests, the show will take a five-day break after the island stop. See you at the next location!

Highlight reels will be released periodically during the break. Stay tuned!]

Even though the notice was posted late, online netizens were quick to catch it, and a wave of despair immediately washed over the comments.

—Why the sudden break! I object!

—Don’t they usually just turn off the livestream when they’re traveling between locations? Does this count?

—What scheduling conflict? Is it Jiang Shulu?

—It has to be Jiang Shulu. Wasn’t there a rumor a few days ago that his family is having a birthday banquet?

—So what if Jiang Shulu’s not there? That doesn’t stop the other three.

—Did you guys forget?! Jiang Shulu and Liu Xichao are technically family now. Since they’re engaged, Liu Xichao is his “little aunt.” He’d have to attend something like that, right?

The internet was buzzing with discussions about the news as Tang Yue walked back to his tent in the darkness.

On the way, he happened to run into Liu Xichao talking with Jiang He.

The two were standing in the shadows of the trees, almost invisible at first glance. It was Liu Xichao who called out to him.

“Xiao Yue, what are you still doing wandering around out here?”

Tang Yue still saw Jiang He with the label ‘Main Lead’s Little Uncle’ practically stamped on his forehead.

Seeing them together brought a pang of melancholy, like he’d bet on the wrong horse, but he also felt a sense of relief at this development.

“My sister was here,” Tang Yue explained. “I was just talking with her for a bit.”

“Your sister? The investor?” Liu Xichao asked.

Tang Yue nodded. “Her husband was here too.”

Liu Xichao let out an “oh.” Jiang He had mentioned a few things to him as well, the most important being the sudden banquet.

At first, Jiang He had planned to use his poor health as an excuse to get out of it, but to his surprise, his sister-in-law, Zhu Qiong, had called him personally, hoping he would attend with his partner.

Jiang He hadn’t been on good terms with his family since coming out, and he generally avoided the main family estate unless it was absolutely necessary.

The old man’s birthday banquet was being held here this year, but Jiang He still felt that sending a gift would be enough.

Jiang He didn’t know what Zhu Qiong was planning, but he was also a little tempted to officially show off Liu Xichao again.

Unfortunately, Liu Xichao wasn’t too keen on the idea.

Tang Yue felt like he was being a third wheel and was about to leave.

But then he heard Liu Xichao ask, “Xiao Yue, you…”

Tang Yue turned to look. In the moonlight, the young man’s shadow stretched long, still giving Liu Xichao the feeling that he was untouched by the mortal world.

Liu Xichao sighed, then shook his head. “It’s nothing. Good night.”

Tang Yue nodded.

“It’s getting cold,” Tang Yue said. “Third Brother, you and… Mr. Jiang should probably talk inside your tent. Don’t catch a cold.”

He smiled at Liu Xichao, said his piece, and walked off toward his own tent.

Watching his retreating back, Liu Xichao whispered to Jiang He, “Did you hear that? You’re my sister-in-law.”

Jiang He hummed in agreement. “What were you going to ask him?”

“Your family’s atmosphere is terrible. I don’t want to go.”

“Then you’ll have to beg me.”

“I heard the show is going on a five-day break,” Liu Xichao said. “Is Tang Yue going to the banquet with Miss Liang?”

Jiang He nodded. “He is.”

Liu Xichao’s eyes lit up. “Does Jiang Shulu know?”

“Know what?”

“Tang Yue’s relationship with President Liang.”

“Of course, he knows. We’re business partners, after all. But Shulu probably doesn’t know that Tang Yue is going to the banquet.”

Liu Xichao thought for a moment. “I think Tang Yue will tell him.”

The Tang Yue in Jiang He’s memory was someone who didn’t like to be in the spotlight.

Besides having a nice voice, it was hard to pick out any other defining characteristics.

After seeing how Tang Yue and Jiang Shulu interacted today, Jiang He suddenly found Tang Yue rather interesting.

Jiang He shook his head. “He won’t.”

“No way. You don’t know Tang Yue that well.”

“You all think he needs to be protected,” Jiang He said. “But have you ever considered what kind of person can just cut ties and disappear like that, at his core?”

Liu Xichao was suddenly at a loss for words, thinking back to Tang Yue’s actions during their time in the group.

The kid really could be quite ruthless at times.

But Liu Xichao quickly brushed it off. It’s not my problem. Jiang Shulu, who missed out on all those years with Tang Yue, is the one who should be upset, right?

Still, a question lingered in Liu Xichao’s mind, causing him to stare blankly at Tang Yue in Jiang He’s eyes.

“What is it?” Jiang He asked.

Liu Xichao grabbed Jiang He’s hand, then pushed him away. “I need to talk to Tang Yue.”

“Don’t you two have plenty of time to talk later? Why does it have to be in the middle of the night?”

Liu Xichao sighed. “Do you think we can say whatever we want with all those cameras around during the day?”

He couldn’t resist taking a jab at Jiang Shulu. “I’m not a schemer like Jiang Shulu, who has to tie himself to Tang Yue in front of the whole country.”

“I think he’s pretty insecure too,” Liu Xichao added.

Jiang He didn’t comment. After being pushed away, he took his hands back, then draped his own scarf over Liu Xichao. “Go on, then.”

Liu Xichao stroked his face, then called out to Tang Yue up ahead and jogged to catch up.

Tang Yue was a little confused. He turned to look at Liu Xichao, who was now walking toward him, and in his peripheral vision, he saw Jiang He turn and head back to his tent.

“What is it?”

Liu Xichao slung an arm around his shoulder. “Let’s chat.”

Tang Yue paused. “About your wedding?”

He even smiled, and Liu Xichao pinched his cheek. “That? You might get married before I do.”

Tang Yue was led to a stool by the staff. The two of them sat by a small bonfire.

Liu Xichao shared his scarf, draping it over Tang Yue.

They used to have moments like this when they lived together, sitting on the sofa, wrapped in a blanket, watching movies.

“I won’t be getting married that soon,” Tang Yue said.

“Jiang Shulu has dropped a lot of hints, hasn’t he?”

Tang Yue nodded.

“Can I ask?”

The young man sitting beside him seemed a little more mature than when they had first met.

But Tang Yue just had a natural air of vulnerability that made people want to give him their all.

Liu Xichao considered himself a sharp, calculating person, but in front of Tang Yue, he just wanted to be very, very good to him.

“Ask what?”

After a few seconds, he let out an “oh.” “I gave birth to him.”

Liu Xichao swore under his breath.

Tang Yue pursed his lips, his hands fidgeting with the drawstring of his hoodie, wrapping it around his finger, then unwrapping it, then wrapping it again.

“Right,” Liu Xichao said. “Somehow, that’s not as hard to accept as I thought.”

Tang Yue pursed his lips and asked in a small voice, “When did Third Brother find out?”

He paused. “Did Shulu-ge tell you?”

Even though he knew the two of them weren’t what he had thought, Tang Yue still felt a strange twinge…

He thought: I’m being ridiculous. Why should I be jealous about this?

Tang Yue didn’t realize he was subconsciously furrowing his brow. The next second, Liu Xichao flicked him on the forehead.

Tang Yue let out a small “hiss” and covered his forehead.

“What are you thinking? Why are you still suspicious of me now?” Liu Xichao said.

“He didn’t tell me. That big mouth Yao Lixin did, and he said it wasn’t confirmed.”

After saying that, Liu Xichao sighed and took out his phone to check the time. Tang Yue noticed that his lock screen was a selfie of him and Jiang He.

The two of them under a blanket of snow, sharing an umbrella. A single glance was enough to see the romance.

“I’m really curious,” Liu Xichao said.

He paused. “Xiao Yue, why were you so convinced that Jiang Shulu and I were dating before?”
