Part 2
He flopped back down, nuzzling Jiang Shulu’s chest, appearing as though he was going back to sleep.
Jiang Shulu: “Don’t rub against there.”
Tang Yue: “I’m not. It’s your problem.”
Tang Yue laughed after saying that and reached for his own phone. “I wonder if Little Mie is up yet.”
Jiang Shulu: “It’s eleven o’clock.”
When Tang Yue reached for his phone, he saw the interface on Jiang Shulu’s tablet. Just a glance was enough to catch the keywords.
Career.
Not worth it.
Love brain.
Tang Yue.
Status.
Tang Yue grabbed his phone. No messages from Little Mie.
Possessing the latest version of the Genius Child Phone Watch, Little Mie had absolutely no longing for his biological father.
Tang Yue checked Yao Lixin’s WeChat Moments and found that Tang Mian had gone completely wild playing at the amusement park today. The feed was full of photos of him grinning ear to ear.
Tang Yue: “Little Mie doesn’t miss me at all!”
He rolled over and tumbled off Jiang Shulu’s body. Jiang Shulu took the opportunity to pick up the tablet and check the reply he had written earlier.
Even without Jiang Shulu posting any new Weibo status, this single comment reply had been pushed to the top of the hot comments.
Jiang Shulu’s beds were never very soft. Tang Yue rolled two times away, then rolled back and said, “I still like small beds.”
He added, “Like the kind… we had in the dorms before.”
Jiang Shulu: “Only yours was a small bed.”
Tang Yue sprawled on the bed and huffed, “Back then, the Captain complained my bed was too small.”
Jiang Shulu shook his head. “That was because you invited me to sleep with you.”
Tang Yue almost bounced off the bed. “Impossible! I would absolutely never invite you to sleep with me!”
Jiang Shulu suddenly reached out, covering Tang Yue’s eyes, but pressed his lips against the corner of Tang Yue’s mouth. “Are you sure?”
Years ago, after Tang Yue transferred from the ICU to a regular ward, he made this request when moving into the group dormitory.
Yao Lixin didn’t understand it at all at the time. He thought this working-class kid Tang Yue was just used to hardship—a bed less than a meter wide? You couldn’t even turn over!
But the logistics staff agreed to Tang Yue’s request and swapped in a single bed.
When they first moved in, Jiang Shulu acted like a dorm warden, shouldering the Captain’s responsibility and urging everyone not to stay up late unless necessary.
Yao Lixin would game all night. Liu Xichao liked watching melodramatic Thai dramas, filling the air with incomprehensible chatter.
Tang Yue was the most deceptive. On the surface, he said he was sleeping, but in reality, he was hiding under the covers reading novels.
Jiang Shulu pushed the door open. The room was dark. The quilt on the bed formed a small hill, looking normal at first glance.
But when Jiang Shulu walked softly to the bedside and lifted the quilt for a look…
The teenager inside was curled into a ball, reading a novel.
Whatever he was reading, he suddenly looked up, revealing a face in the nightlight that was an absolute mess of tears.
Jiang Shulu: “…”
Tang Yue was startled and hurriedly tried to hide his phone.
Jiang Shulu: “I saw it. Don’t hide it.”
Tang Yue sat up obediently. The bed was indeed too small, and Tang Yue wasn’t short, so it always looked cramped.
Not to mention he had chosen the smallest room, giving a feeling of being stuffed full as soon as the door opened.
The others occasionally had private clothes to wear out, so they made walk-in closets.
But Tang Yue’s room was piled high with plants and flowers, making one suspect he might start growing ivy on the walls.
Jiang Shulu didn’t even have a place to sit, so he could only stand.
Tang Yue, having been caught red-handed, stammered out, “Captain.”
Jiang Shulu turned on the light and pulled out a tissue to wipe Tang Yue’s tears, but thinking of how scared this person was of him, he changed to handing it over.
While wiping his tears, Tang Yue said, “I’m almost done reading. I-I’ll sleep right after the finale.”
Jiang Shulu’s gaze fell on Tang Yue’s phone screen.
Progress: 47%.
The finale was more than halfway away. It would be dawn by the time he finished.
Jiang Shulu felt a bit helpless. “Can’t you read it tomorrow?”
Tang Yue: “But we have shooting tomorrow, I won’t have time.”
The youngest member loved novels and music. To Jiang Shulu, these hobbies were precious. He used to have them, but they were all snuffed out later.
This time in the boy band, fought for with such effort, seemed incredibly precious. But to say he liked it? Not exactly.
It was just fulfilling a long-held wish.
Or perhaps a futile compensation for someone who had passed away.
Or maybe a test of the Jiang family’s bottom line.
It still made Jiang Shulu toss and turn, afraid he had made the wrong decision.
Jiang Shulu: “If you finish reading, your condition will be bad tomorrow, and Sister Lin will lecture you.”
Tang Yue bit his lip, extremely conflicted.
He sat on the bed hugging his knees. If anyone had pushed the door open at that moment, they would have undoubtedly suspected Jiang Shulu was scolding Tang Yue.
Tang Yue took a deep breath, wondering what went through his mind, and finally handed the phone to Jiang Shulu. “Captain, keep it for me.”
Jiang Shulu laughed. “Don’t go finding a paper book to read later.”
Tang Yue, having his thoughts exposed, felt like dying of shame. Those tear-filled eyes looked at Jiang Shulu, appearing rather pitiful.
Jiang Shulu: “Aren’t you sleepy now?”
Tang Yue: “I want to finish reading.”
Jiang Shulu: “What are you reading? I’ll read it to you. Your conjunctivitis hasn’t healed yet.”
His tone was gentle, but Tang Yue found it even harder to speak. Finally, he shook his head. “Forget it.”
Jiang Shulu didn’t speak.
A few seconds later, Tang Yue looked up slightly and found that the man standing by the bed looked somewhat sorrowful.
Tang Yue wavered again and explained, “Can… can you read something else? What I’m reading is… hard to read aloud.”
Jiang Shulu: “A foreign novel? I heard you read web novels.”
Tang Yue: “It is Chinese… just…”
At the time, Jiang Shulu didn’t think much of it. He thought, What could be wrong with a chapter titled ‘Sweet’? At most, it’s a romance novel.
Tang Yue really didn’t know how to explain, so he closed his eyes and handed the phone over.
Jiang Shulu saw the text on the page.
Tang Yue liked to set the font size small when reading e-books. Under this light, even Jiang Shulu felt his eyes hurt.
Not to mention the screen filled with “Mn… Ah…”
Jiang Shulu: “…”
Content normal boys might watch. Fine. It proves Tang Yue isn’t completely weird.
He comforted Tang Yue: “Nothing to be shy about. Everyone reads this stuff.”
Tang Yue’s ears turned red. In the light of the moon-shaped night lamp, he glanced at Jiang Shulu and asked softly, “Does the Captain read it too?”
Jiang Shulu kept a straight face. “I’ve seen it before.”
Tang Yue: “Then what type does the Captain like?”
He knew Jiang Shulu and Liu Xichao were secretly dating. Actually, he shouldn’t ask this kind of question, but he had a slight tendency toward self-torture and wanted to hear Jiang Shulu say it himself.
Jiang Shulu: “Never thought about it.”
He answered very quickly.
Tang Yue thought: Secret dating, I get it. But this is too secretive.
Don’t boy band members usually cover for each other when dating?
