Part 3
Although the team hadn’t seen Tang Yue for many years, they all knew his habits.
Many of the current singers at Chengkong Media weren’t as diligent as Tang Yue.
When he signed the contract, he brought a huge pile of previous works. He sorted through them in less than a month—his efficiency was terrifying.
Sister Lin opened a livestream account for Tang Yue, telling him to maintain his weekly business appearance just like before.
Tang Yue used to love slacking off during business hours; the once-a-week session was often completed by Tang Mian helping him out. The kid would basically do his homework while the livestream ran.
The school Tang Mian currently attended was a private school selected after Liang Yi and Jiang Shulu discussed it.
This transfer student, who arrived halfway through, progressed so quickly in his studies that he had skyrocketed through the levels and was already stuffed into a prep class.
From bilingual education to multilingual education… every night before bed, he had to read Tang Yue a bedtime story in a different language.
Then the two of them would switch to the common language of Planet 9787, causing Jiang Shulu to sigh and whisper, “Can you not translate for me?”
In the end, he got a double translation. Even when he closed his eyes to sleep, his brain was filled with surround-sound chatter.
Assistant Zhenzhen: “Isn’t Shulu picking him up?”
Tang Yue: “Brother Shulu has something to do this afternoon, he might not be back so soon.”
Jiang Shulu had been very busy lately. Tang Yue often saw his former assistant, Song Chen, coming over.
They said the site selection for the new company was finished, and once everything was finalized, they hoped Tang Yue could go for the ribbon-cutting.
With Tang Yue’s comeback, there were still quite a few people cursing Jiang Shulu online.
Those around them knew Jiang Shulu was up to something; at least Jiang Shulu reported to Tang Yue every day.
Tang Yue didn’t really understand. He only knew it involved restructuring some assets Jiang Shulu had left overseas.
There was also a new company name and project name.
Assistant: “I heard you haven’t driven in a long time. Will you be okay?”
The trending musician put on his coat and shook his head. “It’s fine.”
But the agent was still worried, so the assistant tagged along.
This private kindergarten fed directly into elementary, middle, and high school. The tuition was expensive.
Liang Yi chose it because the price could filter out a portion of people.
Jiang Shulu chose it based on comprehensive considerations.
Plus, Yao Xuanyu went to school here too. Now he was in the same class as the transfer student Tang Mian, so picking up the kids meant picking up two at once.
When Tang Yue arrived to pick up the person today, he was checked several times after registering.
He took off his sunglasses, revealing a face that really looked more like a brother than a father. The guiding teacher was a bit surprised; she hadn’t expected Tang Yue to come.
Jiang Shulu hadn’t had any new news since leaving the Jiang family.
Even when photographed, the content was very domestic.
Either picking up or dropping off Tang Mian at school, or visiting Tang Yue at Chengkong Media.
Or being photographed buying groceries at the supermarket, perfectly interpreting what a “house husband” was, fitting his previous “soft rice” declaration.
Even his solo fans from back in the day were somewhat despairing, shocked that Jiang Shulu actually seemed to enjoy it.
And with these paparazzi angles being so tricky, why did the photos still look so good?! It made people weirdly want to fall in love. It was a bit excessive!
Tang Mian saw Tang Yue. After coming out with the teacher, he skipped and ran toward Tang Yue, his little schoolbag swaying.
“Daddy! How come it’s you!!”
Tang Yue: “He has something to do. Aren’t you happy I came?”
Tang Yue picked Tang Mian up. His recent hairstyle was much more fashionable than during his seclusion, making him stand out even among the crowd of parents.
The parents of the children here were either rich or noble.
Who didn’t know about the Jiang family affairs? Plus, Jiang Shulu had been the one picking up the child recently. Now seeing Tang Yue, their eyes were glued to him, full of curiosity.
There were plenty of scions in wealthy families dating small celebrities, but those who actually got married were few and far between.
Let alone one who left the family for a star.
When stars got together with people like that, they were usually after the family background. Where would the love come from for someone who had lost their halo?
When Jiang Shulu and Tang Yue left together, many people had predicted the downfall of this relationship.
It was just an impulse brought on by reuniting after five years of disappearance and spending day and night together.
Even if it was first love, it was only suitable for memories. Once they really interacted, they would find it was nothing special and eventually part ways.
But these two actually withstood the pressure.
Tang Yue’s career was booming. His new album was about to be released, his hit soundtracks were sweeping major awards, and with the end of the year approaching, he had received quite a few event invitations.
Everyone was expecting this Son of Heaven, who had returned to the music scene, to reach the peak once again.
Tang Mian hugged Tang Yue’s neck and asked, “Where’s Daddy Shulu?”
Tang Yue: “He said he has something very, very important to do today.”
That’s what Jiang Shulu had said when he sent Tang Mian off in the morning and dropped Tang Yue at the company.
He had pressed a kiss to the corner of Tang Yue’s lips and said, “It seems my time living off Xiao Yue is expiring.”
Jiang Shulu hadn’t rested much after the surgery. Instead, Tang Yue was the anxious one, insisting on checking it every day.
Jiang Shulu would be sitting on the sofa reading documents, and Tang Yue would come up from downstairs. Without giving Jiang Shulu any preparation time, his hand would reach out, seemingly intending to pull down the other’s pajama pants to inspect closely.
It made Jiang Shulu almost drop the device in his hand, laughing and crying as he picked Tang Yue up.
Then he would comfort Tang Yue over and over: “It’s fine.”
Tang Yue: “Will this affect it?”
Jiang Shulu grabbed his hand, seemingly enduring something. “Don’t move around.”
Tang Yue: “Am I touching too hard?”
Jiang Shulu: “Wait until this busy period is over, we can go camping.”
Tang Yue’s attention was diverted, listening to Jiang Shulu report about receiving his maternal grandparents and uncle in City S, mentioning interviews, hospital witnesses, and so on.
Basically, Jiang Shulu talked, and Tang Yue nestled in his arms and listened.
Tang Yue didn’t have much to ask; this was Jiang Shulu’s sore point.
The alien couldn’t do much else, but he could accompany Jiang Shulu through every night so he was no longer lonely.
Discarding all the involuntariness, awaiting the day when the willows would darken and the flowers would brighten.
That day should be today.
Tang Mian: “Then is it just the two of us for dinner?”
The assistant couldn’t stand the stares of the surrounding parents. Most were wealthy wives, with few men.
Or perhaps they were butlers and the like, coming to pick up the young masters and misses.
Tang Mian muttered and shared the content of his picture book class with Tang Yue. Along the way, he received greetings from several classmates.
Tang Yue greeted them back.
The children’s compliments were very exaggerated—
“Xiao Mie, your daddy is so good-looking!”
“Tang Mian, where is your Great-Uncle?”
Tang Mian: “My Great-Uncle has to work too.”
Tang Mian: “Well, of course!”
“Tang Mian, how come the dad picking you up today isn’t the usual one? How many dads do you have?”
Tang Mian was very proud: “Two!”
“Where’s your mom?”
The assistant didn’t dare speak. The team still didn’t know where Tang Mian came from.
Jiang Shulu had talked to the manager, and currently, this secret hadn’t been disclosed internally.
Zhenzhen was afraid the child would be unhappy, but she didn’t expect him to shout loudly: “This is my mom!”
The assistant looked at Tang Yue in shock, only to find that the artist-brother she watched grow up didn’t refute it.
Tang Yue simply adjusted Tang Mian’s hat, telling him to stop wiggling, and casually asked, “Have you gained weight recently?”
The child talking to Tang Mian looked at Tang Yue, then at Tang Mian, finding it novel. “Can a mom be a man?”
Tang Mian: “Why can’t they?”
He was so righteous and confident that the assistant felt it made a lot of sense.
Tang Yue stuffed the person into the car. Just as he was about to get in, he saw a man in the parking lot.
The man’s hair was somewhat white, and he looked a bit like Jiang He.
Tang Yue just glanced at him, ignored him, and told the assistant to drive.
While Jiang Kaicheng found Tang Yue here, over there, the newly appointed successor of the Jiang family for just over a month, Jiang Jinan, looked pale as he stared at the man in the seat across from him—the investor for the biggest project.
Party B was an overseas listed company. Previously, agents had been handling the process.
It was only lacking the final signing step.
The investment amount was huge, and they wanted a significant number of shares.
But Jiang Jinan had considered it comprehensively. This might be the most effective means to reverse the Jiang family’s situation.
Perhaps through this cooperation, they could return to the peak. Coupled with help from his fiancée’s side, he could secure his position.
But Jiang Jinan never expected that the CEO of this partner company—which had shown no familiarity from the company itself to the contact person—would be that man he had seen before.
The atmosphere in the conference room was incredibly bizarre.
The team leader of the secretarial group didn’t dare breathe loudly. When entertaining the partner and seeing this familiar face, he felt he couldn’t breathe.
The man was handsome, dressed just as he used to be in the top-floor office of the Jiang Corporation, wearing the same smile as when they met in the past.
Even though Jiang Shulu was smiling like a spring breeze now, he gave all the acquaintances present a terrifying sense of oppression.
Especially the team following him; they were almost all familiar faces.
But previously, the HR group had investigated, and these people were clearly working at different domestic companies. How could they continue to be Jiang Shulu’s subordinates?
At 3:30 PM, Jiang Jinan stepped into the conference room. His personal assistant looked troubled, just about to tell him the news.
The assistant had contact with Jiang Shulu before, but his rank was far from this level.
But mere contact was enough for this assistant to detect the difference between the current boss and the former one.
The difference in business ability was too great; even interviews seemed so degrading now.
Compared to Jiang Jinan, who couldn’t control his shocked expression, Jiang Shulu’s expression was much more relaxed, as if he were the one holding the power of life and death.
Even though he had left the Jiang family, his years of accumulated experience were enough to crush Jiang Jinan.
The projection still displayed the colorful chart made for this signing, but the principal of the signing party had become Jiang Shulu.
Everyone knew this document couldn’t be signed.
But the previous contracts had already gone through; only this final procedural step remained.
Jiang Jinan’s joy of the past month turned into a bubble. He stared at the man across the long table, the word “Cousin” almost squeezed out through his teeth.
Jiang Jinan: “What is the meaning of this?”
Jiang Shulu didn’t look as wretched as Jiang Jinan had imagined, nor did he have anything to do with the leisurely idleness of picking up kids seen online.
He didn’t seem to care about Jiang Jinan’s gnashing teeth and even nodded slightly at him. “Long time no see.”
Besides Jiang Jinan, the original shareholders were present, basically all familiar with Jiang Shulu.
Everyone had worked together for years. It wasn’t that they hadn’t regretted Jiang Shulu’s departure; it was a huge blow to the Jiang family.
Even if he hadn’t fully controlled everything in the Jiang family, he had still reasonably taken away a portion.
The others had no right to say Jiang Shulu didn’t deserve it.
Without Jiang Shulu, the Jiang family wouldn’t have been able to sit securely in this position all these years.
Even when Jiang Shulu went down the boy band route, he still developed a part of the Jiang family business.
Whatever he did, he could do well—just like how he was turning back to bite the Jiang family now.
It created a momentary feeling not of drama, but of inevitability.
As if this fit the decisive and slaughtering nature Jiang Shulu had shown in the business world all these years.
Jiang Shulu smiled and said, “I said before, some things are what I deserve.”
When Jiang Jinan was studying abroad, he had seen financial newspapers with Jiang Shulu’s photo on the street.
The man on them had a distant, cold smile, fitting the nobility of an heir perfectly.
The atmosphere was particularly heavy. Jiang Jinan asked, “Do you really hate the Jiang family that much?”
He paused. “Without the Jiang family, there would be no you today.”
Jiang Shulu glanced at the clock opposite him, his finger tapping on the tabletop.
Three.
Two.
One.
Jiang Jinan’s other assistant knocked on the door, whispering something to Jiang Jinan with a grave expression.
Jiang Shulu’s phone screen on the table also lit up.
Jiang He: He really went to find Tang Yue.
Jiang He: Unfortunately, the police car just arrived too.
At the same time, someone posted a thread online—
