Chapter 47: Ice Spirit Beast
In the moment of danger, Su Muyao hugged Little Snow (Xiao Xue) and turned her body to shield him with her own. Simultaneously, she unleashed her ability. But it was a bit too late! The thing was incredibly fast, striking like a phantom shadow, catching them completely off guard.
Just then, Xiao Jihan moved. His figure was like lightning, an ice blade already coalesced in his hand. The moment the green shadow moved, he swung the ice blade, drawing a sharp arc of light.
Chi…
The green shadow was hit, emitting a piercing screech.
Still hugging Little Snow tightly, Su Muyao looked back and saw green, foul-smelling liquid spraying toward her. In that instant, Xiao Jihan quickly grabbed her and dodged, avoiding the corrosive fluid.
Leaning in Xiao Jihan’s embrace, Su Muyao felt a lingering fear. However, smelling the scent on him, she once again felt a sense of security. She had to admit, Xiao Jihan was truly doing his utmost to protect her.
Looking at the sticky green liquid on the ground, Su Muyao frowned and asked, “What is that thing?” It seemed to be just a green vine. Yet when it attacked, its speed was blistering, carrying a biting killing intent. If her reaction had been half a beat slower, both she and Little Snow would have been in trouble.
Xiao Jihan’s clear eyes held a chilling frost as he explained, “That is a Blood-Devouring Vine. It excels at camouflage and feeds specifically on the blood of beastmen and wild beasts.”
“Just now, it was hiding among the leaves of this tree, but…”
Su Muyao asked, “But what?”
Xiao Jihan lowered his voice. “When we first arrived, I scanned the surroundings. There was no danger, and certainly no Blood-Devouring Vine. It might have come for him!” Xiao Jihan naturally referred to the Little Snow in Su Muyao’s arms.
Su Muyao was slightly surprised. “You mean this vine came specifically for Little Snow and quietly hid in the tree?”
Xiao Jihan looked at the mysterious little beast with a probing, grave, and guarded expression. “His blood is special. Didn’t you smell a peculiar fragrance just now?”
Looking at the little beast again, a faint conjecture formed in Xiao Jihan’s mind. He wasn’t certain yet. But if it were true, Su Muyao couldn’t keep this little beast by her side.
Su Muyao paused. “There is a faint fragrance, very pleasant. Is there something special about it?” She held Little Snow gently, unwilling for any harm to come to him.
Unnoticed by her, the Little Snow in her arms stiffened. In his beautiful eyes, fragments of shimmering light seemed to flash—crystalline and vibrant, as if hiding thousands of stars, elegant and mysterious.
“His blood differs from that of ordinary beastmen; it can drive wild beasts and some creatures into a frenzy.”
“If my guess is correct, he might be the long-lost Ice Spirit Beast.”
“Only an Ice Spirit Beast, grown in an environment of ice and snow gathering the spiritual energy of heaven and earth, possesses such unique blood. His blood is akin to a panacea.”
“However, this kind of beast has long been lost. There are no records of it in the ancient texts of the major families.”
Hearing this, Su Muyao’s expression changed. No wonder.
Sensing the unease of Little Snow in her arms, she reached out and gently stroked his fur. “Don’t be afraid, I won’t hurt you.”
“It’s just… maybe my current abilities aren’t enough to protect you.”
Realizing this, Su Muyao felt a sense of loss. Taking him back might bring danger to him instead. She could barely protect herself, let alone a spirit beast.
An innocent man gets into trouble because of his wealth! She understood this principle well. Many people in the Beast Imperial City still wanted her dead. If he were just an ordinary, pretty beast, no one would pay attention if she brought him back. But he was too special.
Just then, the roar of wild beasts sounded again. The ground seemed to tremble.
Xiao Jihan focused his attention. “Many wild beasts are coming.”
“And they carry killing intent.”
Su Muyao’s face changed, and she prepared for battle.
At that moment, the Little Snow in her arms leaped out agilely, landing on the ground.
Startled, Su Muyao cried out, “Little Snow!”
Little Snow looked back at Su Muyao. For some reason, she seemed to see reluctance in his eyes. But he only looked back at her a few times, his gaze earnest, before quickly disappearing from sight.
Su Muyao anxiously wanted to chase after him.
Xiao Jihan hurriedly grabbed her hand. “Wife Master, he’s gone. You can’t catch up.”
“Running out now might lead you to powerful mutated beasts.”
Su Muyao’s face was full of worry, and she even blamed herself a little. In the apocalypse, the cat she raised had died protecting her. Immersed in that emotion, she felt immense guilt and sadness.
Seeing her mood plummet, Xiao Jihan was at a loss for how to comfort her. He struggled to find the words. “Wife Master, don’t be sad. He will be fine.”
“Ice Spirit Beasts are the most spiritual. It is said they have many spells to protect themselves.”
“You saw how fast he ran just now; his strength shouldn’t be weak.”
Strangely enough, after Little Snow ran off, the commotion disappeared, seemingly heading in the opposite direction. Sensing this, an indescribable feeling welled up in Su Muyao’s heart. She couldn’t help but worry, “Could he really be an Ice Spirit Beast?”
The snow-white, mysterious beast arrived at a location, luring the wild beasts over. Instantly, white mist rose around them.
A moment later, he transformed into human form. With a movement of his fingers, he killed all the frenzied beasts charging at him.
If Su Muyao were here, she would have discovered that this person was none other than Master Xie. Even when killing beasts, his figure remained elegant and noble.
Soon, Xie Yi arrived and found the beasts that had attacked his Master dead.
Xie Yi asked nervously, “Young Master, how is your body?”
“Miss Su said you shouldn’t use your abilities anymore.”
“Leave these ants to me.”
Xie Guixue said indifferently, “It’s fine.” Since seeing her that day and having her aura enter his body, his health had improved significantly. Coupled with the medicine and recuperation, he wasn’t as weak.
Xie Yi was somewhat speechless. “Young Master, really… to see Miss Ye, you didn’t have to use this method.”
“Your blood is so precious; how could you let it spill?”
Thinking of something, Xie Yi added, “But Young Master, didn’t you say you wanted to stay by Miss Su’s side?”
“Why did you come back?”
According to the plan, his Master wouldn’t even have let him follow.
Xie Guixue said coolly, “It would bring her danger.”
Therefore, he couldn’t stay by her side in his beast form.
