Chapter 52: Bewitchment
As Su Muyao finished speaking, a prescription appeared within her dimension.
Glancing at the formula on the paper, she knew exactly what to do.
Since she communicated with the Space System via telepathy, neither Mei Qingchen nor Xiao Jihan had a clue.
Su Muyao then took out a sheet of paper and wrote down the prescription.
“This is the formula. The ingredients aren’t rare; they should be easy to buy.”
“Brew the medicine according to the instructions. Once your mother drinks it, she will wake up, and her health will improve.”
“However, to fully restore her body, she will need a spiritual treasure: the Thousand-Year Xuan Frost Flower.”
Su Muyaoās expression was grave and earnest, her eyes clear and pure.
It made it impossible for Mei Qingchen to doubt her.
Mei Qingchen took the prescription. When he saw the handwriting, his phoenix eyes trembled.
This was her writing?
She used to be an idiot, recognizing only a few simple characters, and her handwriting had been atrociousāworse than a child just starting school.
Yet now, her calligraphy was fresh and graceful, like a blooming orchid, yet possessed a free-spirited elegance. Within that freedom, there was an unconcealable sharpness.
Not only was it beautiful, but it also held a unique spirit.
This astonished Mei Qingchen. Even if a person changed their habits, handwriting was difficult to alter in such a short time.
Su Muyao naturally had no idea what Mei Qingchen was thinking.
She simply noted that his expression looked poor and assumed he was doubting her prescription again.
“If you’re worried, you can have your father ask a Witch Doctor or an Imperial Physician to check it first.”
“Once she takes the medicine, your mother will wake up.”
Just as Su Muyao finished speaking, she suddenly saw Mei Qingchen walking toward her, prescription in hand.
Mei Qingchen’s figure was tall and slender, dressed in black robes, exuding a noble air.
The dark pendant on his forehead added a mysterious aura to him.
However, the air around him was too cold and intimidating.
He approached her, closing the distance, and looked down at her from above.
Su Muyao had no idea what he intended to do and involuntarily stepped back.
“Mei Qingchen, don’t you despise me? Why are you getting so close?”
Su Muyao swallowed hard. She felt that Mei Qingchen suspected she wanted to kill his mother and was harboring murderous intent toward her again.
But why didn’t Xiao Jihan intervene this time?
The reason Xiao Jihan didn’t stop him was that he sensed no killing intent from Mei Qingchen.
He knew Mei Qingchen wouldn’t harm their Wife Master.
Xiao Jihan had also seen the prescription, and upon seeing the handwriting, he too had fallen into deep thought.
Mei Qingchen’s clear, magnificent phoenix eyes locked onto her face. His gaze was dark as he observed her subtle expressions.
In the past, her expression had always been vicious, her face twisted in madness and cruelty; Mei Qingchen hadn’t been willing to spare her a single glance.
Thus, he had never observed her closely.
Only now did he notice the nuanced expressions on her face.
She was apprehensive? Afraid?
Hah!
Since when did she know fear?
Mei Qingchen narrowed his phoenix eyes dangerously, his presence bearing down on her.
“What if I’ve suddenly changed my mind?”
Hearing this, Su Muyao’s pupils dilated, and she looked at Mei Qingchen in terror.
He wouldn’t try to force himself on her, would he?
No… no way, absolutely not.
She came from the apocalypse; she had zero experience with this kind of thing and absolutely no mental preparation.
That wouldn’t do at all.
Su Muyao kept retreating until she hit the corner, her back pressed against the wall with nowhere left to go.
She swallowed, carefully choosing her words to persuade him. “Mei Qingchen, don’t be impulsive.”
“Think about it. I did those terrible things to your Natal Sword, and I provoked your mother into illness. You should hate me. You shouldn’t have anything to do with me. You should be physically repulsed…”
“And looking at my face, you can’t possibly bring yourself to kiss it, right?”
“I know you don’t trust me, but I promise I will heal your Natal Sword. Besides, with the Xuanling Iron, your sword will definitely recover and be even stronger than before.”
“And regarding the prescription, there won’t be any issues. Take it back and have someone check it. Once you use it for your mother, you’ll know it works.”
“I really have no ill intentions.”
Su Muyao wanted to cry but had no tears. She felt like she was being struck by lightning!
Watching Su Muyao’s fearful reaction and hearing her blurt out all these words, the corner of Mei Qingchen’s mouth curled into a playful arc.
“So, these are your true thoughts!”
He lowered his head and whispered teasingly in her ear, “So… who are you, really?”
She truly was different.
If it were the old her, she wouldn’t have dodged when he approached like this; she would have been desperate to cling to him.
Mei Qingchen’s phoenix eyes scrutinized her with an intimidating intensity.
Yet his tone was gentle, laced with a bewitching aura.
It sounded like a lover’s whisper.
If she didn’t know his true nature, Su Muyao might have actually believed he was speaking to her gently, trying to get close.
But in that moment, Su Muyao’s expression changed, a layer of frost coating her eyes. Vigilant and wary, she tried to push him away.
But she found she lacked the strength; Mei Qingchen’s chest was hard as rock.
He looked lean, but he was surprisingly muscular.
She couldn’t move him an inch.
Su Muyao realized only now just how weak she was compared to them.
Killing her would be as easy for them as crushing an ant.
She could only suppress her anger and summon the Space System with her thoughts. “System!”
“Host, it’s fine. He won’t hurt you.”
“He’s a handsome man, though! Host, don’t you find him pleasing to look at?”
Su Muyao was speechless at the System’s words.
“He might be beautiful, but he’s poisonous!”
Mei Qingchen didn’t know Su Muyao was communicating with a system telepathically.
He kept observing her. He could clearly feel her body stiffen the moment he asked that question.
So, she was afraid of being discovered?
Had she been swapped?
Did that sentence hit a nerve?
But if she had been swapped, what was her objective?
Mei Qingchen narrowed his eyes dangerously. His fingers landed on her ear, then traced downwards, seemingly checking for a disguise.
When he reached her collarbone, Mei Qingchen saw a small birthmark that belonged to her original body.
It is her!
She hadn’t changed, nor had she been swapped.
Mei Qingchen squinted his phoenix eyes, clearly finding it somewhat hard to believe.
Su Muyao, however, thought he was going to continue lower.
In a flash, an idea struck her. She stood on her tiptoes and abruptly hugged Mei Qingchen.
Deliberately putting on a coquettish smile, she said, “Isn’t this what you wanted? You should have said so earlier; I’m more than willing!”
Although she lacked experience, she had seen it done before; she could still fake it.
Mei Qingchen snapped back to reality and shoved Su Muyao away violently.
“Just as I thoughtāanother one of your tricks!”
With that, Mei Qingchen took out a clean handkerchief and wiped his hands vigorously before throwing it into the wooden trash bucket in the courtyard.
Then, he took out another clean handkerchief and wiped his neck.
As if utterly disgusted, he threw that handkerchief away too.
A look of revulsion flashed through his eyes.
