Chapter 70: Cold Syndrome
Su Muyao felt that Xiao Jihan took even her casual remarks to heart.
This rattan chair was an example; the chair he wove was exactly as she had imagined. When the sun was bright, leaning back on the lounge chair and basking in the sun would be very comfortable.
Xiao Jihan hadn’t expected that his brief hesitation would cause her to misunderstand.
He knew she wouldn’t drug him.
Xiao Jihan wanted to explain, but he wasn’t good at it. By nature, he was cold and accustomed to internalizing his emotions.
“Thank you!”
Xiao Jihan reached out to take the bread from Su Muyao.
There was no food she made that wasn’t delicious.
Under Su Muyao’s sincere and expectant gaze, he gently took a bite. Even when eating, he was silent, his movements unhurried and elegant.
“Is the texture okay?”
“Mm, very good.”
Sweet but not cloying, rich and mellow.
Su Muyao felt that watching him eat was pleasing to the eye.
She was just about to leave when she suddenly noticed Xiao Jihan’s fingers. “What happened to your fingers? Why are they bleeding?”
Xiao Jihan looked down at his hand, acting indifferent. “It’s nothing!”
This small injury really wasn’t anything. Compared to his past injuries, it was negligible.
Seeing his indifference, Su Muyao grabbed his hand to look.
Although it was a small injury, it was clearly cut by the sharp rattan, and the wound was somewhat deep. It had bled quite a bit. There was a clean cloth beside him, presumably used to wipe the blood.
The bleeding had mostly stopped, but the wound remained, dotted with small beads of blood.
Su Muyao felt a twinge of guilt.
She felt Xiao Jihan had only gotten hurt because he was helping her.
When Xiao Jihan left in the future to return to the Beast Royal City, the things he made for her would stay here, belonging to her.
“You can tell me if you’re hurt. I have a healing ability; I can help stop the bleeding!”
As she spoke, Su Muyao moved her fingers, and her ability flowed into Xiao Jihan’s palm.
Xiao Jihan felt a warm, heated power, feeling like sunlight.
The sensation was too comfortable.
The cold energy sealed within his body seemed to dissipate a little.
Su Muyao focused on healing Xiao Jihan’s wound, using a bit of her ability. This small amount was trivial to her, yet she didn’t know how great an impact it had on Xiao Jihan.
At that moment, Xiao Jihan’s fingers trembled slightly, his body stiffening.
“Done. Look, no more bleeding, and the wound has healed.”
“You should take a break!”
Complex, indistinguishable emotions surged in Xiao Jihan’s heart as he gazed intently at Su Muyao.
He actually found himself craving that sun-like warmth from just now.
“No need to rest.”
Su Muyao felt he was very stubborn, so she pulled him up.
Afraid she would strain herself using force, Xiao Jihan followed her pull and stood up.
They walked until they reached the door of his room.
She remembered that Xiao Jihan once didn’t want her entering his room. He guarded against her as if she were a mutant beast. Although he had said those words to the predecessor, she still remembered.
“I won’t go in. You go in and rest!”
Su Muyao stood far from the door, urging Xiao Jihan inside.
“You look pale. You should really rest more!”
She didn’t know why, but she felt Xiao Jihan’s face was excessively pale. He looked unwell.
She hadn’t carefully examined Xiao Jihan’s body before.
She wondered, could it be that the drug the predecessor gave him the day she transmigrated had damaged his body?
That kind of drug had no antidote, unless one used that method. Or unless Xiao Jihan endured it himself.
Thinking that he might have damaged his health because of this, her expression turned troubled.
Xiao Jihan saw her resistance to entering the room and, thinking of something, moved his lips.
He wanted to say she could actually come in.
But some words were hard to say.
Come in for what? He wouldn’t do anything!
Su Muyao’s train of thought was completely different from Xiao Jihan’s.
She thought that it had been half a month. The inter-city market was in two days. Could the drug’s effects still be lingering?
But it was understandable. Her body also had residual effects from the drug, which sometimes made her feel scorching hot and terribly uncomfortable.
After thinking for a moment, Su Muyao said, “Xiao Jihan, let me check your pulse and see your condition!”
“If there are issues, maybe I can prescribe some medicine.”
If there were residual toxins, she wondered if she could neutralize them. Actually, if her Wood Ability leveled up a few times, her pulse-reading and treatment effects would be stronger.
Xiao Jihan, thinking of the hidden problem in his body, shifted his expression.
He used to think it would never heal. Now, perhaps, it was different.
He spoke in a clear, gentle voice, “Wife-master, come inside to check the pulse.”
Su Muyao was stunned hearing this.
She looked up at Xiao Jihan’s face and found he was serious. There was no joking. Nor was he testing her.
Although she didn’t know why he said that, Su Muyao didn’t want to make him uncomfortable.
She smiled and said, “It’s fine, I can check your pulse standing here.”
Saying that, Su Muyao reached out, took Xiao Jihan’s hand, and checked his pulse directly.
At first, Su Muyao didn’t find any issues. But she felt his pulse was not quite right. Perhaps her ability wasn’t strong enough to detect anything.
Just then, the Space System spoke up: “Host, this is Cold Syndrome that he has had since childhood!”
Su Muyao was startled and communicated with the System via thought: “Cold Syndrome? Isn’t that Cold Poison?”
The Space System replied: “More or less. He has the innate Ice Soul Physique. This constitution is supreme for cultivation; his cultivation speed is faster than normal people. Plus, his ability is Ice. Because he cultivates too fast, his body can’t handle it over time, so cold energy accumulates, forming Cold Syndrome—essentially Cold Poison.”
“He actually suffers greatly from the cold energy.”
“Staying in the Beast Royal City or going to warmer places in the south would alleviate his condition.”
“But he followed the exile to the north, a place even colder. His body can’t take it.”
“When the snow season arrives and the weather becomes severe, his body will be invaded by the cold, causing bone-piercing pain.”
“Right now, the weather is still warm, so he’s better. Plus, he has the Ice Ability, so it’s not easy to detect via pulse.”
Su Muyao was shaken. “So that’s it!”
“This Xiao Jihan is quite capable of enduring.”
The Space System continued: “Actually, the day you transmigrated, the predecessor drugged him, right? That irritated the Cold Syndrome. He was truly tormented that day; his body was on the verge of collapse.”
“But he endured it without saying a word.”
“He also has whip scars. Before, when the predecessor was angry, she used a whip on him.”
“In his room, there is the whip the predecessor left. He wasn’t allowed to throw it away.”
Su Muyao thought of the memories and widened her eyes in shock. She felt as if the hand holding Xiao Jihan’s wrist had been burned. She hurriedly threw his hand aside and covered her face, too ashamed to face him. “Heavens, wouldn’t they fight back?”
