Chapter 89: The Events of the Past
Wen Nanxi looked at Su Muyao with a gaze full of tenderness and pity. “Have you forgotten what my true form is?”
Su Muyao reacted instantly. “You are a Snake Beast!”
Wen Nanxi explained in a clear, gentle voice, “My true form can change size.”
That explained it. He had shrunk himself down to slip in through the crack in the door.
“Wife, I was very worried about you.”
“So, please forgive my uninvited intrusion.”
Wen Nanxi looked at her with such gentle, all-encompassing eyes. Under a gaze as soft as water, she couldn’t bring herself to blame him. Moreover, she knew that Wen Nanxi had always treated her well, being attentive and gentle in every aspect.
She pushed herself up, intending to sit, but Wen Nanxi naturally moved forward and gathered her into his arms.
Su Muyao wanted to pull back and lean against the headboard, but Wen Nanxi wouldn’t let go. He held her lightly, yet in a way that made it impossible for her to break free.
“Wife, don’t pull away, alright?”
“Let me hold you for a while.”
Seeing him reveal such vulnerability caused Su Muyao to pause. Leaning into Wen Nanxiās embrace, she could smell that faint, elegant scent of green bamboo again. It was light and refreshing, as if she were standing in a bamboo forest where a cool breeze rustled the leaves.
After holding her for a moment, Wen Nanxi loosened his grip slightly.
He looked down at her. “Did it hurt a lot?”
Su Muyao was stunned for a second, unsure of what he was referring to.
“The body tempering.”
Su Muyao was surprised. “You knew?”
Wen Nanxi sighed softly, looking at her as if he could do nothing about her stubbornness. “I knew.”
“That method is heaven-defying, and it is also excruciatingly painful.”
As he spoke, Wen Nanxi took out a clean handkerchief and gently wiped the fine beads of sweat from Su Muyaoās forehead.
“It must have hurt terribly.”
“I wish I could have borne it for you.”
She is truly ruthless with herself.
Su Muyao did feel pain, but for some reason, being held by Wen Nanxi now made her feel much better. It was a wondrous sensation. The aura radiating from him was warm and gentle, like a spring breeze. His gaze was picturesque, soft as flowing moonlight.
Su Muyaoās heart stirred. “Actually, it was okay.”
Wen Nanxi caressed her brows and eyes with pity. “Silly girl.”
“I know itās because I didn’t protect you well.”
“You want to become stronger. I know there is a way to do that without using such a painful method.”
Su Muyao was stunned and asked reflexively, “What other way is there?”
Wen Nanxi held her waist, lowered his head, and let his lips fall gently. First, they landed on her beautiful, moving eyelashes. His movements were incredibly soft.
As Wen Nanxi drew closer, he carefully observed her reaction. If she showed any resistance or discomfort, he would stop immediately. The events of this morning had left him feeling extremely wretched as well.
Su Muyaoās feather-like lashes trembled, fluttering like butterfly wings. It felt as though they were brushing against Wen Nanxiās heartstrings, causing them to vibrate intensely.
He knew how sweet she was. Holding her now, he couldn’t help but tighten his arms around her bit by bit. His warm lips gradually moved down to land on hers, his breath entangling with hers.
Her scent was truly too sweet. Once tasted, merely getting close made it hard to exercise restraint. He wanted to greedily take more.
Su Muyaoās body trembled slightly.
Between their murmurs, Wen Nanxiās voice was husky. “This way.”
He remembered that time with Hua Linyeāher ability had instantly leveled up to Level 1. He guessed that this method could upgrade her powers.
Wen Nanxi pulled back slightly, his gaze locking onto her face, his thumb rubbing against her lips. “Is that right?”
At this moment, the Space System wanted to cry but had no tears. “This is the second kiss, not the first, so you can’t level up from this!”
“But it is somewhat useful. It can soothe the lingering pain from the Host’s body tempering.”
Su Muyaoās cheeks flushed red, and she didn’t know what to say. No wonder they said Wen Nanxiās wisdom was demon-like; he guessed everything at a glance.
Leaning into Wen Nanxiās embrace, Su Muyao felt her entire body go soft, her lips tingling as if electrified. She pursed her lips and asked, “Wen Nanxi, are you really not leaving?”
“Mm. I’m not leaving.”
Su Muyao fell silent for a moment, seeming to have something to ask.
Wen Nanxi knew what she was thinking just by looking at her eyes. Su Muyao probably didn’t realize how beautiful and expressive her eyes were; with a tremble of her lashes, her emotions were laid bare.
He smiled gently. “Wife, is there something you wish to ask?”
“If I ask, will you tell me?”
Wen Nanxi spoke warmly, “Yes. As long as it is the Wife asking, I will tell you everything.”
He remembered what she had said to Hua Linye when he entered her room. He thought he should give her enough trust and security. He looked at her with encouraging eyes, urging her to voice the doubts in her heart.
Su Muyao asked in a low voice, “Why did you come to the Su family in the beginning?”
“Why did you agree to become my beast husband?”
“Earlier in the courtyard, Mei Qingchen said you are of the Ancient Heavenly Snake lineage. Although I don’t fully understand it, that sounds very powerful.”
“You shouldn’t have needed to come to the Su family.”
Why would such a powerful person agree to be her husband?
Wait, back then it was the original host.
The original host was so atrocious, yet Wen Nanxi protected her when needed, though he avoided contact and rarely spoke. He always maintained a polite, distant demeanor. She was simply puzzled.
Wen Nanxi wasn’t surprised by her questions. He sighed lightly and explained, “Two years ago, when I woke up, I was in a bamboo forest. I was heavily injured and bleeding profusely, which attracted a large number of mutant beasts.”
“That was when your father appeared and saved me.”
“I had no memories of my past then, but I knew I had to repay the kindness. Your father brought me back to the Su family.”
“He said his daughter was sick and her personality had changed drastically, becoming completely different from when she was a child. He asked me to be his daughter’s husband, to protect her body and ensure she didn’t get hurt.”
“We agreed on a three-year term. He said that after three years, his daughterās illness would be cured, and my debt of gratitude would be paid. I could leave whenever I wanted.”
Hearing this, Su Muyao was shaken.
What did that mean?
Family Head Su said this body was sick and her temperament had changed?
A three-year term… Wen Nanxi has been at the Su family for two and a half years now.
She recalled what the Space System had told her beforeāthat this body was hers to begin with.
“System, you said before that this body was mine all along. What exactly happened?”
The Space System replied, “I faintly sensed that the Host originally belonged to this world, and this body was yours.”
“But someone maliciously tampered with it, forcing your soul to leave this body and go to the apocalypse world.”
“Most likely, a malicious soul was planted in this body to ruin your reputation, harm you, and hurt the beast husbands that should have belonged to you.”
“However, that malicious soul was completely destroyed by the Heavenly Tribulation lightning earlier. The Host has returned and fully merged with this body.”
“Host, you don’t need to worry about any physical issues.”
“When you just transmigrated back, didn’t you feel no discomfort at all, as if you fit this body perfectly?”
