Chapter 8: Being a Monster is Great!
“Be good, open your mouth.”
“Awoo!”
A strange scene was playing out in the medical room. The two Fierce Beasts, who had been at each other’s throats earlier, had suddenly taken on the roles of babysitters feeding a cub, much to everyone’s amazement.
It happened like this.
Li Heng wanted to take the cub away, but Shen Zeyu blocked him without yielding an inch. How could his own brother be raised by an outsider?! Even if the Shen family’s situation in the Federation was difficult, they had more than enough to raise a cub.
Seeing the two Fierce Beasts about to fight again, and realizing that if their bloodline beastification continued to run wild, not only would this starship be destroyed, but it would eventually endanger the entire space station.
The adjutant and the Captain of the Guard wanted to see if there was anything suitable for the cub to eat at the space station, but as soon as they got off the ship… good heavens! As far as the eye could see, there were beastmen who had been so terrified by the aura of their Emperor and Major General Shen that they had revealed their original forms and were huddled on the ground, shivering.
After a walk around, the results were very unsatisfactory. The things suitable for a cub to eat were even worse than what the adjutant had brought temporarily. The two of them returned dejectedly, cursing under their breaths.
The healer returned to his beastman form and took the eggshell, which had been crushed into powder by Shen Zeyu’s bare hands, to mix the milk powder. The shell the Young Master hatched from was indestructible; ordinary machines couldn’t break it. The medical room had no choice but to seek Major General Shen’s help.
Li Heng had wanted to help, but he was holding the cub with both hands and couldn’t spare one. He could only yield this opportunity to gain the cub’s favor. While he had missed the first opportunity, he wouldn’t let the second one go no matter what.
When a bowl of fragrant beast milk was brought over, Li Heng seized the chance. He held the cub with one hand and, with movements as fast as lightning, reached for the spoon. Coincidentally, Shen Zeyu had also reached for the bowl and was about to take the spoon, only for Li Heng to snatch it away.
The frost that had just melted solidified once more. The battle for the cub was playing out again. Both wanted to be the first to feed the cub. But one had snatched the bowl, and the other had snatched the spoon; they almost started a fight.
Shen Lin, who had just hatched and was still in a state of “Who am I? Where am I?”, smelled an inviting fragrance, and his stomach immediately let out a hungry “gurgle.” Looking at that bowl of white, thick liquid, he couldn’t help but drool. It wasn’t that the cub was greedy, but rather that he had stayed in the eggshell for too long. Furthermore, after the egg liquid was sucked dry, he had been hungry for as long as he had been asleep. He hadn’t eaten in a long time.
Now that a bowl with such a fragrance was right in front of him, how could he not be hungry? Shen Lin felt he could eat a whole cow right now; his eyes were practically glowing green. Yet, Li Heng and Shen Zeyu were still arguing over who got the chance to feed the cub.
Shen Lin: No, you guys look at me! This child’s drool is practically three thousand feet long!
Shen Lin was so hungry his heart felt like it was being scratched, yet the food wouldn’t enter his mouth.
“Ying—!”
The anxious child burst into tears. They were bullying him because he had just hatched and couldn’t talk yet. Otherwise, he could have cursed them for half a day without repeating himself.
Hearing the cub’s whimpering, the two who were at loggerheads finally remembered who the rightful owner of this beast milk was. Thus, the two Fierce Beasts, neither of whom was willing to let go, chose a compromise. They both held spoons to feed the cub at the same time.
As an S-grade powerhouse among beastmen, Shen Zeyu’s hands were weapons meant to slit an enemy’s throat. He had never before, like today, picked up a spoon, scooped up a mouthful of beast milk, and carefully and steadily delivered it into a cub’s mouth. This was harder than a mission!
Li Heng, the former Crown Prince and current Ikaruosi Emperor, was the same. Born as the Crown Prince, his food, clothing, and lifestyle were luxurious beyond imagination, except for the King. He had never personally taken care of anyone, let alone personally fed a newborn cub. He withdrew all his aggressive spiritual power, beads of sweat faintly appearing on his forehead, his gaze focused intently on the cub eating.
Sang Hu, watching from the side, was filled with emotion. One must know that the late King, the little Emperor’s father, hadn’t even received a direct look from his son despite giving him mountains of gold and silver.
Shen Lin had only recently hatched, and his spine hadn’t fully developed yet; his whole body was soft and limp. But he was desperate to see his surroundings, so he used his two paws to grip Li Heng’s and his big brother’s thumbs as support.
The cub, whose eyes hadn’t yet fully lost their white film, tried hard to open his damp eyes to observe the new world. He was curious! The two people who had broken into the nest and turned from humans to monsters were still fresh in his memory; he was truly too curious about this new world.
When he saw people with hands turned into wings and bird beaks (the healer), people with a pair of fanned-out ears like antennas (the adjutant), and people with a human body but a tiger’s head (the Captain of the Guard)… This world was truly… fantastic!
Shen Lin was very happy; he had really become a monster just like his Monster Baba! Those people calling him a little monster weren’t wrong. As much as he had resented that name before, he was that happy now. Being a monster was great!
Shen Lin happily opened his mouth and took a “awoo” bite of a spoonful of milk handed over by his cheap big brother. In his excitement, he lost control of his body and fell backward. He happened to fall right into the palms of their hands. The cub wanted to sit up on his own, but the two feeders had already automatically cupped their hands behind the cub to prevent him from getting injured again. The two were protecting him subconsciously, but the cub didn’t notice the strange sensation behind him; he was currently in a state of selfless excitement.
The green bracelet on the cub’s wrist felt the cub’s emotions, and its color became increasingly deep. No one noticed a strange energy brushing over their heads, smoothing out the messy mental seas in their brains.
In the past, when so many beastmen were influenced by an S-grade Fierce Beast, it would cause great emotional fluctuations, and they would occasionally lose control of the natural ferocity of a wild beast. Among the many Fierce Beasts, the healer—who possessed the relatively gentle Great Egret bloodline—keenly caught this imperceptible, weak energy.
He was incredibly shocked. He scanned his surroundings, desperately trying to find where this strange energy came from. He instinctively looked at the newly hatched cub… until he met the gazes of the two Fierce Beasts. His feathers bristled, and his scalp felt numb. Receiving warning looks, the healer directly turned into a snow-white egret and, flapping his wings, flew out of the medical room.
Shen Lin had once again witnessed the diversity of humans turning into monsters in this world. The cub’s gaze uncontrollably followed the healer’s back. The trace of energy belonging to him was quickly retracted, so when the keen Li Heng and Shen Zeyu tried to feel it carefully, they found nothing.
As top-tier Fierce Beasts among beastmen, they didn’t think their senses were wrong. Their gazes collided before turning back to the little cub simultaneously. The little cub was completely unaware of the strangeness between the two; he was excitedly taking a bite here and another bite there, making sure to favor both sides equally.
The energy fluctuation came and went quickly. Shen Zeyu tried to feel it several times but never again felt that energy that made every pore in his body relax. He began to re-evaluate his newly-born brother.
With confusion in his heart, the always decisive Major General Shen decisively picked up the cub and called for the healer to help him do a test. The healer, who had been scared away by the aura of the two Fierce Beasts, hadn’t recovered yet when he was found by the adjutant to assist with the cub’s test.
The starship had complete medical facilities. In a corner, there was a testing machine that could detect what beastform bloodline a beastman had awakened and at what grade. The healer stabilized his emotions and started the test. The result, however, was a shock to everyone present.
[Race: Bear (Rare Pink Red Panda)] [Bloodline Beastification: 0] [Combat Power: A red panda pounce, adorable enough to kill you???]
…
Seeing the continuously refreshing data on the testing machine, it showed that this cub’s bloodline beastification was a big fat zero. Furthermore, his combat power was incredibly weak, even more fragile than a herbivorous beastman cub.
This… a Fierce Beast?
The adjutant felt like the sky was falling!
