Chapter 29: Instructor Yu, You Are His Idol!
In the early morning, dew on the grass refracted sunlight, and the calls of bulbuls came from the woods. Deep in the magnificent and beautiful villa, sat an isolation house with walls of iron and copper.
The interior was carpeted with soundproofing. The walls were composite steel, and the doors and windows were airtight.
Curtains blocked the light. Empty bottles of nutrient agents and suppressants were scattered on the floor. Shocking bloodstains stained the carpet, looking like the aftermath of a fierce battle.
Xie Ren leaned against the headboard, wearing a suppression collar around his neck. He looked somewhat wretched.
His arms were covered in torn wounds and bite marks. Wood chips from the broken bed leg stuck to his forehead. Blood filaments filled all ten fingernails. The scent of Peppermint Wine in the room was full of murderous intent, and thick hostility hibernated in his eyes.
Separated by a wall in the monitoring room, Xie Chengfeng stared tightly at the large screen. Beside him stood Zhang Huan, hands at his sides.
“His drug resistance is increasing year by year. If this continues, he might become uncontrollable.” Zhang Huan’s tone was slightly uneasy. “These few days are an excellent time for training. If you want to achieve better results, you can transfer another batch of S-class Alphas over.”
Wait, three generations of his family had served the Xie family, honing a tone of calmness amidst chaos, as if accustomed to this situation.
Alphas in susceptibility period had terrifying explosive power. This outburst could transform into lust, appetite, destructive desire, and… bloodlust.
The reason S+ Alphas were at the top of the food chain was because of the innate bloodthirsty instinct in their bodies.
After long-term socialization, this bloodthirst became a passive desire. Only by deliberate training during the susceptibility period could instincts be triggered step by step, thereby further increasing combat power.
Since Xie Ren’s first susceptibility period, he had been undergoing professional training. His combat power had already surpassed 99% of S+ Alphas.
Xie Chengfeng observed his eyes carefully and asked, “How is his consciousness now?”
Zhang Huan said, “80% of the time in a chaotic state. 15% higher than the last susceptibility period. I think it’s because of the forced entry. That Omega gave him a huge stimulus, which was outside our expectations.”
“But there are good aspects too. His average speed increased by 6%, muscle strength by 3%, reaction time by 2%. Those few whose necks he snapped just now were all past champions of ‘Wild Bull’. The Young Master finished them all within five minutes.”
Wild Bull was a well-known underground fighting arena in Zone 7. Any contestant could rank globally. It was a favorite place for the rich and officials to place bets.
Xie Chengfeng revealed a satisfied smile. “Very good. Not in vain of my painstaking efforts all these years.”
Zhang Huan asked, “Continue injecting strengthening agents?”
Xie Chengfeng shook his head. “He is my son, not a real test subject. Maintain 24-hour observation. If he can’t hold on, send a few high-rank Omegas in.”
“We sent ones with high compatibility last time. He refused to touch them, knocked the Omega out and threw them out.”
Xie Chengfeng sneered. “This kid is tough in every aspect, but his personality takes after his mother. Always has strange mysophobia, refusing this and that. An adult Alpha, actually single until now. I’m afraid people will laugh if word gets out.”
Zhang Huan remained silent. Xie Chengfeng said, “Didn’t you go to NDU? What about Yu Shi’s pheromones? Inject him with some.”
Zhang Huan said helplessly, “That school doctor watched tight. I only got 1% for testing. Too little. By the way, this report is quite surprising. Take a look.”
He handed the compatibility report to Xie Chengfeng. The data at the bottom was an astonishing 99.99%. This was a complete, unique match; a second pair couldn’t be found on the entire Blue Star.
Xie Chengfeng frowned, looking at the report with a complex expression. “Do you think this is normal?”
“Abnormal. I haven’t figured out why either.” Zhang Huan shook his head. “The only possibility is that Yu Shi also received catalyst injections, causing his pheromones to change… But the probability of becoming so compatible after the change is low enough to be impossible.”
A knock sounded at the door outside. The guard said, “Marshal, the Old Chief is here. He wants to see you in the drawing room.”
Xie Chengfeng instantly became impatient. “Why did he come? Who told him?”
No one dared to speak. He said to Zhang Huan, “Watch closely. Tell me anytime if there’s a situation.”
Xie Chengfeng took a car back to the main house. The drawing room was solemn; everyone stood holding their breath.
Xie Junyan sat in a wheelchair, surrounded by a circle of medical staff. An IV bottle hung above his arm. His face looked full of vitality.
“Dad, you’re here. I was handling government affairs just now and couldn’t meet you in time.” Xie Chengfeng strode in.
As soon as he finished speaking, the IV bottle flew past his cheek. Glass shards exploded instantly, cutting a bloody scratch on his face. The crowd let out panicked cries.
Xie Junyan’s aim was true. If the glass shard had been a bit off, it would have cut his throat.
Losing face in front of everyone, Xie Chengfeng’s expression became extremely ugly. He pursed his lips and said nothing.
Everyone was in a panic, yet no one dared step forward to stop it. They all stood like wooden puppets.
Xie Junyan scolded furiously, “Bastard thing, do you still have me in your eyes? Where have you hidden Xie Ren?”
Xie Chengfeng suppressed his anger. “Dad, don’t get excited. Mind your health. He’s fine, resting in the isolation room.”
“Bullshit! Do you think I don’t know what you did? What about that truckload of Alphas carried away? You ah, you are truly too eager for quick success. So cruel to your own son.”
Xie Junyan turned his head and said, “Xie An, go get him.”
The secret guard responded.
Xie Chengfeng stopped him immediately. “No. Dad, he can’t be moved right now. His territorial awareness is several times that of an S-rank. Rashly changing the environment will only trigger greater aggression. If you want him to get better quickly, you might as well ask your old subordinate Yu Songwei for that Omega’s pheromones.”
“How do you have the face to say that?!” Xie Junyan was shocked and angry. Xie An hurriedly patted his back lightly.
He closed his eyes and fumed, “I spent half my life in the military, surprisingly gave birth to a heartless thing like you! Ah Feng, after so many years, you still can’t compare to Ah Quan’s magnanimity.”
Xie Chengfeng clenched his fists fiercely, revealing a trace of ferocity, which he quickly covered up. He fake-smiled, “Dad, why drag in that outsider? I’m doing this for the child’s own good.”
The drawing room was swords drawn and bows bent; a tense atmosphere ready to snap.
Inside the isolation room, Xie Ren gradually woke up.
He had been in a consciousness disconnect for the past two days, often falling into madness and losing memory. Waking up to see the blood on the walls and floor, it wasn’t hard to guess the same thing had happened again.
Since coming of age, his susceptibility periods had become more manic each time. Because he repeatedly injured people by mistake, he had to spend them in the isolation room.
This time, it seemed particularly crazy.
The wounds on his body weren’t serious; for a high-rank Alpha, they didn’t even count as flesh wounds. He just felt somewhat dispirited.
The communicator with the shattered screen in the corner lit up. He opened it and saw a message from Zhao Yi.
[Zhao Yi: Brother Ren, still alive?]
Scrolling up, there was a video from two days ago. In the video, Tang Tianhao was kneeling at Yu Shi’s door, a sign hanging around his neck reading “Instructor Yu, please forgive me.” He looked ashen and dejected, causing passing staff to whisper.
Xie Ren coughed a few times. His throat was as dry as if he had swallowed sand. He held down the voice message button and said, “I’m fine. Did Yu Shi say anything?”
A few seconds later, a voice message came back: “Holy shit, how did you get a vocal fry? Kinda sexy actually. Instructor Yu told him to go wail somewhere else so he wouldn’t trip passersby. He moved to another office that day. Principal Tang even came over to ask what was going on.”
“Did you help me supplement the leave request with Yu Shi?”
“Don’t worry, did it long ago.”
“He didn’t ask anything?”
“No. Just approved it directly.”
Xie Ren remained silent. His mouth grew bitterer, and his chest felt sour and swollen.
Yu Shi hadn’t asked a single word about his condition.
Zhao Yi said carelessly, “Good that you’re okay. Susceptibility period isn’t a big deal anyway. Later I’ll ask 9527 to bring two cartons of milk to see you. Eh, gotta go, Little Xu is calling me to get a package.”
…True. Susceptibility period wasn’t a big deal; didn’t need others asking after his well-being.
He had experienced worse injuries. Even when several holes were blown in his abdomen and he lay struggling in the yellow sand, he hadn’t felt sad.
For some reason, looking at Yu Shi’s avatar, he felt a bit stifled.
After zoning out for a long time, he couldn’t help sending him a message.
Yu Shi received a StarChat notification. Opening it, he saw a sticker.
A Samoyed wagging its tail back and forth on the screen, revealing a bored and pitiful expression, looking wronged by its owner’s neglect.
He didn’t reply immediately, closing the chat box to continue working.
That night reminded him constantly: if he got too close to Xie Ren, it would inevitably attract the attention of people from all sides. These people harbored different goals, making the things he wanted to hide precarious.
The high compatibility between Xie Ren and him had made K9 and the medical community start paying attention. The whole thing had become dangerous.
Once his pheromones were taken for research, it would be eternal damnation.
Like walking a tightrope on a cliff; a moment of carelessness would mean shattering to pieces.
Until the sun went down, Yu Shi didn’t open StarChat again. Near the end of the workday, Zhao Yi came to find him, placing an exercise booklet on the desk.
“Instructor Yu, this is the homework Xie Ren asked me to give you. It was too chaotic that day, and I forgot. Sorry about that,” he said.
Yu Shi glanced at the now-useless exercise booklet. Opening it casually, he saw marks on every page. The handwriting was neat, demonstrating the other party’s seriousness.
He couldn’t help frowning slightly.
Zhao Yi thought he was dissatisfied and said smartly, “He might have written it in a rush. As far as I know, he is particularly interested in your projects. In his freshman year, he specifically chose the Particle Beam Weapons course just to understand your papers.”
“Freshman?” Yu Shi was stunned.
“Yeah. Although he won’t admit it verbally, I guess…” Zhao Yi looked mysterious. “Instructor Yu, you are his idol! I only found out recently that his undergraduate thesis cited a lot of your literature. His bookshelf has a complete set of your works. Most importantly—”
He took out his communicator, muttering, “Let me show you something. Don’t say I said it.”
He flipped through his album for a while and held a photo up to Yu Shi. “Here. This is the big screen he specifically went to photograph the day of your livestream.”
The photo location was Zhongxing Road. The big screen showed the awards scene at Xinghai Lecture Hall. Yu Shi wore a white lab coat and a light blue shirt, holding a medal and smiling at the camera.
The massive screen magnified his face, making his features picturesque, lips red and teeth white.
On the side closer to the lens was Xie Ren’s upper body silhouette. He stood with his back to the camera looking at the big screen, facial expression invisible.
A corner of Yu Shi’s heart quietly loosened. He stared at the screen for a long time.
Usually arrogant as heaven, the Alpha would actually do something as childish as checking in at a big screen.
Zhao Yi continued, “Back in Zone 9 when there was no internet, he saved a lot of your classes on his optical computer. He’s basically watched all your public speeches. Oh right, he secretly bought you flowers too. I saw it last time when I asked him for the florist discount, hehe.”
Flowers?
Yu Shi remembered. Almost every time after a speech or award ceremony, he would receive a large bouquet of roses.
At first, he thought friends or students sent them. Later, no one claimed them. Xu Bohan said they were probably sent by “fans.” He didn’t expect this “fan” was Xie Ren.
“Actually, he respects you very much in his heart. He didn’t mean to fool you. Just be understanding; after all, the time given for this homework was too short.” Zhao Yi looked sincere, his brain full of homework.
Yu Shi was quiet for a moment. “Got it. You can go.”
“Then you won’t deduct his participation points?”
“…No.”
“Great! Instructor Yu, you’re such a good person. I’m leaving!”
Yu Shi opened the chat box. That Samoyed was still wagging its tail pitifully, staring at him eagerly with big watery eyes.
A student who respects him very much.
In this day and age, students who respect teachers and value the way are almost extinct.
He sighed faintly, seeming to compromise.
9 PM, street corner coffee shop. Guests were sparse.
Zhang Huan sized up the Omega sitting opposite, observing his actions carefully.
Different from when they met a few days ago, Yu Shi had returned to normal. His appearance was slightly too beautiful, not quite fitting the image of a researcher. His demeanor was calm and steady; one could tell he came from an excellent background.
This is an Omega with little threat, he evaluated in his heart.
“Dean Zhang, I’m sorry to call you out so late,” Yu Shi began.
“It’s okay. I just finished a surgery and happened to be nearby.” Zhang Huan spoke kindly. “Speak your mind.”
Yu Shi pushed the freezing box near his hand across. “I know Xie Ren’s condition isn’t good, so I prepared something for him.”
Zhang Huan froze, then reacted. His pupils constricted abruptly, staring straight at the pheromones in the box.
Yu Shi opened the lid. On the velvet cushion lay collection tubes filled with silver liquid. Through the glass, tiny rising bubbles were visible, flowing slowly like a galactic star belt.
This color was even rarer than “Golden Pheromones.”
He watched unblinkingly, staring at that box of Blue Star’s unique pheromones. Intense curiosity and fanaticism burst from his eyes, instantly turning him back into the novice lad who had just touched medicine.
“Such a precious gift. My god, this is simply a miracle of the Creator. Too beautiful.” He murmured, reaching out his hand.
Yu Shi hooked his finger and took the box back.
Zhang Huan looked up at him. “…You are?”
“I don’t recall saying I’d let you ‘pass it on’.” Yu Shi said flatly. “My pheromones do not go through other hands. Take me to see him. I want to watch the pheromones being injected into his body with my own eyes.”
