I Said It Was a Catfish Photo ABO Chapter 9

Chapter 9: I Must Be the “History” in Our Family History…

Xu Ze lectured for most of the class. Yu Shi maintained an indifferent expression throughout, only occasionally nodding or shaking his head.

This made Xu Ze’s heart pound anxiously, sweating buckets by the end.

Finally, Xu Ze put down the gun and asked, “Instructor Yu, I… did I do okay?”

Unexpectedly, Yu Shi nodded. “Pretty good. Go back to your seat.”

Just as Xu Ze was about to leave, he was called back.

“Put the gun back.”

Xu Ze quickly said, “Oh, I—I usually put weapons away properly after demonstrations. I never leave them lying around. I strictly abide by the ‘Firearm Storage Regulations’!”

Every word dripped with a thirst for points.

Yu Shi clasped his hands behind his back, pressing down on his constantly vibrating wristband, and said casually, “Very good habit. Two points added to your daily score.”

“Thank you, Instructor Yu!” Xu Ze’s eyes lit up with excitement.

“Hmph, bootlicker,” Zhao Yi whispered cattily. “Is that necessary? It’s just two points.”

“Speaking of which, how many points for extra homework?”

He looked at Xie Ren, only to find he wasn’t listening at all.

Xie Ren was sketching on his optical computer. As the stylus made the final stroke, Zhao Yi leaned over to look and found it was a disassembly diagram of the pheromone rifle.

“Brother Ren, why are you drawing this?” he asked in confusion.

Xie Ren clicked save and twirled the pen. “Just doodling.”

“Did you hear what he said just now? Han Po is coming back for the exam this weekend. Brother Li will probably find an excuse to take leave again. Say, do you think surnamed Han will switch bullying targets and go after Instructor Yu?”

The pen between Xie Ren’s fingers stopped. Han Po’s father was a Lieutenant General in K9, his grandfather had served in the “Heaven’s Punishment” Air Force unit, and his ancestors were all prominent figures.

On the first day of freshman year, three military vehicles cleared the way to deliver him to school. In his years at the school, he had been domineering and arrogant.

Han Po had bullied most of his classmates and teachers, often giving teachers attitude in class. Yet, the only person he hadn’t provoked was Xie Ren. Some said he was afraid of offending the Falcon Regiment; others said he didn’t dare provoke a ruthless character who risked his life.

Xie Ren didn’t say anything, just let out a huff through his nose.

Zhao Yi sighed with regret. “Poor Instructor Yu. When he meets Han Po, he’ll realize how kind we are to him.”

Near the end of class, Yu Shi notified them, “There will be a pre-exam blood draw this afternoon. Remember to eat lightly.”

Before the Simulated Battlefield, physical data was usually monitored. Everyone was accustomed to it.

Because of the blood draw, Yu Shi rarely returned to the dormitory for a lunch break.

He had applied for a mobile wireless connection from the school, finally freeing himself from secretly leeching off the Wi-Fi downstairs. Ever since he leeched that one time, all the wireless networks downstairs had been encrypted, guarding against him like a thief.

Yu Shi endured it repeatedly to stop himself from reporting them all to the Disciplinary Department.

Just as he entered the dorm, a message arrived on Pink Cannonball.

[Thank You Whole Family: Little Yu Doesn’t Eat Fish, how have you been these past few days?]

After that last time, he hadn’t sent any more messages, nor did he show off his bird and fish all day. It was like he had evaporated from the world.

Yu Shi harbored a vague suspicion and replied: [Pretty good. You?]

[Thank You Whole Family: I’m not too good /crying/]

[Thank You Whole Family: I was hospitalized for a few days. The doctor said my blood sugar was unstable and insisted on keeping me for observation.]

Yu Shi: …

He could only guess in a reasonable direction: [Does your family have a history of diabetes? Or do you stay up late often and eat irregularly? You’re young; how can you have high blood sugar?]

[Thank You Whole Family: I suppose I must be the “history” in our family history.]

[Little Yu Doesn’t Eat Fish: ?]

[Thank You Whole Family: Just kidding. Don’t worry, my family doctor is very skilled. It’s under control now.]

[Little Yu Doesn’t Eat Fish: Wait, with your body in this condition, can you still be a soldier?]

[Thank You Whole Family: Hehe, that’s not an issue. I can wheel a wheelchair faster than an Olympic athlete runs, and I can take down small fries one by one even wearing reading glasses.]

[Little Yu Doesn’t Eat Fish: …]

No, forget the wheelchair and reading glasses—you wouldn’t even pass the military medical exam with nearsightedness!

Wake up!

He increasingly suspected this person was bragging.

After all, when out and about, identities are self-given. Perhaps he was just a logistics officer or a gopher in the unit, deliberately packaging himself like this to attract blind dates.

While he was thinking, the other side sent a picture. Clicking it open, it turned out to be a commemorative medal for fifty years of service.

[Thank You Whole Family: This is my grandfather’s. By next year, I’ll be able to get an eight-year medal.]

Yu Shi couldn’t help asking: [Which school are you actually at?]

[Thank You Whole Family: Hehe, can’t you see it on the homepage? I’ve already seen your school.]

[Thank You Whole Family: Kowa University, very impressive /thumbs up/. Your Weapons Manufacturing School has cultivated many master armorers.]

Yu Shi clicked on his profile. Favorability had turned to 22, and the info read: Institution: National Defense Military University.

Stunned for a full three seconds, he subconsciously looked out the window as the Summer Training squad marched past shouting slogans.

His eyes instantly widened, and his expression twisted slightly.

Is the person on the other end my student?!

[Little Yu Doesn’t Eat Fish: What major are you studying?]

[Thank You Whole Family: Same as you, hehe. We’re sort of colleagues.]

Yu Shi’s expression turned cold. He discovered this person was indeed lying.

Only the Command Academy had Summer Training in the entire school. If he was studying Weapons Manufacturing, it was absolutely impossible for him to be on the Summer Training roster.

Another damn liar.

I knew the dating market was unreliable!

Keeping his composure, he typed with a dark face: [That’s a coincidence. We can have an in-depth exchange when we have time.]

[Thank You Whole Family: No problem. A gun I designed even won a gold award /Totally OK/]

After thinking for a moment, Yu Shi sent a message to Liu Yin, telling her not to trust strangers easily, not to transfer money casually, and especially not to log into his account without permission again.

If this person was a scammer, there would definitely be a next move.

He narrowed his eyes, beginning to plan how to lure the snake out of its hole.

After the lunch break, Xu Bohan and Qi Huan knocked on the door to call Yu Shi to go for the blood draw together.

After knocking a few times, there was no response.

Xu Bohan was puzzled. “Where is he?”

“Could he have gone ahead already?” Qi Huan said.

“Didn’t we agree to go together?”

Xu Bohan continued to knock. Just as he raised his hand, Yu Shi pulled the door open and walked out. It looked like he had just washed his face; water droplets still clung to his brow and eyelashes, and he wore an expression of someone throwing caution to the wind.

He wiped his face. “Let’s go.”

Qi Huan secretly observed him, feeling that he was a bit high-strung, different from usual.

NDU had a military medicine major, so the infirmary was a small hospital. Dr. Chen led several interns, organizing everyone to line up for blood draws in an orderly manner.

Zhao Yi laughed. “Old Chen is treating us like lab rats for his students to practice on. Last time there was a girl who couldn’t find the vein after three tries. Good thing us rough men have thick skin and didn’t make a sound, but she ended up scaring herself into tears.”

Dr. Chen tied a tourniquet on him. “You have too much to say. Little Wang, stick him good.”

“You got it. Brother Yi, just relax. Close your eyes, kick your legs, and you won’t feel a thing.”

“Fuck, is that how you talk to people?”

Yu Shi quietly retreated, moving behind Xu Bohan and Qi Huan. Both looked at him simultaneously.

He acted nonchalant. “You guys go first.”

Little Wang picked up the blood collection needle and inserted it into Zhao Yi’s arm. The needle was thin and long, different from the thick needles used for extracting pheromones. It didn’t look very damaging.

The slender needle broke the skin, metal probing into the vein, and dark red blood flowed into the collection tube.

Yu Shi’s hands and feet instantly went numb. His heartbeat accelerated uncontrollably, a fine layer of sweat appeared on his forehead, and his chest felt so tight he couldn’t breathe.

He immediately averted his gaze, breathing through his mouth slightly, trying to wipe that sharp object from his mind.

It doesn’t seem to work.

It’s very hard to do.

He took another step back and accidentally bumped into a tall, solid chest.

Yu Shi’s thoughts were chaotic. Turning his head, his cheek grazed the person’s button. The cold sensation barely brought him back to his senses, and he quickly put distance between himself and the person behind him.

Seeing him steady himself, Xie Ren retracted his outstretched hand and offered a reminder: “Instructor Yu, stop backing up. Any further and you’ll be out the door.”

Behind him was empty air; the two of them were standing at the very end of the line.

Yu Shi spoke vaguely, “…I was letting you all draw first.”

As if a secret had been exposed, his eyes evaded contact slightly, looking toward the corner at the trash can filled with medical waste.

When Little Wang threw the discarded syringe into it, Yu Shi couldn’t help but squeeze his eyes shut, his face turning pale as a sheet.

Xie Ren gradually confirmed the conjecture in his heart: What he fears isn’t the rifle, but the needle.

He coughed and said, “Needle phobia isn’t shameful. How about I clear the room for you?”

“I don’t have needle phobia,” Yu Shi retorted with a frown.

If anyone else had said this, it might have been a thoughtful suggestion. But coming from Xie Ren, it carried a tone of teasing and provocation; even “clearing the room” sounded like he wanted everyone to see the joke.

Yu Shi said “No need” and stood firmly in front of him with a cold face.

Xie Ren clicked his tongue. Fine, if you don’t want it, you don’t want it. Why get so angry?

In the waiting interval, Yu Shi repeatedly and involuntarily bit his lip.

Scenes flashed through his mind like a silent film, electric and fast.

Some were images he couldn’t remember clearly—the more he didn’t want to remember, the more intrusive they were.

White gloves and extremely thick needles, the bleak smell of disinfectant, bustling footsteps, scalpels and hemostats, appearing in fragments. The syringes were specially thickened, suitable for extracting pheromones…

His hands gripped tighter and tighter, blood capillaries gradually surfacing on his lower lip, his face paper-white, looking like he might collapse at any moment.

Little Wang shouted, “Next. Instructor Yu, it’s your turn.”

Yu Shi’s body stiffened.

Suddenly, he heard Xie Ren say, “You step down. Let Old Chen do it.”

Little Wang was speechless. “Bro, I just made mistakes twice. Can you not be so troublesome?”

Xie Ren stepped forward directly, took the syringe, and stuffed it into Dr. Chen’s hand. “Cut the crap. You do it.”

Dr. Chen looked him up and down. “I didn’t expect the death-defying Commander Xie to be afraid of injections, insisting I do it for you. Embarrassing, isn’t it?”

Xie Ren didn’t defend himself, speaking calmly. “What’s embarrassing about it? Some people are afraid of bugs, some are afraid of thunder, so naturally, some are afraid of injections.”

He looked at Yu Shi and smiled. “Am I right, Instructor Yu?”

Yu Shi looked at him with a complex expression, not knowing what game he was playing.

“Draw his blood first, Dr. Chen.” Xie Ren moved out of the way, and Yu Shi had to sit down slowly.

Dr. Chen tied the tourniquet on his arm. Reflexively, he wanted to look, but a hand cupped his chin, turning his face away abruptly.

Xu Bohan was stopping the bleeding nearby. Seeing this scene, he almost threw away his cotton swab to rush over and stop the fight.

Damn it, this kid is provoking him again!

Xie Ren had intended to say a few words to distract Yu Shi, turning his face away casually.

He had grown up in a pile of Alphas, rolling in the dirt and mud. He was accustomed to physical collisions and didn’t feel anything wrong with it.

Simply put, he had no sense of boundaries.

Only after meeting Yu Shi’s eyes did he suddenly realize that this instructor was an Omega.

Those eyes held the slight anger of being offended, eyebrows furrowed, glaring at him unhappily.

Up close, the eye shape was like an unfolding fan, the eyelids thin and red. The tiny blood vessels on the eyelids resembled the fragile veins of a rabbit’s ear.

Yu Shi’s eyelashes were very long, extending densely to the corners of his eyes. Because of the close distance, the special luster beneath the contact lenses was visible.

Xie Ren’s Adam’s apple bobbed. Before he could look closely, his whole body went stiff as a brick, getting a real sense of an Omega for the first time.

His chin was so narrow, easily covered by a single hand, and his skin was so smooth… Zhao Yi was right; it really was like silken tofu.

Xie Ren felt like he had discovered a new continent. An Omega’s face is actually this soft.

Dr. Chen began the needle insertion. Generally speaking, bodily fluids contained pheromones.

But strangely, there was no scent on Yu Shi, just like on the ring that day. Even this close, he couldn’t smell his pheromones, as if they didn’t exist.

Xie Ren leaned forward unintentionally, seeming to want to confirm this point.

The next second, a crisp slap rang through the air.

In the enclosed blood draw room, this noise was particularly piercing. Everyone looked over.

Yu Shi had slapped the back of his hand solidly, forcefully swatting his hand away.

While Dr. Chen ate melon in surprise, he quickly collected three tubes of blood.

Ignoring the slight stinging pain, Yu Shi said coldly, “What do you think you’re doing?”

Xie Ren looked at the collection tubes. Faint pheromones swirled around them, but unfortunately, none were Yu Shi’s.

That slap just now had been heavy; a red patch appeared on the back of his hand. Yet he didn’t even look at it, flipping Yu Shi’s hand over instead. Sure enough, that palm was also red.

An Omega’s hand was very soft.

It seemed he shouldn’t interact with him using Alpha methods.

Yu Shi’s frown deepened, his voice almost angry. “Xie Ren!”

This shout was like a signal. Xu Bohan rolled up his sleeves and charged. “You bastard, daring to bully my master! Slapping his face and twisting his hand, you want to die, right! Qi Huan, follow me!”

Qi Huan held him back desperately. “Calm down! Y-Y-Your needle hole is spurting blood!”

Dr. Chen finished drawing blood, pulled out the needle, and pressed it with a cotton swab.

There was still blood on the needle. Just as Yu Shi was about to look up, Xie Ren beat him to it, pressing down tightly on the cotton swab and blocking his line of sight.

“Instructor Yu, actually I’m quite curious,” he said with an innocent expression, though his words were tantamount to sexual harassment. “Are all Omegas’ pheromones this faint? Can I smell yours?”
