Chapter 34: Slacking Off, Day 34 part 1
Wen Ying carefully identified the old man’s true form.
Calling him an old man wasn’t entirely accurate.
The person before her wasn’t an old man.
The reason he had white hair wasn’t due to age.
It was because—
He was a turtle spirit in human form.
When he first transformed, he looked exactly like this—white-haired and ancient.
Now, Wen Ying seemed to understand the meaning of his earlier posture: prostrate on the ground, limbs waving, neck stretched out—
As a turtle, he wanted Wen Ying to recognize him better.
As for the term “grandma”…
Although the term was absurd, Wen Ying felt she had heard it somewhere before.
Ah.
Wen Ying remembered.
It was Little Black. Little Black had said that at first, he called his master “grandma”…
Could it be…
This one was also…
“You were also born under the care of Little Black’s master?” Wen Ying asked thoughtfully.
“Mas…ter?” The old man clearly found this term unfamiliar. “Aren’t you also…Little Black’s…grandma?”
Indeed.
Wen Ying raised her eyebrows helplessly.
The source of all evil was, once again, Little Black.
It seemed that the master had delivered many animals.
And Wen Ying was once again mistaken for that master.
With a little mind reading, Wen Ying understood the truth.
It turned out that because he transformed too late, this old man had never truly called Little Black’s master.
But when he was still a turtle, not knowing how to address her, he privately asked Little Black, who had transformed earlier.
Hearing this question, Little Black smiled cunningly: “Since you’re like me, born under grandma’s care, and so much younger than grandma, just call her grandma like I do.”
Turtles were naturally honest and kind. Hearing Little Black’s words, he believed them without a doubt and silently called her grandma in his heart.
Because he had never transformed, the turtle couldn’t speak, and their master remained unaware of this, so she never corrected this absurd address.
Wen Ying wasn’t sure if she was Little Black’s master, but she felt that when she got back, she could still spank Little Black’s butt on behalf of that master.
The name “Little Grandson,” however, had nothing to do with the term “grandma.”
His name was literally Little Grandson. His master had picked him up from a family surnamed Sun, and she casually named him that.
It was clearly the naming level one would expect from that master.
“Little…Little Grandson,” Wen Ying called out with difficulty, pausing slightly.
If this name was taken alone, it wouldn’t seem strange, but when combined with the term “grandma”… it was hard to say.
“Aye! Grandma!” Little Grandson replied happily.
Every time Wen Ying heard the white-haired old man, prostrate on the ground, call her that, her heart would skip a beat.
“Little…Little Grandson, get up first,” Wen Ying helped the old man up again. “I know who you are.”
Hearing this, Little Grandson’s tears flowed. He quickly stood up and wiped away his tears.
Unexpectedly, the old man was so strong.
The disciple who had seen the old man earlier thought he would be a frail old man, but he got up so quickly, no less than a young and strong youth.
“Little…Little Grandson, you don’t know, Little Black doesn’t actually use the term ‘grandma.’ He tricked you,” Wen Ying said helplessly. “The term he uses is ‘master.'”
“Ah?” Judging from his expression, Little Grandson was greatly shocked.
In his honest and simple heart, the word “trick” didn’t even exist.
“And… I’m not necessarily your… uh, grandma. Don’t call me that anymore,” Wen Ying waved her hand. “My name is Wen Ying, just call me by my name.”
“Oh…I see… Did I mistake you…” Little Grandson thought in a daze, speaking slowly. “But… how did you know… about Little Black?”
It seemed that he had been too excited earlier, and his speech had been much faster. His current slow pace was his normal speaking speed.
Each word was drawn out. It truly had the characteristics of a turtle.
“I met him a while ago,” Wen Ying vaguely replied.
The explanation would take time, and with the disciple present, Wen Ying didn’t want to say much.
“Oh…Little Black even told you this… It seems… you must be a good person…” Little Grandson thought for a while, shrinking his neck. “Can you… take me out… to see Little Black?”
“Yes,” Wen Ying didn’t hesitate.
She wanted to ask Little Grandson more about the “master.”
Besides, she didn’t dislike Little Grandson, unlike Little Black. How could she refuse the request of an honest person?
The disciple watched from the side, though not entirely clear, but at least understood that the old grandfather had mistaken the “grandma,” the “grandma” was not Senior Sister Wen, Senior Sister Wen was just a friend who knew the old grandfather.
Even so, the disciple still thought Senior Sister Wen was very powerful. She could actually know an elder as old as the old grandfather!
Since Little Black was a friend of the old grandfather, he must also be a white-haired old man—the disciple reasoned.
“I’m sorry, Senior Sister Wen, just now… I misunderstood,” the disciple said a little embarrassedly.
Asking a woman’s age was an offense, especially using the term “long-lived”…
“It’s alright,” Wen Ying didn’t mind.
The disciple’s appearance here, although strange, saved her a lot of trouble.
Last time she was blocked by the system, this time, it probably wouldn’t be blocked.
“However… I have some things to ask you,” Wen Ying said.
“Oh? Senior Sister has something to ask me?” The disciple was clearly very excited and quickly said, “Senior Sister, just ask, I will definitely tell you everything I know!”
“You said earlier that poisoning is common in Xun Xian Sect,” Wen Ying had wanted to ask this for a long time. “Why is that?”
“That, that…” Hearing Wen Ying mention the matter at the dining hall that day, the disciple couldn’t help but look embarrassed and ashamed. He lowered his head slightly, fiddling with his fingers, obviously a little flustered. “At that time, I was affected by the soul-capture technique, so I spoke without thinking…”
That past was definitely a dark history that the disciple never wanted to mention again.
He had actually bought someone else’s leftover food…
Luckily, Senior Sister Wen didn’t mention the leftover food, otherwise he would have run away.
“No, no, no, you misunderstood,” Wen Ying waved her hand and explained. “I want to ask where you got this information.”
She naturally knew that under normal circumstances, the disciple would never publicly say this. It seemed that without the help of the intelligence-reducing technique, Wen Ying wouldn’t have been able to find out about this disciple’s extraordinary nature.
“Oh, so Senior Sister is asking about this,” the disciple immediately recovered his bright smile. He picked up the booklet that had fallen to the ground and proactively handed it to Wen Ying. “I learned everything about Xun Xian Sect from this booklet! If Senior Sister is interested, I can give it to you. Anyway, I’ve already memorized everything in it.”
Wen Ying took the booklet, and saw clearly written on it—
《Xun Xian Sect Tourism Guide》.
After the “Ecological Park Management Office,” another equally absurd name appeared.
Wen Ying casually flipped a page, and saw entries such as “Dining Hall,” “Cultivation Grounds,” “Forbidden Area,” and many other listings.
Since they were currently in the forbidden area, Wen Ying was a little curious and turned to the page number indicated after “Forbidden Area,” only to see a few simple words written on it.
“Use this teleportation talisman to reach the most mysterious place in the forbidden area!”
The place for the talisman was empty, so it seemed that the disciple had come here because of this.
The appearance of this booklet was extraordinary.
Its strangeness was almost comparable to the existence of an ecological park in Xun Xian Sect.
“Where did you get this booklet?” Wen Ying continued to ask.
Although being in the forbidden area hadn’t unlocked many secrets for her, this booklet… had unlocked something incredible.
“Oh, before, a strange merchant came to my village selling small items. At that time, I had just been selected by Xun Xian Sect and was about to go to the outer sect, and he mysteriously recommended this thing to me, saying that if I could one day enter the inner sect, I would definitely need it. I was very happy to hear what he said, and seeing that the price was not expensive, I bought it,” the disciple chuckled. “And he was right, I did need it! I learned a lot of the rules of our sect from it.”
“I see. Thank you,” Wen Ying nodded.
After seeing Wen Ying put away the booklet, the disciple mysteriously leaned close to Wen Ying and whispered in her ear, “Senior Sister Wen, the disciples just now were talking about the ‘Exam God,’ it was… you, right?”
“Oh?” Wen Ying looked at the disciple with interest. “Why do you say that?”
