Chapter 10: I Plan to Be Gentle with Him
After Mu Mu left, Zheng An lost the desire to continue watching the competition. He turned off his smart device, put his hands behind his head, and lay back on the bed, squinting at the ceiling.
Suddenly, he remembered that the guest who gave Mu Mu the money had the surname Yan. The first person that came to his mind was the commander of the Fourth Army Corps, often appearing in the news. He was so startled that he sprang up from the bed.
The surname Yan was rare. Glass Star wasn’t the smallest among the nine main stars, but it wasn’t particularly large either. It couldn’t be so coincidental that the Mr. Yan Mu Mu met was the Imperial General Yan Gui Xing, could it?
Please! Imperial General? And Mu Mu, who had low intelligence, poor hearing, and a limp? These two people only matched in terms of their looks; other than that, there’s no match at all?!
“Impossible, right?” Zheng An smacked his lips, shook his head, and lay back down.
Impossible! Absolutely impossible! Zheng An laughed at himself for overthinking. Poor people like them wouldn’t encounter such a big shot!
On the other side, after leaving Zheng An’s room, Mu Mu returned to his own small room.
The thin door blocked out the darkness outside. A small, palm-sized star-shaped lamp emitted a soft yellow light in his small bed.
The warm yellow light illuminated a small space. Mu Mu looked at the extra star coins in his account, and couldn’t help but think of Yan Gui Xing.
He clutched his smart device to his chest, crawled out of the covers, turned over, and smiled, looking at the blurry star patterns on the ceiling.
Mr. Yan is such a good person!
Little did Mu Mu know that the good person he was thinking of would soon completely destroy his peaceful life.
—
The sun set, and the orange-red light covered the earth, like a raging fire, beautiful and magnificent.
Achi didn’t have the mood to appreciate such natural beauty. His large black Martin boots crushed the orange-red light scattered across the peach wood floor as he quickly climbed the stairs.
He went to the third floor and knocked three times on the only room on the left-hand side.
After knocking politely three times, Achi stood outside, not daring to move until a lazy “Come in” came from inside. Only then did he push open the door.
This room, occupying half the corridor, was Yan Gui Xing’s study, but it was more like a suite combining a living room, bedroom, study, and bathroom.
Oh, and there was also a bar stocked with liquor; it had all the functions.
Achi, having been in and out countless times, had secretly memorized the layout of this room, planning to build an identical one when he retired.
Of course, these were Achi’s beautiful retirement plans.
And currently, Achi, who was still decades away from retirement, stood straight in front of the large black crystal stone desk, holding his smart device, looking at the off-white leather executive chair with its back to him, and said, “Boss, I’ve found it.”
The off-white swivel chair turned around after Achi spoke, and Yan Gui Xing, looking listless in the chair, showed an interested expression. He tapped the void in front of him with his finger.
Achi quickly understood Yan Gui Xing’s meaning and pulled up his smart device screen in front of Yan Gui Xing.
Yan Gui Xing’s lips curled into a smile, using his beautiful voice, he sarcastically said, “What? Have you been slacking off on training lately? Got rusty? Is the data of an ordinary person worth spending a whole day on?”
Achi wanted to say that the data was ordinary to the extreme, which made it difficult to investigate. But besides a wry smile, how dare he retort?
Luckily, Yan Gui Xing was in a good mood, and after teasing Achi, he looked at Mu Mu’s data.
On the right side of the screen was Mu Mu’s ID photo from two years ago. Except for being whiter and more youthful than now, there wasn’t much change. There were two cute dimples on his slightly chubby cheeks, and on the right side were lines of short text.
Those short texts, only a few hundred words each, covered Mu Mu’s life from birth to adulthood, 27 years.
Yan Gui Xing’s gaze suddenly fixed on a line of text, his brow furrowed slightly.
[Age 10: Mu Mu’s family took flight D378 to Glass Star for a vacation. After completing the jump, the spaceship was hijacked by the Blue Devil Pirate group, and the entire ship was held hostage.]
Blue Devil Pirate group? Why does that name sound so familiar?
Yan Gui Xing leaned back into the cool, soft chair back, his hands resting on the armrests, his right foot tapping the ground. The swivel chair suddenly spun around.
Oh! He remembered!
Just as the chair was about to complete a second rotation, Yan Gui Xing’s foot stopped the chair. No wonder he found the Blue Devil Pirate group familiar. Wasn’t that the first pirate group he had annihilated with lightning speed after his first election as a five-star general, to prove himself?
Yan Gui Xing remembered that he had been a little too eager for success at the time, afraid of taking too long and other generals vying for merit would steal his credit. He had only used two days to completely wipe out the pirate group, ranked second only to the Interstellar Pirate group.
Whether his eagerness had caused Mu Mu to lose his parents in the explosion and suffer serious injuries was something Yan Gui Xing wouldn’t reflect on, and couldn’t reflect on.
To say nothing of Mu Mu only occupying a small corner of his heart, the fact that he had obtained everything he had through ruthless means meant that Yan Gui Xing would never regret any of his decisions. Why would he reflect?
He would only think gleefully, So, the little one and I have such a wonderful connection.
Age ten was a turning point in Mu Mu’s 27 years. Before that, he was a well-off, clever, and beloved only child.
After that, he was a pitiful little fool and disabled child, bullied by other children in an orphanage. At 18, Mu Mu accepted the orphanage director’s suggestion of working part-time and studying and moved out of the orphanage.
After that, it was simpler. After completing his basic Imperial education, Mu Mu didn’t continue studying; he participated in the Imperial Youth Poverty Relief Program and started working.
Until he turned 27 this year, officially becoming an adult, and the assistance program ended, Mu Mu truly began to support himself.
However, these were obviously not what Yan Gui Xing cared about. He quickly scanned them, noted the names of the stores where Mu Mu currently worked, and then had Achi retract the screen.
Holding the screen, seeing Yan Gui Xing silent, Achi didn’t know whether to leave or stay. He pressed his right index fingernail against his thumb before speaking.
“Boss, should I bring him back?”
It wasn’t strange for Achi to ask that. Whenever Yan Gui Xing took a liking to someone, he was the one who brought them back.
Based on his two days of observing his superior’s intentions, he could be 100% sure that his boss was interested in young Mu Mu, otherwise, he wouldn’t have had him investigate his background.
Yan Gui Xing, who had been pondering, lifted his eyelids, glanced at Achi, and chuckled, “Why be so crude? We’re decent people; don’t act like pirates.”
Achi: […]
Who am I doing this for?! If he wasn’t afraid of Yan Gui Xing, he would have shouted those words.
Yan Gui Xing suddenly asked, “Achi, what do you think of young Mu Mu?”
Achi thought of Mu Mu’s pitiful past and disability and honestly said, “He’s quite pitiful.”
Yan Gui Xing nodded in agreement. Orphaned, alone, and a beautiful little fool with disabilities. There was no one more suitable to raise at home!
“Pitiful and cute.” Yan Gui Xing stood up, stretched, walked from behind the desk to Achi’s side, patted him on the shoulder, and said softly, “So, I plan to be gentle with him.”
How sad … poor Mu Mu …
