Chapter 12: The Chatty Robot Butler
“Zheng An, can’t you think of something good for once? No one’s arguing or fighting; I’m looking at little fool.”
The chubby boss remained in the same position, his chin resting on the counter, his gaze fixed ahead, not even glancing at his trusted employee.
Zheng An didn’t mind being teased by the chubby boss. He imitated the boss’s posture, resting his chin on the counter to look at Mu Mu weaving through the crowd.
He casually asked, “Mu Mu? What are you watching him for? Is he slacking off?”
“If little fool knew how to slack off, that would be great,” the chubby boss mumbled, “I wish this silly kid would learn how to slack off from others.”
Zheng An tilted his head to look at the chubby boss, smirking, “So the boss likes employees to slack off. It’s fine, I’ll steal little fool’s share of laziness as well.”
Before Zheng An finished speaking, he felt a sharp pain on the back of his head. He quickly covered his head with his hands, looking innocently at the chubby boss, “Boss, why did you hit me?”
“You dare talk about slacking off in front of me, I’ll deduct your wages!” the chubby boss yelled.
Zheng An pouted, grumbling unconvincingly, “You were hoping little fool would slack off just now, and now you’re talking about deducting wages. Sigh, middle-aged men are so fickle.”
The chubby boss roared imposingly, “Zheng An, if you say another word, I’ll deduct 100 star coins!”
“Boss, I’m wrong! Please be magnanimous and forget about it. Just pretend I farted, please don’t deduct my wages!”
Although Zheng An had won money from the competition yesterday, 100 star coins was enough for half a month’s worth of nutrient fluid.
If he lost this half-month’s food because of his loose tongue, he would be heartbroken for half a year.
The chubby boss didn’t really intend to deduct Zheng An’s wages. Seeing Zheng An’s sincere apology, he didn’t say anything more.
He himself also understood that which of his employees didn’t slack off? Only little Mu Mu was a fool and didn’t know how to slack off.
“By the way, Boss, why are you looking at Mu Mu all this time?” Zheng An saw that the chubby boss hadn’t yet withdrawn his gaze. His first thought was that Mu Mu had made some mistake and the boss was considering whether to fire him.
He quietly swallowed, taking a step back, cautiously observing the chubby boss’s expression from the corner of his eye, hoping to read something different from the boss’s standard good-guy face, pretending to gossip, “Did he make a mistake?”
“No, what mistake could he make? He’s just a pushover, anyone can bully him.” The chubby boss sat up and handed Zheng An a magazine-sized smart device from his lap.
Zheng An took it doubtfully, listening to the chubby boss as he watched, “This is the first time I’ve seen a customer specifically request little fool to deliver, and it’s from the Rich District, just curious.”
Actually, the chubby boss wanted to say that although his restaurant was one of the top ones in the surrounding areas, it wasn’t up to the standards of the big shots in Golden District 1.
He hadn’t seen any customers from Golden District 1 in all the years he’d been running this restaurant.
Suddenly receiving a delivery order from Golden District 1, specifically requesting little Mu Mu, that little disabled fool, to deliver, how could he not be curious? Anyone would be curious.
Zheng An happened to see the last line of the notes section. Hearing the chubby boss say it was a customer from the Rich District, his first thought was of the generous customer who had given Mu Mu 10,000 star coins a few hours earlier. He quickly looked back to the customer’s information on the first line.
Mr. Y, Golden District 1, Building 1021
Zheng An’s eyes narrowed, subconsciously connecting Mr. Y in the order with Mr. Yan Mu Mu had mentioned.
Zheng An gasped, scratching his temple, muttering softly, “It can’t be that coincidental.”
The cash register was so small that the chubby boss was crowded next to Zheng An. No matter how softly Zheng An spoke, the chubby boss heard him clearly. He leaned closer to Zheng An, curiously asking,
“What coincidence? Little Zheng, do you happen to know who this Mr. Y is? Has he eaten at the restaurant before? When did little fool get to know such a big shot?”
Zheng An’s illogical suspicion was completely thrown off by the chubby boss’s continuous questions. He quickly shook his head, saying he didn’t know. He quickly tapped “accept,” taking the delivery order for Mu Mu.
By the time Mu Mu came to his senses, he was already sitting on the public flyer with the three-tiered food boxes.
Now, Mu Mu was standing in front of an antique white door with carved roses, a crack open.
The chilly air from the gap blew onto his exposed forearm, causing a mixture of cold and warmth that made the fine hairs on his arm tremble.
Mu Mu wasn’t sure if the gap was intentionally left by the owner or if the gate opened along with the door when he entered the access code.
He nervously hugged the food boxes, cautiously peering through the crack. It was backlit, and the entrance hall was dark; he couldn’t see anything.
Mu Mu hesitated and moved closer to the door, wanting to see more clearly and decide whether or not to enter.
He peered into the crack again. This time, it was darker than before, and there were some crimson dots, like a monster with red eyes standing behind the door, coldly watching him.
This frightened Mu Mu, his face turning pale. He let out a short scream and stumbled back two steps.
Just as Mu Mu was about to turn and run, the door opened, revealing a round, silver-white metallic head with two bright red eyes.
Although no one around Mu Mu used robot butlers, the widespread use of robot butlers throughout the Empire allowed Mu Mu to instantly recognize what was poking its head out of the crack.
His almond-shaped eyes widened slightly, his plump lips forming an “O” shape, making a soft “ah,” a clear expression of realization.
The robot butler’s red eyes also curved into two crescent moons. In a cute boyish voice, it said, “You must be Mr. Mu Mu, welcome!”
Hearing his name, Mu Mu subconsciously nodded vigorously, confirming his identity without a moment’s suspicion that Mr. Y’s butler, whom he had never met, knew his name.
“Come in quickly~ The master and Xiao Ting have been waiting for you for a long time~” The butler, calling himself Xiao Ting, used its chubby metallic hand to pull open half of the door and beckoned to Mu Mu, who was still standing foolishly by the door.
Mu Mu was obedient. Hearing Xiao Ting say the master had been waiting for a long time, thinking he had been late, he quickly walked into the house.
Only after the door was closed by Xiao Ting did he belatedly realize that he shouldn’t have entered the house. He should have given the food boxes to Xiao Ting and let Xiao Ting confirm the order.
“Xiao Ting.”
“Xiao Ting is here!” Xiao Ting’s voice rose a tone, and its face showed a happy expression.
“Actually, Xiao Ting’s full name is Di Ting, but everyone prefers to call me Xiao Ting, and I like the name Xiao Ting too. But Mr. Mu Mu can call me Di Ting if you prefer~”
“Oh, right~ Xiao Ting is a boy~ Mr. Mu Mu, don’t you think my red tie is very pretty?”
Xiao Ting said, puffing up its round body that couldn’t really puff up, showing Mu Mu its dark red leather tie knotted in a Windsor knot.
“If Mr. Mu Mu prefers girls, Xiao Ting can also wear a pink bow and a pink dress. Xiao Ting thinks I look pretty in a dress~”
Xiao Ting spun around Mu Mu, gliding to the front, pointing to the entrance with one arm and placing its cold mechanical hand on Mu Mu’s arm.
“This way, please~ The master has been waiting for Mr. Mu Mu~ Shall we hurry, so the master doesn’t get hungry?”
Speaking, it grasped Mu Mu’s arm with a force that didn’t allow resistance and pulled him forward.
As if knowing Mu Mu’s leg was injured, Xiao Ting adjusted its gliding speed to accommodate Mu Mu’s walking speed, preventing him from struggling.
This was Mu Mu’s first time seeing a robot butler up close. He hadn’t expected that such a robot would be so… human-like.
While amazed, he was also confused by the talkative Xiao Ting, forgetting to give the food boxes to Xiao Ting, and completely bewilderedly followed it into the living room.
When he stood in the luxuriously decorated vintage living room, seeing a man in a smoky gray silk shirt and black high-waisted trousers walking towards him, he showed a surprised expression.
