Chapter 17: A Genius!
Yu An’s emotions were much more obvious than Fu Yunshu’s. His small eyebrows were knitted together, and his pink, tender mouth was tightly pursed. Without saying a word, he wiped the pencil lead dust from his face with the back of his hand, muttering a refutation, “I’m not a dirty child. I’m clearly very clean.”
Unfortunately, his volume was low, and he lacked any sense of momentum.
Mother Fu didn’t even spare him a glance, ignoring him completely.
Since the cub had been wronged, the guardian naturally had to step forward. Soland stood on Yu An’s shoulder, incensed, stretching out a small tentacle to curse at Mother Fu.
[Did my cub eat your family’s rice? Who are you to criticize him? Telling your kid not to play with ours—as if we even care! Believe it or not, I’ll swallow you in one bite!]
Regrettably, Mother Fu couldn’t hear Soland speaking; she continued to hold her chin high with arrogance.
The Snow Snake next door woke up from the commotion. Leaning against the glass to watch the excitement, he chimed in with Soland.
[These two humans are indeed very annoying. Every time they come, they always toss that little brat over to me. It’s beyond frustrating.]
Soland: [Then why don’t you go and eat them?]
The Snow Snake made a disgusted face: [I don’t eat meat; it’s too fishy. I like eating grass.]
Soland: […]
Yu An’s attention was also drawn there. He looked at the Snow Snake in surprise. Why had he learned from the little science cartoons that snakes were carnivores?
This snake was actually a vegetarian?!
Yu An’s understanding was completely refreshed.
Just because Yu An didn’t care about Mother Fu anymore didn’t mean Fu Yunshu felt the same. He took a deep breath, his dark eyes fixed on his parents, his voice suppressed with anger. “Get out. I don’t need you to dictate my business.”
Mother Fu’s expression also turned cold. “Yunshu, you’re a smart child. You should know that your father and I don’t need you. You have so many younger brothers and sisters; they are all lining up to participate in the CAF Project.”
Fu Yunshu looked directly into Mother Fu’s eyes, his gaze actually holding a trace of anticipation. “Fine then. Let them come. Let’s see how many of them die.”
“You!” Mother Fu’s rage hit the ceiling. She glared at Fu Yunshu as if the child before her weren’t her own flesh and blood, but a chess piece that had escaped her control, causing her immense irritation.
Right at that moment, a small white bird hopped out from Yu An’s shoulder. Little White offered an enthusiastic greeting.
“Hello, you old-and-faded auntie, hello there!”
Women care most about their appearance. Mother Fu’s fury immediately shifted targets. “What did you say?! Me, old and faded?! Auntie?!”
Because Little White was with Yu An, Yu An inevitably bore the brunt of her murderous gaze. He stood frozen in place, terrified.
Little White continued its passionate output.
“Indeed. According to Little White’s intelligent detection, you, Auntie, are a match for a series of terms such as: menopause, rage disorder, more poisonous than a tigress, and Snow White’s stepmother. You are a truly wicked existence.”
“Out of respect for women, Little White will not disclose your exact age. However, you, Auntie, are over forty-five, which firmly places you in the ‘Auntie’ range. The words you speak belong to the category of low-quality, immoral trash talk. I suggest you go to a university for the elderly for a ‘re-remodeling’ of your character.”
“The above data comes from big data calculations; Little White takes no responsibility for the results~”
Mother Fu’s face turned as black as the bottom of a pot. Her nails nearly pierced through her protective suit.
Little White’s words, delivered in a light tone yet packing a heavy blow, shocked everyone. Even Father Fu was stunned for a moment, forgetting to defend his wife as he stared blankly at Little White.
Coming to his senses, Yu An immediately clutched Little White in his arms, pressing his two small fingers over the bird’s sharp beak. He silently shrank back behind Fu Yunshu to hide.
Please stop talking; Brother Fu’s bad mama is going to die of anger.
Soland looked shocked, his two tentacles clapping as he cheered for Little White.
[As expected of you, Green Tea Bird.]
This lethality was simply peerless.
Fu Yunshu raised a hand to hide the upward curve of his lips, moving a step to better shield Yu An and prevent the two from turning their embarrassment into rage and lashing out.
The farce here was quickly noticed by the Base. An elderly man dressed in a traditional Tang suit, with his hands clasped behind his back, walked over leisurely. Three armed soldiers followed behind him.
The elderly man stepped between the child and the adults without a word, looking straight at Father Fu. His voice was slow but powerful. “Little Fu, why are you getting so serious with a child? Have you lived all these years only to regress?”
He had clearly seen the events through the surveillance.
Before the elderly man, Father Fu lowered his head. His attitude was respectful, not daring to offend, as he put on a facade of parental concern. “Elder Gu, we just wanted to see the child. It’s been so long since we’ve met; we truly miss him. You have children too; surely you can understand our feelings?”
“No, I cannot understand.” The old man maintained a faint smile. To anyone else, he looked like a kind and genial grandfather, but the words he spoke were relentless. “The children in my family are all single heirs—the lifeblood of my Gu family. They aren’t like your family’s mass-produced stock; there’s no comparison.”
“Furthermore, I don’t believe an employer would feel heartache for his products.”
Father Fu’s face was filled with embarrassment. He hemmed and hawed for a long while, not a single word escaping his lips. Before a higher-ranking noble, this adult who had been so overbearing in front of a child could only bow his head and endure the reprimand.
After finishig his mockery, Grandpa Gu waved them away. “Go on then. We haven’t prepared any food for you.”
The Fu parents left dejectedly. Grandpa Gu gave a snort, muttered something under his breath, and turned around, only to be met by Yu An’s small eyes filled with worship.
Yu An was slow with words and couldn’t win arguments; he could only be silently aggrieved. In his eyes, this grandfather who suddenly appeared was like a god descending from the heavens, subduing the two bad people in an instant. He was truly amazing.
Grandpa Gu and Yu An stared at each other for a few seconds. He glanced at Little White on the boy’s shoulder. “From Wen Xun’s family?”
“Mhm-mhm!” Yu An nodded his small head, offering a shy compliment. “Grandpa was so amazing just now.”
Hearing the little fellow’s sweet and soft voice, Grandpa Gu’s heart expanded slightly. He had always liked well-behaved children. Combined with his relationship with Wen Xun, his gaze toward Yu An was full of affection.
Grandpa Gu intentionally put on a fierce expression. “Of course. Next time anyone bullies you, come and tell Grandpa. Grandpa will vent your frustrations for you.”
Yu An smiled, revealing two small dimples, his lake-blue eyes curving into crescents. “Mhm-mhm, thank you, Grandpa.”
The child’s brilliant smile was infectious. Grandpa Gu couldn’t help but smile as well. His wrinkled hand patted the boy’s head, and he suddenly remembered he was here for serious business.
“Little friend, what is your name?”
“My name is Yu An.”
“Well then, An-an, can Grandpa ask you a question?” Grandpa Gu lowered his voice, fearing he might scare the child. “Why aren’t you wearing a protective suit? Look, Brother’s papa and mama are both wearing them. Why didn’t your papa give you one?”
Yu An tilted his head. “Papa said I don’t need to wear one.”
Wen Xun had told Yu An the reason before, but his explanation was complex and hard to understand. Yu An had only vaguely remembered a few lines. He pointed to the Snow Snake next door. “Snake brother, C-rank.”
“I am also C-rank. Papa said it’s okay this way.”
To ensure Yu An could accurately state the ranks, Wen Xun had specifically spent a few days teaching him the alphabet and pronunciation.
Grandpa Gu’s eyes lit up instantly. He cautiously took Yu An’s hand, pulling him from behind Fu Yunshu to his side. “An-an, how old are you?”
Yu An: “Three~”
“Oh, three years old. Three is good, three is great.”
Grandpa Gu was grinning from ear to ear. Though it didn’t compare to Ling Xingcheng back then, Yu An’s talent was one in ten thousand—a rare find.
Fu Yunshu’s eyes widened slightly upon hearing Yu An’s rank. His younger brother’s rank was actually higher than his own? Then how was he supposed to protect him? No, he had to become even stronger than An-an so he could protect him properly.
“Then, An-an…”
“Teacher.”
Grandpa Gu was interrupted by Wen Xun. Wen Xun stood at the door, nodding to Grandpa Gu. “I’m off work. I’ve come to take the child home.”
The goal had been achieved; there was no need to continue the act.
Wen Xun beckoned to Yu An. “An-an, time to go home.”
Yu An trotted happily to Wen Xun’s side, habitually grabbing his hand and affectionately rubbing his soft face against his arm, squinting his eyes with joy.
Wen Xun smiled and leaned down to pick Yu An up. “An-an, say goodbye to Grandpa and Brother.”
Yu An twisted his body. “Goodbye~”
Fu Yunshu answered the fastest: “Goodbye, An-an. Come back to play next time.”
Grandpa Gu hesitated. After a moment, he followed them out, trailing behind the father and son. “Well… A-Xun, you know, I’ve always wanted a student…”
Wen Xun said intentionally, “Teacher, am I not enough for you? I’m practically half your student already.”
Wen Xun had been raised by Wen Yun, and after Wen Yun left the research field, Wen Xun had studied under Elder Gu. Grandpa Gu was indeed half his teacher.
Grandpa Gu was anxious. “It’s not the same. I want a young one. You’re already so big; aren’t I allowed to have a new student?”
“An-an is only three and already at C-rank. I guarantee that if he follows me, his future achievements definitely won’t be inferior to Ling Xingcheng’s. That brat isn’t nearly as obedient as your little one.”
Grandpa Gu’s words were full of satisfaction with Yu An. Yu An only heard Grandpa saying he was obedient and smiled, leaning his face against Wen Xun’s shoulder.
Wen Xun patted Yu An’s small head. “But Teacher, Lin Huaichen and I have no plans to let the child participate in the CAF Project. An-an has other things to do.”
Grandpa Gu’s face hardened. “An-an has the potential for S-rank. What business could be more important than that?!”
“An-an has to inherit the family fortune,” Wen Xun said with a straight face. “My Wen family and Lin Huaichen’s Lin family are both waiting for this single heir to take over. We don’t expect the child to achieve anything great in the future; being a happy second-generation rich kid is perfectly fine.”
Grandpa Gu: “…Then isn’t his talent going to waste?”
“Not at all. Isn’t Lin Huaichen also S-rank now?” Wen Xun fluently provided a counterexample. “He said he only wants the child to live a stable and peaceful life. If you have anything to discuss, talk to him. By the way, his mental state hasn’t been great lately. If you want to talk to him, I suggest waiting a while.”
Grandpa Gu’s lips twitched. He naturally knew how unstable Lin Huaichen’s mental state could be. Back then, the Base hadn’t wanted him and Wen Xun to be together and had specifically called him in for a talk.
Lin Huaichen had kept a faint smile on his face throughout. Once they had clearly explained the stakes, he said airily, “Oh, so you want to be Fahai and tear us apart? Fine. Then I won’t live either. Let’s all die together.”
With that, he had been about to trigger [Positive-Negative Annihilation] to take everyone with him. The Base high-levels had been so terrified they retreated repeatedly, hastily declaring they were a match made in heaven and wishing them a long life together with many children, before respectfully ushering Lin Huaichen out.
Grandpa Gu’s teeth felt sore just thinking about that scene. He wouldn’t go to talk to Lin Huaichen even if he were dying.
Seeing the plan to have Yu An join the CAF Project fail, Grandpa Gu watched the father and son depart with a face full of regret. He stared longingly at their receding backs, as if witnessing a young genius being ruined by doting parents.
After returning home, Wen Xun excitedly kissed Yu An twice on the cheek.
This was perfect. With Grandpa Gu as a springboard, the Base high-levels would instinctively assume Yu An was a genius who had awakened his mental magnetic field from a young age. They wouldn’t form other associations that might expose Yu An’s identity as a Xenogenic cub.
Two weeks later, the Kyoto elite gathered at the Lin estate. Various luxury cars filled the front of the manor, and men and women dressed in finery were led into the century-old noble home by servants.
A young man with dyed green hair, carrying a small yellow dog, walked along the red carpet. His rare hair color drew wide eyes from the surrounding people, making him the center of attention in an instant.
The young man’s face was very attractive—refined and ethereal. With his green hair, he looked like a sprite from the forest, far removed from the mundane world.
However, this “sprite” had a bit of a temper, muttering to his companion, “Damn it, Lin Huaichen and I were both single when we met. He’s married, and I’m single. He has a kid, and I’m still single. Did this bastard suck away all my luck?!”
The companion gave an awkward but polite smile. “Don’t go crazy. Stay steady.”
“But it’s fine; I have a kid too.” The young man looked down to tease the puppy in his arms. “Isn’t that right, Little Yellow? Papa loves you most… What the f*ck!”
The companion watched as the green-haired man was pinned against a wall by a youth with an even more explosive temper. He covered his mouth and gasped, “Xingcheng, what are you doing?! That’s Fu Yin! He just dyed his hair green; surely you can still recognize him?!”
Ling Xingcheng pressed one hand against Fu Yin’s shoulder and lifted the little yellow dog with the other, looking at the white patch on its forehead and its four white paws. “Monday?”
The dog barked joyfully: “Woof!”
Ling Xingcheng took a deep breath and looked at Fu Yin. “Where did you find this dog?”
Fu Yin looked dazed, clearly shocked. “Luoyun Village. I was there on a mission and picked up my Little Yellow. Hey, what are you going crazy for? Let go of me!”
“I’ve been looking for him for a f*cking month!” Ling Xingcheng gritted his teeth. “Do you know how I’ve spent this last month?!”
Translator’s Note: Hey everyone! Thanks for sticking with Yu An’s journey.
- Old and Faded Auntie (年老色衰的大妈): Little White is being particularly savage here. In Chinese, calling someone an “Auntie” (Dama) when they consider themselves young and beautiful is a massive insult.
- Fahai (法海): A reference to the “Legend of the White Snake,” where Fahai is a monk who tries to separate the human hero and his snake-demon wife. Lin Huaichen using this comparison is hilarious given the context!
- Green Tea (绿茶): As mentioned before, Little White is acting like a “Green Tea Bitch”—someone who acts innocent to manipulate others.
Hope you enjoyed it! See you in the next chapter~
