Little Monster Cub Chapter 20

Chapter 20: Auntie Ruoyi

In the half-hour that followed, Yu An heard countless phrases like “so cute,” “so lucky,” and “he’ll be extraordinary when he grows up.”

At the same time, parents with children around the same age brought their kids over, pushing them toward Lin Huaichen. “Let the children play together. We old fogies shouldn’t interfere.”

Lin Huaichen scanned the young boy before them and looked down at Yu An. “Want to play with this brother?”

Yu An’s nerves were pulled tight. He looked at the unfamiliar boy. The strange face gave him no sense of security, so he buried his face back into Lin Huaichen’s neck and refused muffledly, “No…”

Right now, he only wanted to be with his dad.

Lin Huaichen’s large hand gently stroked the back of the child’s head. His dark eyes looked at the parent. “Sorry. The child is a bit shy. I’m afraid we’ll have to decline.”

The parent nodded repeatedly, pulling his child back. “It’s his loss not being able to play with the Young Master.”

Yu An didn’t understand the business-like socialising. He wasn’t used to this occasion and simply clung to Lin Huaichen, clutching the white bird robot in his arms as he listened to it tell fairy tales.

“Hey!”

Someone tapped Yu An’s head. He looked up blankly to see a blonde girl with blue eyes smiling at him. She wore a blue-and-pink short skirt and had fluffy gold hair, looking like a brilliant little sun.

Beside her stood a girl with short hair, her arms crossed. Her features were strikingly similar to Ling Xingcheng’s but sharper and more aggressive—Ling Xingyue.

Yu An stared blankly at Ruoyi’s face. He had a faint guess in his heart and asked tentatively, “Auntie Most-Most?”

Ruoyi’s brow furrowed. “Who is Most-Most? Do you have another auntie besides me? How come I didn’t know about it?”

Didn’t Wen Yun only have two children—her and Wen Xun? Who was this “Most-Most”?

Not only was Ruoyi confused, but Lin Huaichen was also bewildered. But now wasn’t the time to obsess over who “Most-Most” was. He looked Ruoyi up and down. “What are you doing here?”

Wen Yun and her husband had said a few days ago that she wasn’t coming this time. Where had this little girl popped up from?

“None of your business.” Ruoyi looked annoyed just seeing Lin Huaichen. She looked around. “Where’s my brother?”

Lin Huaichen acted as if he hadn’t heard her and stepped around her. Ruoyi narrowed her eyes and ran in front of him to block his path. “If you don’t tell me, I can find him myself.”

With that, she opened her arms to Yu An. “Little guy, I’ll take you to find your Papa. Want to go?”

Yu An looked at Lin Huaichen and then at Ruoyi, his expression conflicted. He really wanted to go find Papa Wen, but would Papa Lin be lonely if he were by himself?

And Papa and Auntie’s relationship seemed very bad. If he went to Auntie’s side and Papa got sad, what should he do? But if he refused Auntie, she’d be sad too.

Yu An considered everyone’s feelings. He couldn’t think of a good solution and once again felt that having so many people around was truly exhausting.

Lin Huaichen and Ruoyi stared each other down for a few seconds. He took a long stride. “No need. I’ll take him to A-Xun myself. I don’t have anything else to do anyway.”

The assistant following Lin Huaichen took his signal and stepped in to finish the socialising in his place. Lin Huaichen carried Yu An toward Wen Xun.

Ruoyi followed behind Lin Huaichen, her mouth non-stop as she spoke to Yu An, “How old are you? You look so small.”

“It’s three~”

“That really is small. Why are you out with Lin Huaichen and not my brother? Do you like him more or my brother?”

Yu An stammered. This was a lethal question. No matter which one he chose, the other would be sad. “…I like both. I like Papas.”

Ruoyi looked at his scrunched-up small face and waved her hand. “Fine, fine. I won’t make it hard for you. Actually, I was planning to go to Blue Moon Bay to see you last month, but my god-awful, doomed-to-hell workplace wouldn’t let me leave. Otherwise, we would have met a month ago.”

Yu An remembered she was talking about the time all the grandparents had visited him. He was very sensible. “Auntie is busy with work. It’s very hard.”

Ruoyi agreed deeply. “It really is hard—working for a bunch of b*stards. It’s a mental and physical torture. Why don’t they just die? Why are they still alive to ruin people?”

“Cough-cough!” Lin Huaichen covered Yu An’s ears. “Watch your language. There’s a minor here.”

Yu An stared at Lin Huaichen with clear, large eyes, not understanding why his dad was covering his ears. He still wanted to chat with Auntie.

Ruoyi was careful with her words after that, not saying things children shouldn’t hear. The two actually had a very lively conversation. Ruoyi was energetic and talkative, always bringing up interesting topics that Yu An couldn’t help but join in on.

In the bustling hall, the area where Wen Xun was created a vacuum—almost no one dared to approach.

The class divisions among Kyoto’s noble families were extremely strict. Without an introduction from an acquaintance, the boundaries between classes were clear, and few dared to cross them.

Wen Xun saw Lin Huaichen bringing Yu An back and set his glass down in surprise, taking Yu An into his arms. Yu An sat obediently on his lap. Seeing the grandparents and grandpas all there, he waved his hand and called out to them one by one.

Ruoyi, seeing Wen Yun and Hicks were also there, stiffened. Like a mouse seeing a cat, she turned around to run.

Wen Yun’s voice was gentle yet held a trace of coldness. “Ruoyi, come back.”

Ling Xingyue pressed her hand on Ruoyi’s shoulder and pushed her toward them. Ruoyi had no choice but to lower her head in despair, looking listless as she returned to her parents. “Oh…”

Ling Xingyue also sat down next to Ling Xingcheng, giving him a look. Ling Xingcheng curled his lip and poured her a glass of wine.

Wen Xun’s chin rested on Yu An’s small head. “How did you run into them?”

He had assumed these two would hide until the end of the banquet.

Yu An smiled and took the milkshake cup Fu Yin handed him, saying thank you with a beam as he looked up. “Auntie came to find us.”

Wen Xun nodded and said no more.

Yi Ruxing was smiling as she introduced Yu An to her friends. “My precious grandson. Cute, right?”

Mrs. Wu watched Yu An sitting quietly in Wen Xun’s arms, holding a cup of ice cream and using a small spoon to dig into it. Every now and then, he would feed Wen Xun a bite, his exquisite eyes curving as if sharing delicious food brought him immense satisfaction and joy.

“He is a good child.” Mrs. Wu praised from the heart, thinking of the “demon king” in her own home. She sighed and patted Yi Ruxing’s hand. “You truly are lucky, Ruxing. Your child is excellent, and the grandson you got is so well-behaved.”

“Not like the two in my house. They’re driving me to an early grave. They insist on participating in the CAF Project, this—”

“Hey, hey, hey!”

Ruoyi interrupted Mrs. Wu’s words. Facing the confused gazes of the group, she pointed to her ear. “I have a bug in here. Don’t say anything important in front of me.”

The monitoring team far away in Country A: “…”

Is this something you can just say out loud?!

Total silence. Yu An was eating when he noticed the atmosphere was wrong. He looked at everyone blankly, turned his body to look at Lin Huaichen, and suddenly remembered he hadn’t shared with him yet, so he fed Lin Huaichen a bite of ice cream too.

Wen Xun was deeply suspicious. “Did you join a cult?”

“No, it’s your rivals—the research base in Country A.” Ruoyi gave a light cough. “They insisted I go. Currently, I’m the head of the CAF Project in Country A.”

Wen Xun: “…Were you threatened?”

Ruoyi gave him a “you understand me” look of trust, speaking piteously, “They took advantage of me getting drunk and cracked the files on my computer. If I violate the contract, they’ll post everything inside onto the internet.”

“What’s inside?”

“Many, many things… things that would cause my social death.” Ruoyi looked at everyone with an apologetic gaze. “Yours are in there too.”

Most of the people present had grown up together. Ruoyi had a habit of taking photos and collecting things. No one knew exactly what she had collected over the years.

Now, even the bystanders who had been watching for fun, like Fu Yin and Ling Xingcheng, sat up straight. Their hearts were hanging by a thread as they looked at Ruoyi.

Ruoyi recalled carefully. “I remember there’s a video of Xingcheng when he was one. Fu Yin was holding you to give you a bath. You were so excited you kicked around, and Fu Yin lost his grip. You went straight into the bathtub and sank to the bottom. Fu Yin was frantic trying to fish you out.”

Ling Xingcheng’s face instantly turned beet red. He pointed at Ruoyi, unable to speak, and finally chugged a whole bottle of ice water.

Wen Xun sighed and rubbed his temple. “How much memory?”

Ruoyi hesitated again, holding up one finger.

“5GB?”

“5TB.”

Wen Xun: “…”

He suddenly didn’t want to think about what was in that 5TB of memory. He was afraid he’d have a heart attack.
