Part 2
He even beckoned with his hand.
As if he were calling a puppy.
Ouyang Xiaoli was in a good mood and didn’t bother to argue, but his mouth twitched. “Still smelly. I’ll go to my room and spray some perfume.”
The little mermaid didn’t believe him. He climbed off the sofa, zipped over to the man, leaned in, and sniffed, even circling him once.
“Not smelly anymore.”
Xia Yi was very certain.
Ouyang Xiaoli was still going commando. It felt a bit like being a pervert. “I’m going back to my room first. Find something to eat yourself.”
His tone was a bit dismissive.
The little mermaid looked at him. “I know. Brother Ke Da said that when men go back to their rooms, they’re always up to no good. Are you going to do something bad too?”
Ouyang Xiaoli: “…”
Although the little mermaid wasn’t being explicit, any man knew what “doing something bad” meant. Ouyang Xiaoli’s face darkened.
“I’m not.”
The little mermaid said, “I don’t believe you.”
His tone was certain, as if he thought Ouyang Xiaoli was making excuses. His eyes were reproachful. “Brother Ke Da said this kind of thing is very normal. There’s no need to hold it in. I was just asking, I won’t…”
Xia Yi’s face flushed red.
He shyly lowered his head.
Ouyang Xiaoli was already numb to it. He knew that whenever he was with the little mermaid, nothing good ever came of it. In this little mermaid’s eyes, he was no different from a beast.
“You forgot to get me something, don’t you know that? Am I supposed to go commando and swing around while I cook you potatoes?”
Xia Yi imagined the scene in his head, his face turning an even deeper shade of red. He stammered, unable to say anything.
Ouyang Xiaoli snorted, turned, and went back to his room. Finally, some peace and quiet. He found a certain undergarment from the bottom of his wardrobe and put it on.
He closed the wardrobe door.
He suddenly remembered something.
The little mermaid had been here for half a month, sleeping on the sofa outside. Although it was wide enough, it wasn’t right for him to sleep there long-term.
Next to Ouyang Xiaoli’s room was a storage room, filled with too much junk. It would take some time to clean it up.
Ouyang Xiaoli thought for a moment.
The next day, Ouyang Xiaoli cleaned out the room. It was very dusty. He moved all the equipment to the balcony and piled it up.
It couldn’t be helped.
His apartment wasn’t that big. The storage room was meant for storage, and there was nowhere else to put the things he cleared out. Putting them in the main room would take up too much space.
Fortunately, the balcony was large enough.
About half the balcony was piled with junk. Xia Yi didn’t know what was going on. He sat on the sofa, occasionally swinging his feet.
He was in a pretty good mood.
The storage room was smaller than the master bedroom, but it was big enough for a small mermaid. A bed was placed inside, along with a wardrobe.
The little mermaid heard the commotion and trotted to the doorway to watch. “Whose room is this?” he asked.
“Not yours, anyway.”
Ouyang Xiaoli crossed his arms.
“Liar.” The little mermaid wasn’t falling for it. He squeezed through the gap between the man and the door. “I’m the only one living here with you.”
He had clearly guessed.
His eyes danced with joy.
Ouyang Xiaoli watched the little mermaid’s happy expression for a long time before looking away. “…Have the potatoes in the pot sprouted yet?”
Xia Yi was surprised. “You knew.”
He had always thought Ouyang didn’t care much about the soil, that only he and Ke Da were anxiously waiting for the potatoes to grow.
Ouyang Xiaoli said, “You and Ke Da have been guarding that pot of soil every day. Anyone with eyes could see it.”
“Oh.”
Xia Yi chattered on, seemingly with endless things to say, gesturing excitedly. “The potatoes are growing very well. Brother Ke Da said they’re the healthiest potatoes he’s ever seen in his life. He also said that in the future, the underground city will have lots and lots of potatoes, so we won’t have to go hungry. We can also grow vegetables and fruits, and plant lots of saplings!”
Ouyang Xiaoli looked at the little mermaid.
The little mermaid’s voice suddenly dropped. “Brother Ke Da cried. It was the first time I’d ever seen him cry. But he said it was just sand in his eyes.”
“I should have come sooner.”
A spot in Ouyang Xiaoli’s heart felt as if it had been gently squeezed. He paused, his eyes complex as he looked at the little mermaid.
If the little mermaid knew his original purpose for bringing him back, would he be disappointed?
He, Ouyang Xiaoli.
Had never been a good person.
Traces of the Zerg had already appeared in the underground city. Three or four people had been bitten and had died in agony. Panic spread through all four cities, and few people dared to go out.
Xia Yi leaned over the railing, looking down.
That slave, Xiao Ya, would come to the corner of the wall downstairs every day to see him. When he saw him looking, he would immediately grin, a silly and innocent smile.
“Ah!”
A scream came from the distance.
Xia Yi shot up. He saw Xiao Ya being bitten by a red ant the size of a goose egg. Xiao Ya’s face instantly turned pale.
He seemed afraid of worrying the little mermaid, and even managed a forced smile, signaling that he was fine.
But the immense pain made his entire soul feel as if it were being torn apart. He trembled violently, and finally, with great willpower, he moved behind the wall so the little mermaid wouldn’t see his miserable state.
He couldn’t let the little mermaid save him again.
What had he, Xiao Ya, ever done to deserve being saved twice by the little mermaid? If his ancestors knew about this, they would probably climb out of their graves to beat him.
Xiao Ya barely managed to stay conscious.
Just then, he heard a series of screams from the surrounding streets. They must have been bitten too. Those who were bitten never lived for more than two days.
Xiao Ya’s eyes grew moist.
Thanks to Ouyang’s instructions over the past few days, Ke Da and Xia Yi both knew about the Zerg. Xia Yi now recognized it as a low-level Zerg.
“Xia Yi, don’t go out!” Knowing that Xia Yi wanted to go out and save the slave, Ke Da stopped him. “The boss told me to watch you and not let you go out. The Zerg are invading right now. You’ll be walking to your death!”
“Xiao Ya was bitten by a Zerg.”
Xia Yi’s expression was anxious.
Although he didn’t know Xiao Ya very well, he knew that Xiao Ya didn’t have a bad heart. He had misunderstood before. Xiao Ya wasn’t after Ouyang, but him. He came downstairs every day to secretly watch him.
Such a person.
Xia Yi couldn’t bear to watch him die.
“That’s his fate. When the Zerg invaded before, countless people died.” Ke Da bit his lip, turning his head away, his voice choked. “…There’s nothing we can do. We have no weapons, only the coal bombs.”
And the coal bombs couldn’t be used lightly. They had to wait until the Zerg reached a certain number to maximize their effect.
They were usually reserved for emergencies.
Xia Yi remembered that Ouyang had brought back a few quantum cannons from the Silver Sea Empire last time. He quickly ran to the pile of junk on the balcony and rummaged through it, but couldn’t find them.
“The boss took those quantum cannons. He, Tang Si, and the others are guarding the entrance. There will only be more Zerg there, not less.”
Xia Yi collapsed onto the ground.
He looked downstairs. Xiao Ya was gone, but he knew he was hiding behind the wall. Xia Yi wiped his eyes, feeling miserable.
What could he do now?
Nothing at all.
Just then, a crimson object crawled up the wall and onto the balcony. Xia Yi froze, seeing a Zerg up close for the first time.
The large red ant was only half a meter away from Xia Yi. It leaped nimbly, aiming for Xia Yi’s neck, its movement incredibly fast in that instant.
Ke Da’s face changed dramatically!
He had been holding a dagger, but the red ant’s speed was too fast. He had no time to slice it in half. His heart sank…
Splat!
The large red ant was split in two.
The air fell silent.
Xia Yi was dazed. It took him a long moment to react. He looked down at his hand. No, it could no longer be called a hand. There was webbing between his fingers.
The edge of the webbing glinted with a cold, sharp light. The movement had been so fast that it wasn’t even stained with the Zerg’s blood. It was clean.
The webbing retracted and extended.
Xia Yi still looked bewildered.
Ke Da: “…”
