MERFOLK SURVIVAL RULES CHAPTER 23.3

Part 3

Xia Yi didn’t stay dazed for long. He stood up and first looked at Ke Da. Ke Da stumbled back, as if afraid the little mermaid would slash him too. The power of that single swipe had been too shocking.

“I’m going down.”

Xia Yi’s eyes were firm.

Before Ke Da could say anything, the little mermaid continued, “Those Zerg have no intelligence. There must be a high-level Zerg commanding them from behind.”

“We can’t kill all the low-level Zerg; there are too many. We have to lure out the high-level Zerg to solve the problem.”

Ke Da sighed. “The boss has naturally thought of what you’re thinking. But the high-level Zerg are very cunning. They won’t be easily tricked.”

“We have to try.”

Xia Yi was very stubborn.

By now, he was proficient in using his mental power, and he found that his mental sea had expanded a lot. Opening the door was more than easy.

And so, Ke Da watched as the mermaid before him brazenly “jailbroke.”

He could only follow.

Xia Yi quickly found Xiao Ya’s location. Xiao Ya was repeatedly drifting between agony-induced unconsciousness and lucidity. His face was deathly pale and drenched in sweat.

Then, a warm current slowly enveloped him, easing his pain. It was so familiar.

Xiao Ya slowly opened his eyes.

He almost burst into tears, his emotions wavering between collapse and guilt. Little Yu had saved him again, and had taken such a huge risk to come downstairs.

Xiao Ya gritted his teeth and pushed him away. “Go back!”

“Don’t worry about me.”

Ke Da saw Xia Yi stumble back a couple of steps and immediately became angry, pointing at Xiao Ya. “Don’t be ungrateful! You dare push him again?!”

“Take him back,” Xiao Ya pleaded, on the verge of breaking down.

Ke Da was stunned. He subconsciously looked at Xia Yi beside him. Xia Yi had his head down, continuing to heal him as if he hadn’t heard anything.

Meanwhile, Ouyang Xiaoli received Ke Da’s communication and learned that the little mermaid had gone downstairs, and that it wasn’t safe upstairs either, as Zerg had invaded.

His expression darkened.

Tang Si, beside him, had already been bitten but was still gritting his teeth and fighting, throwing a coal briquette bomb into a swarm of Zerg. He cursed loudly, “Damn it, just a bunch of stupid bugs, nothing special! Watch me blast their descendants to kingdom come, leave them with no place to be buried, maybe even roast and eat them!”

Xiao Mo was also struggling. “Save your energy. There’s probably another wave coming. Damn it.” For a rare moment, Xiao Mo couldn’t help but swear.

Only Ouyang Xiaoli remained calm.

He turned off his terminal, staring at the dense swarm of red ants before him, his lips pressed into a thin line. Tang Si was bitten, Xiao Mo was exhausted. He couldn’t just leave them and go back. Besides, there were too many low-level Zerg. If the defenses here broke, the casualties in the underground city would be even higher.

He thought of the little mermaid.

Ouyang Xiaoli closed his eyes.

He should be fine, right?

Didn’t the Great Elder say the little mermaid was the hope of the underground city? Then let him see if this hope could bring the underground city back from the brink of death.

The stalemate continued.

Xiao Ya had recovered his strength. The spot where he had been bitten by the low-level Zerg no longer hurt; it was as good as new.

“The Zerg look like ants, so I think they might like sweets.” Thinking of this, Xia Yi became a little worried. “…Brother Ke Da, the underground city seems very poor. Do you have any sugar?”

Ke Da said, “…Yes.”

He informed him seriously, “Although our underground city is poor, the economy has always been balanced. Except for a slight shortage of food, we have everything else we should have. Otherwise, things would have been chaotic long ago.”

“I understand.”

Xia Yi nodded obediently.

He had once found an ancient book that described the economic laws of ancient Earth. Social stability was built on balance.

For example, on ancient Earth, if everyone was given a hundred million for free, the balance would be broken. The person who sold pork would have a hundred million and would no longer raise pigs. The person who sold rice would have a hundred million and would no longer grow crops. Everyone would have a hundred million and no one would want to work. Then, when you wanted to eat, where would the rice come from? If you wanted to eat pork, who would raise it for you?

Although the underground city was dilapidated, it had at least maintained a balance, with trade.

This was a good sign.

While Ke Da was running an errand to get sugar, several more low-level Zerg ambushed Xiao Ya and Xia Yi, but Xia Yi took care of them all.

The ground was littered with Zerg corpses.

Xia Yi waited until the flowers wilted, but Ke Da still hadn’t returned. Suddenly, a chill ran down his spine. His sixth sense told him there was danger. He dodged!

The wall he had been leaning against was pierced by a large hole. A man in black attacked him again.

Xia Yi dodged again and again.

He was thankful for the many times he had fought with sharks in the sea. He had learned some skills. Otherwise, he would have been in big trouble today.

“Who are you?”

He glared at the man in black.

The man in black babbled on, and Xia Yi didn’t understand a single word. But he could feel the man’s intense hostility towards him. He stared at his face, as if he wanted to tear it to shreds. It was very sinister.

Xia Yi’s arm was scratched.

The hood on the man’s head slipped off, revealing two long antennae, like an ant’s. Xia Yi’s eyes widened.

A high-level Zerg?

But why did this high-level Zerg hate him so much? He didn’t remember ever seeing this person. Was it because he had just killed so many low-level Zerg, so this person was angry and wanted revenge?

At this moment, Xia Yi had no idea how much trouble his face had brought him.

All the high-level Zerg remembered this face, because just half a month ago, a person with this face had caused their Zerg forces to suffer heavy casualties, a truly慘不忍睹 sight!

That person was cold and ruthless.

He had aroused the public outrage of the Zerg.

Among the high-level Zerg, that face had been publicized, so all the high-level Zerg recognized it. The Zerg gritted their teeth in secret.

They all wanted to teach this person a lesson.

The man in black continued to babble. Xia Yi didn’t understand, but he felt that the other was cursing him, so he immediately became unhappy.

Of course, he also guessed that this man in black was probably a high-level Zerg.

Because the antennae were too obvious.

Right now, Xia Yi’s only advantage was his mental power. He focused his mind, and his mental power shot towards the high-level Zerg like sharp needles!

The high-level Zerg snorted coldly and resisted with its own mental power, even faintly overpowering him.

Sweat began to bead on Xia Yi’s forehead.

“The honey is here!” Ke Da rushed over with a large jar of honey and, without a word, threw it at the man in black with great momentum.

The man in black smelled the sweet scent, and his vision began to swim, as if he were drunk.

He fell to the ground, greedily licking the honey on the ground and the sweet nectar on his body, as if he had lost his mind and was left with only instinct.

The next second, he transformed into his true form.

It was a giant red ant, about the size of a seven or eight-year-old child. Its eyes were only for the honey; it cared for nothing else.

The three of them looked at each other.

Xiao Ya quickly reminded him, “Little Yu, don’t just stand there! Quickly use your mental power to attack him while he’s still disoriented!”

Xia Yi also snapped back to reality. The fight with this large red ant had consumed a lot of his mental power, but it quickly replenished.

He unleashed his mental power attack, and the high-level Zerg crashed into the honey with a splat, motionless.

Many of the surrounding low-level Zerg lost their direction, probably because they had lost the guidance of the high-level Zerg. But they smelled the sweet scent and followed their instincts to the honey, where they were all taken care of by Xia Yi in one fell swoop.
