Mr. Popular Is Being Targeted Yet Again Chapter 27

Chapter 27: What… Did You Guys Do Last Night?

Early morning.

Jiang Qing groggily opened his eyes, habitually trying to stretch, only to find himself completely immobilized.

A heavy, restricting sensation came from his side.

He frowned, looking downβ€”

Jiang Linmu was clinging to him like an octopus. One leg was unceremoniously thrown across his stomach, an arm was tightly wrapped around his neck, and his head was resting on half of his shoulder. He was sleeping so soundly that drool was about to drip onto Jiang Qing’s pajamas.

A vein throbbed on Jiang Qing’s temple. The bit of warmth and pity from last night instantly evaporated into thin air.

He tried to move, but Jiang Linmu mumbled something in his sleep and actually wrapped around him even tighter.

Jiang Qing took a deep breath.

If it’s unbearable, then there’s no need to bear it.

He suddenly lifted his unpinned leg, showing absolutely no mercyβ€”

Bang!

“Ow, fuckβ€”!”

A muffled thud accompanied by Jiang Linmu’s painful yelp shattered the morning tranquility.

Jiang Linmu was kicked entirely onto the carpet. He clutched his kicked butt, looking up at the bed in sheer bewilderment.

Jiang Qing was already sitting up. His face was dark, his eyes looking like they wanted to murder someone.

He pointed at the door: “Jiang, Lin, Mu!”

“I’m giving you three seconds to immediately, right this instant, get out of my bed and out of my sightβ€””

“Get. Out.”

Jiang Linmu was thoroughly awake now. Scrambling to his feet and ignoring the pain in his butt, he hugged Jiang Qing’s pillow and pitifully muttered in defense: “Brother… last night I…”

“Two!” Jiang Qing didn’t listen at all, starting the countdown.

Jiang Linmu jumped in fright. Without looking back, he dashed out of Jiang Qing’s bedroom, even considerately pulling the door shut behind him.

The world was finally peaceful again.

Jiang Qing collapsed back onto the bed, pulling the covers over his head in an attempt to resume his interrupted sleep.

Sure enough, warmth doesn’t survive the night.

As for brothers, it’s most comfortable to just kick them off.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

Downstairs in the living room.

Jiang Yu and Su Lin sat opposite each other on the sofas, separated by a coffee table holding two cups of steaming clear tea.

Wearing loungewear, Jiang Yu looked at Su Lin, getting straight to the point:

“Regarding your identity, our parents’ intention is to make it public as soon as possible. They want you to legitimately return to the Jiang family and don’t want you to suffer any grievances.”

The hand Su Lin used to hold the teacup paused, the rising steam blurring his expression. He was silent for a few seconds before answering: “I understand their good intentions. But… is it really necessary to make such a big fanfare?”

Jiang Yu seemed to have anticipated this question: “It is necessary. This is not just a ceremony, but the Jiang family’s formal recognition and declaration of your identity. It will save you from a lot of unnecessary trouble and gossip in the future.” He paused, then added.

“Of course, we will fully respect your wishes. If you’re uncomfortable with it right now, we can choose a milder approach, such as a small gathering within the family first…”

“No need.” Su Lin interrupted him, “Just do as Mom and Dad wish.”

This time it was Jiang Yu’s turn to be slightly surprised. He originally thought Su Lin would be more resistant to being exposed under the spotlight.

Su Lin seemed to see through his confusion, explaining lightly: “Since I’ve decided to face it, hiding it will only make me look cowardly. I also don’t want Jiang Linmu to endure unnecessary speculation and pressure in the future because of my appearance.”

Jiang Yu’s gaze rested on Su Lin’s face for a moment.

“Alright.” Jiang Yu nodded. “I will arrange this matter personally. The date is set for next weekend. It will be held at a hotel owned by the group. We will host a formal banquet, inviting close families and the media.”

He looked at Su Lin, his tone softening a bit: “At that time, both you and Jiang Linmu will be present. Our entire family will be there. Don’t worry, I’ll handle everything.”

Su Lin nodded slightly: “Thank you, Big Brother.”

“We’re family, there’s no need for thanks.” Jiang Yu picked up his teacup and took a sip.

Before he could even swallow, a loud “Thud!” suddenly came from upstairs.

“Brother!!…” Jiang Linmu’s cries of agony echoed intermittently from above.

“Get! Out!”

“Pfftβ€””

Jiang Yu almost choked on a mouthful of tea. Swallowing it down with difficulty, he and Su Lin both froze simultaneously, looking up toward the second floor in unison.

They saw the door to Jiang Qing’s bedroom open with a “click.” Jiang Linmu, clutching his butt, clothes disheveled, stumbled backward out of the room with a face full of grievance and panic.

As he retreated, he even very “considerately” and quietly pulled the door shut for Jiang Qing, terrified that if he moved too slowly, a slipper would fly out from inside.

After doing all this, Jiang Linmu finally let out a sigh of relief. Turning around, he was just about to sneak back to his own roomβ€”

And then, he met two sets of simultaneous, complexly meaningful gazes shooting up from the living room downstairs.

“…”

A few seconds later, Jiang Linmu’s face turned explosively red at a visible rate. He shot up straight, frantically trying to smooth out his wrinkled pajamas, stammering as he tried to explain:

“B-Big Brother! Su… Brother Su Lin! G-good morning! I… um… my brother he… no… we…”

The more he spoke, the messier it got. Finally, under Jiang Yu’s gaze and Su Lin’s stare, he completely gave up the struggle. Lowering his head like a quail, he wished he could find a crack in the floor to crawl into.

“What… did you guys do last night?”

“We didn’t do anything!” Jiang Linmu yelled out almost as a conditioned reflex, his voice cracking. “Really! Big Brother, you have to believe me! I just… I just couldn’t sleep last night, so I went to find my brother to chat… and then… and then… I accidentally fell asleep!”

His voice grew quieter the more he spoke, particularly lacking confidence right at the “accidentally fell asleep” part.

After all, what kind of “chat” requires moving onto someone else’s bed and getting kicked off?

Wait, no!

Wasn’t it true that he literally didn’t do anything????!!!!

Jiang Yu’s gaze swept over his wrinkled pajamas and flushed cheeks, then lifted his eyes to look at the tightly shut bedroom door on the second floor. The suspicion in his eyes didn’t lessen one bit.

Su Lin sat to the side, quietly sipping his tea.

Right at that moment, the door to Jiang Qing’s room on the second floor was yanked open with a loud “Bang.”

Sporting a messy bedhead, Jiang Qing stood there with a face as dark as the bottom of a pot. His entire body exuded a low-pressure aura that screamed Death to those who disturb my sweet dreams:

“Jiang Linmu, you’re so damn noisy! Keep yelling and see if I don’t throw you out the window!”

After he finished roaring, he finally seemed to notice Jiang Yu and Su Lin downstairs. Irritably scratching his hair, “Big Brother, morning. And… Su Lin.”

The greeting was incredibly perfunctory. Then, he glared fiercely at Jiang Linmu: “You, disappear right now!”

Jiang Linmu felt as if he had been granted a grand pardon. No longer caring to explain, he gave a hasty bow to Jiang Yu and Su Lin, then darted back to his own room like a startled rabbit, slamming the door shut with a “Bang”.

Jiang Qing let out a massive yawn. Without giving downstairs another look, he rubbed his neck, turned around to head back into his room, and shut the door with a “Bang.”

Downstairs in the living room, peace was finally restored.

Jiang Yu watched this entire string of farcical events. After a moment of silence, he could only shake his head helplessly and say to Su Lin: “…Just get used to it.”

Su Lin looked at the two tightly shut bedroom doors on the second floor, then looked at this eldest brother beside him who was clearly already accustomed to it, and nodded calmly.
