Chapter 45: I Can Do Something Else for You Too
Xia Yinlan looked at her brother, who was still sitting grandly in the seat Jiang Qing had just occupied. One arm was draped over the back of the chair, and his fingertips were idly tapping the table, but his eyes were drifting toward the door—he was clearly daydreaming. She couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
“What’s wrong? You haven’t even started dating and you’re already lovesick?”
“Yeah. I miss him terribly.”
“……”
Xia Yinlan felt that if she rolled her eyes any further, she’d be able to see her own brain.
“Is our Qingqing really someone you can just pester?” Xia Yinlan poked Xia Yinhan’s forehead irritably. “Wake up. Look at his status and then look at yours. If a toad wants to eat swan meat, he should at least check how much he weighs first.”
Her words were harsh, but Xia Yinlan knew that if she didn’t pour some cold water on him, her brother—who tended to lose all restraint once he got hooked on something—might do something even more ridiculous.
To her surprise, Xia Yinhan wasn’t discouraged. Instead, he grinned. “What’s wrong with being a toad? What if our Qingqing likes eating ‘down-to-earth’ food? Besides, your brother is quite handsome, has excellent skills, and runs a successful business. How am I not a match?”
“Why aren’t the lice on your body as confident as you are? If your skin gets any thicker, hospitals will be lining up to use you as a living skin graft bank.”
“That’s not bad actually, becoming a hospital material bank.”
“Next time you go to the park to buy a goldfish, don’t bother asking the shopkeeper for water. Just put a plastic bag over your head. It beautifies the environment and saves on the water bill.”
“Lao mei, we haven’t seen each other in a while and your tongue is still just as poisonous. In the future, scientists will have to extract venom from your mouth to make serum; no other samples are as potent as yours.” Xia Yinhan gave Xia Yinlan a thumbs-up. “Stop praising me, I won’t get arrogant.”
Xia Yinlan rolled her eyes again. She felt that saying one more word to this brother, whose skin was thicker than a city wall, was a waste of her life. She turned and walked away decisively.
Out of sight, out of mind.
Xia Yinhan watched Xia Yinlan leave, then looked down thoughtfully at the leftover caramel pudding Jiang Qing hadn’t finished.
Five minutes later, the caramel pudding was gone.

Jiang Qing finally managed to coax the sobbing Jiang Limu into bed. When the other party once again requested “sleeping together” services, Jiang Qing flatly refused.
“Do you have any idea how much my body aches every time I sleep with you?” Jiang Qing pinched the bridge of his nose. “You’re a terrible sleeper. You either pin my legs down or put me in a chokehold with your arm. Last time, you almost kicked me out of bed. Jiang Limu, you’re not a three-year-old anymore. Sleep on your own.”
Wrapped in his duvet, Jiang Limu only showed his eyes, which were still slightly red from crying, as he looked at him pitifully. “Ge, please just say yes… I promise I won’t move around this time!”
“That’s what you said last time.”
“…….Last time? Who’s that? We don’t have anyone named ‘Last Time’ in our family.”
“Jiang Limu, is your skin itching for a beating? I wouldn’t mind pulling your head off and donating it to a hotpot restaurant as a free source of pig brains.”
Jiang Limu almost instantly pulled the covers over his head and rolled over, leaving Jiang Qing with a lonely, heartbroken silhouette.
The entire sequence of movements was smooth and seamless.
Jiang Qing didn’t bother with him further. He walked to the door, said “Goodnight,” and pushed it open to walk out.
Just as he turned to softly close the door, he caught a glimpse of a figure out of the corner of his eye and flinched in surprise.
Su Lin was leaning against the wall nearby. Who knew how long he had been watching?
Seeing Jiang Qing come out, he smiled and scanned him from head to toe, then mouthed a greeting.
Good evening, Gege.
“……”
Standing there like that, who can tell if you’re a person or a ghost?
Jiang Qing waved him over, signaling that if there was something to talk about, they should do it in his bedroom. Then, he led the way.
Su Lin didn’t make a sound and followed obediently behind him.
Jiang Qing went straight to his bedroom at the end of the hallway. He pushed open the door and stepped aside to let Su Lin in first before following and closing the door behind them.
“Sit.” Jiang Qing pointed to the armchair by the window while he sat in the chair behind his desk, maintaining a polite distance from Su Lin.
“Is something the matter?”
“Gege looks very tired.”
“I’m alright. But Young Master Su’s late-night visit shouldn’t be just to ask if I’m tired.”
Su Lin curled his lips into a smile.
“Why aren’t you calling me ‘Bartender Su’ anymore?”
“‘Bartender Su’ is the title for Yunye. Here—”
“You are just Su Lin.”
“Is there a difference? In Yunye, I mix drinks for you. Here…”
He paused. “I can do something else for you too.”
“How come I never noticed you had two faces before?”
Jiang Qing looked at Su Lin.
The plot had now veered off by a hundred thousand miles. Instead of playing the role of a frail little white flower in front of Jiang Yu, Su Lin had come to his room in the middle of the night to tell him he wanted… something else.
“You show up uninvited in the middle of the night just to say these nonsensical things? If Young Master Su is so bored, there are plenty of people in Yunye who would love to play this kind of game with you.”
“But they aren’t you.” Su Lin replied quickly, as if he had been waiting for that. He stood up and slowly paced around the desk to Jiang Qing’s side.
Jiang Qing could smell the faint scent coming from him. It wasn’t perfume, but more like the refreshing scent of a recent shower mixed with a hint of coolness.
“Jiang Qing,” Su Lin rarely used his name without the “Gege” honorific. The name rolled off his tongue with an unusual sense of intimacy. “Don’t always push me away.”
He stopped beside Jiang Qing’s chair and leaned down slightly. “You know, I’m much harder to get rid of than Jiang Limu.”
“Hard to get rid of?” Jiang Qing’s gaze slowly swept over Su Lin’s hand resting on the back of his chair, finally landing on those smiling eyes.
“Su Lin, have you forgotten that this is my room?”
“Allowing you in was a courtesy.”
“It wasn’t an invitation.”
The smile on Su Lin’s lips flickered for a second. “Is Gege angry?”
“Why should I be angry?” Jiang Qing countered. He looked at him and suddenly laughed. “An ill-mannered brat breaks into my room at night and says some ambiguous things… If I got angry every time, wouldn’t I have died from rage long ago?”
“Now, tell me your business. If there isn’t any, the door is behind you. Leave on your own.”
[Author’s Note: So sorry, this author misremembered. There will be some ‘action’ scenes around Chapter 50 or so. I might post the explicit parts directly on my social media (VB), as I’m afraid those descriptions will get censored here…]
Translator’s Note: Su Lin is finally making his move! The “two faces” Jiang Qing mentions refers to Su Lin’s transition from the polite bartender to this more aggressive, flirtatious persona. Also, the “brain flower” (脑花) Jiang Qing mentions is a common dish in hotpot (pig brains)—he’s basically threatening to turn Limu into dinner! — Your friendly neighborhood translator.
