Birthday Extra 1: Fox Baby
[Author’s note: Whatever. I’ll just write a birthday extra for this book too.
Baby’s birthday is 11.23, the day the birthday extra ends is exactly his birthday.
Qingqing baby can celebrate his birthday on both sides, and there will be lots and lots of people pampering him and accompanying him on both sides.
If Jiang Qing in this book were to be given an animal persona, it would lean more towards a fox, whereas the other book leans towards a cat.]
—————————
Jiang Qing woke up in the morning to find something wasn’t quite right.
He blinked, then rubbed his eyes forcefully, but the reflection in the mirror remained entirely unchanged.
That wasn’t him.
Or rather, that wasn’t how his twenty-something-year-old body should look.
Standing in the mirror was a boy who looked no older than seven or eight, sporting a head of messy black hair and pale skin. The most bizarre thing was that from that messy hair, two fluffy, russet-brown fox ears were sticking straight up.
“This is impossible…” he muttered to himself, his voice coming out as a crisp, childish chirp.
Jiang Qing subconsciously took a step back, but staggered a bit unsteadily. At that very moment, he felt something behind him hindering his movement—a fluffy, soft, russet-brown fox tail was swishing uneasily behind his back.
He whipped his head around to look at his back. That tail was genuinely growing out of his tailbone. He hesitantly reached out to touch it, and the tip of the tail twitched sensitively, sending a strange sensation through him.
“This is… my tail?” he said softly in disbelief.
Jiang Qing raised a trembling hand and gently touched the ears on top of his head. The warm sensation transmitted from his fingertips made him shudder all over. The pair of ears seemed to have a mind of their own, twitching sensitively at his touch.
He rolled up his overly large sleeves, discovering that his entire person had shrunk several sizes, his clothes hanging off his body like potato sacks.
“What… did I turn into?”
—————————
Jiang Yu looked up at the wall clock.
Seven-thirty.
This was too unusual.
Normally at this time, he would already be up early, using his suona to sing praises to the world.
But today, upstairs was so quiet it made one panic.
Jiang Yu frowned.
Although it was possible his younger brother had just overslept…
He should still go upstairs and take a look.
Jiang Yu stopped in front of Jiang Qing’s bedroom and raised a hand to knock on the door.
“Jiang Qing? Are you alright?”
A rustling sound came from inside, like someone was frantically trying to hide, accompanied by a soft gasp.
Jiang Yu’s heart sank. He hesitated no longer, turning the doorknob and pushing the door open.
“Jiang Qing, what exactly are you—”
His words caught in his throat.
In the room, a boy looking around seven or eight years old was frantically trying to burrow under the covers to hide something. But that pair of russet-brown ears, which clearly didn’t belong to a human, and the fluffy tail poking out from the edge of the blanket and sweeping back and forth, were simply too conspicuous.
The boy lifted his head, revealing a face startlingly identical to Jiang Qing’s childhood appearance.
“Brother…”
“I… I can explain…”
Jiang Yu quickly stepped forward and pulled back the covers.
The sight beneath the blanket made his breath hitch—
A complete Jiang Qing, complete with fox ears and a tail.
Jiang Yu’s mind went blank for a few seconds.
“You’re…” He subconsciously reached out his hand, but stopped right before touching the pair of ears.
Countless thoughts flashed through his mind: What kind of strange illness is this? Genetic mutation? Or some rare viral infection? I need to contact the hospital immediately… but how am I supposed to explain this situation?
However, amidst these chaotic thoughts, an inappropriate emotion quietly surfaced.
After shrinking…
He’s so cute.
Jiang Yu coughed lightly, forcefully suppressing the urge to pinch his cheeks and rub his ears. He took a deep breath and sat down on the edge of the bed:
“Is there anywhere that feels uncomfortable? Headache? Or body aches?”
Jiang Qing shook his head.
“Brother… did I turn into a monster?”
That “Brother” melted Jiang Yu’s heart completely into a puddle. He finally couldn’t hold back, reaching out to gently rub Jiang Qing’s head—it was exactly as soft as he had imagined.
Like.
Like like like like like like.
So much like like like like like.
“Don’t be afraid,” Jiang Yu softened his voice. “No matter what you turn into, you are my little brother. Let’s get something to eat first, and then we’ll slowly figure out a solution, okay?”
Jiang Qing keenly caught the flash of emotion in his brother’s eyes. That tail, which had only been lightly curling around, immediately pushed its luck, wrapping around Jiang Yu’s wrist, the tip of the tail rubbing fawningly against his palm.
“Brother…” he dragged out the end of his sentence, “I can’t walk…”
As he spoke, the fox ears on top of his head cooperatively drooped down.
Jiang Yu’s breath hitched.
Who could possibly withstand this.
He forced himself to remain composed: “Then… I’ll help you down?”
Jiang Qing immediately shook his head: “Carry…”
Before the word even finished dropping, that tail had already impatiently wrapped around Jiang Yu’s waist.
Jiang Yu felt that his heart rate was probably about to break the Guinness World Record.
He was silent for three seconds before finally accepting his fate, leaning over and carefully scooping him up into his arms sideways.
Jiang Qing immediately and triumphantly buried his head into the crook of his neck, rubbing against his jaw.
“Brother is the best…” Jiang Qing whispered low by his ear.
Jiang Yu held him stiffly, feeling the fluffy sensation against his neck and the gentle wrapping of the tail around his waist, stepping carefully down the stairs one by one.

Jiang Linmu had actually gotten a rare, peaceful night of sleep today.
He stretched lazily, then noticed something was wrong.
Wait.
Why was there no specific daily alarm today??
Jiang Linmu sprang up from his bed. Sunlight was already brightly covering half of his bedroom.
Ten-oh-seven.
This time made his heart skip a beat—it was too quiet, abnormally quiet.
Ever since Jiang Qing got obsessed with playing the suona, he hadn’t had the luxury of sleeping until the sun was high in the sky.
Jiang Qing’s unwavering “Morning Ode” was more accurate than an alarm clock and louder than a rooster’s crow.
But today…
Jiang Linmu perked up his ears. The entire house was so quiet he could hear his own heartbeat.
An ominous premonition crept into his heart.
He didn’t dare think too deeply, haphazardly putting on his slippers and rushing out the door. The hallway was empty, and Jiang Qing’s door was slightly ajar. He crossed the distance in three strides and pushed the door open—
The room was empty. The blanket was piled messily on the bed, and the pillow still held the indent of someone having slept on it.
Jiang Linmu’s heart sank.
He whipped around and practically sprinted down the stairs. The aroma of fried eggs drifted from the kitchen, faintly mixed with…
“Brother~ give me another slice of ham.”
A voice he had never heard before came from the direction of the dining room.
Jiang Linmu froze at the bottom of the stairs.
Jiang Yu was bending over, feeding a fried egg to a little boy with fox ears and a tail.
“Eat slowly,” Jiang Yu’s voice was unbelievably gentle. He cut a small piece of ham and handed it over, “It’s all yours.”
Jiang Linmu opened his mouth, taking a long time to find his voice:
“Jiang Yu… th-this child is…?”
Hearing the voice, the little boy turned his head. The moment he saw Jiang Linmu, his eyes lit up:
“Brother Linmu!”
That familiar look, that intonation…
Jiang Linmu’s legs gave out, and he supported himself against the doorframe.
“Jiang Qing…?!”
Seeing Jiang Linmu’s expression, Jiang Qing finally couldn’t hold back and burst out laughing.
“Hahahahahahahahaha Jiang Linmu hahahahahahahahaha were you about to bow to me for New Year’s just now?”
“I just shrank a little, why are you so shocked?”
Actually, what shocked Jiang Linmu was that “Brother Linmu.” But he didn’t explain.
Jiang Linmu finally recovered his senses. He walked to the dining table, looking at this brother who was now a huge chunk shorter than him.
He reached out and pinched Jiang Qing’s cheek—the texture was incredibly good.
“Believe it or not, I’ll chop your hand off.”
Jiang Linmu pushed his luck and gently tugged on that pair of ears.
“Jiang Linmu!”
“Who should be calling who ‘Brother’ now?” Jiang Linmu said leisurely, poking his cheek again.
“Come on, call me Brother Linmu again so I can hear. I didn’t quite catch it just now.”
“…”
Jiang Qing expressionlessly punched him in the face.
“Calling you ‘Brother’ once really gave you an addiction. Have some shame, will you.”
Jiang Linmu let out an “Ow” and took half a step back, covering his face.
“Brother! Why do you still hit people even when you’ve shrunk!” Jiang Linmu was aggrieved, but his eyes were shining brightly.
Jiang Yu shot Jiang Linmu a disapproving look. He pulled Jiang Qing closer to his side and expertly cut the bacon on the plate: “Ignore him.”
Jiang Qing smugly raised his chin at Jiang Linmu, then opened his mouth.
Jiang Yu immediately fed a small piece of egg-coated bacon into his mouth.
Watching this scene, Jiang Linmu’s eyes widened even more.
“Eldest Brother, you…” he didn’t know what to say for a moment.
Jiang Yu remained completely unfazed. After feeding Jiang Qing another spoonful of milk oatmeal, he finally spoke flatly: “It’s inconvenient for him to eat by himself like this.” Jiang Qing cooperatively swung his legs.
Exactly where… is it inconvenient…
Right at that moment, the doorbell rang.
Jiang Yu’s movements paused, Jiang Qing’s ears instantly perked up in alert, and Jiang Linmu also looked nervously toward the door.
If this state was seen by an outsider…
Jiang Yu put down the utensils and said to Jiang Qing in a low voice: “You and Linmu stay here, don’t come out.” He stood up and left.
Jiang Qing immediately got off the chair, pulling the still-shocked Jiang Linmu along, and swish—they ducked behind the wide tablecloth under the dining table. Because of the rush, his tail almost wasn’t hidden in time, and Jiang Linmu frantically stuffed it inside.
The door opened, and Song Lingchen’s voice came from outside:
“Morning, Brother Yu! Where’s Qingqing? We agreed to go out today…”
His voice trailed off when he saw only Jiang Yu.
“He’s feeling a bit unwell and is resting.” Jiang Yu blocked the doorway, showing no intention of stepping aside.
“Unwell?” Song Lingchen’s voice took on a tone of concern, “Is it serious? Let me see him…”
“No need.” Jiang Yu refused crisply. “He needs quiet rest.”
Under the dining table, Jiang Qing held his breath, pressing tightly against Jiang Linmu.
The warm body leaned close, and an ear accidentally brushed against Jiang Linmu’s jaw, tickling him. Jiang Linmu subconsciously reached out and gently covered that restlessly twitching ear, feeling an unbelievable softness beneath his palm.
Jiang Qing’s body stiffened for a moment.
Outside, Song Lingchen seemed to want to say more, but was ultimately dismissed by Jiang Yu in a few brief sentences.
The door closed, and Jiang Yu returned to the dining room, tapping on the tabletop: “He’s gone.”
The tablecloth was lifted, and two heads popped out.
Jiang Linmu was still maintaining the posture of covering his ear, and realizing it belatedly, he let go, a bit embarrassed.
Jiang Qing didn’t mind. He looked up at Jiang Yu:
“Brother, carry.”
Jiang Yu: “…”
He bent down and scooped Jiang Qing into his arms. Jiang Qing expertly found a comfortable position, rested his head on his shoulder, and yawned.
“Sleepy?” Jiang Yu’s voice unconsciously softened.
“Mhm…” Jiang Qing’s voice carried a nasal tone.
He didn’t know if it was because of shrinking, but Jiang Qing felt himself getting sleepy with an exceptionally high frequency.
Jiang Linmu watched his eldest brother carrying his mini second brother upstairs, and he touched his jaw where the fox ear had just brushed against.
…Seems like, it was quite nice to touch?
So soft…
Jiang Qing lay on Jiang Yu’s shoulder and let out a comfortable sigh.
This is great. After shrinking, not only does acting spoiled come naturally, but it also conveniently saves so much trouble: like walking, eating…
If it was like this, Jiang Qing hoped he would never turn back for the rest of his life.
However, what he didn’t know was that even if he hadn’t shrunk, if he used the same reason, the same tone, and the same request with Jiang Yu, Jiang Yu would still satisfy him.
Of course, the subject was limited strictly to Jiang Qing.
If Jiang Linmu had said it, Jiang Yu would have smacked him on the head and told him to go to the hospital if his brain was sick.
———————————————
“So… why are we using this method to enter?”
Shen Zhize lowered his voice, crouching behind the curtains in the Jiang family’s living room with a look of utter helplessness. Beside him, holding the exact same posture, was Song Lingchen.
The two had only quietly slipped in through the side French windows after confirming no one was in the room.
Song Lingchen made a shushing gesture:
“Brother Yu said Qingqing is sick and won’t let anyone see him, and his phone isn’t going through. I just feel something’s wrong, I have to see it with my own eyes to feel at ease.”
Shen Zhize suddenly narrowed his eyes upon hearing footsteps coming from the stairs:
“Take cover!”
The two grown men immediately shrank back behind the curtains, holding their breath.
They saw Jiang Yu carrying a “bundle” walking down from upstairs. Poking out of that “bundle” was a head of messy black hair, and… two russet-brown fox ears that bobbed up and down with Jiang Yu’s every step.
“Holy shit?!” Song Lingchen sucked in a breath of cold air, almost biting his tongue.
“What is that?! When did Jiang Yu get an illegitimate child?! And it has ears?!”
Shen Zhize was also dumbfounded: “Wait… that kid’s side profile…”
Right at that moment, the blanket shifted. A head poked out, seemingly disturbed by the noise downstairs, and impatiently rubbed its eyes.
When that face turned completely toward them—
“Jiang Qing?!!!” Even though the two tried their hardest to lower their voices, their shock still leaked out.
Hearing the commotion, Jiang Qing looked over groggily, locking eyes perfectly with two pairs of eyes staring wide and round from the gaps in the curtains.
“…”
Why am I seeing ghosts in the house in broad daylight.

- Morning Ode: A sarcastic reference to Jiang Qing previously waking up the entire household at 6 AM by blowing the incredibly loud suona!
